Who knows if that's the end of the back-and-forth between Prosser and Kloppenburg, but at this point it looks decisive for Prosser.
AND: Nickolaus said:
"I'm thankful that this error was caught early in the process. This is not a case of extra ballots being found. This is human error which I apologize for, which is common," Nickolaus said, her voice wavering as she spoke to reporters. It's interesting to go back and look at Kloppenburg declaring victory yesterday:
"How do you feel comfortable declaring victory when the margin is so thin...?" Ah, yes.
ALSO: On election night, I was watching Waukesha and noted the problem:
UPDATE, 11:35: Concentrating on the AP numbers, looking at which counties still need to report, I'm irritated by the way Waukesha (strong for Prosser) and Dane (strong for Kloppenburg) seem to be holding out, like it's a game of chicken. Right now the candidates are 50-50%, with Prosser up 6,000+. It's been seesawing back and forth, with Kloppenburg up some of the time. To my eye, it looks as though there are more votes left to report in the places that are pro-Prosser, so I think in the end Prosser will squeak by.
UPDATE, 11:43: Dane (Madison's county) is nearly all in. I don't see how Kloppenburg can net more than about 3,000 with what's left of Dane. Waukesha is now shown as completely in, but the numbers didn't change, so I think something may have been misreported. I took the trouble to do a calculation and was going to predict that Prosser would net 40,000 more votes in Waukesha. What happened?

They should still have the full recount. Wisconsin can afford it. Right garage?
A 7,500 vote mistake? Who was doing the counting? Seriously...someone needs to get fired for this, whether it was fraud or incompetence.
Get ready for another round of temper tantrum, hissy fit throwing, whining and property damage from people who probably don't even live in your state.
Elections have consequences, except when you are a Democrat and you lost, then is isn't faaaaiiiiir. (in my best whiny teenage voice.)
Wow. Getting my popcorn.
It's time for the Dhimmirats to shut up and sit down. Time for the adults to make decisions.
"A 7,500 vote mistake? Who was doing the counting? Seriously...someone needs to get fired for this, whether it was fraud or incompetence."
Eh, since it appears to be in the favor of the best person for the job, I'm all for just buying the person who noticed it a beer.
The headline says "Waukesha County flub gives Prosser large lead"
What it SHOULD say is "DISCOVERY of Waukesha County flub gives Prosser large lead".
Interesting that some of the commenters that night on this blog were surprised that Prosser didn't get as much of a bump from Waukesha County as they were expecting to see.
Actually, a 14,000-vote mistake. Trust me, they'll all be lovingly recounted by hand. And who knows what Milwaukee will bring?
I am CELEBRATING tonight! I'm gonna put the liquor store out of business!
It's not a major "counting error" in the way most people would understand it.
That's the lede but they go on to this-which is more succinct:
Nickolaus says the reason for the big change is that data transmitted from the City of Brookfield was imported but that she failed to save those results to the database.
A failure to save the data is not a failure to count the votes.

Apparently the Democratic co-chair is vouching that the numbers are legit.
How delicious. A whole city left out of the count. No magic car trunk needed.
Schweet!
And for Kloppenburg? A bad case of premature electulation, as my brother so cleverly coined it.
"Apparently the Democratic co-chair is vouching that the numbers are legit."
Not much else they can do when there's such a large paper-trail.
Kathy Nicolaus....Kathleen Harris....hmmm if I were a Dumocrat, I'd be suspicious of election officials named Kathy.
DBQ said "Get ready for another round of temper tantrum, hissy fit throwing, whining and property damage from people who probably don't even live in your state."
Perhaps they will chant "This is what Democracy doesn't look like"
BTW: Dave Blaska's prediction for a 50.2 - 49.8 Prosser victory appears prescient.
"And for Kloppenburg? A bad case of premature electulation, as my brother so cleverly coined it."
That's unusual for a woman, too.
Kloppenburg's decision to declare victory yesterday, when the election was a statistical tie, was strategically astute. If and when the result shifted to Prosser, it would appear to her supporters that the Republicans had stolen the election from her.
Updates on my Facebook feed (for example, " Welcome to Lawless Fitzwalkerstan... Florida, 2000 pales by comparison!") illustrate that this meme is gaining speed.
This is sort of strange, no? I mean I could understand a few hundred votes being wrong in AP's count, but that some 7,500 votes didn't get COUNTED or at least didn't get REPORTED (hard to tell which) is kinda, well, strange.
I'm not from WI, so I'll leave it up to the voters of WI if they think there should be a recount with the State picking up the tab.
Apparently the Democratic co-chair is vouching that the numbers are legit.
Wisconsin DNC already preparing union thugs to protest outside her home.
"Kloppenburg's decision to declare victory yesterday, when the election was a statistical tie, was strategically astute. If and when the result shifted to Prosser, it would appear to her supporters that the Republicans had stolen the election from her."
Which flies in the face of Democrats saying fraud wasn't possible just yesterday.
YES, now Prosser will help vote to uphold the GOP anti-union legislation and onwards and UPWARDS to even BIGGER union-busting victories! Onward Christian, errr Fiscal soldiers!
A law should be passed not to disclose any vote counts for at least 24 hrs after an election to allow time for error corrections. The back and forth vote volleys are undermining our faith in the electoral system. If there're any frauds, let'd do that more competently and behind close doors. We should be able to count better than a banana republic.
