If and when we pull out, the big losers will not be us but the women of Afghanistan. There really, truly is a war on women there. I just can't think of a single feminist who has ever supported our role there......I saw an article recently about Syria. Assad's forces returned the dead bodies of children involved in demonstrations to their parents. The children's bodies were bruised and their genitals were maimed. It was just that one article. No follow ups. The three terrorists who were waterboarded generated far more coverage and outrage.
If and when we pull out, the big losers will not be us but the women of Afghanistan. There really, truly is a war on women there. I just can't think of a single feminist who has ever supported our role there
Well naturally. It doesn't help your cause to show women murdered for showing a bare ankle or having pre-marital sex while simultaneously claiming oppression at home because you can't get taxpayer funded birth control.
Colonel Angus said... "You are absolutely right. That's why using the phrase GOP War on Women is so idiotic."
Wrong Colonel Sanders. The touch point is when someone confused the two and mentioned them in the same sentence as if parallel.
Both are quite real although I doubt the term "war" is applicable to the Taliban. That is their religion, pure and simple, wrongheaded and evil as it is, it is what they unfortunately believe.
I won't compare the GOP to the Taliban. That wouldn't be right. I will talk a bit about fanatics, religious or otherwise.

If the U.S. cared about Afghan women, Reagan/Bush would have supported the Russians against the Taliban. But they didn't. They armed the Taliban and gave them money; and our CIA trained thousands of mujahideen.
The strength of the Taliban is the direct result of the support of their buddies in Washington...the GOP.

In 1994, Bhutto’s government appointed the Taliban as protector of Pakistani convoys through Afghanistan. Controlling trade routs and the lucrative windfalls those routes provide in Afghanistan is a major source of lucre and power. The Taliban proved uniquely effective, swiftly defeating other warlords and conquering major Afghan cities.
Beginning in 1994, The Taliban rose to power and established their brutal, totalitarian rule over 90 percent of the country, in part by leading a genocidal campaign against Afghanistan’s Shiite, or Hazara.
EMD said... So Lindsey, why are you named after a porn actress from Ohio?"
I'm not. My husband's last name is Meadows.
Can you tell me how you know a porn stars name and where she is from? I don't think place of birth is given in the credits unless you are some creepy stalker who fantasizes about porn stars and the details of their lives.
Reagan/Bush would have supported the Russians against the Taliban. But they didn't.
...because they were non-contemporaneous players, and neither President could travel through time to aid the former against the latter.
The Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989 and the Taliban only emerged in 1991 to fight against the abandoned Najibullah regime and the various pretenders.

It's called Google. I was just curious whether or not you might be using your real name, Imagine my surprise when I got the results. I figured you might be using the moniker to make a point.
My real name is rather generic, and any search would come up with a lot of hits, none of which would be me.
Also, I'd like to apologize for making my inquiry sound so crude.
I assumed your screen name wasn't a real name, and like a lot of avatars, are based off of other characters. (i.e., some people use "Winston Smith" or "Edmond Dantes" or something like that.)

I won't compare the GOP to the Taliban. That wouldn't be right. I will talk a bit about fanatics, religious or otherwise.
So the "War on Women" is real because you're afraid that someone, somewhere, will disapprove of your God-given right to jam scissors into the brain of the parasite infesting your body, but because beheading women for dancing is part of the Taliban "religion," you're willing to give them a pass.
The big disconnect is even the use of the term "War on Women" when there are actual wars on women taking place all over the globe that have little to do with the cost of birth control medicine or Sandra Fluke.
It would be more nice if more women would lend their voices to these atrocities that go on daily in the lives of truly oppressed women worldwide.
bbking wrote: If the U.S. cared about Afghan women, Reagan/Bush would have supported the Russians against the Taliban. But they didn't. They armed the Taliban and gave them money; and our CIA trained thousands of mujahideen.
The mujahideen are not necessarily the taliban. THe Taliban didn't really come into existense until the mid 90's.

The above has already been thoroughly debunked but it's worth noting also that in any foreign policy debate it doesn't much matter what vile organization, nation or individual is spoken about but that sooner or later some person or persons will show up on the scene and vehemently declare that they were created by America.
We observe this phenomenon whether the subject is Hitler, Tojo, Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Pol Pot, Stalin, Iran after the Shah, the Ayatollah Khomeini, various fascist individuals or movements, various terrorist organizations, Communists, etc.
All these America-blamers believe all the bad actors and events listed above were peacefully existing in a peaceful world - presumably picking daisies, counting stars or otherwise engaged in peaceful pursuits - until of course the Great Satan(America) rushed into their lives and threw a spell on them which caused them to commit great crimes of murder and subjugation.
Colonel Angus said... If and when we pull out, the big losers will not be us but the women of Afghanistan. There really, truly is a war on women there. I just can't think of a single feminist who has ever supported our role there
==================== Our "role" as Americans is to be an example of freedom and law and enlightenment. Not to be some free 911 Srvice and global transformation of change force that spends trillions and takes tens of thousands of casualties each decade to try and force change in other nations.
If we pull out and the natives decide not to become a Land of Noble Freedom Lovers...but revert to their traditional barbaric ways...too bad.
And we also have to stop taking in refugees..the people that refuse to fight to improve their own inner city or barbaric native land..and feel that they are entitled to life and full refugee benefits in a 1st World nation due to that.
I doubt the term "war" is applicable to the Taliban
That suggests you do think it is applicable to Republicans. It's a useful rule of thumb when deciding which of two situations constitutes a war to identify the one that has a body count.
Someone asked Sandra Fluke about the Akins comment yesterday. She responded "What's 'actual rape'?" "It's when the woman says no" she was informed. "Why would she do that?" Fluke responded.
As far as the "GOP War On Women". We'll keep our hands outta your uteris, if you keep your hands outta our pockets. Is that a deal?
The silence of the feminist movement about the atrocities committed by Mulsims shouts at the volume of their hypocracy. It's not about saving women, or equal rights. It's about political power here, in America, whre its safe to slander Christians, and others who don't agree with you.
I can agree to that. Especially if we count all the "little brown brothers" here illegally. Let's ship 'em all home. Oopps...your side is against that. Maybe it's time to realize C4, you have more in common with the GOP than the Dope.

Fanned. For telling the truth about republican ideology.
We need to get the hell out of there. Failing that, we should pull our ground troops out and just drone the hell out of these animals.
But it's Republicans who are waging a war on women.

Right(wing) you are scout. The GOPs war on women has NOTHING to do with the Taliban atrocity.
It isn't anywhere near close to having any parallel whatsoever.

Exactly. One is an actual war, the other is somewhat inconveniencing.
Actually the War on Women being waged in this country is being waged by lefist women's groups against those women who don't do and say as they do.
Women are always meaner to other women than men.

Meanwhile back in reality, the Taliban was in large part created and funded by Pakistan, several years after the Soviet withdrawal.

You can blame Benazir Bhutto.
We should call it the religion of pieces.
If they killled only two women but many men, likely it was a naughty-type party, so it's perfectly justified.
Why don't we just arm everyone over there, male & female? It will become either Switzerland or deserted.
