Hattiesburg, MS has fiberglass swans. I'm not aware of any next to veteran's memorials. Swans are mean bastards. Maybe the veterans in MA would like swans better.
Stuff that can't be next to other stuff is an excuse to control as much of your neighbor's stuff as you can. Leave your neighbors alone.
In California, the lefties spend their time attacking crosses on public land put up 50 or 100 years ago to honor war dead. Bunnies just look foolish but are harmless.
And the giant bunny statue is one of 15 that are being placed around town to raise funds and promote the arts.
So it's like an advertisement? They should have sold and painted them like Chicago's Cows on Parade of Louisville's Gallopalooza.
“Honestly, we sat there and it did get a little heated, but we had already given permission to the Dedham Art Project to have the bunny there, and we cannot go back on that decision without calling for a public meeting."
Apparently the journalist the HuffPo is quoting didn't feel the need to ask,"Why was that spot chosen?". Would the answer be because they expect a lot of people there on Flag Day and want the exposure?
It read like the bunny was cuddled up next to the statue. Then when you see the video report you see it's apart from the statue and there's even pavement between them. Is this really an important issue, or is it just an excuse to make a fuss? People are so frustrated these days they'll make a fuss about almost anything.
This is really about town politics. The guy who started up the whole "veterans are angry" thing is a political rival of the folks who organized the bunnies (which are a take-off on the Chicago "Cows on Parade"). The manufactured quarrel over the bunny in Oakdale Square is just the first opportunity for the old guard to push back against a newer faction that recently got some power and has been (kind of obnoxiously) exercising it. I didn't hear one person at the Flag Day Parade objecting to the bunny or disrespecting the veterans. Dedham is an very patriotic, veteran-honoring town (hence the annual Flag Day parade, and the prominence of both the American Legion and the VFW), and patriotic in a traditional, non-ironic way that's somewhat unusual for Massachusetts inside Route 128.

Civility bullshit tag?

A bunny saved my life in 'Nam!
I see their point.
As it's the People's Republic about which we're talking, they probably ought to be glad the veterans' memorial is still there.
Might offend someone.

Some of us Vets do!
And now we have Hero Cops, Hero Teachers and Hero Firefighters feeling massively entitled.
With their "jock & panty sniffer" fans lined up demanding anything they want - more pay, more benefits, more statues - they should get.
Because they serve!
And save and nurture the children! The children!

If Paul Bunyan (that giant manly logger) could put up with a blue ox called "Babe," Dedham's veterans can survive a few bunnies.
Or is this the bunny from Monty Python? In that case I take it all back.
And the president can survive a few questions from reporters.