Placeholder - Just because Ann opened up a new thread doesn't mean you can repeat all your old comments.
ALH
That's exactly right.
I had someone on the phone long distance that is an old Cali Republican campaign worker.
He was ready to call it at 45% returns and then we both noticed the percentages in Waukesha.
We/ I tried to ask locals about the population of the county.
Everyone noticed that several Waukesha precincts were not reporting and then supposedly all 12 or 14 of them reported
without the vote total going up .
If the AP was following at closely as we were they should have noticed it.
"Kloppenburg's decision to declare victory yesterday, when the election was a statistical tie, was strategically astute."
Or, more likely, pure luck. But in the end it doesn't matter: your analysis of the response is spot on.
IN YO' FACE garbage LIE-berals! Especially to Ritmo, garage, AL and pbj! FUCK THEM!

Maybe the leftist hacks on the State Supreme Court can just flee to Illinois to avoid hearing cases.

It would make for a more sane republic, but how could we have our entertainment? This is priceless!
This is the waterloo for the GOP. My feeling is that this situation is same everywhere. The GOP will narrowly win. But, in 2012, it will lose to Obama/Biden. The only way to prevent that is to have Gov. Daniels as the candidate.
Irene: If and when the result shifted to Prosser, it would appear to her supporters that the Republicans had stolen the election from her.
That doesn't hold when the Democratic co-chair is vouching for everything. She just looks kind of like an ass for jumping the gun now, and everyone who screams "fraud" will look insanely partisan.
"A law should be passed not to disclose any vote counts for at least 24 hrs after an election to allow time for error corrections."
I'm mostly with you on that. The problem is that people watch election results like a damned football game. They want instant gratification. And I wonder if having the counting process shrouded under a media blackout would make conspiracy theories about fraud more or less prevalent. Clearly some people (*cough* placeholder *cough*)create their own narratives about it in whatever way suits their politics, but if they'll do it either way, I'd rather keep the vote tallies sealed until they're certified.
All these election surprises can't be good for the hearts of the two candidates. They're old. When a winner is declared they'll probably both drop dead.
AP, your 6:29 post is spot on, as always. Thanks for keeping it real!

@Jason, I see your point.
But on the street, the result makes her look like a victim. This is what will play for her supporters.

Isn't that already the case, though?
Nickolaus was practically in tears during the press conference. I felt bad for her.
As the Democrats Party of Wisconsin said yesterday, there is absolutely no evidence of any voting fraud.
So congratulations Judge Prosser.
Oh, and to the unions ... nice try. I'm sure Judge Prosser won't hold any grudges.
I don't know if this is more appropriate...
Or, this
We should talk some about how the Associated Press tried to steal this election for the Democrats by deliberately incorrectly reporting the results of this election.
I do hope the Republican Party of Wisconsin is planning on holding hearings about this, and bringing in the AP editors and putting them under oath and forcing them to take the Fifth.

Yep. All allegations of voter fraud have been now-discredited.
Watching that video I really have to scratch my head and ask one simple question.
How did that woman nearly become a WI Supreme Court justice??? Seriously...the reporter is asking a rational question about how she can claim victory and a logical answer seems beyond her. I can see being hopeful, but wow.
Now she can paraphrase Al Gore and introduce herself as "The Gal who used to be the next Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice!" It will be good for laffs. You know, an ice-breaker kinda thing. At all the speaking engagements she is invited to.
By God, but you people in Wisconsin have entertaining politics. I'm half expecting a coup by your National Guard any day now.
Kidding aside... this means the Dems would have to pay for a recount, doesn't it? The Journal Sentinel unhelpfully says it would cost $5 a ward. How many wards are there? What would be the actual cost for a recount?
I ask because i think 7,000 votes would be hard to 'find', so I wonder -- if the recount cost quite a bit -- would they even bother with it now?
BTW, lost in this hubub is your Secretary of State LaFolette (sp?) claiming the appeal can't proceed on the TRO 'cause his name is on it, but he doesn't approve of it.
Eh? He seems to think you guys give him and a county Judge the pocket veto. Strange indeed.
This is the waterloo for the GOP. My feeling is that this situation is same everywhere. The GOP will narrowly win. But, in 2012, it will lose to Obama/Biden. The only way to prevent that is to have Gov. Daniels as the candidate.
Ermm, you realize that Napoleon lost Waterloo, right? If Prosser's win is a Waterloo analogy, that means you are casting the GOP as Wellington, which means that union backed democratic machine politics are destined for Elba. And here we thought that mobys couldn't bolster people's spirits.

You're kidding, right? You couldn't possibly think this is legit, after concluding Tuesday there was "voter fraud" on the part of democrat leaning counties. Then again consistency isn't your strong suit, is it?
Althouse- nice update. You nailed it.
I wonder how the AP did not notice it.
I would think that in a better world, reporters would be doing things like fact checking and seeing if the data they are getting fed is correct and showing some expertise on the subjects they report.
In today's world, though, we get the AP just passing along what they are fed, without curiosity and without credulity, as they drop by from wherever it is that they are normally stationed.
And that's without getting into whatever filters are applied due to personal biases, intentional or not.
We need a new press. Hope this internet thingy is up to the task.
