"Just how much did Clinton ad lib?"

"Bill Clinton’s prepared remarks: 3,136 words. Bill Clinton’s remarks as delivered: 5,895 words (counting audience cheers)."

ADDED: Aw, here's Hillary watching him. From 9,963 miles away... in East Timor.

Romney-Ryan was supposed to be the presidential ticket of the “data-driven” manager and his budget wonk sidekick, and between the absence of any significant policy discussion last week and what happened tonight that has lost all credibility.

Clinton understands economics. Romney understands economics. Obama doesn't. There are debates ahead. Clinton won't be participating, and Obama won't be able to keep up, and he's demonstrated he can't wing it. Democrats can enjoy the spotlight for one more night before they'll have to answer Romney/Ryan...

Who cares?

How much did L. Ron Hubbard and Joseph Smith ad lib? That's what I want to know:

I'll follow them ANYWHERE,...

Is that far enough away not to get Obamastink on you?

Once Willie starts going, he's in a state of continuous orgasm, listening to the one true love of his life.

Clinton understands economics

He does?

Explain, please, if he understands economics, the fact the subprime mortgage mess and the housing bubble were his idea.

The Clinton's just won't go away. That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger! :)

Much to cons chagrin ie the worst possible 2008 scenario as America got both Obama and Hillary ...

Go watch any of his speeches at Aspen, Milken, or the like where he talks economic policy. You may not agree with his policies, just as economists can disagree, but Clinton's not faking it.

I'm hoping someone eventually asks Obama to explain 'comparative advantage' or some other fundamental concept. No way he gets it..

Explain, please, if he understands economics, the fact the subprime mortgage mess and the housing bubble were his idea.

Proof? I don't believe they were, any more than they were exclusively the fault of Wall Street, or bankers.

edutcher said...

Hate to tell you, but subprime was his baby.

And what he says at conferences, does he write it or someone at his Foundation?

The Clinton's just won't go away.

That's what Choom keeps thinking.

Willie, however, is an attention junkie.

This is a little 'on his watch' and a little correlation vs. causation. Doesn't convince me he's responsible. I'd be quicker to blame an overly accommodative fed, and using your logic, that likely began under Bush '41. Then follow that with Frank's Fannie/Freddie carrot/stick approach to forcing lenders to lend, then those lenders using the marketplace to lay off the risks to the ignorant AIGs of the world...

And it certainly doesn't convince me Clinton doesn't have a grasp of economics either, especially compared to Obama. Clinton doesn't need the script or the prompter. I'd encourage you to go take a look..

What inquiring minds want to know is...was the selection of Monica Lewinsky's former rabbi for the Day 2 closing prayer an intentional warning-shot by the Obama team or just another clusterfrack like the G-d/Jerusalem voice-vote?

Just because Willie is so delusional, he can lie convincingly without stopping to think about it is hardly a recommendation.

Will someone please explain to me "choom"? Use small words.

I blinked and a meme erupted and I don't get it.

The Choom Gang was Obama's marijuana smoking club at Punahou (sp?) when he was in prep school.

Barry was pretty much the leader and organizer.

Stipulated that Pres. Clinton has "a grasp of economics" (aka, "listened to Bob Rubin"), but he's shakier on "cost of sales".

He didn't ad-lib. He lied about how long his speech was going to be.

Clinton was famous for doing this. The networks can't cut him off, so he gets free air time.

Yeah, and there's plenty of other examples of where Clinton makes political arguments that don't pass the smell test, including in last night's speech. But to my original point: if you asked Clinton just to define cost of sales, or operating margin, he could do it. Obama wouldn't have a clue...

Ryan could have more clearly explained in 15 minutes what it took Clinton 50 minutes to dance around.
Clinton has to embellish a distortion and that takes longer.
Besides, as has been noted, Clinton is an attention hogg and I'll bet he enjoyed knowing Obama was waiting for him to finish. (I'm assuming he knew that Obama was the "surprise") I'm sure he didn't give a tinkers dam that the audience was ready to run him out of there so they could get back to the party.

shiloh said...

Ryan being able to lie in less time aside, it's been reported mittens, turdblossom, etc. have pulled their political ads from MI, PA and WI.

