I just watched video Meade brought home, and I am not going to put it on line. But I can tell you, there is at least one person there who has lost his mind from (apparently) sleep deprivation.
Someone needs to go around to everyone who is still there and check them for mental stability. Somebody needs to find the people who need to leave and don't know how to leave. If you are encouraging people to stay, to hang on and remain tough, you need to know that there are some truly sad people there who need to be told that they've done enough and must leave now.
Please, for the love of God, go around to the human beings who are there and talk to them individually. I know you believe in your cause, but there is at least one person among you who needs love and needs to be saved!

Save a leftard from their own inbred insanity. Won't someone think about the sanity of sleep deprived leftards? Woe is us.
Well I guess we know where Dose of Sanity is hanging out these days.
Now you have peaked my interest.. Couldn't you blur the face and still give us the video?
Touche York.
I have to go to class with Althouse though. I'm not still protesting inside. :(
Take all prescribed medication.
Remain centered.
Breathe consciously.
Democrats are like Muslims—the fewer there are, the better.
That's Douche York.
At least that's what most people say.
Yep.
Even though I doubt A Lefty blogger would have had the same humanity if they had this on a Republican protester-good call.
Democrats are like Muslims—the fewer there are, the better.
One of the many reasons I'm a proud democrat. To counter idiots like you.
And don't let the evil blogger lady know you are in her class. She will take it out on your grade dude. Fly under the radar.
And most of all.
Don't wear shorts.
Someone should have been checking on their mental stability 2 weeks ago.
That's Douche York.

Accepted the poll results? How have you been?
She knows I'm in her class, but doesn't know who. I think we'd both be happy to keep it that way.
I think he already done gratutated.
Someone needs to go around to everyone who is still there and check them for mental stability.
That should've been done when this started.
And show the video, Ann:
That's the job.
In other words, you have some homeless sleeping in the Capitol building.
Democrats are like Muslims—the fewer there are, the better.
The Race to the Bottom has been won.

Okay, that was funny.
Okay mom.
If they're killing themselves in a pointless temper tantrum shouldn't we just nominate them for a Darwin Award?
Don't show the video.
Maybe, however, there'd be a way to make some serious noise to get the attention of those rather "helpful" doctors who were writing excuse slips.
The thing about getting so tired or dehydrated is that you really do lose the ability to recognize and care for your own needs.
Nah, let 'em stay until they go completely bonkers. Then they can go to the nice state home for the bewildered at taxpayer expense.....
You know in Canada they have an old colloquialism for the insane asylum, they call it-
The Round House.
Is the capitol building actually round?
I never really got that saying.
Tell them to head over to Noodles, there's a position about to open up.
While I laughed my azz off at Trooper York's comment about Dose, my friend Dose of Sanity is right about Juba's comment.
It is people like that, that give Dose of Sanity his ammunition to use against the right in public discourse.
That comment was so offensive on so many levels. What is funny is I bet you were the first to chime in on Holder's comments.
Sickening
Once you identify yourself as a student here, I will not talk to you again.
Very young kid. Mom and a dad and sister back home out of state. I offered to get him medical help. He said no but asked for a hug. I hope he makes through another night. He seemed very confused and sad. He needed to get away from the drumming.
(I mean, if you are pseudonymous.)
"It is people like that, that give Dose of Sanity his ammunition to use against the right in public discourse."
It gives him ammunition, and proves him a hypocrite.
Play the student card, and, basically, you've checked out of the community here. I can't interact with you.
Once you identify yourself as a student here, I will not talk to you again.
Wait, so you will talk to me as long as I don't reveal my real life identity? I don't see the problem as long as I don't. I'll respect your wishes either way though.
The Round House Gaol: Western Australia's first lunatic asylum.
Hudson-Rodd N, Farrell GA.
Centre for Development Studies, Edith Cowan University, Western Australia.
Abstract
This paper is an account of the social history of the Round House Gaol in Fremantle, Western Australia and of those lunatics that were gathered together into its closed geographical space. The first permanent structure, perched on the most elevated and prominent site in Fremantle, was a gaol; the design for which was based on Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon or Inspection House, created for the purpose of surveillance and control of inmates. Visible in 1997, the Round House still stands as a dominant, physical marker of the landscape, ranking as a premier historical tourist attraction in Western Australia. But its actual use as a place for the containment of lunatics is only cursorily alluded to. This paper addresses the previously ignored period of 1830-1850.