Could someone, such as Chip, photoshop a picture of a smiling Prosser holding up a newpaper headlined "KLOPPENBERG DEFEATS PROSSER"?
"You're kidding, right? You couldn't possibly think this is legit, after concluding Tuesday there was "voter fraud" on the part of democrat leaning counties. Then again consistency isn't your strong suit, is it?"

I think this election will help any Republican and hurt any Democrat facing recall. Both sides threw everything they had at this and the losers are going to have an enthusiasm gap.
I believe it was commenter Pogo who was commenting on "Franken Units" the other night.
Each unit is 500 previously uncounted votes for the trailing Democrat, mysteriously found in the trunk of a car after the election is over. (or something of that nature...i hadn't heard that term before and it still cracks me up)
This puts Prosser up by 15 Franken Units.

@ Madawaskan -
thanks for copying those comments from the other night.
I remembered reading them and thinking that people who were familiar with Waukesha Cty were finding things amiss.
That's one of the things I love about the blog - almost always someone that's in the know about the topic at hand.
I had developed a mancrush on Waukesha County given the strong conservative support they were giving. But when the votes didn't come thru like i was expecting, i must admit that I waivered in my admiration for Waukesha. Now that things have cleared up, lets just say that the mancrush is in full affect.
"Misreported"? Hello? Isn't the whole process supposed to electronic?
Looks like Wisconsin needs look up the words "internal control". Or switch to an abacus.
While I am ecstatic at this turn of events, I am wondering about all the people who are/were a bit put off by Klopsign declaring victory.
Wasn't that exactly what Prosser's campaign manager did at 2 in the morning before they essentially "signed off" and said they'd see in the morning what the total was?
I wanted to wipe the smug grimace off her face when she patted herself on the back, but people, really, they couldn't get started on the recount if there wasn't an end to the election, at which point (the end, signaling at least a premature winner), they could move on to the next step.
IMO, it's the pathetic response to the Fleebaggers in NOT passing a voter I.D. bill that could have been put in place BEFORE THIS VERY ELECTION that made this as close as it was. I am under no impression that fraud wasn't at least ATTEMPTED in this election, and THAT'S the pathetic unaddressed issue that keeps getting kicked down the road here in WI.
In other words-
Althouse commenters are more observant than the AP.
They didn't think it was freaky?
Plenty of us did.
But then we aren't "the media" which is more of a constituency of more registered Democrats than San Francisco.
Reference the added video: Assuming Prosser's lead stands - thank God this women did not win. She looks absolutely vacant behind those eyes.
Nickolaus was practically in tears during the press conference. I felt bad for her.
I don't. A year ago already, other Waukesha County officials were not happy with how Nikolaus ran things. I heard her defend making her three clerks all use the same login to county data. No possibility for problems there!

Wow, excellent questions from the reporters present. Why can't we get those kinds of questions in Presidential press conferences? Oh yeah, that's right, Presidents don't hold press conferences any more. At least not where they might have to field a tough question.
"A 7,500 vote mistake? Who was doing the counting? Seriously...someone needs to get fired for this..."
Well, barring fraud, no one should get *fired* for it. It happens all the time. We have this media-fed notion that "the election" is something that happens between 7pm and 11pm local time after the polls close, and the point of "the election" is to provide cinematic drama for primetime cable news.
In reality, an election is a weeks-long clerical process even when it's not close. The fact that they caught this one is a good thing, not a bad thing. Errors happen.
"Misreported"? Hello? Isn't the whole process supposed to (be) electronic?
The process of counting votes hasn't improved much since Dewey beat Truman.
Each county counts its votes, and then submits those initial counts to the Secretary of State, usually within one or two hours after the polls close.
The AP usually relies on "stringers" ... low paid fact gatherers in each county to relay those vote totals to the AP so that the AP can "predict" a winner (they aren't predicting anything really, they're just counting the same votes turned into the Secretary of State and releasing the totals faster than the Secretary of State would.)
Often, stringers fuck up and get things wrong, or there are errors in communication.
Or, as in this case, stringers have been given an extra "incentive" by some Tea Party Patriots to make the liberal AP look like a bunch of fucking horses asses who can't count.
Nothing illegal about that - because the AP vote count isn't official.
Sure makes for some good fun, though, don't it?
It was indeed entertaining to watch her "victory" speech. Liberal or conservative, I'd like to think that someone positioned to take a seat on a state's high court would be capable of having (and willing to have) an intelligent conversation. The interviewer was absolutely correct to keep pushing her on the question of how she could be so "Nothing else to see here; I won; go home now" in a race that was, at the time, a statistical tie, well within the wiggle-error zone. She, by acting as though the question was moronic, showed herself to be moronic, or fundamentally dishonest, or both. She doesn't belong on the bench.

Ha!
Mattmann, I can't imagine how unfair she would have been as a judge.
She has no capacity to follow the law. the law said there was no winner yet, for damn good reason, and she didn't care.
She wouldn't respect a legit question about this, and shows amazing intellectual dishonesty.
People must really, really hate this Prosser guy if she got as many votes as she did. Honestly, he should be ashamed of himself for that, even if he is obviously much more competent and impartial.
WI probably just dodged a huge bullet. The fact is that this Walker budget reform wouldn't have been affected by this election, but huge issues pass across a state supreme court. Someone like Klopp would have led to so many injustices, many because she is not honest, and many because she's just stupid as hell.
