The mountains "look naked" because they are burned to the ground. Althouse uses long shots, presumably (?), to avoid showing the utter desolation of of the west side of Lake MacDonald. It runs nearly the entire n-s length of the lake. From 2004 as I recall, or 2003, started by camp fire outside the park during summer and finally stopped by winter snows, not by Park Service.
Egress to east side of park even more burned to the ground by fire, also stopped only by snow. Year or two later.
Only incinerated tree stumps standing east of park and in its western part adjacent Lake MacDonald. Among the largest USA burns ever.
One son and I were on both grounds of a week this year.
For a moment while I was reading your article I struck to me that I always thought about this thing. But could not put it into words! How you do this is marvelous. Buy Generic Viagra

The mountains look naked without snow.
Stunning, God's creations.
The mountain floating in the lake,
Floating there for its own sake,
Is like Narcissus' rapt intake...
Except it doesn't give a shake.
Yes.
This is what some of us have been waiting to see.
Wonderful. Thanks for the photo.
It is so beautiful and peaceful.

The hubby's spending his 2nd night in a row on Lake Yellowstone, tonight. I'm guessing there won't be any pictures. Thanks for yours...

Perhaps if you are "on the mount" long enough, you know you won't need to "swim" if you fall in.
Cut the kid a break, or give him swimming lessons at the Y MCA, for cripes sake.

OH! And kudos to Althouse for her photography ... and that magic lasso she uses to rope us into letting our minds wander.
Haha
Bet they don't sell THOSE lassos at Amazon.
YET :O
You always have such good pictures. Desktop background worthy.
