I've been a penguin fanatic ever since the teacher read Mr. Popper's Penguins back in second grade. (The movie is out June 17, by the way. Looks like they pretty much rewrote the story from scratch; but it still has penguins!) So any news story with penguins is a good news story in my opinion. They make such a perfect Ugly Duckling metaphor, but real: they're clumsy and awkward on land; but get them in their element in the water, and they're graceful and fast.

Aerial shots reveal things you would have a hard time seeing on the ground.
I remember visiting the penguin colonies of south Georgia with my family as a kid. We would stop by Valdosta for ice cream on the way home.
Penguins are racist.
I love the last photo of a male penguin protecting the female from another male..."Back off Bud!"
And every one of those penguin hens(?) expects the father to stand there like a lox until the egg drops.

Yeah, but from a plane you wouldn't get to experience all the odor and ordure that a mass that large of fish eating fowl makes.
Speaking of ordure, I think South Georgia Island would make a wonderful home for the United Nations...
Best Weiner defence yet.
Now says stolen NASA aerial pics were manipulated to look like his wiener and released on the wild wild web ;)

Interesting, Martin. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder yet again. I find them to be an elegant lot.