"One adding error in one county"
That's got to be a great Journalist line if there ever was one:
Her use of "Gratified" multiple times reminds me of the Marilyn Lovell line after the launch of Apollo 13:

Hope she kept the receipt for the robe...
So what yesterday was a resounding refutation of Walker's policies is now, I take it, a resounding affirmation that Walker's policies reflect the will of Wisconsin as a whole.
wv: ureen -- thought I smelled something...
Tsk, tsk Althouse.
Great news.
K.C. is right on. I listened to a few minutes of the press conference and had the same reaction - how could the voters possibly elect such a empty person to the supreme court?
And to the people calling it astute to declare victory, it was actually absurd. This is a Supreme Court election. We are talking about a supreme court judge. And she will not wait for the final votes to be tabulated and certified? And she could not give a coherent answer as to why she was declaring vitory.
It looks like Wisconsin really dodged a bullet here. The fact that far left fanatics will allege fraud is besides the point. They would have done so in any loss. They are still doing it about Ohio in 2004 for Bush.
I agree the questions by reporters were very good and very much better than what we see from the national media.
We would be well served by not releasing any election results until noon of the next day. It would allow time for the counting to be done in a professional manner.
Fuck the media. They are not going to get it right, anyway.
Seriously, how do you keep repeating yourself over and over and over, spamming every thread you can find with the same general comment?
Okay, here's something new, and serious, and even non-partisan.
If Dane and Milwaukee counties certify the results that AP reported, or close enough that the differences are immaterial, the two candidates should make the following agreement:
1. Full hand recount of Waukesha County.
2. If the end result has either candidate ahead by more than 500 votes (maybe 750 or 1,000?) then the other will concede and avoid a expensive, divisive statewide recount.
That would be the "statesmanlike" thing to do. BTW, I think Kloppenburg was too quick to claim victory. But so was Prosser. He effectively did the same thing, and before she did.
I guess what everyone would like to know is, what is your opinion of what could come out of Milwaulkee?
I re-checked Milwaukee County's past voting patterns. Turnout there is always quite a bit lower than in the outlying suburbs. So I don't think their certified numbers will be very different than what they reported to the AP, but who can say?
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I'd be surprised and very disappointed if there was wholesale vote fraud there. I don't think there has been in the past. If the Waukesha numbers turn out to be fraudulent, I think it'll be like that Koss Corp. auditor who stole $32 million from the company: a one-off.
Finally, I think Waukesha's county clerk should resign. She's an incompetent bimbo who does not belong in her job, regardless of what happens now.
This is what schadenfreude looks like.
"Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus was heavily criticized for her decision to keep the county results on an antiquated personal computer, rather than upgrade to a new data system being utilized statewide."

I totally agree that it would be nice to avoid the expensive, divisive recount. (Very much wanted Prosser, but thought a recount would be a greater evil than a win by The Klopper when it looked yesterday that she was ahead).
Easy for me to say since I am not the person running of course. I suspect that one who is an accomplished (?) lawyer that gets to the level of the state supreme court race hasn't gotten there by being a pushover or "quitter"... more likely a fighter who keeps going until they are KO'd.
Updates on my Facebook feed (for example, " Welcome to Lawless Fitzwalkerstan... Florida, 2000 pales by comparison!") illustrate that this meme is gaining speed.
It is a lot like Florida - the Democrats lost the election and are going to try to throw it by "recounting" until they win. It worked in the Washington governor's race and it worked in the Minnesota Senate race. Why not Wisconsin?
I will admit that I am crestfallen, and hand on to this remark: "There is a history of secrecy and partisanship surrounding the Waukesha County Clerk and there remain unanswered questions."
@madawaskan
So was all worth missing What Not To Wear huh? :)
"Nicholas said that though she “saved” the database repeatedly throughout the night, for some reason Brookfield data was not included in the version that went out to the AP, among others."
She kept hitting Ctrl-S many times on her Commodore 64 personal computer, but somehow, the votes never ended up getting to the AP.
Or Kleptoberg.
I think Kloppenburg was too quick to claim victory. But so was Prosser. He effectively did the same thing, and before she did.
I'd love for you to point us to the Prosser news conference declaring victory before Klopp did.
Seriously, can't wait to see that...
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I'd be surprised and very disappointed if there was wholesale vote fraud there. I don't think there has been in the past.
Reality calling.
And calling ...
"There is a history of secrecy and partisanship surrounding the Waukesha County Clerk and there remain unanswered questions."
Rorschach, where did you find this bullshit quote?
My personal computer (6yo Dell Inspiron 1200) would handle the returns just fine.
It's not the computer, it's the software.
My software tends to work.
Mostly this is knowing how to test, which comes from intuiting where bugs come from.
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I'd be surprised and very disappointed if there was wholesale vote fraud there. I don't think there has been in the past.
Reality calling.
And calling ...
Franken was Minnesota.
@Eric
I'm glad someone mentioned the Washington Governor's race.
That became the template.
That proved it could be done, and without consequence.
Minnesota, then Alaska....and beyond.
"I think Kloppenburg was too quick to claim victory. But so was Prosser."?
No, he wasn't. Because he ACTUALLY WON.
