"Four is the new three."

"Not only did Col. Potter join his predecessor Lt. Col. Henry Blake in the great M*A*S*H tent in the sky today, but in what has to be one of the oddest 'celebrity' death days in recent memory, also passing today were: Dobie Gray, he of 'Drift Away' fame; Pusuke, who at 26 was the world's oldest dog; and Barbara Orbison, the widow of Roy Orbison."

I love the quote from the 26-year old dog article: "He is believed to have died from old age."

It's only three if they are known. No four at all.

Sorry.

Wow, Barbara Orbison, I believe, was just on that HGTV show about buying property in Manhattan. Pancreatic cancer takes you quickly...

I don't get it - why is this "odd"?

Four is only the new three is the definition is sufficiently stretched.

How do Barbara Orbison and some old dog compare to Sherman T. Potter!?

PatCA, that was my first thought. She was on an episode of "Selling New York." She gave the realtor a pair of Ray Orbison Ray Bans.

I just mentioned her last week in some (legitimate) context in class, and none of the students seemed to know who Ray Orbison was.

Maybe if you'd said "Roy Orbison"....

Four is the new three. But only if one is the new four.

@Althouse, Ha ha!

You probably know why I regularly make that typo!

While fine people (and a dog), no doubt, if these folks are more than one step up from the late Dorothea Casaubon, I'd be greatly surprised.

The dog makes me sad.

If Orbison's Pretty Woman was about his wife, then she was famous.

Orbison had 25 Number One hits too!

(25 is the new 4)

Dogs don't count. Even old ones.

Freeman...I take that personally. Us old dogs need love too.

Not only is four the new three, but apparently 72 hours is the new "today".

Morgan left us on 12/7, while Gray and Orbison passed on the 6th and the pooch checked out on 12/5.

Sorry to pick nits.

None of them will have the long lasting cultural legacy of Jerry Robinson who also passed away this week. Jerry Robinson is probably a complete unknown to the average person, but his creations aren't.
