"I lost vast tracts of time and not a few T-cells trying to understand and expose this farce, and it’s a huge relief that this preposterous saga is over."

Andrew Sullivan exults at "[h]elping to prevent [Sarah Palin] from getting her hands on power was one of my guiding goals once I realized the MSM was never going to do it... Just knowing she isn’t a threat is a huge psychic relief if you care about America and the world."

From a Politico article by Ben Smith titled "Sarah Palin industry faces depression." ("Palin lovers, Palin haters, a half-dozen publishing houses, and elements of the mainstream media who tracked her plans long after the Republican campaign bypassed her suddenly face a future without their entertaining, unpredictable, and now scarcely relevant subject.")

Will the world ever know the root cause of Sullivan's deranged hatred of Palin? Did she snatch the mic out of his hand during open mic night at The Eagle and perform a rendition of "I Will Survive" that Sullivan couldn't hold a candle to?

And I think AIDS, and not Palin, is responsible for those lost T-cells. And like AIDS, it will take more than time and money to get rid of her. Until we find a cure, just learn to live with her.

This confirms it, Andrew Sullivan is a fucking asshole.

No pun intended, none.

Well, you know it's true, he's right that the major problem with the MSM over recent years has been their unapologetic water-carrying for Sarah Palin. It was particularly disappointing how in the 2008 election they showed unvarnished desire to get her hands on the levers of power, refusing to evaluate her as a candidate and actively trying to thwart efforts to do so. During that election they were basically a bought-and-paid-for division of Team Palin.

So I agree completely with Mr. Sullivan.

Sarah Palin's the black guy who used to be the Illinois Senator, right?

Henry said...

Apparently, the motivating force for today's muckraking investigative journalism is self-pity.

That's just incredibly pathetic.

He has met the enemy and she is his navel.

I'm trying to think of some real tough questions asked of Palin by the MSM, then I realized she doesn't talk to the MSM, outside the friendly confines of Fox. I think there were two interviews from ABC and CBS in 2008. Any others? Certainly "what do you read" isn't an unfair question?

Breaking News: Andrew Sullivan pulls his head out of Sarah's uterus.

And of course, the obligitory toast to Andy:

"The writer stares with glassy eyes
Defies the empty page
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage

Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision

And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will rise no more...

Some are born to move the world
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you, the blind who once could see
The bell tolls for thee... "

I thought, she doesn't have to as she is a private citizen and you are the dumb dumbs wasting money following her bus. I mean, morons. Good for her that she used them for every dime after all of that "vetting."

It's been interesting to watch Andrew Sullivan's career dissipate like a fart in the wind, with apparently no one close to him possessing the power or the sanity to intervene.

Here's hoping Palin stays around long enough to relieve him of his remaining 4 or 5 T-cells.

Rialby said...

I thought he lost t-cells because he delighted in having unprotected sex with other men despite the fact that AIDs epidemic was raging through the homosexual community.

Rialby said...

Meanwhile, I thought this guy was going to get deported. Wikipedia says that the statute barring HIV positive people from becoming permanent residents expired so he holds a green card now. Another brilliant move by Congress. So, now you and I will have to pay for the medicine of people who shouldn't be here.

Palladian said...

So what's a tract of Sullivan's time worth in today's market, anyway?

Steve M. Galbraith said...

The only negative in this is that Sullivan won't disappear with her.

As someone asked above, is there anyone who can explain his twisted obsession with her?

She's a nothing and never had a chance of winning the presidency. No chance at all.

Rialby said...

"Certainly "what do you read" isn't an unfair question?"

Oh right. Remember when Charlie Gibson peered over his half glasses and sneered that question at Barack Obama? Oh wait. He wouldn't have done that. That's a racist question.

Rialby said...

"As someone asked above, is there anyone who can explain his twisted obsession with her?"

Maybe he doesn't like people who would suggest that putting ads in the paper soliciting guilt-free, condom-free gay sex DESPITE the fact that you're already HIV-positive is not the right thing to do? Not that Sarah Palin ever addressed it. But she might. THEOCRACY!!!

"Just knowing she isn’t a threat is a huge psychic relief if you care about America and the world."

This really is an unexplainable phenomenon. A bipartisanly popular governor of a relatively unpopulous state gets nominated not for president but for VP on a ticket that was most likely going to lose, no matter who took that spot. And the world teeters towards collapse. Seriously??

What was the existential threat involved with the nomination of Sarah Palin? What possible explanation justifies the hyperventilation? And, remember, it was from Day One, before she said a damn word and before she'd done a damn thing. Honestly, what drove people so insane as to look like fools for so long. Andrew Sullivan became an embarrassment and a parody of himself. Over what? A vice presidential candidate on a losing ticket? Again, seriously??

And then, of course, there's the question of whether this "saga" is "over". With the past being prologue, I'd say Andrew better keep his powder dry. We might yet need him to jump into the breach and defend us from this horrific threat. Oooooh, scary!