Maybe it's a Common Wealth thing.
He needed to get away from the drumming.
If that were happening at Gitmo, these same people would be calling it 'torture'.
I thought Althouse wanted to be a reporter. But look, she's keeping the truth, the reality of what's happening from us. She's gone from "new media" to "mainstream media" in about a week!
Now I sad.
Could you invite him over for a cupper?
Very young kid. Mom and a dad and sister back home out of state. I offered to get him medical help. He said no but asked for a hug. I hope he makes through another night. He seemed very confused and sad. He needed to get away from the drumming.
*Shit*.
Muslims are like democrats - they want to control everyone and everything and make all worship their god, be it allah or abortion or collectivism or profound stupidity. They both are totalitarians and antithetical to America.
If they are truly suffering, they should be put out of their misery.

PS If Dose of Salts really is in one of the Professor's classes (and I rather doubt it), five will get you ten she knows exactly who it is.

It was an inane statement, true. But I've always found it disturbing how Democrats(?) can only be bothered to counter statements like these, passing over countless other perfectly legitimate and challenging arguments. It's easier than actually thinking, I know, but there are a lot of people--many at least as clever as you--who have views different from yours. You should acknowledge them.
The unions do not care... they'll exploit anyone for their cause.

@ Althouse : Would you prefer I stop posting here? I figured the anonymity of the internet would preclude any ethical conflicts you might have. If not, I can respect your wishes and return in the summer.
Ann, let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of your blog. However, you should probably think about whether you are addressing a student before they reveal that fact to you.
I have seen some of the personal comments you make towards some of your readers in the comment section. Some were very personal in nature (i.e., calling someone an idiot).
What differnce does it make AFTER someone reveals they are a student? How about just taking the personal attacks out of your responses all together? You know there is a high liklihood of you having students among your readers.
Jeez com'on you know who Dose is already. Don't try to be coy. He is the guy with all the pimples and the wispy goatee and hipster doufus glasses with his greasy hand in his pocket all the time while you bend over to write on the bottom of the blackboard and....what....or they all look like that....nevermind.
Why? Because someone could be a student? That means passing up all the chances to call all non-student idiots, what they are.
Even the girls. They have the best goatee's. Just sayn'
And Dose if the professor throws you out you can always move over to my blog. The professor says all the ones who can't hack it here mosey over there. Just sayn'

Thanks for the offer. I may do that. My failed attempt to generate traffic for my site still fails. I don't get this whole "blog" thing. :-p

Blogger is beginning to really piss me off. It suddenly started making me try twice to enter comments every time.
And the reason it gives is wrong.
@amandaell:
I disagree. Student or not, the adressee is simply an anonymous commenter, not a student in a classroom. Nor is he a person showing the same sort of propriety as he would if he were in class.
Oh I will pimp out your blog buddy. I got hd about three or four regular readers. It would be my pleasure.
Just a word of advice.
Pointy breasts.
I will say no more.
amandaell, It's not *about* being nice to someone because he or she is a child. Everyone is assumed to be a grown up and able to "take it." It's not being a student that is a problem. It's Althouse being in a position to prejudice someone's career. And it doesn't matter if she *does* only if someone accuses her of it.
At least, that's what seems completely obvious to *me*.
amandaell: What differnce does it make AFTER someone reveals they are a student? How about just taking the personal attacks out of your responses all together? You know there is a high liklihood of you having students among your readers.
I can't remember Althouse making personal attacks, but if she wants to call us idiots, she should. Speech codes are for places with people of limited intellectual capacity, like college campuses, not blogs. If any changes need to be made then we, as commenters, should be less idiotic!
"Once you identify yourself as a student here, I will not talk to you again."
Keep that in mind Meade. It could come in handy.
As for Dose: DADT
So if he's a young kid-male-ask any psychologist if he has any genetic predisposition for some pretty harrowing mental illness, when you put them in a stressful environment and take them out of their normal environment-back home-without their usual support system-
If he's borderline or prone to depression..he's in trouble.
If he made any suicidal gesture that needs to get reported to someone that can do something the University Med System or what have you.
This sounds pretty serious.
You can't just ask the police to take a look at him for his own good?
What is funny Trooper, is that you probably couldn't hold Dose's jock as far as academics go. He may be as liberal as they come, but I can personally attest to the fact that there aren't too many people out there smarter than him.

