Email alert from CNN. Here's the article:
"We expected a weak report, and what we got was even weaker," said Patrick O'Keefe, director of economic research at J.H. Cohn.Ah, but wait. The President is about to give a speech about to a Joint Session of Congress. Perhaps he has an idea for a better and stronger after-dinner mint for the skunk!
The report was partially distorted by 22,000 state workers in Minnesota returning to work after a temporary government shutdown in July, as well as 45,000 Verizon workers on strike in August.
Those effects made it hard to compare the August jobs number to the 85,000 jobs gained in July.
Still though, the overall figure is considered dismal in comparison to job gains of about 200,000-a-month earlier this year.
"When our attention is drawn to the Verizon strike and the Minnesota situation, it's akin to saying that a skunk had bad breath, and then it took a dinner mint. That doesn't suddenly change the fact that it's still a skunk and it still stinks," O'Keefe said.

Obamalamadingdong. The graft that gives on giving.
Obama should blame the Chris Matthews and David Brooks types in the media who convinced him early on that his silver tongued oratory can solve any problem. Someone with executive experience would know better.
For the sake of all of us we need the US Supreme Court to quickly take all these conflicting Obamacare cases, have the hearing and then strike it down.
Don't wait until "June 2012" to release that opinion. It has to be done this fall. This is serious stuff. The economy is in bad shape and it is in the national interest to at least clear the decks of that terrible law.
That can't be, CBS said this morning 60K jobs for the month of August.
This isn't surprising, is it?
I mean, come on.
What did people expect from the least qualified man ever to be elected president?
November '12: It's not just an election, it's an intelligence test.
Austerity is working!
Within the first minute of the speech: "I inherited this."
"The dog ate my stimulus plan."
"The Republicans are responsible."
Anything but the truth.
What austerity, Garage?
Austerity is working!
We have no idea what austerity really is.
The problem with these "one-time" distortions is that they happen every month. Last month I think there was a one time 25,000 job distortion from the government shut down in Minnesota.
CNN fails to note that the one-time distortions from prior months also flip positive as one-time distortions in subsequent months.
What we really need is the Administration to be positive about all business rather than demonizing everything except green jobs. It's probably too late though. No one would believe Obama at this point if he came out as "pro-business."
He promised we'd have to do more with less.
I'd say he got us out of our comfort zone like Meeshell said he would.
Too bad he's not practicing what he preaches.
Will his speech sound like a eulogy for his policies? If so, he could revive his re-election prospects. Unforunately for Prez Obama, he is far too stuborn and doctrinaire to abandon his librul beliefs.

You forgot "there are actions this congress can take right now to stimulate growth...(blah, blah, blah)"
and later on we'll hear about my favorite, "high-speed rail!" The answer to what ails us.
This is the first time that zero jobs growth was reported since 1945.
It surprises me that there has never been a month with negative job growth since 1945. Cuban missile crisis, the oil embargo in the 1970s, 9/11 -- none of these things caused a month-long drop in job growth?
Or is it just that there's never been a month at zero?
o_O
If only we'd had speech before a joint session of Congress in July!
What austerity, Garage?
That thing conservatives have been bragging about.
In Wisconsin, Walker got everything he could have ever wanted, promising 250,000 jobs. Where are they?
Heck of a job, Oh-Zero.
What austerity? Didn't Garzgd say that Madison is the land of milk and honey?
He promised we'd have to do more with less.
So, we got less with more - less employment, more money spent.
It's pretty clear to me that the Jobs numbers are cooked every week. You have to look at the underlying numbers. I've seen as many as 3 weeks in a row where the jobless claims were "down" from an "upwardly revised" previous week. So after 3 weeks of reduced claims the actual number is higher that it was at the beginning. Last week we were told the numbers were up because of the Verizion Strike. Since when do striking workers qualify for unemployment benefits when they walked away from their job. And while we're at it can anyone tell me why they went back to work? Where is the missing story about this? I'd bet that someone in the whitehouse called a union boss, and said something to the effect of "Hey guys, you know this strike thing really isn't working out for us right now. just put your people back to work, and we'll make it up to you later". Anyway last week the numbers were "elevated" by the version strikers, This week the numbers were down because they went back to work, but not down by the same number that went back to work. This detail was not pointed out by the msm. In effect the claims numbers were up.
Good thing everyone who voted for him realizes that they made a mistake!
And now he's off to Camp David to rest up from his busy week after his vacation.
Boy, reading a teleprompter must be exhaustifying for this lightweight.
Interesting that zero and o are so similar in Georgia. I hadn't noticed that before. Here in the comments, Trebuchet makes for less visual harmony.
"Austerity is working!"
Only in the fevered imaginations of the idiot left are annual trillion dollar deficits "austerity."
Unbelievable.
Except, of course, it isn't.
The new President of the Council of Economic Advisers was just named. He hasn't yet had time to tell POTUS that 99 weeks of unemployment insurance is a bad policy.
Republicans want to know how the mints are going to be paid for ;)

