Some of the leaves are turning color, that's for sure. We might have a frost, but it won't be considered a killing frost. We have to have that killing frost, so we can have our Indian summer. Then it's all down hill after that.
Has anyone else been reading the 9/11 conspiracy theories series on Slate? It's pretty interesting, just delving into why conspiracy theories catch on and how these got their starts and things like that. But the comments! Wow, there are a truly amazing number of 9/11 conspiracy theorists who read Slate. I know that it's a liberal publication, and some of the commenters are on the goofy side, but I was still pretty shocked.
Lyssa - the number of libs who believe various conspiracy theories about George W far out paces the number of rightie birthers, etc. The make Mick look solid as a rock.
The presumption of innocence is actually a conservative idea. What you're really presuming is that the government is incompetent, corrupt, stupid, malign, and that we often cannot trust it.
Hence, when the government accuses a citizen of a crime, we presume that the government is screwing up, yet again.
This is why, as I've grown crankier and more right-wing in my old age, I dislike and distrust the death penalty.
The assumption has to be that the government is right. Not just right, but right right. 100% right. No errors, no way, we're always right, right.
So let's cheer! At last, the government program with the 100% rate of accuracy! Infallibility! We promise! Don't worry, we're the government.
I too have blowsy impatiens and leggy petunias and am eager to get on with new season plantings. Of course, here in the Bay Area we're just beginning to enjoy hot fog free summer days. I'll have to content myself with catalogs and juicy tomatoes for another month.
"No pinkness here. We're going to have another boy in January. Hooray!"
2 boys is good. I had 2 boys. Having 2 boys (or 2 girls) rather than a boy and a girl keeps you from equating whatever is different between the 2 with what seems to be generally the difference between males and females.
You are breaking my heart! I had to rip out and destroy all my purple coneflower. The dreaded aster yellows virus infected them so no more echinacea for me. You've a lovely grouping in that pic. Mead or a local public garden? I'm still learning companion planting. Harder than I expected.
Congrats, Freeman! Lifting a glass (of iced tea) to a healthy pregnancy.

notes: Presidencies can go through various stages in terms of their effect on the opposition – from eliciting respect and some amount of fear, to provoking anger, to becoming the object of ridicule.
Barack Obama has reached the third stage.
Tellingly, many on the left are increasingly taking note as well. If the stakes weren't so high, "the One's" fall from grace would be an enjoyable spectacle.

I question the timing.
Health is a very important thing to have.
I was ready to rip out my impatiens and put in mums over the weekend, but the wife stopped me.
I think the first frost will happen in part of the state late next week, though. (AllenS, I'm looking at you).

John Edwards is an ass. And a liar. But probably not a criminal.
Please send some of that sunshine our way.

Speaking of 9/11, I on the CA coast just heard a whole lot of awesome screeching jet noise going north....defense games for the weekend?
The sun is finally back out in northern Virginia.

Burr Cucumber, which will grow all over everything in two weeks, given a chance.
The political pundit of the plant world.

Oops.
No pinkness here. We're going to have another boy in January. Hooray!
Congratulations, Freeman!!
Congratulations, Freeman!
Post championships RedSox fans are called pink hats..
Congratulations Freeman.
Echinaceas are starting to look tired this time of year.
Yes! Congratulations Freeman.
oh so cool, freeman -- congratulations to you, your husband and little ones. sending more balloons your way.
watched a documentary in germany on the 9 11 conspiracy theories. seems possible.
I would like to see Warren Buffet's secretary's tax return.

Speaking of plant life, the Kelp in the Pacific Ocean has long been used as a binder in hamburgers.
Now the Ga Tech guys discovered that using kelp as a binder on the silicon anodes improves lithium-ion batteries charge life by 40%.
China will be happy.
hey, awesome, freeman!

Congrats Freeman Hunt!
Pink is color of choice for female apparel here on Long Island for almost generations now.
We are awash in pink.
I would like to see Warren Buffet's secretary's tax return.
How does Obama know what a citizen pays in taxes?
I thought that was private.. sacrosanct, second only to medical records.
2 boys is good.
I agree! (That's what we have now.) I should have specified that "another" will make three. Which will also be good.
Thank you all for the congratulations.
Congrats Freeman. Here's to an uncomplicated birth and a healthy kid!
"How does Obama know what a citizen pays in taxes?"
Because this is part of Warren Buffets "raise my taxes" spiel and he has given it to Obama as a talking point.
Congrats on the boy Freeman.
Not that girls are bad.
Of course, they say real men can wear pink. Of course, real men can plant echinacea in the garden.
If Buffet believes he should pay more taxes, whats keeping him from writing a check?
Obama and Buffet believe we are dimwits.
The more I think about this the more upset I'm getting..
The idea that that kind of bs still works.
I just planted Alamanda a couple of weeks ago, Cherries Jubilee. They're growing like weeds! Yay!
I'm awfully good at growing weeds.
The missus just planted vegetables in her areogarden starter tray. Once they sprout, off to the yard they go!
wv: trifyen ; we are always trifyen to grow stuff.
Agreed Lem.
Only one thing keeps Buffet from writing an enormous check to the U.S. Treasury and that thing is hypocrisy.
Freeman is giving birth to another free man. Hurray!
"I agree! (That's what we have now.) I should have specified that "another" will make three. Which will also be good."
3 is good too! I saw a family the other day that seemed to have 5 boys, apparently all different ages.
And yet, I think it would be fun to be a little girl with 2 older brothers!

How not to get all pink.
They keep showing that hole in the ground that used to be the WTC. Just lovely with the water, a real punk pool.
Congratulations, Freeman!
I'm having sympathy exhaustion and will get up to pee at 2am, just for you. :-)
Ten years later, and the Religion of Peace still has us by the balls.
Although we've become quite good at building memorials - honoring surrender.
