Zuccotti Park "is now a sliver of madness, rife with sex attacks, robberies and vigilante justice."

Says NY Post reporter Candice M. Giove, who spent the night there:
It’s a leaderless bazaar that’s been divided into state-like camps....

There is “Camp Anonymous,” the group best known for anti-Scientology protests.

It’s neighbored by a tent full of vampires, the “Class War” tent and the “Occupy Paw Street” tent, whose residents hand out treats to occupying pets.

There’s also “Camp France” and the “Nic at Night” tent, which supplies the protest with smokes....
It sounds cutesy... I mean, aside from the filth and the crime.

Love; The camp is pristine and there has been no problem with any of the occupiers. It is sanitary and safe. In many ways it has captured the hearts and minds of Americans who are in favor of all that the OCW occupiers are in favor of. More and more young people, yourself included, should move to the park or one of the many parks near you in solidarity with the occupiers and to put the lie to the fabrications of those newspapers we do not like.

Shout-T, yeah, that is one mistake haters make. They like to destroy institutions, but don't always have a plan for what to do when they take over.

It so much easier to bitch and complain and tear down institutions than it is to actually run something and contribute.

Obama partially learned this with the war on terror. Once he got into office, suddenly "illegal warrentless domestic spying" isn't such a bad thing after all.

yeah right! leaderless.. the non-leaders leaders have access to half a million dollars in donation, I hear.

Last year visiting Berkeley and walking through rundown perhaps drug infested downtown with its useless flock of young people, I could not stay for one moment long -- I wanted to tell them to go get a job in the real world and make something of themselves. Same thing goes for these useless Zuccotti inhabitants, even if it is temporary.

All the participants of all the Occupy(Your City)'s in the entire nation add up to about 10% of one Tea Party gathering.

Oh, no...illegal warrantless domestic spying is a very bad thing--still and always--and still a violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Obama just showed he is as much a scoundrel and criminal as his predecessor(s). "Just because Barry does it doesn't make it right," as everyone's mother would rightly point out.

Robert Cook said...

Shouty Tommy, I don't propose to say The National Inquirer or the NY Post are either one simply packs of lies. (Although the Inquirer has lost in court more than once in suits brought by celebs asserting the stories published about them in the Inquirer were false.)

No, my point is that they simplify, exaggerate, and sensationalize. We know from other reporting there have been problems in Zuccotti Park. The question is, can one say fairly that the conditions there now constitute "a sliver of madness?"

As the right wing is always attuned to even the whisper of slanted reporting in the MSM, I should think you would understand that the Post does not have to fabricate a story here, but merely go heavy on the sauce, as it were, in telling the story to create a picture of conditions there that may not reflect the experiences of most who are camped out there.

How does this differ from how the rest of the news media treated the Tea Parties?

For example, how many news outlets led with the accusation that racist slurs had been shouted at black Democratic Congressmen despite there being exactly zero evidence any such thing had occurred? How many news outlets are pumping the Cain "sexual harassment" story despite it consisting more of anonymous allegations ABOUT allegations about unspecified behavior? Etc, etc.

I've been to the OWS encampment numerous times, and I've been reading the NY Post for 35 years.

First, the OWS encampment looked headed toward utter chaos when I visited it. So, I'm inclined to believe the Post. The campers are the sort of people I see all the time in Woodstock on the Green. They are the same sort of people you'll see along Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. I have a lifetime of personal experience dealing with this type. Their lives always veer toward madness.

And, while the Post does like to jazz things up, they're usually pretty reliable on the facts.

jeff said...

"...in telling the story to create a picture of conditions there that may not reflect the experiences of most who are camped out there."

Could be, but how would you square the people camped out there seeing a need for a rape free zone? According to the enablers of OWS, all problems are caused by the police, the homeless, the drugged, the government provocateurs, the anarchist (when they are not being claimed for the numbers by OWS), pretty much everyone but the actual protesters. Subtracting all these groups you have about 5 people left.

I appreciate your first hand reporting, but really now, given your experience on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley (been there myself, too many times), does any normal person really need to see an OWS squattersville to know that it would be a filthy, drug and crime-ridden dystopia trending toward even dirtier anarchical chaos? I mean, given the sorts of people involved?

Whenever a lib cites the Sermon on the Mount, I cringe because it is taken out of context.

First, go back and read the preceeding scripture and learn WHO Jesus was preaching to...the disciples, and others FOLLOWED them. So, His message was directed at the disciples-those who BELIEVED in HIM, HIS followers...the ones who would be persecuted for believing in and teaching about Him, (who unbeknownst to them at that moment would be the risen Christ...remeber, Jesus had to die for Christianity to begin.)

The non-believers who followed Jesus and the disciples were uninvited guests. They were of all beliefs and occupations.

And, realize the KJ version of the Bible was written about the time of Shakespear, so some words have changed their meaning. "Meek", translated into today's English actually means, teachable.

When studying the Bible it helps to s-l-o-w down your reading, be careful about taking stuff out of context, and if you aren't using a newer translation realize Strong's will be needed to check for current language translation. It also helps to question scripture taught as part of a 10 minute serman...a lot of preachers are misleading gulible pew warmers with their social justice message...and IMO will answer to Him for their deception.

The NY Post is good at show biz. That does not discredit it as a news source.

For my money, you can rely on The Post more for factual reporting than on the NY Times. I'll spare you the endless scandals the Times has suffered over the past 15 years. You either know them, or you can look them up, or you don't want to know about them.

The Time doctors the news with a very leftist slant. The Post's editorial page is slanted right, but the news pages are pretty honest and neutral.

Sports reporting is better in The Post than in the Times.

In fact, for my money, the Times is the third ranking metropolitan newspaper. The Daily News is better, too.