"Wisconsin Job Growth Outpacing the Nation"
...in Wisconsin, but our job growth percentage has been twice the national average"
Now, are you an idiot or a liar?
I suspect that Obama is like Jimmy Carter; he is doing exactly what he was wanting to do and thinks he is doing just fine at it.
His goals are not our goals.
"Good thing everyone who voted for him realizes that they made a mistake!"
God, if only that were true.
Too many people are too stupid to learn from their mistakes.
And too many people weren't smart enough to see the Dali-Obama for what he is: the least qualified man to ever be elected president.
95% of those idiots will vote for him again.
They'll deserve the result; pity for the rest of us the nation's future will be cannibalized by annual trillion dollar deficits.
"What did people expect from the least qualified man ever to be elected president?"
Just what we got: eight disastrous years, two wars, torture, mass murder, illegal surveillance of American citizens, and economic decline as a result of policies designed to embiggen the riches of the already rich.
Following that, we're getting more of the same with his successor.
Now, are you an idiot or a liar?
Garage is a progressive.
He's both.
But the 13 keys say Obama will be reelected, so not to worry.
Recovery is just around the corner.
It appears the new jobs program means hiring regulators at the EPA or NLRB or Fish&Wildlife to raid more and more businesses, shutting them down.
Then the regulators can raid each other for infinite work.
BHO the Underpants Gnome's Job Plan:
1. Hyper-regulate businesses so they spend all thier money on compliance.
2. ???
3. Profit!
"Now, are you an idiot or a liar?
Garage is a progressive.
He's both."
He's always been an overachiever.
Is there really anything left to say?
I mean, hell. Even the jokes are stale.
Like Carter, business does not trust or respect Obama, and for good reason. And, like Carter, it will be the business community that defeats Obama, not the bozo Republicans.
I think the best re-election strategy for Obama would be to run against himself. He can reveal that he is in fact suffering from Bi-polar disorder. The left can then have a new reason to feel sorry for him. I mean we really can't discriminate against him based on psychological disorder can we? 2008 "Lets elect the first Bi-racial president" 2012 "lets elect the first Bi-ploar president" . Ok, I know he's really not Bi-polar, He actually suffers from narcissism, But the DSSM 5 is going to eliminate that diagnosis for his benefit.
Obama has jumped so many sharks lately that he would get our sympathy if he only started to tell the truth about anything.
But alas, acting skill is all that he has ever known, and the script writers have forever jumped the shark.
His Lost in Marxism series will be cancelled soon.
Marxism always gets itself to the point of economic activity collapse , and then there are only two options left for it:
1) Kill off the middle class management people with memory of the past economic prosperity methods, or
2)Kill off itself by converting into a capitalistic free system.
The next 18 months should be very interesting to see which one Obama chooses to do to us.
Rioting mobs of entitled people faced with having to find real jobs or else starve will intimidate the Government and become an available crisis for Obama to use.
Therefore, I predict Obama will create an emergency work force recruited to build a network of work camps, complete with Barb wire and guard towers to protect the workers from the riots of course, and taken there at gunpoint on trains to better Concentrate the population needing to be fed and housed with a minimum of emissions of evil CO2 pollution.
Obama can then be awesome forever.
"Following that, we're getting more of the same with his successor."
I, for one, am gratified the idiot left always makes its presence known.
It is impossible for them to pass as normal people with normal intelligence. They reflexively out themselves.
The rest of us have no excuse for not knowing them for who they are.
Scott Walker Unveils Plan to Bring 250,000 Jobs and 10,000 New Businesses to Wisconsin by 2015

And are you that pathetic you can't even link to what your pasting?
Deh tuk er jobs!!

This is not about the failure of only one branch of government. Lots of blame to go around. And the eurozone is still a mess. Many 1st world economies are slowing down and/or going into a double dip. .
Except for China and India. China has been running a HUGE stimulus program since the recession started.
This is how empires fall.