You can't be "too quick" to claim a victory that you actually won.
You can only be "too quick" to claim a victory that, as Kleptoberg tried, you attempted to STEAL.
Jay, I keep looking, and I can't find anywhere that Prosser said what Placeholder accused him of saying.
I think Placeholder is a liar, and Prosser hasn't said a thing yet.
Even when Klopp was foolishly insisting she won, no doubt about it, move along, sir, Prosser hadn't even said he wanted a recount.
The left loves to make lies up about anyone in their way. We'll see if Placeholder can verify that Prosser claimed victory, but that's extremely unlikely to happen.
And yes ... I did coin the nickname "Kleptoburg."
All rights reserved.
How long before the left blames the Koch Brothers for this?
I will admit that I am crestfallen, and hand on to this remark: "There is a history of secrecy and partisanship surrounding the Waukesha County Clerk and there remain unanswered questions."
I can answer one unanswered question. That remark you passed on was made by Scott Ross, the executive director of progressive advocacy group One Wisconsin Now.
Prof. A, you should have put your "I saw this coming" quotes in a separate post. You're hiding your light under a bushel basket.
Otherwise, GOOD JOB and thank you!
"I really feel sorry for this lady. The Saul Alinsky Democrat left/unions, with their politics of personal destruction, will be after her in a vicious and nasty way. I'm hoping Waukesha County sheriffs will be protecting her home, as well as her spouse and children (if any)."
Less consequentional, but more certain: MSNBC will be savaging her makeup tomorrow.
UT read the article please, and you will also find that she kept this all on her personal computer even thought she was criticized for this in the past. Well 7,500 is a nice round number.
The Grand Inquisitor said...
Jay, I keep looking, and I can't find anywhere that Prosser said what Placeholder accused him of saying.
Of course you can't, because it never happened.
This placeholder clown slipped the word essentially in that baseless assertion. Which probably means that Prosser made some generic statement to the press being confident in victory while the returns will still being tabulated...
Franken was Minnesota.
Wisconsin, Minnesota ... all you people look alike from the East Coast.
"My personal computer (6yo Dell Inspiron 1200) would handle the returns just fine."
Mine would too, dude.
I'm pretty sure that isn't the point.
I'm pretty sure that the point is that we still have, in this day and age, politicians who are keeping election returns on their fucking personal computers.
The vast majority of the American public is under the false notion that our elections are being run in a professional, adult manner.
They aren't.
They're on this dumb whore's virus-infected personal laptop her husband uses to surf porn when there's not a Supreme Court Election this week.
Holy. Fucking. God. Wisconsin so just became the hemorrhoid of America.
All thanks - once again - to Democrat morons.
This placeholder clown slipped the word essentially in that baseless assertion. Which probably means that Prosser made some generic statement to the press being confident in victory while the returns will still being tabulated.
"We are assembling our legal team and continuing to watch our vote totals," campaign director Brian Nemoir. "We are encouraged by the turnout and believe in a record-setting Supreme Court election there’s plenty of reason to believe there’s unrecognized opportunity to deliver a victory."
The Magic Kreskin, that one.
I would've voted against Kloppenburg based on her name alone. I mean really "Kloppenburg"?!
What was she called in Jnr. High? Kloppy? The Klop? Poor kid.
Should've have changed to Kennedy. She'd have been happier and probably got elected.
MSNBC will be savaging her makeup tomorrow.
Speaking of which, this is epic.
We are encouraged by the turnout and believe in a record-setting Supreme Court election there’s plenty of reason to believe there’s unrecognized opportunity to deliver a victory."
Which is of course not saying "I won"
Nor is it a press conference saying "I won"
Are you really this dumb, or just a sock puppet?
I repeat:
This placeholder clown slipped the word essentially in that baseless assertion. Which probably means that Prosser made some generic statement to the press being confident in victory while the returns will still being tabulated.
Thank you for the vindication.
You leftists are so boring and predictable.
I wonder how many recall petitions were gathered Tuesday. This election was like manna from heaven for the recall committees. I would imagine that with the huge turnout that nearly every recallable senator will soon be facing a recall election.
Wow, placeholder, you just admitted to being a shameless liar.
I guess you'll do that a few more times before switching to a new screen name to spread some more lies, right?
Prosser acted like a judge, not getting ahead of the evidence, and allowing for the voters to decide. Klopp declared herself the winner when she wasn't, and had no good reason to say she was, other than to deceive and disrespect the election process.
I guess disrespecting elections is a tradition for Wisconsin democrats (yeah, I know, Klopp's not officially a partisan hack).
Seems like you owe Jay and apology.
"MSNBC will be savaging her makeup tomorrow."
MSNBC will be agitating for Palestinians to bomb her tomorrow.
"The vast majority of the American public is under the false notion that our elections are being run in a professional, adult manner.
They aren't."
On this point I would agree with you. This has gone beyond ridiculous.
How long before the left blames the Koch Brothers for this?
You mean... how long ago?
"“I’m encouraged by the various reports from the county canvases. Our confidence is high, and we will continue to monitor with optimism, and believe that the positive results will hold. We’ve always maintained faith in the voters and trust the election officials involved in the canvasing will reaffirm the lead we’ve taken.”"
That's Prosser's very recent statement.
That's how a classy candidate will act. he's noting the lead, not pretending to be the victor. He's respecting the process, not being greedy about it.
