His daughter just walked into the living room and said "Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, rent my room out, throw all my clothes out of the window, take my TV, and stereo, and iPhone, and iPod, and my laptop. Please take all of my jewelry to the Salvation Army or Cash Converters. Then sell my new car, take my front door key away from me, and throw me out of the house." Then disown me and never talk to me again. And don't forget to write me out of your will and leave my share to my brother. Well, she didn't put it quite like that.. she actually said... "Dad I have decided to work for Obama's reelection campaign."
@James: I think the lighthouse picture and house in the clearing of trees benefited tremendously from a higher dynamic range. The indoors stove picture took on a surreal/dreamy effect, and I like it quite a lot. But I think the first sunset picture and the dirt path through the trees would have been better without the technique. The details of the foreground rocks are distracting, and the trees in the dirt path picture are over-saturated, when HDR is best to bring out under-saturated details in shadowy areas. Like the rocks in the first picture...only not in that particular picture.
I was interested in buying a Nikon SLR recently because it had in-camera HDR available and I've wanted to experiment with it. But the Nikon had too many deficiencies compared to the Canon I ended up going with.

I can't get to The Macho Response site anymore - everytime I click on it, it jams up my computer - I have to open Task Manager to get moving again. I've tried it in Foxfire, get the same thing.
It is running slow with script errors or such. He did have a picture of Steve Jobs looking very very bad. And a link to that same Doctor comment Ann had, along with some quotes from Rush. And he is of course absolutely correct.
Gerry - I agree, the Dahlia case is fascinating. "Severed" is, IMHO, the best book on the murder. And the less said about the ghastly Brian DePalma movie, the better.
Off to vacation now, peeping at the New Hampshire leaves. Have a happy weekend and week.
@Coketown, thanks for the critique. I'll probably revisit those photos as I figure out Photomatix or whatever HDR software I end up choosing.
I actually prefer the subtle blended renditions from LR/Enfuse but most seem to prefer the over-saturated, tonemapped work of people like Trey Ratcliffe.
The sunrise photo is the only one that isn't tonemapped; its actually a Raw file developed in three ways to bring out the various elements then blended in Photoshop using layer masks. I'll probably toss it anyway because of the lens flare.
What camera did you get? I think its much better to do the HDR blending and tonemapping manually rather than in camera since you have much more control.
J did his act at Troop's, which is intended as a more light-hearted environment and not political.
OTOH, Ann gives everybody a lot of leeway in the name of free exchange; that takes people a lot farther.
edutcher, J takes us farther? I think you also missed why Trooper is not coming here anymore, Ann deleted him (and a bunch of ther posts) because she was pissed off.
J made sexual comments about my kids once. He is a fucking creep who should be immediately banned.

Where did Trooper and Crack go?
Buzzz.
NO! NO! BRING THE BEES!
The bees are good!
We lost our bees, here, in Southern California. And, my avocado tree won't bloom fruit.
That was easy.
Carol is now another Georgia Tech fan.
Time to bring in the tubers for the winter.
As if you need a MadisonMan to know which way the spuds grow.
Issa issues more subpoenas in Fast & Furious.
And the Dems embrace OWS.
Buzz indeed.
In Wisconsin:
"Retiring State Workers Converted Average of 43 Weeks Unused Sick Leave This Year"
"State Employees who retired so far in 2011 have converted more than $300 million in unused sick leave to pay for post-retirement health insurance"
"...sick leave accrues at the rate of five hours every two weeks, to a maximum of 16.25 days a year."
Talk about living inside a bubble. Now I know what all the caterwauling was about.
Its peak color around here but Michigan plays State tomorrow so I'll be on my couch.
I've been messing around with HDR photography recently, here are some of the results: http://jamesnorton.zenfolio.com/p223756658/slideshow
P.S. Hey Meade.

The Black Dahlia fascinates me. Strange and alluring murder, that.
These dahlias are simply beautiful.
Seems like there were way more Japanese Beetles this season.

Crack's site is still alive and he weighs in on Job's treatment too. Guess what his opinion is.
I went on Macho...

Not in my yard. They were almost absent. But not missed.

In Wisconsin:
I like the end of that article: Coming next: Reaction from legislators, others.
Let me forecast: Legislators, and their aides, all state employees, will not voluntarily give up this benefit.
"Where did Trooper and Crack go?"
Uganda?
It's beginning to look like the Elizabeth Warren caption will take its place in the heart of the Rightosphere right next to the Hitler video.
PS Troop and Crack are Occupying Occupation HQ.

You mean like Trey Parker and Matt Stone?
I'm telling you that bee is doing violence to that yellow flower.
Big game tonight for the Brewers..
Could help themselves by putting the cards up against the wall..
Of course now that I've said that.. The Brewers will come to ruin.

And that includes the Republican majority.
Hey, James. Nice slideshow.
Great pics, James.
Dahlia is one of Bertie Wooster's two aunts.
For those wondering what I meant by Elizabeth Warren captions, things like this.
WV "unday" How Katherine Hepburn and Tallulah Bankhead referred to their unmentionables.
I love how those seed pods glisten and the just-opening flower contrasts with the maroon, all against the dark leaves. Enchanting.

I missed this post. He has a point.
Of course he might be pissed at me. I hope not but if I am Tony Soprano to his Phil Leotardo, what can you do. But he is definitely pissed.
And J is a miserable creep. He should be banned. There is nothing redeeming about those posts.