I demand to speak to a joint session of Congress or before the ball game if that's OK. I have a plan, I promise.

In the Lotus thread, Chip Ahoy pointed out this disturbing article about Obama's past.
Not really surprising, but it does show why he simply doesn't give a shit about the jobs numbers.
"[The current American ruling class] knows about America only that it must be changed, and looks at the vast majority of Americans the way carpenters look at warped pieces of lumber. Barack Obama is neither more nor less than its product and agent."
Garbage:
Weren't you hired in August to stalk Gov. Walker on a fulltime basis? How come that wasn't included in the new jobs total!
Ha! I created more jobs than the President last month.
Super secret ones the BLS doesn't know of?
...and extending the Bush tax cuts. Where's all them jobs? I feel hoodwinked.
Heck of a job, Barry!

Job Growth
Now July's number's were down. We are still ahead of most of the country. No state plan is going to offset national and international conditions.
You're an idiot.
The missing jobs have been spotted.
They are all in China now where all of the world's capital investment has gone in search of profiting off the 80 cents an hour Chinese work force.
And if South Carolina is not readmitted to the USA on an equal footing soon, then Boeing will assemble its Dreams in China like all of the other American designed products.
But have no fear. Obama will bet all of our futures on elimination of dirty CO2 emissions from a third world USA.
That emissions job will be done over in China too.

Yep.
One of the keys to promoting job growth is political stability and certainty. Walker may have enacted the right policies, but if I were thinking about expanding in Wisconsin, the ongoing political turmoil and recall threats would definitely weigh negatively against that decision.
Well, the economic collapse did commence under Bush.

BTW, do we count public sector jobs saved or created by Walker since the repair bill?
Well, the economic collapse did commence under Bush.
With the obvious response that the exploding budgets really started with the Democratic retaking of Congress in 2006, and the crash a direct result of policies pushed so heavily by Congressional Democrats to make housing "more affordable" (by eliminating the ability to repay loans as a requirement for getting the loans).
Is there ever gonna be a "How Obama lost me"
The justification of needing to see a little partisan purity in the people responsible, so we can see the effect of our vote, has not materialized. That's not even a very realistic expectation considering our system and the split in the nation's ideology.
Obama has done a mixed up mess of just throwing things in the pot, and was never a leader who could create a clean ideological direction even with the press behind him.
Domestically, he did things like extended the Bush tax cuts to all brackets (a good thing). He basically followed the Bush Foreign policy except where he melted some soft gooey ass rhetoric on top to ruin it. Then he lets the Pelosi Congress add a heap of their crap, throws a few things in from the liberal garbage and day-old bread bin, and smiles while stirring it with a big class war spoon.
The only clear thing Obama has shown us is that incompetence doesn't work. Letting everyone cook does not make a quality soup. I may prefer a think broth, and his type might like a thick chowder, but what he has made is neither, and after emptying out the cupboards nobody wants any of this slop.
I know his school of soup has no nutritional value and is quite poisonous when served alone, and it always empties the refrigerator in the process, but he isn't even talented in his own style.
We didn't get the meal, but we got the bill anyway.
garage mahal, is it your proposition that a 4-year plan to create jobs and attract businesses to a state can be evaluated on the basis of one month's data in year 1?
We will NEVER have jobs growth as long as companies can hire people abroad to do the same work cheaper.
Actually, the reality is that we will never have job growth as long as the federal government is taking as much of the economy as it is, and is churning out anti-business regulations as quickly as the GPO presses can print them. And, as long as it is cheaper to bribe politicians for political advantage and handouts than to earn those profits in an open market.
But keep on dreaming. But it might be nice if you were to take some classes in economics.
OK, first to slap you down over your moronic claim that Walker promised 250,000 jobs at this point here is a link showing it was by 2015:
I didn't make that claim. But if your bleeding 12,500 jobs in July and unemployment is going up, it's pretty hard to make that promise, right Einstein?

MadisonMan wrote: It surprises me that there has never been a month with negative job growth since 1945.
From gerry's link:
It was the first time since World War II that the economy had precisely net zero jobs created for a month.
This big news is just a trivia question. Zero jobs is better than lost jobs.
When they revise the job numbers, as they always do, the zero will go away. It is a fugitive zero.
and is churning out anti-business regulations as quickly as the GPO presses can print them
This. This, this, and this. And it's not just the Federal government's issue. There are states that are just as bad. Layers and layers of regulation and paperwork have prevented a lot of people from starting businesses they would have in an otherwise more friendly business environment and prevented expansion where a business already exists.
Well, oddly enough I didn't think another speech would do much. And, the audiences have been dropping off.
What if this little "trick" brings more audience in?
He can't do any worse, ya know?
And, nobody out of work, with houses "underwater," and their investments gone ... expect much changes ahead, anyway.
You don't want the Federal Goverment? Perhaps, you prefer the local cops, huh?

