I mentioned this in a previous thread but I think it bears repeating.
There was a Gallulp/USA Today poll the results of which were released today. And in it only 38% of Americans said they believe that Barack Obama was definitely born in the United States.
That's an amazing number - and it means something. Lots of Democrats had to have said they too don't believe Obama was definitely born here.
If Americans wanted this guy to hang around, they wouldn't be openly questioning his citizenship.
Americans, even Democrats, are itching to fire this guy.
He's fucking toast (unless unemployment drops back to 5% like it was under Bush and gas drops back to $2.50.)
That's not Progressivism, that's the heart of Conservatism: I've got mine, Jack.
The myth that's been sold, of course is that it is theirs, and not something dependent upon the financial stability of the government. Which was a great myth while the government wasn't acting like an ADHD teenager out on the town with his best 50 friends and a stolen credit card.
As I said, the head of Progressivism is dead. The last neural twinges are going into improving it's short game.
I'd like to believe Obama is "toast" as Ut said above - we need a dramatically new direction which won't requires a change of President, not just congress.
But Obama will be re-elected if the Republican opponent isn't able to run on a distinctly opposite record/plan - i.e. people believe that they truly stand for and will deliver fiscal sanity. I'm not sure Huckabee (big government, social conservative) or Romney (obamacare before obamacare existed) can deliver.
Whenever I argue with you, in any of your manifestations, it always reaches the point where you misquote and mischaracterize what I've said.
No. Seniors defending the checks and benefits they get from the government display a naturally-conservative instinct which is, I've done what I had to do to earn this, this is mine, do not take what is mine.
That doesn't make the programs themselves Conservative enterprises; but investors (and SS has always been pitched as an investment, and it has always been a lie) expect to see the returns they have been promised, whether their participation was willing or not (especially if not, I'd guess. That's for my next career as a social psychologist.)
China wants to cut it's holdings of U.S. debt by two-thirds. The value of Treasuries is about to tank. Do you know what the vast majority of the assets backing SSI are? Treasuries.
"Do you know what the vast majority of the assets backing SSI are?"
It's not Treasuries.
It's votes.
Conservatives did not WILLINGLY pay into Social Security or Medicaid. So, seeing as how they were FORCED into both programs, it's only right and fitting and a conservative principle that they be given what they were told they would be given when FORCED into the programs.
These conservatives didn't WANT these programs, but since they were FORCED into them and their MONEY TAKEN FROM THEM, then by fucking God we're going to get our Social Security benefits and we're going to get our Medicaid and if anybody don't like it they can stop sending billions overseas every year FIRST. More money is pissed away every year by our government every year than the cost of SS and Medicaid combined.
That's a conservative position and it is also the morally RIGHT position.
So is this what more than half the electorate really wants for the US?
High unemployment (except Washington), dead housing market (except Washington), more people on foodstamps and homeless, taxes increasing, precarious national debt, the dollar collapsing, inflation, $5 gas, crony "capitalism", Govt. Motors, etc.?
Race? Good Lord woman, can you find no other commonality? Perhaps someone has spent too much time in the De facto segregated State of Wisconsin. In the rest of the country, race is the least of our concerns.
Jindal is not a natural born Citizen. His parents were not citizens when Bobby was born in Louisiana. Rubio's parents probably were, but that needs to be verufied. Rush is an idiot.
I think the racial angle is nonsense, but if you want to play that game, then West is the clear choice to crush Obama. Any Republican will have plenty of material to work with to cite the damage Obama has done to our nation. West will be able to pull it off best, because he is black, too. It will be hard (for people with a conscience) to say one is more authentically black than the other, but the MSM would certainly trot that horse out for a lap or two.
West would come across as a fatherly figure, while Obama would continue to exude the nerdy, annoying brother figure. West is Cliff Huxtable and James Evans (Good Times), while Obama is Steve Urkel.
West has credibility, while Obama has left America with a pocketful of broken promises and a trail of economic and foreign policy carnage. West would crush Obama.
Scott said... "They could never prove that President Chester Arthur was born in the United States, either."
Chester Arthur was born in Vt. but just like Obama, hiding in plain sight was the fact that his father was not a US Citizen when CA was born. It was unknown to the public, and Arthur lied about his date of birth, and burned all family records. It was only recently found, by Leo Donofrio's researchers, that CA's father was not a US Citizen until CA was 13. Fraud is not precedent, but Chester Arthur was the first Usurper. Obama is the second (borb British to a British Subject father).
traditionalguy said... "Mick...But is Rush a natural born idiot? That is all that matters here."
Anyone who lives inside the Political Party box is being used by those parties. Rush is not speaking from the vantage of the Constitution, only the R party, or "team". That is why G. Washington warned against political parties. The D/Rs are 2 sides of the same coin, designed to divide and conquer. They care little about the rule of law.
Who would have been better than McCain, mittens? Huckster? Paul? Rudy? Thompson? Tancredo? Brownback? Hunter?
A randomly selected member of the Republican Party.
