"It's not surprising that we're so bitter, and we cling to hand grenades and Anglican religion and we use Va-a-a-a-se-line."

That quote ends the previous post, which you need to absorb — perhaps with a piece of toast — to ready yourself for the following exercise in photo comparison.

We have here 2 famous expressions. The first is "Child with Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park" (in the 1962 Diane Arbus photograph) and the second is President Obama, enjoying the perks of the presidency, doing the "not impressed" pose with McKayla Maroney:

Which is more grotesque, any Diane Arbus photograph (since they're all grotesque) or the executor of the Cloward and Piven strategy to bring America to its knees, doing cute?

About the same reaction as Carter being photographed with his feet on the desk in the Oval Office.

I've never seen any of those expressions before. I don't care for Kewl Hip Culturally Relevant Obama. I have no idea who that girl is whose Famous Expression he is replicating.

However, I clearly remembered the Beavis & Butthead clip and re-watched it with delight when someone linked it in the comments. "Why does he keep singing about these people he knows? Who gives a rat's ass?" LOL!

Diane Arbus committed suicide, most likely as a result of untreated mental illness.

President Obama is a malignant narcissist, which is not mental illness so much as a character disorder.

HTF does Obama find time to keep up on this pop culture stuff? He must watch ESPN etc nonstop yet he claims he is working so hard.

That reminds me "Working so hard working so hard for you and me" is a refrain from a 1960's rock & roll song by The Animals?

There's no question that obama and Romney have different skill sets.

Back to when kids in Central Park were scrawny, lacked designer clothes and got their knees dirty. Plus that slight whiff of Hitler Youth.

Keeping the US Credit rating from being downgraded.

Again, different skill sets.

Maybe the gymnast punched him, right after the photo was taken. She's a 4 foot 11 teen girl, and she has broader shoulders and thicker arms than he does. She could take him apart at the joints.

Just look at those creepy effeminate hands of his. Has he ever done anything with them other than eat and wipe his ass?

If you put the camera too close to a face you get a sort of fisheye effect. When a professional photographer makes this elementary mistake then you have to assume she intended to distort. And Arbus intended to distort Americans. So her photography is unique because it also records its viewers - it is liked by those with a will to distort.

wildswan said...

Oops - I was following links to the picture of Anderson Cooper as a baby by Diane Arbus and forgot explain how this picture links with this thread in my comments above on Arbus. Sorry, rushing to get ready for Thanksgiving - and I'm not so distorted I'm not thankful for the blessings we still have. Even if we will have to struggle for what was once taken for granted.

I'm impressed. Harry Reid says US government operates best without a budget and

They're speaking and behaving as money means nothing. Nothing.

It's odd though, I see faithless people shift their natural human faith to government but insist on its currency having no meaning at all, no anchor, nothing at all for faith to be based.

Freeman, they want Romney to fail. The underlying assumption of the gloating is that people who pump their own gas are failures. It's a loser thing. Losers have to pump their own gas. Winners have lackeys for such matters, or just ride in motorcades in other peoples' cars (paid for by you, me and the other loser gas pumping proles.)

Chip Ahoy said...

Freeman, right wing sites are showing it too. He's disheveled. Extremely disheveled. Like driving across country disheveled. Not pressed and ironed creased pants presidential at all. Just a regular bloke all crumpled up pumping gas.

The kind of guy that yells at his kids for crying about Twinkies in the back of the car. I saw that in Maui more than I cared. Disheveled dads yelling at their kids in the car, and you know they're all loaded. Bad mood beaten dads all over the place. On Maui. Pumping gas.

BarrySanders20 said...

The assignment was to compare th etwo photos.

I don't see much similarity other than smirks, but that actually shows the difference.

Grenade boy is exasperated and impatient. McKayla/Obama are imitating the original McKayla showing disgust and distain and her utter inability to pretend she was happy with second place. If anything, Mitt giving his concession speech should be akin to the original McKayla.

Obama lacks the expression of disgust and distain, and therefore does not really mimic her very well.
