"Can we please accept he was just texting while male?"

Sullivan on Weiner.

Andy's normal is not very normal, is it?

Anthony Weiner is psychotic. What's called a "highly functioning schizophrenic." You want him to appear normal? As if all he has is a neurosis?

Lots of men pull on their ding-dongs. But not too many stand in front of a mirror to get their jollies. Geez.

Weiner won't change, ahead.

Will he leave congress?

Well, nothing he says can be said with "certitude."

Behind the screen Nancy Pelosi is finding jobs for all his staff in other offices.

What does this mean?

It means you're screwed.

Even if a new act shows up, it's still the old actors. And, the old playwrights.

If Hollywood had an financial sense, they'd be trying to bag the TRUE RENDITION of PAUL REVERE's RIDE! (Palin told it.) You'd be amazed at how well the church bells would sound ... to an audience watching the story play out.

Don't expect Hollywood to understand this. It's not part of the elite's "historical" memes.

King Barack has spoken. Weiner's finally on his own. The Eunuch Gambit is his only hope.

A. What the Hell does Sullivan know about being male?

B. Hey, Andy, how about a little mea culpa to the woman you've spent the last three years sliming because you can't tell which party you're for?

Sullivan on Weiner.

Whatever prevents him from spending the equivalent amount of time obsessing over Sarah Palin's vagina...

Texting while male?

A text isn't even what we'd call a "miss-tell" in MMORPG land. Maybe it has to do with being too cool for silly computer games that people don't have the experience to know that whatever you write in private might, at any moment, go to guild chat.

;-)

cc: all

?

No one has ever done that accidentally so that they know not to be stupid?

Tyrone Slothrop said...

I guess that's better than blogging while crazy.

I've taken Sullivan's advice and replaced my standard e-mail signature with an attachment of a picture of my penis. If anyone wants proof, write me!

The NYT did a piece on how women pols were different.

ja, duh

women are attracted to power

men are attracted to beauty

Male politicans are attractive to women and at some level increasingly so as they age and gain power

Women pols tend to be older, not attractive to men, and dont gain attractiveness as they age.

e.g. men have more oportunities to get into trouble

e.g. being a pol while male....

While its normal for Sully to frolic amongst the dunes of P-town with his dick hanging out, the rest of us can perhaps not be so accepting of Weiner's cocksmanship. I know this might strike Sully as pedestrian, but thats the way it is...

d-day said...

How dare he? This, from the man who refuses to even try to understand governing while female.

Sal said...

Most 46 year-olds aren't like that (though maybe Sullivan is). Here's a link to more the Weiner's arrogant douchebaggery.

Oh, not WoW! EQ, EQ2, a little bit of LOTROL, little bit of Aion, and now playing Rift a bit. ;-)

Miss-tell to guild chat is universal.

Rialby said...

Let's see if I can get this straight (no pun intended). The Left wants us to believe that they believe in marriage equality for all but yet they don't even condemn people for STRAYING FROM THEIR VOWS.

AND then along comes Sully who wants this "right" above all else in this world. He waves away what he should clearly be condemning as - well, he's just a guy. Umm, so what about the two guys in a gay marriage - is this acceptable behavior for both? either?

d-day said...

Synova, you must be pretty secure in your gaming self to admit to all that. EQ/EQ2/LOTR = Way lamer than WoW.

Beldar said...

Why do you bother to read Andrew Sullivan, Professor Althouse?

Don't you regret the higher energy bill from having to take an extra-long, extra-hot shower afterwards?

Anonymous said...

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease."

Sullivan's pathetic plea comes a little late, now that Barack Obama himself, leader of the Democrat Party, is telling Anthony Weiner he needs to resign.

Barack Obama: “I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign. When you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can't serve as effectively as you need to, at the time when people are worrying about jobs, and their mortgages, and paying the bills — then you should probably step back" Obama telegraphed to Weiner through NBC's Ann Curry.

The complete bus-throwing-under interview will air tomorrow on the NBC Today show.

Rialby said...

Meaning - if the Left wants the rest of to believe that they really want gay marriage for the sake of marriage and not to further devalue marriage, they should be the ones screaming loudest for Weiner's head. But they don't. Is that because they don't really believe in the traditional view of marriage? 'Splain.

"Why do you bother to read Andrew Sullivan, Professor Althouse?"

Because it's so fucking hilarious watching him beg. He's such a bottom.

mariner said...

No. We can't.

Henry said...

Funny, but Sullivan's target for this pathetic pushback is the equally idiotic amateur psychologist Laura Kipness.

If a man humiliates himself so much that Andrew Sullivan must defend him from Laura Kipness maybe he should resign.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

Weiner is a cheater and a liar.

Is Andrew saying all men are cheaters and liars?

rhhardin said...