Honestly, though, no Republican was going to win in 2008. It had been too long since we had a united Democratic government, and voters needed a reminder that, yes, things COULD be worse than they were under Republican leadership.
" Who would have been better than McCain, mittens? Huckster? Paul? Rudy? Thompson? Tancredo? Brownback? Hunter? "
Romney, Rudy, Thompson, Hunter.
Hindsight being 20:20, Romney especially.
"Not to worry as whoever wins the Republican nomination, Limbaugh will be their #1 water carrier ..."
You make more sense if I assume you're three years old, which you must be if you didn't notice Rush is not Mccain's water carrier.
It's going to be a difficult election in 2012 because losers will fight to keep their claws at the throats of America's kids and grandkids. Greedy losers want their entitlements, and will pretend they don't really understand the debt that leaves behind.
That's the great struggle of our age, which is depressing. For this reason, Romney is one of the worst men to be nominated. We need someone with a focus on cutting the debt we leave behind, like unnaturally selfish bastards.
Amusingly enough, Obama may be so bad that Palin actually has a chance, which I never would have guessed even 6 months ago. I'm still hoping for someone with much more experience, but we'll see what happens. The desperate howls of angry trolls will probably be great no matter who the GOP nominates, because that person will be better than Obama.
FH, if Thompson could not survive a very weak Rep field, how could he measure up against Obama. McCain was a war hero, whereas Thompson was an actor, attorney, lobbyist, columnist, and radio host.
That was thanks to our outrageously biased media in 2008. The media that constantly covered Huckabee and McCain to the exclusion of everyone else. The media that created the absurd narrative that Thompson was lazy while he was out explaining his positions and publishing op-ed pieces everyday.
He would have trounced Obama in debates and made an excellent candidate in the general election, so they ignored him entirely.
And are you casting aspersions on Reagan's acting ability? Doing that would indicate that one values personal politics above merit when it comes to art.
That was thanks to our outrageously biased media in 2008.
Again, when are conservatives gonna stop whining about 2008 and imagined MSM bias? ~ rhetorical question.
The media didn't have to create a faux narrative 'cause Thompson was indeed, lazy.
>
Art notwithstanding, Reagan was a Dem when he did "Bonzo" ie part of his appeal as he used to be president of that den of iniquity, S.A.G. :-P
>
But getting back on-topic, it is interesting how Limbaugh totally dictates to the Rep party, something Reagan would have never accepted ie kowtow to the ad nauseam blowhard.
There's a definite void of conservative leadership which is why Limbaugh was the titular head of the Rep party after the 2008 election. And why Trump is makin' such a splash now. Embarassing the Rep party even more than one could have possibly imagined.
West, Jindal, Rubio, Christie, Pawlenty, Daniels, Trump, mama grizzly, bachmann, mittens etc. ~ again, how did Obama get sooo damn lucky!
No. More. Bushes. Ever. That name will always be remembered in history as a synonym for "half-measure." Bush Senior may have been better than Dukakis, but he let the Saddam regime continue to exist, and signed what was at the time the largest tax hike in history - for that they names a toll road after him. Bush Junior was better than Gore and Kerry, but he defected to the Dems on spending (although not as much as the Dems would have liked), defected to Vicente4 Fox on American immigration policy, signed the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold Incumbent Protection Act, and greased the skids for Obama's apocalyptic spending by signing TARP.
I don't even want to see Nunn Bush shoes worn at the White House.
But let’s just disengage ourselves from the myth that Ronald Reagan never raised taxes. He did. And here are four big ones. So I hope this will clear the air for some of the groups today.
In 1982, the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act, that rolled back about a third of his ‘81 tax cuts, raised corporate tax rates, and to a lesser extent income tax rates. Raised taxes by almost 1 percent of GDP, which at that time was the largest percentage in peacetime increase ever.
[The] 1982 gas tax increase. [The] 1983 Greenspan commission — we know so well; [fellow commission member Alice Rivlin] remembers — we all … raised payroll taxes for lower and middle income households to higher than they were before Reagan’s ‘81 tax cuts. Then there was the 1984 deficit reduction tax.
Those are the big four. Then there was the Railroad Retirement Revenue Act, Consolidated Omnibus Budget of ‘85… ‘85…’87 Continuing Resolution, Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of ‘87, that was $8.6 billion
So there were a lot of them. Just thought I’d throw that in. ~~~~~
I'd love to see an Allen West/Herman Cain ticket. Even a Paul Ryan/Jindal ticket or a Ryan/Rubio ticket, or frankly any combination thereof. Christie thrown in for flavoring. I'm sick of the GOP establishment. They are weak-spined, snivelers who cow-tow to the leftards constantly because they don't want to look like bad guys.
and signed what was at the time the largest tax hike in history
Reagan Raised Taxes At Least 7 Times, Including the Biggest Corporate Tax Hike Ever
Senator Alan Simpson:
But let’s just disengage ourselves from the myth that Ronald Reagan never raised taxes. He did. And here are four big ones. So I hope this will clear the air for some of the groups today.
In 1982, the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act, that rolled back about a third of his ‘81 tax cuts, raised corporate tax rates, and to a lesser extent income tax rates. Raised taxes by almost 1 percent of GDP, which at that time was the largest percentage in peacetime increase ever.

