At Mr. Ice's Café...

P1060341

... you can pour yourself a cold one on this very cold, long night. So keep the conversation flowing.

Very cold, indeed, here in Chicago as well. Looking for words of advice on how to encourage the pooches to act expeditiously during this weather rather than lingering while searching for that perfect spot. Not to drag the conversation into the gutter, but planning is necessary with this type of weather.

Love the Mr. Ice!

I hear they're making a new film version of Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Purchase your favorite expired President.

Palladian...If I were a Supreme Court Justice, I would forego the National Gallery treasures and order a set of these for my office wall.

It's kind of a "coals to Newcastle" thing, isn't it?

@woof

Just prove the old adage "Never bring a cock to a knife fight." Or something like that!

Pour yourself a cold one?

You can tell Miss Ann has something warm to cuddle up to.

And it ain't named Fido.

If they're small enough, dropping them in the nearest snow drift works wonders.

Do these artifacts from the Ice Age surface often?

Drove to Menomonie, WI yesterday to check on the IH Scout for sale. No sale. It was in bad, bad, bad shape. No radiator, missing glass, no headlights, amongst other things.

There is another one for sale in Hutchinson, MN. Looks fixable in the pictures. Does need work though. Will wait until it warms up before checking it out.

Mr. Ice and his wife, Marjorie “Fridge” Ice, announced in an e-mail to friends today that they will be “living separately” now that they have left their Antarctic nest.

"Please do not hesitate to include both of us in fish fries as we will not find it awkward or uncomfortable."

Mr. Ice denied rumors of an affair with Dr. Drifted Snow, a webby yellow-eyed penguin, despite photographs of the pair munching on cephalopods and engaging in common courting and mate-recognition displays.

Yesterday someone felt congrats were in order to the Packers for taking out the Eagles and relieving us the stress of exposure to the dog killer.

Well, I guess Dallas felt we needed further battering of our sensibilities by presenting the dog killer with a key to the city.

Michael Vick confronted by dog owner

Lovely.

In today’s NYT, the child-like Larry Tribe (Harvard liberal-law prof) is telling the Roberts'-5 to go socialist and support Obamacare - because Larry knows it's right. Never mind that Obamacare was slapped together willy-nilly by partisan hacks, and then signed into law by a man of absolutely no legal or administrative distinction - a jive turkey who much prefers weekly house parties and tooling around in Air-Force-One, rather than doing right by the American people.

As I type it's cloudy and 59 here in San Diego. Today it's supposed to get up to 63 today, and as high as 70 on Wednesday. The satellite shows no substantial cloud cover in the west, though at the range we're talking about here relatively low lying clouds won't show up on satellite cameras. In short, our marine layer doesn't show up.

This means most of you in the east and midwest should be experiencing relatively good weather for the next few days. No sign of any storms in the Gulf of Alaska, so the good weather should extend for a week or more. Unless something comes down from Canada, or up from the Gulf of Mexico.

I'm hoping this is the last stretch of sub-zero mornings for the winter.

Mr. Ice is supposed to be giving me my very own snopocalypse tomorrow! 5-8 inches may not seem like much to some of you, but we've had more snow in the last month than I remember ever).

MadMan,

I sure hope you're right. I've noticed the sun coming up ever so slightly, farther north.

AllenS, more likely for us than for you up in the frozen hinterlands of northern WI.

The 16-day forecast shows not much cold air around here once the present airmass moves out. Then we're into late February, and it gets harder and harder to be really cold.