What ever will they obsess, lie, speculate, plot, scheme, sing honsanas to, spy on, slander, and vilify now? Stay tuned folks. SP has been pronounced politically dead before such as after she resigned the governorship, and when Sarah's pal Joe whatisname lost the Senate race to Murkowski only to get back up, dust herself off and get back in the limelight. Leaving aside Andy's weird dislike of women with power, I can understand why Andy is so relieved.

Elitists like Sullivan really dread/fear the day that average "Middle America" elects a President who represents them - I mean really represents them.

If someone like that was elected, people like Sully imagine all the contempt and dislike they feel toward the average American being returned in spades. Absurd of course. Its all projection - but it still scares him.

True democracy frightens people like Sully. Its Ok as long as the "right people" who went to the Ivy League have power, but what if someone like Palin - who's "not one of us" - gets elected?!

Anonymous said...

I know it's been pointed out on this blog, but I think Andrew Sullivan needs to believe in God via the Catholic church, but he also needs to justify not only his homosexuality, but a vulgar hedonism and dismal track record of behavior that helped land him with AIDS.

Sarah Palin, as a woman, threatens him (and an attractive woman). Sarah Palin as a believer who does not allow for his sexuality threatens him mightily. Sarah Palin as a woman on the frontier and all the places Sullivan doesn't know and understand and he likely fears...threatens him. She came not only politically to represent an enemy, but personally as well in a sick, illogical fixation.

I stopped even giving him any credit after he rabidly supported the Iraq invasion, then over a few months turned 180 and took almost no responsibility for his own positions and thoughts, and villifed and smeared the people positions for which he actively advocated. That is the sign of an unserious man whose judgment is not to be trusted.

It's only gotten worse. With his stable of young bloggers, he appeals to the hipster, himself, the liberal, himself, the anti-conservative and Obamaphile, and anyone who'll have him (though he pioneered many aspects of blogging).

He's pretty much lost any moral authority he had, and even his reasoning is not sound.

I often wish he'd go back to Britain and take Tina Brown and the Daily Best style of journalism with him

G Joubert said...

Sullivan has some real issues. He went berserk about the evils of waterboarding -- he was clearly obsessed by it -- and only after some weeks of this obsession did he kind-of sort-of wonder out loud if it was because he had a bad case of asthma as a child. The words he used to describe the oppression of not being allowed to marry his boyfriend were eerily like the words he used to describe the sensation of suffocation from asthma and waterboarding.
And check out this bit of Sullivan writing from 2000:

Instead, after swabbing a small patch of my rump down with rubbing alcohol, I push the needle in slowly until all three inches of it are submerged. Then I squeeze the liquid in carefully, as the muscle often spasms to absorb it. My skin sticks a little to the syringe as I pull it out, and then an odd mix of oil and blackish blood usually trickles down my hip.
.
Fr. Richard John Neuhaus once described Sullivan's homosexual identity as the "pole star" of his journalism. His obsession with Palin's uterus is part of his homosexual identity. This seems to be obvious to everyone who does not bear the name "Andrew Sullivan".

"Palin makes 12-15 million per year getting carted around in private jets. The middle America saps that kept sending her money in hopes she would run after she teased and strung them along are the biggest losers in this. Palin is the worst sort of grifter imaginable. "

Is that money she earns from the private sector? So a grifter would be someone who travels extensively for free on airplanes he doesn't own? How about going on expensive vacations? Does it only count if its private money, or does it also apply to anyone who does the same thing on the public dime?

AS is just another mendacious chameleon queer, like David Brock.

Sullivan mentions losing T-cells, but he really should also be concerned about brain cells, whatever his T-cell level, he apparently has precious few of the latter to spare.

Why does anyone read Sullivan anymore?

He says nothing. In fact, he's an a**hat, his logic challenged, his stance silly, his morality skewed, his mind a mush.

Years ago I saw a debate between Fr. Richard John Neuhaus and Sullivan in Washington, DC. This was before Sullivan went bat-shit crazy, and when he actually had reasonable things to say. Even then I was astonished at how nearly everything Sullivan said about politics revolved around his homosexuality. Neuhaus, of course, tailored his own responses accordingly--to the great amusement of the audience. Sullivan didn't seem to understand what was going on. He was gay, and therefore right.

As for Sarah Palin, despite all the attention paid to her, liberals still seem to make a number of mistakes regarding what she actually talks about. They assume that she's a staunch, crusading social conservative. She rarely talks about those things. But it serves liberals to pretend that she does. I think most of her critics never actually listen to her: they still get all their information about her from Jon Stewart and SNL. I'm not surprised by this, but you'd think that after three years they'd actually get something right about her. It gets tiresome.

Sarah Palin has become the Rorschach inkblot test of American politics.

Typically, I learn much more about the people commenting about her than I do about her.

There's more projection going on with respect to Sarah Palin than you'd see at an audio-visual equipment convention.

And yet how many times more relevant is Sarah Palin than Andrew Sullivan?

Hold on, let me do the math.
