What's sucked out through liposuction..

... returns, but in a different place.

Women, hating their thighs, hips, and lower abdomen, submit to violent suctioning, and then the fat comes back, but not in the classic female storage areas. The fat comes back — "redistributed upstairs" — to their upper abdomen, arms, and shoulders.

Do you obsess over part of your body to the extent that if you could fix that, you wouldn't worry about effects in other parts that you haven't been obsessing over?

I decided that if I was going to finish my half ironman later this year I'd have to lose weight. A lot of weight.

So I started eating less every day and exercising a bit more. I'm down almost 30 lbs, and would like to lose another 15-20.

Whatever is left is left.

I don't get surgery over something tht makes you a stronger person.

So basically, in the breast area. Yeah, I can see how that might not put women off.

Yes, Jason.

Because women know that fat upper arms look just like big boobs.

Yikes. At the same volume? I'm having trouble imagining shoulders and upper arms with the same volumes of fat as people's hips and thighs.

Many people choose liposuction for final shaping after working hard in the gym to get the pounds off. Since weight loss occurs all over the body, trying to burn off the weight in the pockets of the body where fat collects normally means you end up looking like an anorexic everywhere else. Some people do try to use liposuction as a quick weight loss method – it certainly is not that effective (since you really cant suck that much tissue out) and it is painful. (Yeah, I did it on my love handles).

But for what I wanted – it worked.

Almost all women today obsess over a particular part of their bodies, and tragically, what they do about it makes them look like prepubescent little girls rather than they adults they are. God damn it.

Does anybody know if a person can take fat off of the stomach area and transplant it to the groin area? Not that I would want to do that, but I was just wondering.

If we're going to pretend that's true, then I'll give a perfectly rational evolutionary reason. We are born to give birth, and our bodies crave the associated pain and recovery.

The truth is that if cosmetic surgeons had to (hypothetically) rely on a purely male patient stream there wouldn't be any plastic surgeons in short order.

cosmetic not plastic

What ironrails said.

This goes back to the "fashion" designers who can't relate to women who don't look like boys and the feminists who hate themselves for being women, as opposed to womyn.

Things seem to be changing, but Ann is right. A lot of damage has been done.

WV "ablater" When you decide exercising your stomach muscles can wait.

There are reasons that the body "protects" its fat. 35 years ago, or so, the medical profession decided that pregnant women should be much more careful about putting on extra poundage over and above the basic weight of the baby and related tissues -- a calculation which formed the basis of their recommendations. I suspect that a certain culture of thin (See: Twiggy) played a part in generating that idea.

Women started giving birth to underweight babies. They built up extra fat (on their backs in particular, not just their breasts!) first at the expense of the baby itself. Natural survivability apparently depends less on the baby's condition at birth than on the mother's capacity to nurse it through the first three months, even if she runs out of food for herself. Doctors ended up adding 15 pounds to the earlier bare bones recommendation, so to speak.

Real obesity may pose serious problems, but the rest of us are not just fighting fat, we're fighting evolution. Folks with fast metabolisms used to be the first to die.

Where would the fat go after a second lipo on the upper body?

Freeman,

I read somewhere that fat distribution in the human body is partially a function testosterone levels. Most women (and some men) get the 'pear-shaped' look of lower body fat because of low levels of testosterone.

Most men and some women (Roseanne Barr) have the 'apple-shaped' look of upper body fat with skinny hips and legs because of higher testosterone levels.

On the 3rd hand, some people seem to gain fat evenly over most of their bodies. A chinese friend of mine, who is very feminine in shape never develops a belly or or thighs when she gains weight.

According to her it's like her whole body gets softer and fuller and vice versa. I have no idea what that means.

But she is obsessed with back fat. Once we were eating birthday cake at an office party and we both went for seconds. We exchanged smirks over each other's weakness for cake and as she lifted a fork to her mouth, I told her, "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the back!"

She tried to stab me with the fork.

LIPOSUCTION AND PENIS FAT INJECTION TECHNIQUE

Since 1991, surgeons have performed liposuction and fat injection into the penis. While this can temporarily widen the penis, in the long run, I find this procedure unpredictable. It often results in penis irregularity and sometimes penis deformity. The augmentation always decreases with time. During an erection the injected fat will be softer than engorged tissue that hardens the penis.

We decided my step-mother has Munchausen's syndrome. Nothing like the prospect of an operation to have the world revolve around her. So I've been dog-sitting since Christmas.

She also ruined her colon with prescription meds (mostly painkillers which cause constipation), got down to skin, bone, and implants, and then went on prednisone, which bloated her face and upper body. She looks like a freak.

Liposuction can be performed on any area of the body and is very effective as when the fat cells are removed, the fat will not deposit in this area again.
