"Newt Gingrich Robocall: Mitt Romney Forced Holocaust Survivors To Eat Non-Kosher Food."

"As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney vetoed a bill paying for kosher food for our seniors in nursing homes. Holocaust survivors, who for the first time, were forced to eat non-kosher, because Romney thought $5 was too much to pay for our grandparents to eat kosher. Where is Mitt Romney's compassion for our seniors? Tuesday you can end Mitt Romney's hypocrisy on religious freedom, with a vote for Newt Gingrich. Paid for by Newt 2012."

That Gingrich: He's a survivor.

Yup.

BBt Newt's trying to reach the DEPENDS crowd, in Florida. And, Newt speaks the truth. While all the witnesses ... who were alive in Massachusetts ... when they were in old age homes, back in the 1960s, are probably dead, now.

Plus, the grandchildren never came to visit.

Newt needs to peel away some of Romney's voters. You know these people! They couldn't punch their ballots hard enough ... back in 2000 ... that the only trail they left were hanging chads.

Just you wait. Up ahead you're gonna see Jeb Bush being rolled out ... should Mitt's "fantastic run" ... end up petering out.

What are nursing homes like now, with Viagra available?

The line Newt is feeding us is 100% glatt treif. I'm not a big Romney supporter, but Newt's claim is false. Romney's budget cut plan was to end on-site kosher kitchens in this case, and have kosher food provided by an off-site vendor. It would have saved money, and they still would have eaten kosher. It was killed, by th eway, by the Dems.

Either Newt and I mean different things by the term "holocaust survivor" or he is claiming that the Nazis served Kosher meals in the concentration camps.

Gingrich sure knows how to act presidential. There is nothing comical about the idea of him leading the country.

I feel like if the jews were still willing to vote for Romney after the Mormons baptized dead holocaust jews, then this kosher food dispute isn't going to make a difference.

That last sentence is a lie without even having to bother with the rest of it. No matter what happens Tuesday, it won't end Romney's bid.

Just curious: Would a law allowing $5 extra for Jewish seniors to have kosher meals violate the establishment clause? Like giving Christian social security recipients extra money for Bibles, Sunday clothes, and gas to attend church? Maybe Romney was just being constitutionally principled.

Concentration Camps kept Kosher?

There was an attempt by some jews to maintain and ritual in concentration camps. I heard one survivor in Israel talking about being beaten by the guards for fasting on yom kippur.

There was also a prayer book recently donated to yad vashem that had been re-written by memory by a holocaust survivor.

It wouldn't survive me if there were some camp survivors who tried to avoid eating non-kosher when they could, although my understanding of orthodox practice is such a thing would not have been expected during the holocaust.

Carol_Herman said...

Whatever happens in Florida on Tuesday is going to be old news in a hurry.

I have a better question. Can anyone vote in the republican primary in Florida?

You mean to tell me all the old folks you saw showing up for Mitt Romney weren't there for the free food?

So far, they all look like Obama voters to me. And, among them are also the group who went to vote in 2000. And, didn't press hard enough. So Florida gave you "hanging chads."

While I never heard of a Jewish kid named Chad, before.

But I have heard of old people complaining that their kids never come to visit.

WHAT HAPPENS IN FLORIDA STAYS IN FLORIDA!

There's hundreds of millions more that's gonna be spent on negative advertisements, ahead.

The media will tell you everything is very close ... because it's good for their business! (Drudge, on the other hand, is a risk taker.)

By the way, the media couldn't get rid of Sarah Palin! Do you know how she survives? She Tweets.

There are more opinions across America than you can shake a stick at.

All I know, so far, is that Mitt Romney is a media favorite.

Meanwhile, come election day, I doubt people will be tuning in the media to get election results. Do you know why? Electronic signaling works faster over the Internet. Even if the government sets up jamming devices.

Even if Gallup sues blogs for copyright infringement.

You know the Kosher Eating Crowd makes up about 3% of the electorate.

It's hard to imagine anything lower than this: not just patently lying about what Romney did, a ridiculously misleading attack (and moreover one from the *left*), but actually having the shamelessness to pull the Holocaust card-- on elderly Jews in Florida.

He's a survivor all right. Like a cockroach.

The media, meanwhile, is setting the agenda. And, most people are looking forward to the Superbowl. Do you know one of the reasons why? Well, you just can't call the Superbowl's results in advance.

Ditto, what happens after Florida.

Newt didn't waste a whole lot of "stuff" on robo-calls. Maybe, next time there will be a polling done on preferences between bagels and lox. And, pastrami sandwiches.

Are there no longer any delicatessens in Miami ... where politicians can go and get swarmed by an elderly crowd?

