Gift suggestion.

This may seem ordinary and overpriced, but it is fantastic. If you know someone who likes to wear fingernail polish but has trouble keeping the stuff from chipping within a day or 2 and is either wasting a lot of time redoing nails or just not bothering anymore, she — or he! — will love the Butter London Top and Tails Set. They may not immediately realize how great it is, but they will thank you later. I'm not kidding. I have never encountered a cosmetic product that was anywhere near this superior to everything else in its category.

Bought one for my daughter.

She's hard to surprise, so thanks for the idea.

My daughter will be so glad we don't live on Catalina Island.

My wife enjoyed being flowerbombed once back when times were more flush.

Does anyone know if Palladian is marketing his perfume yet?

Overpriced is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Or the bepayer.

This seems like it is for DIY nails. My wife gets her nails done - I assume that they use something like this at the shop because they don't chip in a few days.

Is that so?

They do a more lasting job at the salon for a number of reasons, but I've never found the same brand they use worked as well applied at home. My salon uses OPI, btw.

Since fingernail polish doesn't last as long, you have to spend a hell of a lot of time and money at the salon if you want to wear it all the time. I have my fingernails done sometimes. I always get my toenails done in the salon, because they're hard to do yourself, and it lasts much longer (like, a month).

Also, fingernails grow much faster, so even if you could get the polish to last a month, it would stop looking right after a week or so, I think.

I'm talking about natural nails, not artificial. I have no experience with the fake nails. I can't imagine attempting to do them myself, but I wouldn't want them.

Ann-

I take your comments as meaning that this would not be worth getting for my spouse unless she decides to start doing her own nails.

Does this look nice without color in between?

It's impossible hard to find a good clear polish that lasts even with a base coat.

It's in my A-basket.

Purchased (for myself). Next suggestion, please.

Rich B., I get my nails done about half the time in a salon, but since I ride horses a lot they get chipped faster than I'd like. I am totally happy to take a product like this to the salon where they can apply it. I do the same thing with some of my favorite colors.

Re: toenails are hard to do yourself.

I'm having that difficulty too, and it's still only November and the holiday season is just beginning. And I'm just referring to clippers.

At least we're finished with the Thanksgiving leftovers.

If you are saying, "but she'll never use two products on her nails!", I recommend Nailtiques Formula Two.
Buy it through Althouse's portal here.

Correct. In fact, it would seem to say: stop going out to get them done. That's not something you want to say!

But she might be going out to get it done because she believes she can't get lasting results on her own. If that's the reason, she might like it. Otherwise, no. If she enjoys the spa environment/pampering aspect of the salon, I recommend indulging her (unless you're approaching a fiscal cliff).

Try biting them!

That would be even harder.

I'm going to ask for this for Christmas. I don't paint my nails because it never lasts, and I don't get them done at a salon because it costs (more) money and still doesn't last (although I've heard good things about the shellac finish). It'd be nice to paint them and not have all my work wasted within 24 hours!

I've been told that gel polish (which requires UV curing) lasts a lot longer than any top coat. We're talking "I'm bored and it's still good", aka a month.

Ann-

Thanks. I could not ask my beloved spouse to give up this simple pleasure.

Fiscal cliff? I am all set to reduce my tax profile in '13.

Greetings. This is incredibly late, but I could not find the original post until you used the tag 'fingernails' today. Anyway, I bought this stuff as stocking stuffers for my wife and grown daughter. They both love it. Thanks for the suggestion.