This idea has merit - it's called a wellness check. The issue becomes the fact the person can refuse treatment, the officer can't force him. I think Meade already offered it..
In Florida there is The Baker Act. I don't know about WI.
***
Florida Mental Health Act
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Florida Mental Health Act of 1971 (commonly known as the "Baker Act") is a Florida statute allowing for involuntary examination of an individual.
The Baker Act allows for involuntary examination (what some call emergency or involuntary commitment). It can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, physicians or mental health professionals. There must be evidence that the person
has a mental illness (as defined in the Baker Act) and
is a harm to self, harm to others, or self neglectful (as defined in the Baker Act).
Examinations may last up to 72 hours and occur in over 100 Florida Department of Children and Families-designated receiving facilities statewide.
There are many possible outcomes following examination of the patient. This includes the release of the individual to the community (or other community placement), a petition for involuntary inpatient placement (what some call civil commitment), involuntary outpatient placement (what some call outpatient commitment or assisted treatment orders), or voluntary treatment (if the person is competent to consent to voluntary treatment and consents to voluntary treatment). The involuntary outpatient placement language in the Baker Act took effect in 2005.

Whoa there Nellie. I am on his side. But I bet I can out smash him in any little test you might want to devise. I am not really a semi-literate dese dem and dose guy....I only play one on the internets.
Wait a minute. Are you his girlfriend?
I think the operative phrase in all of the above is-
Is a harm to self.
I'd understood "student here" to mean a student at Wisconsin, not any generic student on Althouse blog.
There have certainly been any number of "I'm going to law school" commentators in these parts.

No, not his girlfriend (I'm not a girl, this is my wifey's screen name). But,I am a friend, and I thought you were serious about your description of him being that pimple faced kid in class.
Believe, me, I am a Libertarian and it is hard for me to defend him sometimes, but when someone attacks a friend's intellect I will jump in.
Oh and you can't use Meade, peroxide, boxed wine or cheese. That's too easy. Just sayn'
I just called the Madison police department, and they are aware of a young man who is on a hunger strike, and he is receiving medical attention.
And of course it is perfectly appropriate for her to mock fat loud mouthed obnoxious shop owners and pimple faced hipster dofous law students as well.
Fair is fair.

