"Walkerville Summer Camp is officially in session, and there were minimal problems to report..."

"... in spite of David Blaska’s doom and gloom about some sort of Leftist Apocalypse happening as a result of the event’s city approval. Police presence was high, including mounted units for some reason. They were met with what mostly turned out to be an eclectically assembled, awkwardly located family camping trip in downtown Madison. There’s still lots of camping left to do, so let’s hope the eggs being tossed from high-rise condos on the square continue to miss the friendly protest."

Not everybody is a gifted comic genius who can sit on high writing about culture with gorgeous sarcasm and make lots of money. In fact, some people are have such minimal intellectual skill that they must be teachers who demand luxurious benefit packages at taxpayer expense.

The camp with a difference. Never mind the weather. When you come to Madison, The holiday's forever.

"An officer tried to gain access to the building but wasn't able to since the building had electronically-locked doors"

Shhh, a crooks' secret.

Or the cop has union sympathies but also a union work ethic.

Gee, at "first night" I thought the first things tossed would be Nerf balls.

Eggs, on the other hand, are best thrown before daylight.

Just shows ya ... when you camp out ... and you're in the woods ... it's the birds flying overhead, doing target practice.

Maybe, Madison needs a flock of pigeons. Then, I'd suggest tossing sunflower seeds.

I especially love how the cops couldn't gain entrance. They didn't have electronic passes.

As to the protesters, what they need are good umbrellas.

LOL. Probably this.

Though I can imagine he also could use a little discretion. It isn't going to be easy to solve this little caper by canvassing the building, and there's better things for the cop to do. Even eating donuts is a better use of time.

The protestors want to speak, and they got favoritism from the local government because of their POV. The people have a right to speak back, and the egg might cross the line a little, but I think it's somewhat justified.

This pattern of trying to screw up the function of government is not much of a protest anyway. From the first moment of qourum busting, I think eggs should have rained down on these creeps.

Madison has high-rise condos?

What are they protesting now?

So, it's just an eclectic family camping trip.

So, this must be an eclectic post-Sunday drive

Madison -- "Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold led a crowd of hundreds of marchers, taxi cabs and an antique fire engine around the Capitol Square in a demonstration Monday.

In the heat, the pro-union demonstrators -- perhaps as many as 1,000 in all -- marched in opposition to Gov. Scott Walker's budget policies that would end most collective bargaining for public workers and cut aid to schools and local governments.

Meanwhile a few tents were left up near the square in a "Walkerville" protest area meant to invoke the Depression-era protests against then President Herbert Hoover."

Took my sis out to lunch, surprised to see a big rally today. Must have been a cop/firefighter event. Steelworkers out in force again.

Can't imagine why they'd be ticked about this...

Madison has high-rise condos?

If you define it as four or more floors, then yes. Some in the 10-15 floor range.

Hey, I've got a good arm. Are any of those condos for rent?

A lot of democrats live in those high rise condos so I would suspect democrats as much as republicans---I bet even the democrats in that building are unhappy to have protesters camping outside their door. In fact, the democrats would probably do it knowing that everyone would assume that it was a republican.

Threefold: protect the flanks, scout the countryside, screen the enemy.

What is the goal of the protest?

Probably the same as the Tea Party protests. Remember all the Town Hells?

"Probably the same as the Tea Party protests."

The goal of Walkerville is to cut government spending? Who knew?!? Maybe the Walkerville residents are secretly rebating the state for their housing assistance checks....

Freeman, I think it has something to do with protesting the high price of the State Parks pass ($25/annual) and that the first-come-first-served parks registration system doesn't give priority to union members (especially teachers and professors who have ONLY 90 or so days a summer to vacation).

The Tea Party doesn't care about government spending, just where it's spent.

Garage -- That's simply not true. Tea Partiers want a balanced budget first and foremost. This is the Ross Perot segment of American politics -- exactly the same almost.

Come on, man. You are better than that.

The United Council of UW Students is hosting a "Die-In" on Wednesday in protest of Walker. Everyone will be dressed as zombies. If you guys are in the area on Wednesday, you might get some crazy photos. Here is a link to their facebook page:

Students are as good as dead to legislators