What's really funny (assuming, unrealistically, that these job reports are perfectly accurate) is that if you'd hired one less employee there would have been a net -1 job, for the whole nation.

Obama's only hope is an intensive bout of revisionism coupled with an epidemic of cognitive dissonance. This has never been a problem with "Progressives" who routinely believe ten impossible things before breakfast, and are therefore of little consequence in the real world. The so-called independents are minds actually at risk, so as remedy I offer this little reminder of history the Dems would have you forget.
But the 13 keys say Obama will be reelected, so not to worry.
Lest anyone really panic over those 13 keys, let me suggest that the reason that it is probable that Obama will lose this coming election is that his economic incompetence will be visibly compounded by the blatant corruption of his Administration.
We see, time and again, how crony capitalism has worked to skim stimulus, TARP, etc. monies into the pockets of his contributors, etc., with just the latest being the half billion dollars in federal loan guarantees to big Obama contributor George Kaiser's Solyndra corporation that just failed.
But the corruption that is going to frame the corruption debate is the Fast and Furious scandal that is slowly emerging in Congressional investigations. See: Issa, Grassley make good on promise to expand “Fast & Furious” investigation, and then the comments.
The investigation has now expanded from the BATF to the U.S. Attorney's office in Arizona, and may be claiming the AUSA there, one of Janet Napolitano's protegees. Meanwhile, the White House admitted that people working there were briefed on the project long before it blew up.
Right now, it looks eminently feasible that both the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security were involved, or at least those directly reporting to them were. Could Obama survive the resignations of either, or both of them, in election year over this scandal? Also, keep in mind, that at some point in the next year, if the trail doesn't go cold (which right now seems highly unlikely), we are likely to see an independent prosecutor appointed to investigate this, esp. since the AG, or at least his top deputies, seem to be at least somewhat involved (the DoJ stonewalling Congress seems justification for this, if nothing else).

Our company's only real competition is China. Our products are all copied by Chinese importers within a month after we release them.
Yet we have doubled our payroll in the last two years through hiring, pay increases and bonuses. Our customers voluntarily gave us that money and want to give us more. Our business, (low tech manufacturing - the most vulnerable to China) has surged.