That was very nice of you Deborah. Admirable for someone to act instead of just talk a good game.
Once you identify yourself as a student here, I will not talk to you again.
Somewhat tangential but when our middle son, now a naval office, was three and still mastering the language and the art of the insult, he would respond to something stated that he thought was ignorant by exclaiming:
You STUDENT!
y/w
I appreciate Althouse for not posting the vid. She's just a big softy.
"you probably couldn't hold Dose's jock as far as academics go"
An unfortunate mixed metaphor, that.
Like saying someone's got mad slide rule skilz in basketball.
There is no news value in video of a person suffering from mental or physical maladies. Unless someone doubts the Meadehouse reporting, the news value is in the facts, not the video. The video would add nothing to the facts. All it would add is sensationalism.
If this were a matter in dispute, such as a disputed conflict between parties in the capitol, I would demand the video. But here, there's presumably no dispute.
Thank you, Professor. I wish the MSM would follow your lead, and stop sticking microphones in the faces of grieving families and cut out the sensationalism.
"you probably couldn't hold Dose's jock"
To be fair, no mere mortal could.
I can't mock the professor yet York. Internet mocking could lead to awkward real life confrontation. I avoid that whenever possible, until I know it's acceptable. It clearly isn't right now.
JP
omg.
At about the 3:08 mark the Democrat has all he can do to protect the Republican from the mob...I really am having a hard time watching it.
Alex, normally I'd agree with you, at least in general terms about hunger strikers who expect to be force fed through tubes like the dummies at Gitmo.
I don't see any reason not to have compassion for what isn't anything more than foolishness.
And saying "what an idiot" isn't anything like making a hero out of the idiot for it.
People need to drink adequate fluids or they quickly become mentally impaired and might not be capable of reversing the situation without help.
(And then there are the "Code Pink" type hunger strikes where not only do they drink water, but high calorie protein shakes and smoothies.)
While I think I can appreciate the Professor and Meade's concern -- (being a nurse who worked some night shifts in a previous life) why would anyone have to be sleep deprived?
As it got late and there was clearly no threat of being booted out ... unroll the sleeping bag, put in the earplugs, cover your eyes and go at it.
If the comrades were drumming all night ... well, maybe they should have shut down out of care for each other.
Ahhh ... compassion is for the conservatives. And taking care of The Group isn't a feature of progressive largesse or unionization?

Good for you, Deborah. I hope someone will also intervene to persuade this person that his life and health is primary. If the kid dies, it will likely not help the cause he believes in, and will break a lot of hearts, even beyond those who know and love this person directly.
Trooper, I suggest as your field of battle: history and terminology of narcotics. I have it on good authority that Dose doesn't even know what dilaudid is.

Disgusting and completely over the line.
I'm not a shrink, but if cooler heads don't prevail and soon, mentally unbalanced sorts, just may choose to do an evil act, against Scott Walker.
No one, absolutely no one needs that, whether one is for or against Walker, that just can't be allowed to occur.
Actually at about the 2:55 mark I think it gets under control at about 3:10.
So not as bad as I feared. I don't think the Democrats realize what they've unleashed-at least not the Dems in WI.

Yep. hopefully that video gets some exposure-that needs to get seen.
Eugene O'Neill used a drum in his play The Emperor Jones. He knew the drum would change the audience's pulse rate and instructed that the beat be slowly increased as the play reached its climax.
If they are using a constant drum beat in the Capitol they are vile nasty people.
Trooper, I suggest as your field of battle: history and terminology of narcotics. I have it on good authority that Dose doesn't even know what dilaudid is.
He speaks the truth.
Sounds like the Red Cross or Salvation Army should get a lunch wagon over there with a few medics. You would think the union protestors would be looking out for each other.
I just watched video of a Republican lawmaker being mobbed by a crowd of assholes, who wouldnt even let the Democrat assemblyman calm them down. Democrats in Wisconsin should be ashamed. Seriously ashamed. Diagusting diaplay. Abofuckinglutely disgusting.
The kid sounds as if he is trapped by his strong loyalty. He is certainly worth saving.
Well, I find the mob video horrifying. And after watching, I'm having a hard time allocating my compassion quotient to the savage babies comprising that mob. These people are deranged by ideology, by self interest, by massive, narcissistic self importance. I can't feel sorry for them. I guess the pendulum has swung all the way to the other side from Pinkerton's gangs bludgeoning strikers, or the NYV cops beating on the Triangle Shirtwaist "girls" marching in New York. Now it is the "protestors" who are the violent mob. There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior. And there should be no sympathy for the people who are in it or behind it. These people are not merely sleep deprived. They are reason deprived and character deprived. They absolutely refuse to recognize the rights of others to hold any opinions that differ from theirs. A rabble. To blazes with them all.