This fight to re-align both parties so that the the white working class votersare unneeded and ignored voting bloc is very interesting.

FDR had made them into Dems base in the 1930s

Reagan then realigned them into the GOP base 32 years ago.

The Dems have since written them off.

And now along comes the GOP establishment, who never liked Reagan or the current tea party's pushiness and ghastley evangelical loyalties.

So Romney bluntly ridicules them and tells them they need him more than he needs them. He and Obama have the money, what have they got!

The key to the white working class suddenly losing all of its clout this election has been Romney's ability to use the Dem's media control techniques and pick off every candidate those voters liked with character assassinations just like a sniper does.

The field will suddenly be left with Obama and Romney in easy agreement to smash the trapped Tea Party obstructionists between them, and then they can play the Pre-Reagan games again in DC.

Historian clearly Newt sees this trap, and he is imitating Nathan Bedford Forrest once caught in a trap...he is attacking in both directions.

I don't think Newt will gain any Jewish votes with this desperate ploy, by the way. On the contrary-- it's so offensive to exploit the Holocaust in such a crass, flimsy, dishonest way. (There's a good post on how and why this whole thing is bogus on the Commentary site, if anyone's interested.)

I'm so disgusted by this, I almost feel nauseous. And it has nothing to do with Romney (since I don't think this hurts him one bit). I am completely at a loss to understand how people whose judgment I otherwise respect can support Gingrich.

Well... to be fair, there could be people who are holocaust survivors by virtue of escaping ghettos such as the Warsaw ghetto, or being part of resistence movements elsewhere in Poland, or in Lithuania, Belarus, etc.

But that said, I agree with you all: I think Newt was just honkin' out of his ass without thinking.

Well, I don't ascribe "judgment" to any "party"-- which is made up of myriad individuals and diverse groups, with conflicting/ overlapping interests, priorities, perspectives, & passions, hardly a monolithic entity. So I'd no more ascribe "judgment" to the GOP than to the Democratic party. I don't like ascribing a single coherent agency to any large diverse group of people; that's one reason I have a problem with all this nonsense about "The Establishment".

I'm not talking about Palin or her fans, but certain political commentators, e.g. in the blogosphere, I've normally found to be perspicacious. (I can't think of any politicians who've worked with Newt and now endorse him-- not anyone I'm famiiar with, anyway.) I guess the endorsement that puzzles me most is Thomas Sowell, who is someone I really admire.

I fell the same way about the Biden VP pick. First important decision Obama made as Democrat presidential contender.
Same doesn't hold true for McCain. He'd run for Prez before, and Palin hadn't been demonized by the media when he chose her for VP.

The key to the white working class suddenly losing all of its clout this election has been Romney's ability to use the Dem's media control techniques and pick off every candidate those voters liked with character assassinations just like a sniper does.

We have two candidates named Mitt Romney in this election apparently. The actual candidate, and the caricature upon whom the self-styled non-RINOs can assign any characteristic or action and assume it won't be challenged on factual grounds. Because in this election, the right is all about feeeeelings.

But just to take stab at it: You're saying Romney "picked off" Perry, Bachmann, Pawlenty and Cain? On what basis do you make this claim? As is the case with Gingrich, each of them is the author of their own fates owing their own campaign mistakes. And, if you know anything about them, their own limitations. I was surprised as anyone at Perry's self-destruction, but Bachmann's and Cain's were entirely predictable, as neither has credentials to be president, and both had personality features that doomed them to eventually wash out. Pawlenty probably could have ridden quite a bit farther in the race -- why he dropped out is a mystery to me, except maybe he didn't have the proverbial "fire in the belly." It was weak and disappointing.

Yes, Romney benefited from the winnowing of the field, but he didn't pull any of the triggers. Nor did he force Gingrich's many many errors.

If Gingrich were a normal candidate instead of a narcissistic clown, he'd drop out tonight and then you might see the other strong candidate in the race, Santorum, give Romney a real run in some states. Why you "true conservatives" haven't called for Gingrich to do just that -- weeks ago when it could have made a difference -- is something you'll have to answer for to your conservative consciences.

Boy is this over-heated. Exit polls show he got about a third of the votes of Tea Party types.

Most of the rest of them will focus on four more years of Obama and go with Romney based on his conservatism. Yes, I said that. The sewing circle bans that kind of talk, but I'm sort of outside the tent. He is clearly a conservative, compared with Obama, compared with any Democrat, and indeed compared with Gingrich. Santorum is more conservative, but nothing Romney said could possibly have caused the Tea Party folks to vote against Santorum.

You equate Gingrich = Tea Party. Romney was merciless on Gingrich, mostly for his very un-Tea Party like ideas like the colony on the moon.

Rejecting a colony on the moon is not a RINO position.