carry on
The top marginal income tax rate in 1979, 1980 was 70%. During Reagan's tenure as POTUS it dropped like this:
You don't understand context nor do you understand history. He may have raised taxes in other legislation, but he clearly lowered them on income. Even in doing so the economic boom of the 80'a as a function of a lower marginal rate exceeded any tax increases on any other legislation created a windfall of revenue generation into public coffers nationwide. I'm not sure what Simpson was trying to accomplish. You on the other hand are an idiot that accomplished nothing.
Whatever Rush's motives are aside. West appears more capable of facing off against Obama without doing the usual Republican apologizing for not being a democrat. Considering a West-Rubio ticket is not race politics, but it is typical that it would be spun as such. Is considering Thomas Sowell one of the few economists who isn't afraid of freedom necessarily playing race? I suppose because the source was Limbaugh the race issue came to your mind. It is an annoying way to look at the proposal.
Methadras said... "I'd love to see an Allen West/Herman Cain ticket. Even a Paul Ryan/Jindal ticket or a Ryan/Rubio ticket, or frankly any combination thereof. Christie thrown in for flavoring. Jindal is not eligible. His parents were Indian resident aliens, not US Citizens, when Bobby was born. It would be the perfect time for him to be a statesman, and beg off any consideration. He could say that he is not an eligible natural born Citizen, brcause his parents were not US Citizens. Obama's Kryptonite would be exposed, and Obama would be Finished. But alas, doubtful that there is a statesman like that. It would be easy though, since he wouldn't have to even mention Obama. As for Rubio. His parents were in the US for 12 years prior to Marco's birth. Given the preferencial treatment that Cubans receive w/ regard to naturalization, they were probably naturalized prior to Marco's birth, but that needs to be verified. Of course Rush speaks to none of this because he is a Republican Party hack. He is not a patriot, just another traitor.
Classic line from someone who cannot fram a cogent argument against conservative political ideology. You could have called him a racist too, or perhaps upped your game and say "liar, liar pants on fire."
That style of politics only works for the left. If the right nominates a woman, she gets necklaced day and night by the left media. If they nominate a person of color it will be a 24/7 media lynching. Think of what they did to Justice Thomas. The only kind of person who can win for the right is a Reagan style person -- unflappable, Christian, with a massive sense of humor who realizes he's dealing with the empire of evil within our own borders and has a vocabulary of sin that allows for this. Huckabee is the best we have this time out, I think. He might be able to stop the orcs at least for the nonce.
Again, when are conservatives gonna stop whining about 2008 and imagined MSM bias?
If you say something false, for example that Fred Thompson was lazy in 2008, it is natural for someone else to point out how that impression came out. The fact that you would include "imagined" is a matter of your own ignorance or, more likely, your own carefully nurtured blind spot.
Art notwithstanding, Reagan was a Dem when he did "Bonzo" ie part of his appeal as he used to be president of that den of iniquity, S.A.G.
Everyone knows that. It has no bearing on what I wrote.
Actually Freeman, I have a friend who worked with Thompson on the 2008 run. He would watch Fred and Jerri get a list of 10 appearances and watch them whittle it down to 3 all the time. He siad Fred was great on the issues but really did not want the job badly enough to work all damn day for it.
As opposed to his friend McCain who would die for the nomination. Fred had other things that he enjoyed!
Rubio has ethics problems, and they are being papered over by the Right.
West and Jindal are principled people with real records of accomplishment -- something else Rubio lacks.
Rubio's "gravitas" is a media invention: in Tallahassee he behaved like a typical ward grasper, accepting utterly sleazy Michelle Obamaesque set-aside jobs and surrounding himself with unethical political cronies. Many in Florida are sick of this crew, and his chosen closest colleagues were indicted, resigned in scandal, or are currently mired in extremely embarrassing messes. He's playing Tea Partiers for fools, which is shameful, especially considering the taxpayer money he's pocketed for his fake job. Yet in the national arena, mindless babble replaces real scrutiny of his record. Comparing him to West is troubling, actually.
Of course Rush speaks to none of this because he is a Republican Party hack. He is not a patriot, just another traitor.
Let the record show not all of AA's lemmings are dittoheads! :-P
He said Fred was great on the issues but really did not want the job badly enough to work all damn day for it.
Freeman, please don't let me disturb that dream world you live in.
take care
If they nominate a person of color it will be a 24/7 media lynching. Think of what they did to Justice Thomas.
Too funny, the only reason pervert Thomas was nominated and made it through by the skin of his teeth, 52-48 (11) Dems voting yes, was because he was African/American. And of course Dems had no problem w/Condi Rice until the Iraq War disaster!
But like Freeman above, conservatives have become very good at whining since Obama's election.