It's interesting that all you have to do to show trash up is act like a decent person.
I'm sure, in his heart, he's calling a lot of you people bitches, since he apparently doesn't have the heart for judicial temperament, but at least he's not adding to the trashy behavior in this election. He's the kind of guy who is a dick at heart, but has self awareness enough to be a reasonable professional most of the time.
WI judges gone wild!!!
Waukesha County Circuit Judge Linda Van De Water has been charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly kicking and jumping on her ex-boyfriend's car after confronting him outside the home of another woman, according to a criminal complaint.
What an entertaining 2 days!
The biggest cause of car accidents is mechanical-the nut behind the wheel. The biggest cause of computer error is the nut on keyboard. All's well that ends well.
The article doesn't say she kept them on HER personal computer.
She kept them on A personal computer, which might have been hers, or might be the county's.
That thing you have on the desk in your office is A personal computer, even though it may belong to the company and not you.
A personal computer (PC) is any general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and original sales price make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer operator. PCs include any type of computer that is used in a "personal" manner. This is in contrast to the batch processing or time-sharing models which allowed large expensive mainframe systems to be used by many people, usually at the same time, or large data processing systems which required a full-time staff to operate efficiently.
Kloppenburg Campaign statement.
Jay,
Not only that, it wasn't Prosser he quoted, it was his campaign director Brian Nemoir.
Klop on.
Klop off.
The Klopper!
I'll bet Judge Sumi is the second unhappiest person in Wisconsin tonight.
Prosser acted like a judge, not getting ahead of the evidence, and allowing for the voters to decide. Klopp declared herself the winner when she wasn't, and had no good reason to say she was, other than to deceive and disrespect the election process.
Kloppenburg was premature to declare victory. It was unwise, for exactly the reason that's now apparent. Prosser's campaign was more circumspect, but I don't think it was too wise of his campaign manager to talk about opportunities to deliver a victory.
In any case, those are side issues. The main issue, and really the only issue, is the result. We're going to know soon enough whether Waukesha County's most recently reported numbers are accurate.
I actually think they are accurate. A little odd in the sense of the turnout being so high, but not really out of line. I think it'd be pretty hard for anyone to gin up that many fake votes in a paper-trail county.
The Waukesha County clerk is a stupid bimbo, but I really doubt she's a crazy-ass nutcase who'd fabricate these numbers. Her explanation, which boils down to a version of, "I'm too stupid to breathe," makes sense. There are plenty of idiots in government, especially local government, and she's one of them.
Hell of a way to get your 15 minutes of fame. I'm going to be surprised if Prosser winds up losing, but weirder things have happened. You just never know. But if he did win, as seems likely, the wingnuts have every right to their victory dance.
Congrats, assholes. Couldn't have happened to a nicer dude.
"it wasn't Prosser he quoted, it was his campaign director Brian Nemoir."
Wow, a campaign director weakly claiming they expect to pull out a victory. How normal.
I guess placeholder isn't ready to be an adult and apologize, though.
Don't disturb the trolls with facts, Gabriel Hanna.
"Kloppenberg campaing statement."
Note that the candidate is not making this statement. And it not attributed even to her "campaign."
It is attributed to a lowly campaign manager making an unofficial FOIA request.
Hardly confidence-inspiring for Kleptoberg co-conspirators.
"Kloppenburg was premature to declare victory. It was unwise, for exactly the reason that's now apparent."
Dude, you only THINK you know the reason why what now seems apparent to you is.
We are inside your OODA loop.
All your base belong to us.
Sounds like go old fashioned Chicago style Democratic vote fraud.
It is a good thing they "caught" it so quick.
Facebook update: "This is getting scary!!"
The Idol results make more sense now.
Bad dose of the Klop.
WV: dited - needs an "in".
Wingnuts didn't win, Placeholder. Hell, there's every chance that Prosser will vote to uphold Judge Sumi's ruling!
Wisconsin and civil society were the only winners.
"The Waukesha County clerk is a stupid bimbo,"
She may be stupid, although I willing to give her the benefit of the doubt - everyone makes mistakes and some times they are big ones. But where do you gather that she's a bimbo based on this mistake? Assuming you know what bimbo means, that is.
Klopperhead--yesterday:
"I WON!"
Prosser--today:
"I'm encouraged"
contrasts....
chickenlittle
Ha!
Althouse
Don't let Beldar fool you-you've got some crappy math going on in your updates.
Precincts are never or rarely equal in size so when you are doing projections you can NOT do direct correlations.
I'd say stick to law but then you aren't even bothering to support your sole observation-you can't think of an obvious way to make your case stronger?
Wow. The AP comes off looking like Dan Rather.
One of Rumsfeld's Rules:
Be precise. A lack of precision is dangerous when the margin of error is small.
Obvious the AP was in bed with the democrats. And, tried to roll this race "over the edge." Will their results ever be "trustted," again?
Milwaukee has 18,000 votes for Kloppenberg, on ballots that have no one else checked off.
So, Milwaukee has 18,000 FAKED Kloppenberg votes, in my opinion.
You know, in California, if you only vote for ONE PERSON, but no one else, your ballot is INVALID.
There's a one-way space probe headed to Neptune in the morning.