As one who sympathizes with the protesters, I think it is time to stop the occupation if the capitol. It seems to be getting out of hand and has served it's purpose and is now counterproductive.
Also the building should be open during normal hours and while business is being conducted. But close the building at night and the protesters should willingly and peacefully leave. The protesters can return the next day.
wv - denest as in cease and denest
But close the building at night and the protesters should willingly and peacefully leave.
But of course they won't. That is the whole problem. They want a confrontation.
I agree the protesters want a confrontation. I think that they are wrong.
If the eviction is done in a professional way, it would be a draw. If the protesters act poorly it would be a big plus for Walker. If the cops are unprofessional it would be a big win for the protesters.
Who are these crazies? I hope they are not really teachers responsible for the eduction of young peple in Wisconsin.
http://hotair.com/archives/2011/03/01/video-wisconsin-dem-intervenes-to-protect-gop-senator-threatened-by-mob/
Could you imagine if a Tea Party Rally ever behaved with 1/10th the "vitriol" shown by these left wing folks?
"I'd understood "student here" to mean a student at Wisconsin, not any generic student on Althouse blog."
Exactly. If a Wisconsin student chooses to speak here using a pseudonym, that's fine. They participate in a community of equals. But if they decide to say "I'm one of your students" then they are asking to be treated in a special way. They may think they get extra leverage by doing that, but it's a bad mistake. They are simply turning themselves into bystanders to the give and take here, because I am not going to go into my teacher relationship for one individual who chooses to identify as one of my students like that. It's a pretty cool thing that one of my students could come here and interact with me in this one-on-one way, as anyone in world can. If they don't see the value of that, that's their loss. I think it's a value, and I write this blog because I care about that value. But if you don't see the value, that's it.
Dust Bunny, log off, shut down thing twice. My cookies are enabled, in fact I can see the cookies. I can erase the cookies and make new ones, so far nothing has worked, and that's why I'm angry
vewee vewee angwee indeed.
But thank you for your suggestion, you're a saint.
If they are using a constant drum beat in the Capitol they are vile nasty people.
Of course they are, the drum beating the repetitive chanting both are known techniques to disrupt critical thinking and replace it with emotion.
The military has known this for centuries. It's how you get the troops to charge into gunfire. While armies don't march to the drum beat any more they still use cadence calls to form a bunch of individuals into a cohesive group.
The protesters are getting themselves worked up emotionally without a clearly defined target to attack, they have already taken the Capitol building. So they look for something else to turn their anger on. Push comes to shove and people get hurt.
The union leaders don't seem to care if the crowd gets out of hand and turns violent.
Vile indeed.
But let's all remember that while the lefties here assert Meade is an asshole, douche, and "instigator" for asking questions the protesters would rather not face, not one has anything negative to say about the protesters far worse actions.
Some of the "demonstrators" are from the quasi-criminal left which are pilot fish to movements like legal protests sanctioned by the local and state by-laws.
If this crowd harassing Sen. Grothman had been tea party members [impossible since tea party members are law-abiding and sane members of society fed up with fiscal harikari like the public unions commit], the MSM and lamestream operatives would be on the job 24/7 trying to goad violence and confrontation.
The use of drugs and particularly crystal meth might have something to do with the exhaustion and demented behavior of some of the protesters.
Also, being bussed in from out-of-town without local resources adequate to the upkeep of demonstrators could be another cause.
And some are just hippie, love-drug radicals left over from the sixties who have nothing better to do with their life.
I am appalled by the tone on this thread. I appreciate good humor on either side of the spectrum (I know lefties don't have a sense of humor)but if there are people on the edge then it's not a laughing matter. There is a potential Jared Lochner or Amy Bishop out there and the longer the protests go on the higher the probability that someone is going to be seriously injured or killed by one of these crackpots