Sí se puede!
The two worst enablers of POTUS, the press and the Pelosians, are discredited and losing influence.
There is a way-Forward!
Mitch Daniels in blackface! Mitch Daniels in blackface!
I like Rubio but he's a little green.
Jindal comes off as kind of a dork, but hey, it worked for Obama, right?
I'm not feeling it with West yet either.

Ah! So it IS blatant racial politics!
Is there anyone in this country other than a death row inmate that could possibly lose to Obama?
I'm surprised he didn't include Palin, then he would have covered gender politics as well.
Maybe I'll delete that.
(because Limbaugh might have great reasons for wanting them to run that have nothing to do with race)
Hope and change!
Not to worry as whoever wins the Republican nomination, Limbaugh will be their #1 water carrier ...
But Tives Smiley of PBS says Republicans are racists:

But Obama will be re-elected if the Republican opponent isn't able to run on a distinctly opposite record/plan - i.e. people believe that they truly stand for and will deliver fiscal sanity. I'm not sure Huckabee (big government, social conservative) or Romney (obamacare before obamacare existed) can deliver.
wv: mitein (Romney supporter?)
hmm, Medicare/SS is the heart of conservatism ?!?
Don't tell Limbaugh ...
"They could never prove that President Chester Arthur was born in the United States, either."
And America has never been the same since that Irish bastard snuck in through the back door.
Damn Irish.
He did sign the Chinese Exclusion Act to limit Chinese cheapo labor coming in the country
Which makes him a damn site better Republican than the fucking traitor John McCain ever was.
McCain could have learned a lot from Chester. Maybe enough to get to be President.
If only.
hmm, Medicare/SS is the heart of conservatism ?!?
Treasuries.
Interesting times.
What's the difference between an Irish wake and an Irish wedding?

