Some fine Drudge juxtapositioning today — monkey + Sebelius and Lewinsky + some scary mysterious liquid.

Thanks to the reader who pointed me to Drudge right now. (Here it is, preserved in the archive.)

You have to scroll down to the middle of the page, where you find, in the center column, the striking face of the new monkey whose eyes direct our eyes over to the right-hand column and the face of Kathleen Sebelius, which — you tell me — either looks or doesn't look like the new monkey.

Scroll down further and there's Monica Lewinsky, who might write "a tell-all book," not that she hasn't already written a memoir. But that puts her in the news enough for Drudge to dredge up her picture, and who'd really care but — yikes! — what's that stuff in that picture next to her...

"Surfers ride foam-covered wave in NZ..." Of course, Drudge wants us to think of Clinton's semen. (Look! Lewinsky's wearing a blue dress!) There's no question about that. I click on the splooge-evoking link and get a much bigger shot of those "330ft of yellow froth"... those "overflowing flood-waters which whipped the murky-coloured waves into a frenzy, kicking up some eye-catching spray when they broke."

Whew! I don't know if I want a tell-all book.

In other news: "Monk Found Wandering Naked After Eating Hallucinogenic Berries..."

I don't know if the monkey looks like Countess Dracula, but it certainly looks kinder.

Kathleen Sebelius is an idiot.

As if 95% or more of the employees in her department weren't going to vote for Obama and the Democrats anyway.

Regardless, I hope the ring her up for her Hatch Act violation, but I"m not holding my breath.

Nice law perfesser ladies shouldn't know the word "splooge!"

I saw that monkey picture earlier today on some other site and thought it was awesome. He just looks so bored with it all, with his tired, grandiose, Jovian gaze.

The Lewinsky book should be interesting. Can't imagine what new details will be coming around the bend.

@Bob Ellison You posted off topic in an non-open-thread post and there's another post on that topic. Please make your point where it is on topic.

Opps. Sorry.

Darn, and now I forgot what brilliant remarks I made. Life is so hard!

ST, splooge guns were used widely in "Bugsy Malone".

But Ann, you completely missed, or disregarded, this: "MICHELLE O: BEING FAT 'GREATEST THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY'..." That's about the wrongest thing I've heard all week!

The monkey looks like he's read too much Talmud.

Known Unknown said...

You could call it Drudgetapositioning in honor of that other thread the other day.

Strelnikov said...

Also, and i know I'm out on a limb here, I think Sebelius is an attractive woman. Sure she has a face like a hatchet, but since when has that been a negative? I happen to like hand tools.

Strelnikov said...

"Drudgistioning" is funnier.

Helicopter Ben having an absolutely monster day. DOW up 280 points.

Bob Ellison said...

Drudgesaposition is fun to say, but difficult to spell.

I'm with you, Strelnikov: Sebelius is pretty. So are many other women in public life. It seems to be a common thing. It's a sexist thing, even to observe it.

Oh, so successful men tend to be tall and handsome?

Mark O said...

Kathleen Sebelius is the new face of the Grim Reaper.

Ken Starr wrote the real tell all. It pissed off Clinton. He was not a nice man to the help.

garage mahal said...

230 points, not 280. Oops.

Looks like Fun City. If I wasn't so surfed out from Hurricane Leslie I'd jet over and partake a few of those bodacious brown foamy tubes. first I'd stop off in Cali and pick up my bud Spicoli for the surf fest in Kiwi World. Soooo Gnnarrrrly dude. Jeff would probably want Monica to come along too.

'naked' next to 'Sebelius' in the tags is doing no one any favors.

Sebelius does look like the new monkey species and finally I have engaged my lit-crit faculties on

the question of juxtaposition of pictures in journalism in the digital age.

Is it a sub-comment, another "text" flowing in, under and through the text as Althouse obviously thinks? Is it unconscious when Drudge does it? Is it like the clowns and rowdy scenes in Shakespeare who appear following closely on tender lyrical love scenes or on murders - is it comic relief. Or is it comic commentary? Are our minds actually sorting images in a new way? so that we are not actually inundating ourselves by data aggregating - but instead engaged in "assisted thinking", e.g., Monica Lewinsky + giant incoming s..t wave, Sebelius + looks like new monkey species. It has never seemed likely to me that people were going to be forever overwhelmed by 24/7 access to info, messages, spam, polls, pix, text, twitter etc. In my belief there are only ten commandments covering all morality for all time including how to behave in a car and I bet there fewer than that covering how to drive safely on the information highway.

There's only one logical way to properly make a portmanteau out of the words "juxtaposition" and "Drudge":

Drudge-taposition

Yeah, they should say "Quaz!" instead.

I did. Distinctive blue asses. Pretty cool looking species.

I think Ms Sibelius is quite attractive, although at my age any woman under 70 is attractive. And I understand she played college basketball. Now as for her tenure has HHS head, and her violation of the Hatch act, that is a whole other story.

Roger J. said...

OOPS--need to modify my comment: Janet Napolitano is butt ugly but she apparently plays for the other team.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

In this xtreme campaign climate... rushing to monkey links could prove very dangerous.

Ctmom4 said...

The monkey looks wise and kind. Sibelius looks neither. She is attractive? Eye of the beholder, I guess. She looks to me like an ex nun.

I said, "coming around the bend."

Nudge nudge, snap snap, grin grin, wink wink, say no more.

Off topic garage.. lord knows I hate to bring you bad news.. but let me ask you.. if what Ben did today was such a panacea how come he doesn't do it more often?

Could it be because it could backfire and put us in a worst spot?

Ben is gambling... worst than gambling, he is creating paper out thin air to gamble.

I followed the Drudge monkey link. I learned a new word. Did everyone else already know what perineum meant?

Beautiful monkey. Wasn't Michael Crichton's Congo all about the unexplored ecosystem that is the Congo?

Anonymous said...

Christy, if you've ever had a baby, you should know what perineum means. Snip or stretch.

Garage: The market loves cheap money, no doubt about it. A little late to help the president, but probably good to boost the economy; at least let's hope so. You do know, I hope, that buying your own bonds is a little like borrowing on margin with the difference being that you do not get to use the "interest" charged. If you think the subprime bust was a criminal activity then you will love this one. Here we have our own government as the principal and counter party in CDO-style "investing." Yahoo! What could go wrong with that deal?

Not the direction you're going, but I was going to post earlier that the monkey reminds me of John Kerry.

I don't think Drudge did a good job if the monkey was meant to mock Sebelius.

Mary Beth said...

A Facebook post I saw says the monkey looks like Alan Tudyk. I can kind of see it.

Plus, "Firefly"!

The story about the monk got much less interesting when it said the berries were poisonous.
