"A group of Kenyan students re-enact Bill Buckner's error leading to the Mets winning run in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series."

The real fuckup was by John McNamara, Boston's manager. Buckner had been a good fielder but injuries and age had made him a known liability on defense. Buckner was a very good hitter, even in his diminished form. McNamara should never have exposed him like that.

I watched that Curb Your Enthusiasm clip, and have two things to say about Bill Buckner.

1. He must be a hell of a strong guy to be able to pike fun at himself like that. He took massive amounts of grief for that error.

2. He doesn't act that well.

that's so wrong

For the record.

Sure, Red Sox fans love to bitch and moan, especially before 2004, but I never sensed real hatred for the man.

The CYE was fucking EPIC!!!

Just heard a joke from a buddy of mine when I told him about the Bill Buckner CYE video.

Bill Buckner tried to commit suicide right after error later in the week. He stepped out in front of a bus, but it went through his legs.

If fame is what you want, Buckner acheived far more of it by missing that ball than he ever would have if he had caught it. Remember that if he caught it, the score would have been tied and the Sox might have lost the series anyway. If that had happened, odds are very good almost no one today would know the man's name.

That was one of the few games of baseball I watched and only because my brother-in-law at the time was a Red Sox fan, so I was rooting for the Mets. I remember Boston playing awful, yet being charged only 3 errors (I think), when it should have been more.

(Didn't the second baseman miss a catch earlier in the game?)

I did not realize how hilarious Curb Your Enthusiasm is. You must see that ball out the window coming a mile away when he starts idly tossing the ball and the disgraced ball player is standing by an open window. The setup is like a cutaway to a fruit cart during a chase scene. And yet when the woman predictably freaks she does so over the top that it exceeds the humor line then through excess comes back to being funny. Her swearing had me in stitches. Sort of like the puppet in Team America vomiting in the street. The puppet heaves and heaves and fills the street with more liquid than a puppet could contain.

That is brutal.

I find CYE spotty on the yucks, and this one was pretty obvious where it was going.

As usual with youtube links, I watched another one which had me laughing out loud.

Leave Lem alone, people. The man has been through enough.

Alternatively, a Bill Buckner impersonator has embarked upon a one-act play as a Kenyan-born dictator that bankrupts his country's treasury with his ideas for 'change'.

Chip Ahoy, Curb is a great show. Some of the episodes are weak, but the good ones are gems. Most women don't get it. My bride hates the show.

Having thought Buckner had scarred me for life, I can't believe it but that clip of the Kenyan kids made me laugh. They seemed to enjoy the whole thing so much.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that Kenyan Mookie missed first base. Appeal!!!

Buckner is a good sport about it. I sometimes tell people who remember only that error that they're ignorant. Buckner was an all star who could barely walk on account of injury during that game. He was playing because of his bat, like David said. People love to kick you when you're down I guess.

For years all we had was a clip of Fisk waving a baseball fair over the green monster... and then there was Buckner... behind the bag!

EDH is right.. the "hatred" is mostly for the benefit of sounding like a hardcore fan.

In about five months these Kenyan students can re-enact Pres. Obama's "The Private Sector is doing fine"speech.

I read that as 'A group of Keynesians reenact..'.

Imagine my disappointment...