Perry paraphrase (of his actions): Gov is not the problem, not-Gov is the problem.
Great to know Perry will bring his gov employee hiring boom to the nation, finally a true conservative.
Between December 2007 and last June, private-sector employment in Texas declined by 0.6 percent while public-sector jobs increased by 6.4 percent, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall, government employees account for about one-sixth of the workforce in Texas.
And, BHO has seen at least eighteen months of positive (though often meager) private sector job growth. Of course the net number is greatly weighed down because so many gov jobs are being slashed, even though the private sector is hiring. But, Perry doesn't cut gov workers, he hires more!
In baseball news:
Garage mahal, after seeing catcher Matt Weiters double in a run for Baltimore in the 2nd inning, predicts the loss for the Toronto Blue Jays.
His sports analysis is right up there with his political analysis.
"You'll vote Obama 2012 without hesitation, despite your blathering that he is beholden to Republicans and financial elites."
No, I doubt it. I take second place to no one in my dislike of Cook's reflexive "America-Is-Always-The-Problem" nonsense, but he is, at least, consistent in his hatred for the established D/R parties.
I suspect Cook will vote Green, or Constitutionalist or some other fringe party (I don't see him as a libertarian, except perhaps as a very timid one), but I would lay down good money he would never vote for Obama.
Actually, it's CA that's passing the babysitting laws. (No truth to the rumor that sitters must read Heather Has Two Mommies to them before bed.)
They will probably succeed. Our legislature is insane.
So, Einstein, what does "they" in your second sentence refer to?
The jobs! Where are the fucking jobs he promised?
Actually, it's CA that's passing the babysitting laws.
So...instead of vetting one person to trust with my child's life, I now have to worried about vetting each and every other sitter than might spell her for a break?
I assume they are going to enforce some sort of anti-sexual discrimination as well, then, correct? After all, the daycare field is overwhelming full of women. Men not only aren't proportionally represented, they are prevented from even entering the field because of the neanderthal-like societal fear of male care-givers.
Robert Cook wrote: The tax cuts have contributed greatly to our economic collapse, starving the government of necessary revenues.
Necessary revenues to do what? Where, in the last 12 years has the government scrimped? Are you worried about the deficit. But Keynesian stimulus requires deficit spending. Revenue isn't the issue.
Your theory needs more work. Maybe you can outsource it to a cheaper theorist in China.
Robert Cook ought to be very pleased by today's news that the DOJ of President Running-Dog Lackey of the Wall Street Imperialists is about to sue a dozen big banks for swindling poor, innocent Fannie and Freddie.
That should really free up those excess reserves the banks have been sitting on, inexplicably.
The smell of desperation is in the air, not skunk. Be very afraid of what mischief Mr. Obama is going to pull out of his sleeve in his speech next week.
Robert Cook said...
No, we got a war to suppress the terrorism that murdered 3000 Americans (of course, Cook doesn't care about them), fought with legal interrogation methods and the lowest collateral casualties in history, and a tax cut that benefitted all Americans."
Our invasion of Iraq had nothing to with the murdered 3000 Americans, as Iraq had nothing to do with them. (For that matter, neither, really, did Afghanistan.)
Of course not. It just happened that Al Qaeda had a safe haven in A-stan and chose to make the decisive battle in Iraq. It was just one of those things that Saddam was a heavy underwriter of terror groups, that there's evidence AQ used his facilities to train for 9/11 and Iraqi intel officers attended the planning, and that Iraq had become "the Motel 6 of Terrorism".
Just co-incidence.
Our "interrogation methods" included (and probably still include) torture, never legal no matter who says so.
Including all the Democrats who later screamed it was eeeevil?
Cook thinks his word should be law.
/shudder
The tax cuts have contributed greatly to our economic collapse, starving the government of necessary revenues.
We get more revenue from tax cuts than tax increases, the record is clear. Cook just loves the smell of class warfare in the morning.
It smells like...
stupidity!
"'Following that, we're getting more of the same with his successor.'
"No, we're getting corruption, incompetence, and colossal malfeasance, misfeasance, and nonfeasance in office."
As I said, we're getting more of the same!
No, Dubya, Darth, and Rummy knew their stuff.
GodZero is just another Cook.
Where are the fucking jobs he promised?
I'm no doctor, but this appears to indicate a fairly advance stage of derangement.
Rx: Get away from that internet-access device and return to that life of yours that usually only calls when you're getting beaten up in a thread.
Were you home schooled, garage?
@Christopher in MA. Franklin Pierce was perhaps our worst president, but he was reasonably experienced: Speaker of the New Hampshire House, Representative, Senator, Mexican War Veteran.
Henry, I knew that, but thanks for the reminder. And frankly, I also think Arthur was a much better president than is generally believed. But I was trying to point out the utter absurdity of Cook's claiming Dubya was the least qualified man ever to be president. I wouldn't put him in the top tier, but he certainly was no disaster like Buchanan.
But this brings up another question for Cook - exactly what qualifications would he consider essential for a presidential candidate?
Were you home schooled, garage?
No, why?
Yes, Scott, but it's for the children! The government knows best.
Don't forget the meal breaks and rest periods, either. So I guess you will have to hire 2 instead of 1 now for every night out.
@Christopher -- I certainly agree with your larger point. Obama is about the equivalent of Harding, I would say, but without the affability.
The jobs! Where are the fucking jobs he promised?
Why, do you need one? You can always fall back on your acumen for sports predicting.
You can blame Walker for the WEAC having to slash 40% of it's staff I guess. The recall elections are expensive.
Due to the CA babysitter law, I recommend marching your children down to the legislature .................... and leaving them there.
You can always fall back on your acumen for sports predicting.
What are you babbling about? Are you drunk?
Henry, I always felt bad for Harding, since I don't think he ever really wanted to be president, but he enjoyed the male cameraderie and the "smoke-filled room" aspect of politics. So in that very small comparison, I would say Obama is like Harding in not wanting to actually do the job, but enjoy the perks (like Nan Britton, if you believe the story).
There are two Harding quotes that I've always felt really captured the essence of the man, and also the terrifying sense of isolation when you become the place where the buck stops:
When the Teapot Dome scandals were bubbling up, he is reported to have said, "I have no problem with my enemies. But my friends, my goddamn friends are the ones that keep me walking the floor at night!"
Then, lamenting about his own intellectual shortcomings, he was said to have cried to an aide (and this one I am paraphrasing - badly, I'm sure):
"I can't make heads or tails of this tariff problem. First one group of economists comes in and tells me something and I think they're right, then another group comes in and I think they're right! Somewhere I know there's a book that would explain it all, but I don't know that I could read it. And there must be a man out there who's got the answer, but I don't know where he is, and I don't know if I'd even understand him if I found him! My God, this is a hell of a place for a man like me to be!"
"... We will NEVER have jobs growth as long as companies can hire people abroad to do the same work cheaper...."
Too bad liberals don't get as upset when foreigners come here illegally to do the same work cheaper.
I bet every President feels that second Hardin quote. This is where history-informed ideology comes in, and why I think it's the most important qualification. What does a man turn to when he's not confident of the answer and doesn't know anybody he trusts that has the answer. A lot of Presidential decisions are like this. What he believes in is then paramount. He will never be smart enough for these questions, but he will either be right or wrong.
Between December 2007 and last June, private-sector employment in Texas declined by 0.6 percent while public-sector jobs increased by 6.4 percent, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall, government employees account for about one-sixth of the workforce in Texas.

