When those tone-down-the-rhetoric guys use the term "eliminationism"...

ADDED: From the comments over there:
You're eliminationist for trying to eliminate me. No, you're eliminationist for calling me an eliminationist when I'm not really trying to eliminate anyone. No, eliminationists claim they're not trying to eliminate anybody but that's the insidious nature of eliminationist denial. Calling you eliminationist when you are in fact eliminationist is not eliminational. Is too. Is not. Stoo. Snot.

Aren't the eliminationists a splinter (ouch!) sect of proctologists?

It's a literary fact that battle and violence and killing are the extreme form of settling something.

It's a literary fact that you want a striking figure of speech to bring out something in the matter at hand

Bringing out settling something, deciding what to do in one way rather than and so forth, is best done with the extreme of that series as the figure of speech.

So battle figures are used for resolving something.

Kill off that literary option, and you kill off language.

This is all pretty old literary theory.

I see Adam Serwer went to the Stammer School of Punditry. Worthless.

So, he's accusing Conservatives of talking about Liberalism as a disease.

This from the side of the aisle that constantly tries to revisit the notion that Conservatives are mentally defective in some way.

Like Rush used to ask.. Where are the monuments to moderates..

What do comedian say when they make an audience laugh?

You could say its in our DNA.. not to use a dead metaphor.

No, they're a sphincter sect.

I find it remarkable how the actions of an expelled college student can summon the doubt necessary to re-examine the basic foundation of a centuries old language... See how far you get with that in the capitals of Europe?

Its a silver lining.. or something.

Politicians and comedians both do more or less the same thing in front of an audience -- one side laughs at the other. The difference is that with the comedians, it's the audience that laughs.

A 'progrom"?

Not "mentally defective", but definitely a case of some wires being crosssed somewhere.

When I say that Adam serwer looks and sounds like a total pussy, that doesn't mean I favor his being murdered.

I happened to listen to this Bloggingheads in its entirety. Here's what struck me as being significant...

Moynihan from Reason TV entered the discussion pointing out the lunacy of what passes for "political debate" these days. He gave examples of pundits, both right and left, who were simply making crazy claims, and wondered why anyone would listen to them, and take them seriously.

In response, Serwer would always point out the right's bad behavior. JUST the right's bad behavior.

It seemed to me that only ONE person, Moynihan from Reason, came to this dialogue with an open mind, and a clear message that rational and logical people needed to stop paying attention to the fringes on both the right and the left.

They certainly are into some bad shit.

I left a comment at BHTV. Its the typical unbalanced and boring BHTV DV.

I'm not really interesting in discussing whether Glenn Beck or Sarah was "responsible" when there's ZERO evidence that they were/are.

Language is fluid. It changes with the times.

The impression I am getting is that we all need an Oxford Dictionary to tell us where a word originated, and an intervenous blood line to Wikipedia in order to understand how two words came together to mean yet another thing.

Parsing words is a fools' pasttime.

Do you understand my intent? If not, then ask me to explain.

That's called dialogue. It's called conversation, and it is damned well getting to be far too rare an occurrence these days.

The Bloggingheads liberal, when male, is typically an effeminate or metrosexual pussy- is that in the job description?

Penny said...

AJ, Bloggingheads isn't what you think it is.

No way that Bob Wright told either participant that they were there to defend the "liberal view" or the "conservative view.

He merely puts two people together, and asks them to talk to each other for about an hour.

Althouse can tell us more about any guidelines for the discussions, if any?

Penny:
I thought Bob Wright was the prototypical Blogginsheads liberal pussy.

rcocean said...

Bob Wright usually puts the following together:

2 liberals
1 bat-shit crazy leftist and a liberal
1 liberal - 1 liberaltarian
1 liberal - 1 libertarian
1 liberal - 1 "reasonable" DC-NYC MSM approved conservative
1 liberal - 1 moderate.

In BHTV land, Althouse and Mickey Kaus - both of whom voted for Obama - are the "Right-wing".

rcocean said...

If you're old enough, you can remember the ABC/CBS/NBC idea of balance. They'd have a discussion of say Affirmative action and it'd consist of 2 liberal journalists - both for it. A very liberal commentator - very for it. And someone like George Will - who was sorta, kinda, against it.

That's what BHTV is like.

Automatic_Wing said...

George Will is far more conservative than anyone I've ever seen on BHTV.

Dude you just gave them their new masthead! Cool.

Did Crack Emcee submit his application? Has the BHTV Board of Regents made their ruling? Of course, we certainly know that BHTV is loaded with major talent (witness the above), but maybe for the sake of diversity.

You are incorrect sir. Bob Wright is the quintessential Blogginhead liberal pussy.

They haven't filmed bigger pussy since Vanessa Del Rio retired.

Trooper York said...

Sorry the Crack Emccee is not a "house Negro" which is all you will see on the Blogginheads TV.

But I do have to give them one thing. They are definately on the way to curing insomnia.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that they already have their requisite negro?

Trooper York said...

I believe they have two who appear a lot who are professors of African American studies or some very prestigious discipline like that there.

I must admit that I do not watch these divalogs but I do go over and read the comments when the evil blogger lady is a participant. But she posts so many of them here that you have to be aware of them.

Penny said...

"I believe", said Trooper York.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows.

I believe that somewhere in the darkest night, a candle glows.

I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come to show the way.

So?

Trooper York and I seem to agree about what we believe in, perhaps?

Penny said...

Do I have to include quotes?

Testing...one, two...

The Crack Emcee said...

O.K., maybe I'm just ignorant, but explain to me what's wrong with eliminating an ideology that drives people to treat their fellow man like this and this in our everyday lives.

That's what I see missing from this discussion:

The real world consequences, to my life, of someone holding liberal views.

I'm not fighting liberalism because it disagrees with my philosophy, but because it actively seeks to punish me for thinking differently. Obama's election night, even, wasn't a celebratory scream of "We Won!" but an "In your face!" rebuke - one liberals have tried to keep going but has, much to their dismay, finally turned off the country.

While still providing us with decent issues to mull over, these two aren't connecting to my world/issues - AKA what's really wrong here - in the least.

The Crack Emcee said...

Oops - my bad:

This was supposed to have been the second link.

Penny said...

"The Crack Emcee said...

We love you for not stepping over that BAD line, Crack.

A missing link here or there?

Hey...

Who's to judge.

Adam Serwer, Journolist member. Liar, fabricateur.

The truly sad inclusion:

Serwer defends his use of eliminationism by pointing to the subtitle of Hannity's book: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism. So even in the context of "toning down the rhetoric" he still defends using a word everyone in the current atmosphere is claiming means violent.

The bottom line is still that Serwer and people like him are the problem they are railing about.
