"And some people don't like the death penalty," I quietly hissed so as not to disturb the flower bird and then tiptoed away.

Yet nor the lays of birds, nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odour and in hue,
Could make me any summer's story tell...

Ten years ago...

America was faced with the problem of perpetual surpluses every year going forward.

There was supposed to be an excess $800B collected in 2010 alone!

We America suck so much that we threw it all away.

Now look at Drudge Report and see Jedi Geitner's mind tricks... We must raise debt ceiling for the eleventh time since the days of horrifying perpetual surpluses? What's the point of having a "ceiling" if you just continually raise it?

Oh, I hope Ann drags up that video PaulV linked to. It's a thing to behold and would get a lot of us hillbillies fired up. Blog advertising.

Believing that is exactly what went wrong. That and all the related math and history ignorant beliefs that led too many of us as individuals and collectively to squander our wealth and our heritage. Welcome to rent day.

Anyone who thinks there was EVER a danger of "perpetual surpluses" does not understand politics at all.

Politicians spend every penny they have, at a minimum. The surpluses of the 1990s, inasmuch as they existed at all (the national debt grew every year, after all) existed only because revenue grew faster than expected. In short, Congress WOULD have spent the money if they'd known it was going to be there.

I happened to be having dinner where the Spanish language news Univision was on and it described Obama's plan to reduce the debt as cutting benefits for the rich.

No joke.. I've translated the lead into the segment.

Amids congressional discussions about the federal budget, President Obama launched a proposal to accomplish an enormous cut in the fiscal deficit. Basically his idea concentrates in giving less benefits to the rich. But immediately the republicans found an explanation to say to him that it is not possible to touch those with the most money. Lourdes Belosa will tell us what that was.

Its bizarro world.

This is a critical time of year for the crow. He considers the wellbeing of his saffron business run through eBay as dependent on the success of this single patch of stigmas, for he regards these plants as stigmas only, having no use at all for the bulbs, leaves, stems or flower petals.

PaulV,

Thanks, but I got the betas when it came out (I'm still going to blog on TAG's take on it, though)

Now it's all about Bedlam & Mayhem!

And good music, of course. Hear that, Ann? GOOD Music!

No, ten years ago, we were faced with the same media propaganda designed to make an incompetent Democrat President look good as we have now.

There was no Willie surplus except in his speeches and the media smokescreen.

Julius; below are the national debt figures by year from the US Treasury:
Point out the surplus for me.
You maroons keep repeating that 'Clinton left us with a surplus' crap. Repeating it over and over doesn't make it so. But don't believe me go the the Treasury Dept site and figure for yourself

@Lars

I'm going into continuous-loop mode on this, so get used to it, and learn it for yourself;

Liberals know SO MUCH about SO MANY THINGS that simply AREN'T SO.

Oh, and those middle-of-the-roadies are nothing more than dodgy liberals.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

You're right ,of course; but the facts bear repeating. There is an obdurate innumeracy on the left.

LarsPorsena referred to the ever rising national debt totals and cited the "surplus" hoax as Repeating it over and over doesn't make it so.

You, too, join my hero list for today. But ... I am crushed. You mean if one has massive debt to both Master Card and Visa, going back years, but actually manage to NOT use either card for a month or two, thus leaving some change left over from one's periodic income, that it is NOT a "surplus" per se?

Sob. :-(

I think that would have to have been a 'blow' summit.

Say hey, cheer up!! The munificent 2010 Congress gave everyone a Christmas gift, in addition to Pelosi Care, with a one year "stimulus" reduction (for 2011 only) of the FICA employee portion of the payroll tax. Let's see ... allegedly SSA is broke, or soon to be broke, so let's cut the revenue a bit, eh? Nothing beats giving suckahs "gifts" paid for with their own money. For minor details: See Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010. and also this evaluation.

Well, everbody got a freebie ... well almost everyone, except retirees, unemployed, homeless, etc. ... e.g., their core objects of affection if the speeches are to be believed. Oh, my.

Them thar bleeding hearts shur nuff do NOT mind tax changes that are "top heavy" (and entirely unfunded and unnecessary) ... when no one is paying attention, that is, and that tax the rich meme can be dispensed with momentarily. Momentary truth: Ain't enough rich folk in the US of A to make piddly squat progress on the deficit squandering (which they intend to continue per yesterday's lil' speech by the O) ... got to stick it to everyone and the more the mo betta.

Fair enough, but let's be honest: religion heals, but it also kills. Why support a supernatural belief system that, for instance, contributed to that minister in Florida's burning of a Koran, which led to the deaths of innocent U.N. workers in Afghanistan?

Yeah, it was the Florida preacher's religious beliefs that led to deaths.