-----
What's really embarrasing is you just don't seem to grasp the complete falacy of comparing two different time frames.
if you look from 2007 - current, of course Texas has lost jobs. The country lost millions of private sector jobs during the great crash.
But if you look at the time frame you apply to Obama, the last 18 months, you'll see that Texas private sector job growth has rebounded strongly, and accounts for half of all of Obama's private sector "jobs created or saved" in the entire country.
Complaining about Texas' job losses since 2007 but conveniently cutting off the begining of Obama's term when there were millions of private sector job losses is a nice little dishonest rhetorical trick but it won't get you far with someone who can actually think.
Oh and total public sector job losses since the crash are a tiny fraction of the total job losses, so that is not a heavy driver of unemployment.
Our invasion of Iraq had nothing to with the murdered 3000 Americans, as Iraq had nothing to do with them. (For that matter, neither, really, did Afghanistan.) Our "interrogation methods" included (and probably still include) torture, never legal no matter who says so.
-------
Really, the home base of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda really had nothing to do with 9/11?
You are truly a one of a kind idiot.
-----------
I still want an answer to this question.
I'm guessing that Cook is a closet truther.
Patca said about California's new babysitting regulations:
"Our legislature is insane."
You got that right!
Ø . . . Net Zero Man!
"... The tax cuts have contributed greatly to our economic collapse, starving the government of necessary revenues...."
Unfortunately the facts indicate otherwise. Revenues actually increased but the government being what it is, spent above and beyond the additional revenues.
The collapse came from overleveraging, particularly in housing. Look no further than Greece to see what confiscatory taxation and a welfare state will get you. Only a fool thinks we cam tax and spend our way out of this.
"...No, I doubt it. I take second place to no one in my dislike of Cook's reflexive "America-Is-Always-The-Problem" nonsense, but he is, at least, consistent in his hatred for the established D/R parties..."
If your a socialist that's not hard to achieve.
Wisconsin is creating jobs!
Didn't Walker just announce that the state hired 400 people to clean up the $5million mess that is still in the Capitol? Some of that crew will be kept on full time to water & fertilize the many palm trees that are located around the Square...
If property taxes on a law prof's house are $13,000 a year, I can see how it might be tough to attract people to want to live, work or start a business in Wisconsin.
It's not like I'd ever move there for the climate.
"No, why?"
Because you don't understand simple sentence structure.
Instapundit: “Mr. Ryan chided the administration—which once predicted that the 2009 stimulus bill would hold unemployment under 8%—for now projecting that unemployment would remain higher than 8% for the remainder of Mr. Obama’s current term.” Yes, it’s good to keep pointing out that the stimulus bill didn’t deliver on Obama’s promises. Obama lied, the economy died!
"If your a socialist that's not hard to achieve."
That's "you're".
If McCain had been elected, there wouldn't have been any new jobs in August.
Wishful thinking - believing that the economic policies of the Democrats in Congress between 2007 and 2011, and the Obama Administration had nothing to do with the current problem, but rather, they were all just innocent bystanders.
Did Senator McCain vote for ObamaCare? The "stimulus" bill? Dodd-Frank?
Because you don't understand simple sentence structure.
Ok, "the job numbers are falling way short of promised goals". Better?
Huge sweeping majorities in the House, statehouses, governships all over the country enacting their agendas, promising new jobs, and yet job numbers have gone down since. Who knew passing abortion bills, voter ID bills, and crushing unions wouldn't create new jobs?