I think it's not so much a psychoanalytic connection with his name Wiener as with his job as Congressman.

Synova said...

And it's hard to be lamer than WoW. :-P

The example stands, though, no matter how I've embarrassed myself in public by the confession. Always assume that what you do or say in private might become public... because at the worst possible moment, it *will*.

Simple fact of life.

And it's got nothing to do with being male.

Unknown said...

Can we please accept that Andrew Sullivan was blogging while a psychotic, Aids impaired, faux forensic gynecologist?

Time to grow up I think.

Given his own past behavior on the internet my guess is that Mr. Sullivan knows that having done similar things that he needs to excuse Weiner.

You're right though---if you don't do things you're ashamed of, you never have to worry about being busted.

That's part of why I refuse to apologize for anything. No one has standards anymore, the only thing they can get you on is violating your own.

Andrew Sullivan thinks all men are obsessed with dick like he is.

One of my best teachers ever was a nun. She had served many years in Bolivia and Peru and had great stories about the Altiplano, the jungles, the Incan ruins, and the folks there making beer by chewing corn and spitting in in jars to ferment (mmmm yummy!) and of chewing coca leaves to work harder.

She said the difference between a man and boy is: a boy says everything that is on his mind; a man can think it, but can selectively control what he says.

Sullivan and Weiner are not men when it comes to sexuality. They are boys.

d-day said...

Seriously people with the LOTR? I played it a bit, and it seemed fine, but I am given to understand that the game play is very basic and derivative. Is it just a change of pace or am I missing something?

/still got the disk laying around somewhere

That terse comment, given the commentator, begs so many questions....

but its time to move beyond our Wienermania talk about real important stuff, like

pure speculation regarding the 2012 presidential election.

Synova said...

d-day, the original package for EverQuest said, "Only get this for a loved one if you never want to see them again." And they weren't lying.

The newer games don't have quite the same dynamic, unless you're a a hard-core raiding sort of person. It's not that hard to get to a safe place and turn it off.

The only reason I ever started to play, though, was because my husband's solution to my figuring I needed him more than his group did in EQ, was to get multiple accounts and more internet connections so we could play together.

Conserve Liberty said...

Weiner defenders like Sullivan are trying to manage the narrative. It wasn't the dick pix as much as the aggressive denials that did him in.

He must be crazy to have thought he could deny his way through it.

Some might have forgiven him had he 'fessed up and taken a leave-of-absence day one. At worst it would have blown over and he'd have been back before Labor Day.

Once again, I say, behave as a gentleman and these things won't happen to you.

The psychoanalyst is on to something. In Kafka's famous story, The Metamorphosis, a young man, despised by all, wakes up one day to find that he has metamorphised into a cockroach. Philip Roth did a variation of this in his novella, The Breast. Anthony Weiner, very much a Philip Roth character, is about halfway through his transformation. It's not just his name and prickly personality. Check out the bantam cock walk, the receding forehead and clenched jaws. The man is evolving into a total dick. I think that if he shaved his head and pulled a rubber glove over his skull, like Howie Mandel used to do, the resemblance would be striking. Many here laugh at Weiner, but if your name were Dickwad or Prickface, do you really think that you would behave better. We should judge Anthony not by the standards of Congress members but by the standards of Weiners.

You know what's surprising?

Hillary has private detective files on EVERYBODY! If not actual ones from the FBI.

Why didn't she sit down with Huma, before the wedding, and try to prevent her from marrying this fool?

The easy answer is that Hillary was so desperate for Chelsea to marry ... she didn't stop and think her daughter was marrying a guy who hardly spent a day sober.

By the way, if Huma's pregnant, than, so, too, is Hillary's child.

As to Weiner, he'll be remembered the same way we still remember Nixon saying he wasn't a crook.

Or trying to think of Bill Clinton, without Monica's description of the mole. And, how it bent left.

Well, weiner's does, too.

Can you imagine other House members watching weiner posing in front of the mirror with only a towel in front. And, his flagpole giving a salute? Do jocks who pass say "hi?"

I think everybody in DC knew weiner was a creep. When Huma married him, lots of people just shrugged ... knowing Huma was Hillary's "intern."

If this story gets plotted out ... Obama HATES Hillary!

What do you expect when there's "no love lost?"

Steve M. Galbraith said...

Sullivan has been pretty open about being a sexual libertine. He's not been reluctant to talk about that aspect of his life.

As such, it's pretty easy to see how he thinks l'affaire Weiner isn't that big of a deal.

But we know it's much much more than just sex or sexting. Apparently, he can't see that.

It's all sex to him.

You thought it was a closed case. But you were wrong.

There is an ongoing criminal investigation of Anthony Weiner.

He is not receiving "treatment" of any kind and has not sought any.