It would probably mean a lot if one of their Democratic legislators told them that they had fought the good fight and should now head home.
Somebody could take them a pan of brownies.
It's just weird to write, "I'm someone you know, but I'm not telling who!"
And identifying as a student sounds like a request to be part of the commenter farm league. Make a new name and see if you can hack it as an adult.
When I was fourteen and first had AOL, I used to lie and say that I was twenty-eight (sounded old to me at the time!) so that people would discuss things with me as though I were an adult and would hold me to an adult standard.
It would probably mean a lot if one of their Democratic legislators told them that they had fought the good fight and should now head home.
Brett Hulsey did just that on Sunday night. He's also the one who got in between Glenn Grothman and the protesters, yesterday.

Excellent comments. i'm going to see if I can 1. get them front-paged and 2, email them to Brett Hulsey.
k*thy, I really believe Brett Hulsey's moment may be now. I have, in my mind, been mocking him for what seems like a year. But yesterday, I got a glimpse of a man, a Democrat, of courage. I want to do what I can to promote that.

Somebody could take them a pan of brownies.
Or Chip's and my cookies.
Well played!
It's a pretty cool thing that one of my students could come here and interact with me in this one-on-one way, as anyone in world can. If they don't see the value of that, that's their loss. I think it's a value, and I write this blog because I care about that value. But if you don't see the value, that's it.
That's the reason I came here in the first place. It's a pity that I need to be castout, so to speak, but I understand why. To clarify, I didn't "identify" myself based on need for attention, or to seek special treatment. I got questioned on what I do and what I knew about con law all in the same post. I replied back, and Trooper picked up on it right away. I considered making another blogger name to keep posting here, but instead I'll continue to post as Dose of Sanity, and await the summer for your reply.
Cheers.
Dude!
Sorry I got you in Dutch with the teacher.
Keep posting but mix it up once in a while.
Pretend to be a Packers fan. Then everyone will think you are too dumb to be in law school.
"Someone needs to go around to everyone who is still there and check them for mental stability."
Well, they should have done that on the first day... it would have cleared out the place in a hurry.
If I choose not to sleep am I "deprived" of sleep? Am I not just suffering sleeplessness rather than sleep "deprivation".
I suspect the banging of drums and whistles has at least one nasty intention: to keep everybody awake and riled up and to ultimately break them down by sleep deprivation into a mob.

Don't be a flip/flopper ...

and no, you don't have to (((front page))) my comment.
"I suspect the banging of drums and whistles has at least one nasty intention: to keep everybody awake and riled up and to ultimately break them down by sleep deprivation into a mob."
The use of loud noises in such situations serves at least two purposes: It agitates supporters within earshot, serving to rile up the crowd - which can and does lead to mob mentality and associated behavior.
And, such behaviors also serve to intimidate those on whom the ire of the crowd/mob is directed.
In this case though, assuming what Meade reports is true, and from what I saw in the video about the punching of the Fox reporter and the intimidation of the state legislator, the psychological warfare being deployed is having the greatest impact on the people who are deploying it.
Dose, you seem to me a cowardly stalker. Please stop playing the victim card. You get your little thrill -- "you don't know me but I'm watching you" -- in class, and now you've decided to up the game and try to make Althouse feel insecure in her own classroom.
@Dose -- I've appreciated your posts even if I don't agree with them most of the time. You seem on the level to me.

One of the many reasons I'm a proud democrat. To counter idiots like you.
LOL!!! A proud democrat is like a proud Muslim. Willing to martyr themselves for their respective death cults. There is nothing to counter when half-wits like you open their mouths to proclaim how proud they are to belong to a party and an ideology filled with the most wretched ideas imaginable. You're proud of that. Name one redeeming quality of being a democrat or of being a leftard. I'd ask you to name one redeeming quality of being a muslim, but your answer will most likely dovetail.
It's easy to be a democrat or a leftard. It requires zero thinking of any kind. Hey, maybe for you that's a redeeming quality. I'll let you be the judge.