Sir I tip my hat to you. Truly a trenchant observation.
"I suspect Cook will vote Green, or Constitutionalist or some other fringe party (I don't see him as a libertarian, except perhaps as a very timid one), but I would lay down good money he would never vote for Obama."
You've got that right! I didn't vote for him last time around...I sure wouldn't vote for him now that he's shown himself to be worse that I expected him to be!!
It's not like I'd ever move there for the climate.
We had an absolutely fabulous August, and next week looks to be sublime.
Nice vote you cast their m'am...totally rational...
At least truman had a legitimate reason for the zero jobs growth that year, reducing the wartime military of nearly 16 million men and woman under arms by 90%. Today's zero growth is very scary.
I've often wondered if this is a big part of Obama's reluctance to wind down the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, et. al.: dumping another 100,000-200,000 now-unemployed and highly visible veteran sailors, soldiers, and airmen back into the workforce. Not a huge number, but when you're struggling to show ANY gain in employment, still a problem.
If a previous comment made mention of this, I apologize in advance. But this chart should be the only campaigning needed for "the one's" opponent. It really is breathtaking:

Robert Cook, political socialist and grammar Nazi.
Sorry madman, one month doesn't make up for 8 months of Siberia like weather. Hell Hoosier weather sucks enough.
The tax cuts have contributed greatly to our economic collapse, starving the government of necessary revenues...
Actually lack of jobs on which people pay taxes has contributed greatly to our economic collapse.
That's the discussion, what is necessary.
Cowboy poetry? Not so much.

