Squirrel causes a power outage in the Meadhouse neighborhood, just as the Brewers game is about to begin.

Crazy! Meanwhile, squirrels have moved in on the St. Louis Cardinals:
Busch Stadium has been overrun by squirrels in the last two days. On Tuesday night, a critter scurried across the field and ran around in foul territory. His reasoning: “I’m cute. I have a fluffy tail. I am totally going to get picked up by a ball girl!” On Wednesday, either the same squirrel or an accomplice dashed right in front of the plate as Roy Oswalt delivered a pitch. Umpire Angel Hernandez called it a ball, and Oswalt complained that he was distracted by the squirrel. ...

Batter Skip Schumaker flied out, so the squirrel had no impact on the game, but Oswalt was still fuzzy about the rules concerning four-legged interlopers. “I was wondering what size animal it needed to be to not have a pitch,” Oswalt said after the game. “If it ran up the guy’s leg, would he have called the pitch for a strike?”
What's with the squirrels? I've had it with these %$!# squirrels. And these %$!# snakes!

Fortunately, the power is back. Watch the Brewers and the Diamondbacks with us here at desquirrelified Meadhouse. (And hang out for the Phillies and the Cardinals and whatever squirrels there be.)

UPDATE: In the words of Nyjer Morgan: "Fuck yeah! Fuck yeah!"

UPDATE 2: Nice to see the Cardinals win too. As Meade put it over at Trooper's:
Flyover America rules.

Kiss it, Coasties.

Wisconsin can also be easily annoyed by horned frogs.

Maybe the squirrels are an early winter warning. If the Brewers make the World Series, we may see snowed out games.

Nah, DSK is back across the pond.

Their tails do seem to be fluffing up early this year.

One of my favorite phrases from Boortz is when he describes his experience with a certain satellite service: "It goes out if a squirrel farts in the neighborhood."

You're just now noticing that Madison has a squirrel problem?

Whoever develops an effective method for repelling squirrels will be an instant billionaire. Repellant sprays don't work. Squirrel-proof bird feeders don't work. We used to sell quite a few of these, though. I guess if the squirrel is going to ruin your life, you might as well get a little entertainment out of it.

Speaking of rascally scene-stealing squirrels disrupting televised events…

On the finale of BBC2's "The Great British Bake Off," the cameraman included some quick shots of adorable squirrels frolicking in the park.

Like this little guy-- I mean, big guy.

LOL, NSFW.

What is up with these rodents? California is also overrun. I saw 6-8 one day running around my back yard. The cat is terrified.

I've never seen a squirrel outage around here, but I've seen many squirrel-caused outages in my gmail from my "squirrel" Google alert.

I am listening to PBS Judy Woodruff interview Mitt Romney. I did not know that Judy W. is one of us - she is the supporter of Obama. Her questions to Romeny and her support of Obama was just: Wow!

We have already got PBS in the bag.

GOP, forget you. You are finished.

And I missed the obvious pun.

I will gladly import some foxes to your area of California. We are overrun with foxes who eat the squirrels......and the cat is terrified, of the foxes.

Plus the foxes continually poop on the deck, the walkway and last night....on top of the barbeque!!

Let me know your address, and I'll live trap some more of them and send them your way. No more squirrel issues....no more cat or small dog issues either unfortunately.

Texas, Detroit, Milwaukee and St. Louis. Not a big East Coast or West Coast market in the bunch. Fox has to be hating life right now from a World Series ratings standpoint, never mind the fact that all three Game 5s in this round of the playoffs were fantastic.

Last winter the squirrels chewed up the telephone junction box (or whatever it's called) and my end of the street was without phone service for days. The phone company fixed it, but the squirrels did it again. Then they chewed the telephone wire that ran to my house. AT&T gave me more than a month of credit for the undependable service.

Note that the Cardinals have gone about 25-10 since Nyjer Morgan began babbling. My hope is that he says something silly in the next two days. Odds are good.

I feel bad for the Brewers. I would root for them if it wasn't for my beloved Cardinals. And it's a damn shame that the same team that beat the Brewers the last time they were in the Word Series -- some 30 years ago -- is going to prevent them from going this year. But that's life.

It's a damn shame that the Cardinals aren't owned by Anheueser-Busch any more, and that Anheuser-Busch is now, in fact, part of some bunch of Euro ninnies. But that's free trade.

I am proud to be a fan of the big team from Little Ol' St. Louis -- winner of the second-most pennants in MLB history behind only those asshole spendthrift Yankees.

Speaking of the Yankees, so long suckers.

From down here in the Land of Sand, congrats to the Brewers. Go forth and conquer.

I lived in Milwaukee the last time the Brewers went to the world series. Geez, that was a long time ago.

Carpenter is the reincarnation of Bob Gibson in the 60's. We watched those games on roll-in TV's in elementary school (what a treat that was).

This is going to be quite an October.

ndspinelli: Good for you and your family. I know the feeling. Back in 1988 I took my law school student son to see a Dodgers World Series game, and we ended up seeing Kirk Gibson's home run. The feeling we had at that moment is easily recalled to this day, and it comes back each time one or the other of us sees a replay or reads about it. My guess is that you have a great family memory for life.

We were actually hoping for the Phillies - the road to the WS paved with the best team in baseball & we beat them to get there. I'd of liked that - a lot. Now, we get home field the rest of the way and a chance to avenge the '82 WS.

I'll take it!

Beast Mode, baby!

Trooper York said...

You can't root for the Cardinals to win Seven. It is not feasible. You need to only root for the teams that really have a chance. I mean you need to root for the Texas Rangers because they ran last time and it is their turn. So don't waste your time and resources on a team that can't win. Remember that it is not important if the Cardinals play the game they way you believe in....you have to root for the team that appeals to the undecided. The true Cardinal believers are not enough. You have to pull in Phillie Fans and Yankee Fans and a whole bunch of undecided Fans.

I have to go review you posts about Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney to find more reasons why you should not root for the Cards. Just sayn'