One less drunk!
My mom's 100% Irish: Brady/Conroy/Harty/O'Halloran ~ her ancestors were from County Clare, whereas Obama's ancestor's were from County Offaly.
Erin Go Bragh!
Since the FUDmeister is so eager for Romney to run, we should all run from Romney.
VOTES is what supports SS and Medicare.
Only part of it is racial politics. They are stunning conservatives. I would vote for any of them.
Trey
Rubio is a conservative Obama at this point, but the other two have resumes. Jindal can never be President - he's just not an alpha.
I'd vote for West even if he was a WASP.
Really?
This is the goddamned Democratic plan?
You were the ones we were waiting for?
You're going to vote for that again?
Shit man; you crazy.
Whenever I argue with you, in any of your manifestations
Don't remember "arguing" w/you before as I've only been here a "glorious" :-P 2/3 mos.
take care
Thompson was the best candidate last cycle. He just did not want to work for the nomination.
Trey
"Thompson was an actor, attorney, lobbyist, columnist, and radio host."
That's five jobs more than Obama ever had, and as an actor Fred at least has experience playing a leader.
Race? Good Lord woman, can you find no other commonality?
Perhaps someone has spent too much time in the De facto segregated State of Wisconsin. In the rest of the country, race is the least of our concerns.
Indeed, Thompson was good in The Hunt For Red October, much like Dutch was good in Bedtime For Bonzo ...
No Presidential thespian can match Obama's performance in "Soul Man".
Mick...But is Rush a natural born idiot? That is all that matters here.
Allen West lives a few blocks from me.

Thompson.
Thompson would still be better than all the alternatives.

Thompson was the best candidate last cycle. He just did not want to work for the nomination.
Smart man.
Just to recap...
Black people are only allowed (by the left) to espouse the liberal dogma, lest they be labelled Uncle Tom (or "house slave" - Harry Belafonte).
However if I support conservatives of any color, and disagree with liberals who happen to be black, I am racist.
Who are the real racists?!!
So Shiloh, you aren't Montana Urban Legend et. al.?
My mistake.
You Axelrod trolls (and aspirants) all look the same after a while.
Blatant racial politics from the right, right?
It's the American way. The misogynist is sticking with Palin.
"
Who would have been better than McCain, mittens? Huckster? Paul? Rudy? Thompson? Tancredo? Brownback? Hunter?
The media's hit job on Teh Fred was masterful. He's still stinging from it, and warned the next batch of candidates to Beware The Media.
Thompson/Palin
Whenever anyone brings up "Bonzo", I think of Binkley weeping to Milo, "Oh, Milo, we should have nominated Fred MacMurray!"
>
>
Jeb Bush--VP
No. More. Bushes.
I don't even want to see Nunn Bush shoes worn at the White House.
and signed what was at the time the largest tax hike in history

Again, when are conservatives gonna stop whining about 2008 and imagined MSM bias? ~ rhetorical question.
Did you really say imagined? You can't be serious.

The top marginal income tax rate in 1979, 1980 was 70%. During Reagan's tenure as POTUS it dropped like this:
Year: 1980, 70%, On income over: 215,400
Year: 1981, 69% 215,400
Year: 1982, 50%, 85,600
Year: 1983, 50%, 109,400
Year: 1984, 50%, 162,400
Year: 1985, 50%, 169,020
Year: 1986, 50%, 175,250
Year: 1987, 38.5%, 90,000
Year: 1988, 28%, 29,750
Sometimes it's just best to say... "Yes"!
Then the next day ask ...
"So what do you suggest?"
And the day after that...
Suggest that everything be put in writing, so as not to "misunderstand".
Blatant racial politics from the right, right?
Why did you even associate race with competent conservative potential candidates?
Or was it what you figured the left would say?
So Shiloh, you aren't Montana Urban Legend et. al.?

Is Montana UL supposed to be C4?

The media didn't have to create a faux narrative 'cause Thompson was indeed, lazy.
More lazy than "just let me eat my waffle"/I vote present o'bama? Hardly.
"No he isn't, but sometimes I think "Ut" might be."
I always assumed 'Ut' was Florida, v2.0.
You could do a pretty good emulation of 'Florida' by taking random sentances of text and inserting 'fucking' in front of each noun.
'Shiloh' is pretty much your standard issue attention-craving heckler.
"Repubs are stoopid! hahaha lolololol" etc.
Jindal? Seriously? I live in Louisiana and voted for Jindal. But he has made a few missteps that could hurt him badly if he goes national.
West? I admire him but think he comes across sometimes as a little abrasive/aggressive.
Rubio? Yes. Speaking of green has way more experience than Obama.
I could be wrong about any of the above three.
"Rush is an idiot."
Classic line from someone who cannot fram a cogent argument against conservative political ideology. You could have called him a racist too, or perhaps upped your game and say "liar, liar pants on fire."
Lightweight.

I still wish he had made the cut though.
Trey

Indeed!