Can we place Kloppenburg, Lena Taylor, and Chris Abele on board? Abele can flip the bill.
who is Kloppenburg's campaign manager and why didn't his head explode yesterday when Ms K declared victory?
"There's a one-way space probe headed to Neptune in the morning."
Really?
@Carol Hermann:
Milwaukee has 18,000 votes for Kloppenberg, on ballots that have no one else checked off.
Being new to my district I thought of doing just that, because I didn't know anything about the local races.
But the voting machine was so snippy about leaving slots blank that I just voted, in the local races, for the incumbents, figuring that since they got elected once they couldn;t be that bad.
If I had gone with my first insitinct you'd have called my ballot faked?
"who is Kloppenburg's campaign manager and why didn't his head explode yesterday when Ms K declared victory?"
She's a girl, names Milliken.
And she ordered her partisan hack candidate Klopp to say what she did. You can tell Klopp hasn't thought through what she's saying... basically spitting out programed talking points.
I guess that's also how she would have ruled on cases... just ask her masters what to do.
I remember that sign, that she's a sure vote against this and that. No kidding. That's why she lost.
Don't get the Klop - find more votes for Prosser.
"You know, in California, if you only vote for ONE PERSON, but no one else, your ballot is INVALID."
I sure hope you're talking out of your ass.
"
If I had gone with my first insitinct you'd have called my ballot faked?"
Don't you admit you're extremely atypical? you say you just moved there and dont' care about any of the other races. that is, indeed, extremely unusual.
Why aren't we seeing this in the rest of the counties, or in all the elections in this country? thousands of ballots with one candidate marked off, the one the unions need to win so they get more money? Yeah, that's obviously suspicious, even if you say you considered going to the polls and not voting for anyone but one person.
I think the people who were extremely interested in this election are more likely to care about party line votes, not less likely.
"We are inside your OODA loop."
Maybe you think so, but you have to be good and quick. Klopp's speech was embarrassing. It's like a fighter pilot ejecting in the middle of a dog fight and pulling out his pistol.... because the other fighter wouldn't have expected that.
Yeah, you got inside the OODA loop, but you didn't do so wisely.
WI reeks of desperation to respond to the conservative turn in politics generally. You can't fix our problems with stunts. No trick or speech will work.
Wisconsin needs to stop spending so much money, and democrats will regain power as soon as they become fiscal hawks.
@Grand Inquisitor:
Don't you admit you're extremely atypical?
In my district, sure, but in Madison I bet there's hordes of ill-informed people who found voting for the local races to be too much work. College students, etc.
Have to agree with Gabriel Hanna....
Most of the other races in my area were uncontested incumbents that i didn't like or 2-3 losers that i wouldn't vote for.
My first thought was to just vote for the supreme court race and leave the others blank. But I ended up writing in my own name in the "write-in" area.
I think the important point is the large percentage of over votes in the supreme court race, particularly in Madison where there were other important/contested races going on.
Off topic, but I've always thought it would be nice to have a "none of the above" choice for each race. Sends a general message that you're voting, but unsatisfied with the candidates.
Obvious the AP was in bed with the democrats. And, tried to roll this race "over the edge." Will their results ever be "trustted," again?
Oh bullshit. AP went to the counties for numbers and reported what they were told. AP never "called" the race, and all of the coverage said they wouldn't do that until later when the counties certified the numbers.
Your ADD isn't the AP's fault.
Let's be sure to give Democrat Ramona Kitzinger recognition for being a class act. Refreshing.
She may be stupid, although I willing to give her the benefit of the doubt - everyone makes mistakes and some times they are big ones. But where do you gather that she's a bimbo based on this mistake? Assuming you know what bimbo means, that is.
She has a track record of mishandling election data. This is merely the most blatant example.
Waukesha is now shown as completely in, but the numbers didn't change, so I think something may have been misreported.
Pretty cool. If this law prof gig doesn't work out....
Placeholder,
how do you go from she has a history of mishandling election data, to she's a cocksucking whore?
Leftist womenz sure do draw odd conclusions. Can you give us a link to the empirical data that shows her history of mishandling election data?
WV: nomers:
I sure do mis nomers. He was a smart fella.
Placeholder,
how do you go from she has a history of mishandling election data, to she's a cocksucking whore?
Thats easy - projection.
Kloppenburg declared victory because that is what you do in close elections: you make the other guy prove he is NOT the loser. Happens all the time. So in a sense, even with Kloppenburg having a lead of just a few hundred votes, it made sense politically for her to declare victory. The public (that is not really paying attention like us...) then sees the "loser's" efforts as sour grapes, and thinks less of his/her attempts to unseat the "declared winner", no matter how legitimate the challenge may be.
"Don't you admit you're extremely atypical?"
Who the hell are you to tell me how many people I have to vote for?
"
She has a track record of mishandling election data. This is merely the most blatant example."
You lied earlier when you said Prosser said something he didn't.
you like to level severe accusations without evidence. What's up with that? Perhaps you're like those fools at Kos who insist on lying if it helps the Kloppenburg narrative?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/04/06/964040/-Lets-get-our-messaging-straight:KLOPPENBURG-WINS
Why don't you back up your claims with a link? and remember, the democrats admit these votes are legitimate. whatever you're insinuating, it doesn't lead to a different winner in this election.