"With salaries, social taxes and benefits they are already nearly 60% of what a comparable US employee would cost me in my state. Its a sad commentary when the communist Chinese government is more business friendly that the US government."
So, your definition of "business friendly" is that your labor costs are lower? How does this conflict my statement that jobs will return to American only when prevailing wages here drop to a level that makes us competitive with foreign lands, (which means no one here would be able to afford the life style to which we've become accustomed)?
How about the reality that higher labor costs are "worker friendly," and ultimately "business friendly" in that working people making more money buy more stuff from businesses?
Our invasion of Iraq had nothing to with the murdered 3000 Americans,
I never could figure out why we invaded Morocco, wasn't it after Pearl Harbor.
I'd like to know how many jobs garage has created. So come on big mouth, fess up.
We had an absolutely fabulous August, and next week looks to be sublime.
Can't compare to the year-round weather greatness that is the Seattle area.
Cookie:
Please tell me what a real left winger looks like. You never have answered that one.
Huge sweeping majorities in the House, statehouses,
In Wisconsin the GOP majority is razor-thin and you know it. Way to continue the intellectual dishonesty garbage.
Of course if we pass a $5 trillion porkapalooza package, that will create 20 million jobs just like that.
But where are we going to get the money?
How about the reality that higher labor costs are "worker friendly," and ultimately "business friendly" in that working people making more money buy more stuff from businesses
According to Nancy Pelosi, food stamp recipients also buy more stuff.
Can't afford to, have to pay for the reality of Obamacare. And higher gas prices because we can't provide our own, oddly enuf, providing our own means union jobs.
What to do, what to do.
Ask yourself why corporate America which is sitting on trillions in cash is not hiring. They hate Obama and they are deliberately spiking the economy to get him out of office. Traitor pigs.
How about the reality that higher labor costs are "worker friendly," and ultimately "business friendly" in that working people making more money buy more stuff from businesses?
---------
lol you just took all the idiocy of demand side sconomics and condensed it into one sentence.
If all the workers get paid a higher wage, won't the goods that they make be neccesarily more expensive? Thus making their purchasing power the same.
Money isn't magic. It's innovation and productivity that create wealth. It's what you buy that is the wealth, not the bills you have in your pocket, which are just a medium of exchange.
wv = feritt
That is all.
According to Nancy Pelosi, food stamp recipients also buy more stuff.
I never got this. It's like there's no middle ground in her head between a poor food-stamp user, spending everything they have just to meet basic necessities versus some millionaire she apparently thinks lives in squalor, eating navy beans three times a day and sleeping on his huge mountain of gold coins.
There's no way a food-stamp family puts more back into the economy than my family, making a bit over $100k a year, does whether in groceries, gas, utilities, leisure or goods like flatscreen tvs and other large appliances.
I don't get it.
(The Uncredentialed, Crypto Jew)
There's no way a food-stamp family puts more back into the economy than my family, making a bit over $100k a year, does whether in groceries, gas, utilities, leisure or goods like flatscreen tvs and other large appliances
What you make over $100K!!!??? “J” and “Cookie” will be by to dispossess you that, soon enough I wager…
Let me just say, “Rich Nerd.”
"Who knew passing abortion bills, voter ID bills, and crushing unions wouldn't create new jobs?"
1) Where have abortion bills been passed (or even offered)?
2) Where have voter ID bills been passed? Why do you object to "1 person, 1 vote" anyway?
3) If having public employees chip in modestly more towards their own benefits (and still not contribute nearly as much as most private sector workers, who pay the salaries of those public employees) constitutes "crushing" the unions, then... I don't know what to say. There must not have been much there to crush? Are the unions so crushed that they've laid off large portions of the union bureaucracy?
Scott:
The money that pays for the food stamps must come from somewhere else. More money for foodstamps means less money spent by someone else. When you factor in the transfer costs the dollar taken from the taxpayer or bond purchaser yields less then a dollar spent on food by the recipient. The economy gets smaller, not larger, because of the transfer. We can accept this tradeoff for important national level requirements like defense but not for pork barrel or excessive welfare spending.
Who in this progressively more dishonest adminstration is going to take the fall for this?
@jerry
Yeah...I get that, you get that, but how does someone reaching one of the highest pinnacles of government power not get it?
"How about the reality that higher labor costs are "worker friendly," and ultimately "business friendly" in that working people making more money buy more stuff from businesses?"
Ah, the "Henry Ford" school of economics.
Actually, Cookie, they then buy that stuff from suppliers that have lower labor costs.
Honda, Toyota, Acer, et al come to mind?
"Ask yourself why corporate America which is sitting on trillions in cash is not hiring. They hate Obama and they are deliberately spiking the economy to get him out of office. Traitor pigs."
Well, no. They simply have no need or intention of hiring more Americans. Don't you people get it? They don't need any more domestic employees! Automation and outsourcing have made American jobs redundant and too expensive! The corporations are sitting on the cash because they can, until they decide how they want to spend it for their own benefit.
This is not a failure of Obama's government, but a success of government policies put in place over the last few decades for the benefit of big business!
Ask yourself why the Obama administration is hostile to business, threatening new taxes and numerous, onerous regulations for the private sector. Obama hates America and is deliberately destroying the economy to gain power for himself. Traitor pig.
There. Fixed it for you.
Heavens, Obamalamadingdong must have nothing to say in this JSOC speech next week. Oh boy! More speechifying and taxpayer-funded fundraising stops in the weeks ahead!
After today's dismal jobs report, there is this:
U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis expressed optimism about the jobs situation. “I do feel like we’re going in the right direction,” Solis said.
EGAD, do these people have any freaking clue, at all?
Then there is this:
Black unemployment surged to 16.7% in August, its highest level since 1984, while the unemployment rate for whites fell slightly to 8%, the Labor Department reported.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/02/news/economy/black_unemployment_rate/
I've said it before in previous threads, but it is absolutely astounding to understand why minority voters are so beholden to the democrat party. Really, what exactly have they done for them?
Every time he speaks the Dow drops, the unemployment rate spikes, our national credit rating suffers, and he gets lower numbers, and the Chinese get ready to invade. Forget Al-Qaeda. Bam is taking the country down single-handed. Our one remaining hope is that he will abdicate.
This is not a failure of Obama's government, but a success of government policies put in place over the last few decades for the benefit of big business!
What we needed 30 years ago was huge protectionist policies. But the barn door has closed after the horse has left. It's too late. One thing we might want to consider is declaring these corporations illegal and seizing their assets.
"What we needed 30 years ago was huge protectionist policies."
We tried that once before, called the 1930 Tariff Act, sponsored by Smoot and Hawley. How'd that work-out for the USA?
"One thing we might want to consider is declaring these corporations illegal and seizing their assets."
Great! And after that, all the 401K's and IRA's, and after that.....
Who are you really?

I suppose if one considers 226 overcast days per year and 140 rain days per year on average "greatness", then that also explains their economic suggestions.