Someone from WI can verify this. If true, mittens has to run the table. And winning OH/FL/VA/NC still doesn't get willard to 270!

Then why didn't he. The entire Ryan-Romney campaign is based on "we're not going to tell you all the things we plan to do until after we are elected"

Doesn't really matter. Nearly half again as many people watched the NFL opener than Clinton.

"For the night, NBC averaged an 8.2 rating among adults 18-49, far ahead of the combined totals for the other networks in the key demographic. CBS and FOX both averaged 1.4 key demo ratings, beating the 1.0 rating for ABC and The CW's 0.4 key demo rating."

Overall, NBC averaged an estimated 20.585 million viewers to go with a 12.7 rating/20 share for Wednesday primetime. CBS was a distant second with a 3.3/5 and 5.06 million viewers, topping FOX's 2.6/4 and 4.14 million viewers and ABC's 2.5/4 and 3.61 million viewers.

http://www.hitfix.com/news/tv-ratings-cowboys-giants-opener-dominates-wednesday-for-nbc

20.585 million watched the NFL; 12.81 watched Clinton; 7.775 million more watched the NFL than Clinton.

Oh. I can't follow all of the news. Did you guys hack the Romney/Ryan website and take it down?

I know it's there, easily found, so either you guys took it down, or you're too lazy to search for it.

Clinton did the same double-counting on the $716 billion in Medicare cuts. Obama used it to pay for Obamacare and then used it again to extend the solvency of the Medicare Part A. You can't use it twice. Ryan's budget uses it to extend the solvency of the Medicare Part A trust.

Obama’s DNC speech assignment: Spell out his vision for a second term

* 100 more rounds of golf.

* National Debt of $20 trillion.

* Seven years without a federal budget.

* Eight percent unemployment rate is the new "natural rate of unemployment."

Where's Precious Lindsey, she of the delusional claim there is no leftist bias in the media?

The same exact media "reporters", "anchors", "pundits" and "commentators" that slammed every Republican speaker and nitpicked their every word with phony "fact"-"checking", are drooling all over themselves with adoring prose about Michelle, and Bill, and Debbie, and Sandra, and every other leftwing nutjob at the Demo convention. Every speech is the greatest in the annals of speechifying until the next one outdoes it. Meanwhile, the same exact "fact"-"checkers" are notably absent, or are awarding 12 George Washingtons for honesty to everything the Dems say.

Anyone, even a pathological hack, who is sober, sighted, can hear, is above the age of 12 and below the age of Alzheimers, should be able to recoqnize this. Anyone else is a flat-out liar.

Oh, but I forgot, how can anyone who agrees with her on everything possibly be biased?

Hysterical.

Hey, remember when you assured us the Janesville factory stopped production in Dec 2008?

Well of course you were wrong, mainly because you're a profile in ignorance, and you don't seem to grasp that what you know about the Romney campaign is at the same level as what you know about Janesville plants.

A person with a modicum of intelligence & self respect would shut up.

You'll carry on.

Right Freder. The RNC was mostly platitudes, which Clinton picked up on and relayed to the nation.

Ratings:

"Giants versus Cowboys versus Clinton — Clinton wins.

"When the ratings dust settled Thursday, the previous night’s NFL’s season kickoff game between the Giants and the Cowboys had fumbled about 3 million viewers compared to last season’s season starter.

"For about one hour of Wednesday night’s game, it competed for viewers with Bill Clinton at the DNC.

"From 10:30-11:30 p.m., the game averaged 23.123 million viewers.

"During that hour, Clinton’s address, which began around 10:30 and wrapped up at about 11:22 p.m., averaged about 22.769 million viewers across a collection of commercial networks including ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel. That puts Clinton just 354,000 viewers behind the Giants and Cowboys.

"Digging deeper, Current TV’s DNC coverage in that hour averaged 197,000 viewers. And, contacted by the TV Column, PBS, whose numbers are not given to reporters by Nielsen, estimates it averaged around 4 million viewers, based on Nielsen fast-national statistics.

"Which puts Clinton over the top."

You gotta hand it to him, he's the best.
