Althouse Hillbillies' wives are the worst. They just nag and nag trying to roust their husbands from Ann's porch. But these slobs are content to get the little red meat that she tosses out every day or so.

Some people are borned to be played.

Imagine if a man was trying to tell his wife what she could read or listen to.

Imagine the outrage.

In any case, it's just weird to me that people don't just skip the arguments they aren't interested in having. I don't think I read or commented on that post since I find the argument over who Althouse should have voted for excessively boring. McCain was a lousy candidate.

I'm Full of Soup said...

I actually read the coments in reverse order from last to the middle. Apparently Meade pissed a lot of people off when he said he may vote for Obama because Obama finally did one thing he campaigned on!

Let's be clear about Obama - he did not lie in his campaign but he was just about 100% wrong on the positions he took during the campaign [ie. close Gitmo, etc]. THINK ABOUT THAT - HE WAS ALMOST 100% WRONG. THAT IS HARD TO DO - ASK ANY GAMBLER.

And that , to me, is the problem with Obama - he lacks good experience and lacks good instincts about how things work and how things should be fixed.

I don't care who Meadhouse votes for and am just pointing out what they can't see.

And Jay Retread is the other half of the set.

I don't understand leaving a blog because of disagreement with the hostess.

Jay assumes that anyone who stays agrees with the hostess.

It's the application of the exact same principle. And it is simplistic and stupid.

"Imagine if a man was trying to tell his wife what she could read or listen to."

Why only imagine it? Men, give it a try: Dominate your wife. Tell her what to read, what to listen to... what you're going to do with her and how you will have your way with her. Think about it - you just might be surprised at how much she longs to have you do the thinking for the two of you.

Once written, twice... said...

Ann, hillbilly rebellion!

(Meade, be careful or Ann will kick you back to the porch.)

Aridog said...

Oh, well, time for a "hillbilly" (WTF?) and infrequent commenter to tell why he reads this blog.

I find it fascinating that it has divergent viewpoints posted. Even mine. "Lawdy," to keep the "hillbilly" meme, recently it was suggested I was "race bating" ... something that anyone who knows me knows is highly unlikely.

No problem, maybe I sounded like I was. You can learn things if you listen.

I find it comforting that the hostess does not seem trapped in singular dogma.

I enjoy the comments although I probably disagree with part or all of a fair number of them. On the other hand I find myself learning something from many commenters I'd not have guessed could teach me anything. Like I said, I may be stubborn, but not deaf ... listening may be my only virtue?

Or maybe I'm just transferring my affection for my better half to Ann because she reminds me of my own ... one rather independent minded woman if there ever was one ... and one I can find no cause for criticism ... after 30+ years.

DADvocate said...

I don't have a wife, so when I quit reading it'll be of my own volition or death.

In the comments of the referred post, Meade said "National security was the overwhelmingly most important issue in 2004 and 2008." According to this CNN poll on Nov. 1, 2008, the economy was the most important issue for 57% of respondents. No other issue got more than 13% for most important.

It's a common mistake to think that others see and believe things the same as one's self. Better to find out that's actually true rather than assume it is.

Also, if it's about national security/feeling safer, Obama failed there in killing UBL. six in 10 Americans said that killing Bin Laden was likely to increase the threat of terrorism against the United States in the short term. A large majority also said that the Qaeda leader’s death did not make them feel any safer.

Although fully employed at above the national average income, I know my concerns have been much greater concerning the economy and personal freedom than national security or terrorism.

Trooper York, you are my favorite Althouse Hillbilly.

(Actually not. You are sort of boring.)

Pastafarian said...

This would be the "How Althouse lost me" post, per Palladian.

And I must admit: It was pretty hard to take. After Althouse made her first few defenses of her vote, after Obama won, I was won over to her argument, to a certain very limited extent: Making the liberals own their inevitably disastrous liberal policies, rather than allowing liberal McCain to taint the Republicans with the stench of failure, does make sense.

Just so long as those liberal policies aren't too disastrous.

So when it looked like Obama wasn't going to be able to launch any of his economy-killing torpedoes (cap-and-tax, card check, Obamacare) I thought she was probably right -- she'd made a shrewd choice.

But then Obamacare passed. And we will never, ever be rid of elements of it; and this, coupled with spendulus 1, spendulus 2, and "qualitative easing" will end up breaking us. And he still might find a way to back-door cap-and-tax and card check without even passing them, without any of the negative political fallout from expending political capital.

Spending is to the point now that it can no longer be controlled -- Old Charlie stole the handle, and the train, it won't stop going, no way to slow down. (Insert wailing flute solo here.) Soon just the interest on the debt will exceed revenue.

So triumphalism on the part of Althouse, coupled with the apparent loss of the usually solid Meade, in what appears to be preparation for the "How Obama won me over for a second term" post -- it's just about more than I could take.

The comments on this blog, I thought, were a conversation; and it seems as though it's been a one-way conversation all this time. When you put up that "How Obama won me in 2012" post up, scratch one Althouse hillbilly.

And of course Ann is going to vote for Obama. Do you really think she is going to support hillbilly Palin/Trump/Bachman/Daniels, etc., etc.? I don't think so!

If you want to focus criticism focus it on the Professor not engaging in other money making ventures that are obvious to you. This reminds me, I made this prediction on July 21, 2009 in the Althouse comment section

"Here is my prediction. Althouse spends the next three years dropping hints about how she is disenchanted with president Obama so that she can keep the adulation of all of her right wing posters (I would guess at most a dozen people) that she so weirdly craves and then announces right before the election that she will vote again for President Obama but with reservations."

Are you kidding me? Are you so full of yourself that you could possibly believe that it is because of jealousy? Good Lord, get a grip. You aren't all that, you know.

Ever think that it may be because your ideas and opinions are just so much horse shit? Instead of endlessly trying to justify your decision to vote for a feckless fool, you should be apologizing to this country for that vote. The SOB has spent the last 2 years trying to "fundamentally transform America", and not in any way has that been a good thing.

Now, with one decision, that any president in office would have made, you think that justifies voting for him, again, because it in some way proves he's got foreign policy chops? Are you for real? Is Meade for real? Both of you are delusional, if that's what you believe. Both of you would be extremely easy marks for any half-ass con artist.

Evidently, it doesn't take critical thinking skills to be a law professor, and it seems living with one removes any you may have had.

Synova said...

And Stephanie is why I don't read these threads, normally, and didn't read the original one. WTF?

Do people really get that uncomfortable by being in disagreement with someone else? Hell, maybe everyone is looking for a Fearless Leader after all. It would explain why they get all snitty about someone having feet of clay.

The point of the feet-of-clay fable isn't the failure of the monument, but the folly of *having* one.

Also, ad hominem isn't name calling, it's attacking the person. It's every time someone brings up what Althouse supposedly makes or what she does in her job, which applies to nothing but is an attempt to attack the person rather than respond to an argument. It's repulsive.

Also, if someone wants to talk about economics, David Friedman has a blog. Look it up.