He is still in New York staying at another politician's house.

Andrew Sullivan mingles in a world that produces little to nothing of value. One time a gay friend of mine invited me to spend Thanksgiving with his partner and friends. I thought a *few* women would be present, he had a few women friends, afterall. But no, I was the only one. So there we were eating turkey and drinking wine, when someone recounts how his friend Bob who once was a priest says that the best most intense sex he ever had while a priest was with the boys in some island nation, I think Fiji. I felt like I was witnessing a crime. Do such people actually exist? I thought. I have yet to be convinced that the gay male sex milieu in DC has anything to offer.

Men without women.

There's just something about the quality of men in this town, every which way you turn that is lacking. Mostly I'm talking about the transplants in NW, of course - and maybe Cap Hill.

HT said...

Sublime, he used the word sublime. This was about 1994 or so.

TTBurnett said...

HT- That was just about the most wrenching, thought-provoking comment I've ever seen in this place.

Thank you.

TTBurnett said...

I think after that, I'm going to have to dump the grinning avatar.

Freeman Hunt said...

Sullivan makes a self-revelatory comment.

HT said...

I'm sorry Tim. I was young and impressionable and I'll never ever get over how it was socially acceptable to talk about sublime sexual experiences with boys in exotic countries. I'll just never get over it, and it's just so ... DC in so very many ways.

TTBurnett said...

HT - What you say helps explain why my wife, despite her international law degree from Fletcher and a promising career, fled the place after a couple of years and never looked back.

As did many of her friends. They, too, were young and impressionable.

d-day said...

Syn - Mine had the same idea. I didn't care for raiding though, so we dropped the MMO aspect when we play.

When Diablo3 comes out I think that may be it for us though. :)

"Texting while male?"

No, what Anthony Weiner was doing was classic exhibitionism - garden variety perverted flashing. High tech flashing, but flashing just the same.

He sent Gennette Cordova a "blind link" to a photograph of his erect penis. The link did not indicate what she would see when she clicked it and according to both Weiner and Cordova, she did nothing to precipitate the sending of this link. He just showed it.

In forensic psychiatry, those sorts of actions are called Exhibitionism. It is a mental illness for which there is a cure.

"Although some exhibitionists present themselves for treatment, the majority do not receive treatment until after arrest, where treatment has been recommended as part of the process. Treatment is similar to that of other paraphilias: Cognitive behavioural therapy may help some individuals. Others may be helped by sex-drive reducing medications either in the form of SSRI's. Extreme cases may be considered for hormonal sex drive reducing medications."

Medicinal castration. Works every time.

Anthony Weiner isn't just texting people. He is mentally ill. He should be committed, involuntarily if necessary, so that he can get the mental health treatment everyone is entitled to since Democrats now force us to purchase insurance.

I would love for you to expand on that. I think this is a subject a longer essay. It's true that when you think of the sort of men who make excellent role models, you don't think of politicians. (Or is that just me?) We admire the man who puts in an honest day's work (especially if he's not stuck behind a desk), provides for his family, perhaps works the land in some fashion, . . . the stereotypical manly man, . . . but who thinks of preening DC politicians shouting on the floor of the House?

Scott M said...

Der Weinerr supporters/apologists (including NOW) according to some of their online comments.

Drew said...

Granted there will always been damaged women who flock to sociopaths like Der Weiner. But what about normal women? What could someone like Weiner offer them?

As a symbol of left-wing hyper-partisanship, Weiner is (was?) almost a sort of religious figure, and inspired the kind of devotion one associates with David Koresh. These women apparently lusted for him for his politics, and little else.

But as a man . . . what positive traits does he have to offer?

paul a'barge said...

Sullivan: "Can't we just accept ..."

Yeah. We'll accept that. Right after we accept all the other Libtard qualities, such as your venal, vile and despicable fascination with Sarah Palin and her son Trigg. And all the other contemptible things you're associated with.

Hon, I could write a book.

But let me just correct a common perception or misperception about DC. The majority of people I have known and worked with here have not been politicians per se. A small minority (tiny) have been diplomats. Others working in international finance (now - they're not the baddies), others in journalism, associations, nonprofits, PR, etc and so on. And yeah, a few in politics (the Hill).

I would love to expand on it, but I'm working again now, and don't find myself with the time like I used to, but we'll see.

Also, I have nothing against desk work at all. I had a boss who I really admire, from the midwest as it turned out, who was a good family man and a good office worker (manager), and who came from a long line of office workers. But point taken, when there's no other industry besides government (and there actually is, I exaggerate a bit), then yeah, things get a bit warped or not warped, but the opposite

stale (no culture)

For me the main problem is that most people (especially in NW) don't have their extended families around. So much dysfunction stems from that.