But let's pretend for a moment that she realized that democrats cheat a lot, and that if they know how many votes they are short, a box of ballots will be found, and they will win. so she takes an ironclad proven batch of votes... a huge number, and just makes sure they are counted, but not reported, until the democrats have shot their cheating wad.
I have to say, that's a great idea. A patriotic idea. All elections should hold back a large margin, in a verifiable, undeniable way, until the urban precincts have all reported their totals. I know that is hardball politics, but you democrats have been playing hardball all along.
Mary Katharine Ham tweets the new narrative:
"Small, state-wide election with vital national implications soon to have no national implications whatsoever."
"it made sense politically for her to declare victory."
But she's not a politician, she's a judge, or at least she was saying she was. She should have followed the evidence, and showed the state they could be confident in her honesty. She failed to do this, and her political career is now destroyed, thank God.
Obvious the AP was in bed with the democrats. And, tried to roll this race "over the edge." Will their results ever be "trustted," again?
And isn't funny how the "uncredentialed" Althouse & Meade got it right while the "professional" AP published falsehoods that a simple fact-check would have caught?
Hopefully they have medics standing by at Shirley Abrahamson's home; it can't be good for her health to hear that her intern wouldn't be joining her on the Supreme Court.
I was on jury duty last week and at the jury pool orientation they showed a video that featured several clips of Abrahamson. There were a lot of audible reactions in the room whenever she appeared on screen.
wv: progg ---- no way.
This was a very clever right wing trick. They held back 7000+ votes so the lefties would underestimate how many fraudulent votes they needed in those late reporting precincts. Now the lefties have to start finding stuff in car trunks and closets all over Wisconsin.
That won't work, though. The righties have additional votes lined up and ready to go at Koch Industries. All the EvilKochBrothers have to do is press a few buttons and their direct line to Wisconsin voting machines will add any needed votes.
Final tally:
Prosser: 8,472,394
Kloppendocker: 8,471,202
A squeaker, but justice prevails.
The AP appears to remain unconvinced..
Total 3630/3630
739,886 50% Prosser
740,090 50% Klopper
WV mistska - a Klopper mistake
There's dancing....and there's dancing..
This is..the greatest news conference ever
Que Trump: YOU'RE FIRED!
Grand:
"..But let's pretend for a moment that she realized that democrats cheat a lot, and that if they know how many votes they are short, a box of ballots will be found, and they will win. so she takes an ironclad proven batch of votes... a huge number, and just makes sure they are counted, but not reported, until the democrats have shot their cheating wad...."
That's what I've heard elsewhere..that they were withheld until the usual Democratic late-night 'adjustments' were tallied.
"But she's not a politician, she's a judge"..
Oh, I agree, and as a New Yorker I had no dog in this race (but hope that Prosser wins). The problem is that all elections are political, so she tried to use a political ploy to her advantage. I am hoping it does not work out for her. If she had said she would recuse herself from the voting on any ruling involving the new "union rules" law that is likely to reach the Supreme Court, she might have won.
I think I saw a Unicorn fly in front of Kloppenburg during her victory speech!
Meade, those extra million points look to have paid off for Prosser.
Thanks!
Blue Poppies for you next year!
"This is the waterloo for the GOP. My feeling is that this situation is same everywhere. The GOP will narrowly win. But, in 2012, it will lose to Obama/Biden. The only way to prevent that is to have Gov. Daniels as the candidate."
Thank you, America's Politico, for showing up to represent the Concern Troll™ demographic.
Now, you might want to reinterpret your history lesson, because you're obviously mistaking it with a Star Trek episode.
Forgive me if someone has already posted this speculation -- I'm joining the conversation late after a long day at work here in the Pacific time zone...
But I wouldn't be surprised if this was a planned move in a chess game. Suppose you knew the other side was waiting for results to trickle in and were holding back a few precincts where they had friendly forces to fudge the numbers they need. How can you defend yourself and yet not resort to cheating yourself? Simple: have a big block of your votes held back by "accident" (but in a way that makes them verifiable). Only play that card once the other side has done what they thought was enough. It's pure genius if that's what happened.
Of course, if that *was* what happened, we'll never know.
I like this line, from the second link:
Prosser is a former Republican lawmaker seen as a conservative on the court while Kloppenburg is seen as the more liberal candidate.
So Prosser's conservative, but Kloppenburg isn't necessarily liberal. Just more liberal than the conservative. Moderate, perhaps. Maybe even right of center. :)
OK -- in the time I typed that last comment, I can see new posts that show this line of thinking is already out there. I should know -- there is nothing new under the sun, and certainly not anything new inside my head.
I am extremely happy this was discovered now, and not in, say, 2 weeks, or 2 months. Imagine if that had happened. (Also, consider the reaction here at althouse had Prosser been winning by 200 and 7500 votes for Kloppenburg showed up in Dane Co!)
I do wonder how it happened. I presume that Waukesha Co will now recount everything. That seems prudent to me.
40,000 more votes for Process in the last update?
Or does he lead by 4,000 votes?
Anything where Prosser leads by more than .5% ... means the costs of a RECOUNT costs $5 "per ward." And, would be a democrat expense.
When the votes are CERTIFIED, then we will know the winnah!
Good that Prosser just waits.
He sits till August 1st, anyway.
And, so far, DRUDGE is not carrying this news.
