At Meadhouse, we're watching Packers game.

Watch with us!

UPDATE: Packers in the Super Bowl!

AND: Now, Obama won't go to the Super Bowl.

AND: We're watching the Jets and Steelers. Meade announces that we're for the Jets, because we want the Super Bowl to be the two 6 seeds who beat the #1 teams.

I am super stoked for this. Go Pack!!

From the safety and comfort (ie warmth) of your own livingroom, I hope.

It was only 24 below in my old hometown, not too far up the road from the game. Back in the day, we would call that a warm spell. I remember the loud snapping sound our house made when it got that cold.

Anonymous said...

In my area, the game is being preempted by commercials.

Patrick said...

John my house made that noise on Friday pm. brrr...

Are you having Doritos and French onion dip? (or Meade's special sweet potato pizza?)

'cause The Blonde hates football and I'd have to come over there to see it.

Fen said...

Looks like Chicago made some adjustments after the first Packer touchdown.

Patrick said...

My 8 y o is as excited as I am. Lots of fun, and high fives for that last series.

Ann Althouse said...

Meade is making some kind of "championship" pizza. He bought 4 secret ingredients. I don't know what he's doing. We watch with a DVR assist and skip commercials, so we're on a delay and catch up cycle which has him at the moment engaging in some intense pizza-related activity.

It's all about things that begin with the letter P today here at Meadhouse. Packers, pizza...

Ann Althouse said...

The game begins with shock and awe by the Packers. The Bears get their turn and go nowhere. The tone is set!

And let me add that the Packers look stunning in their yellow knickers. I love the long dark green sleeves on the Packers, but I'm impressed by the short-sleeved look in this weather.

David said...

3 yard line. Go defense.

David said...

I have no Meade and my lovely wife thinks Packer games are the perfect nap opportunity, so it's popcorn for me. But I popped it myself.

Patrick said...

Glad you like their costumes.

David said...

Touchdown! (Maybe).

David said...

Good start?

Really good start!

Long way to go though.

David said...

Put some leg irons on Hester.

He's still the Bears' biggest weapon.

Patrick said...

PACK TD!!!

Anonymous said...

The Pack came to play.

So long, Chicago.

Anonymous said...

If Vince Lombardi was coaching the Bears, he'd sideline Cutler for at least one series. To get the crap out of his drawers.

David said...

Cutler has all day to throw. Maybe because of the holding?

David said...

Bears defense on state now. They can't allow another TD.

Automatic_Wing said...

Punting from the opponent's 31 is lame. Kick the FG or go for it.

Fen said...

Well, that 10-yard holding penalty on Chicago just killed their drive.

Doesn't look good for the Bears. Greenbay's offense is reminding me of the old Dallas offense - using the pass to spread out the defense, then picking up 10+ yards on the run.

(as I was typing, another 20+ yard run for GB)

MadisonMan said...

I'm working on class stuff at the Conference I'm at, and have espn.com open in a separate tab, so I see the score.

Pins and needles. Go Pack!

Trooper York said...

Oh crap. This is where everyone is hanging out.

I wasted my best Packer insults on the other thread.

David said...

Driver?

Watch Driver.

David said...

"I wasted my best Packer insults on the other thread."

Cut/Paste/Insult.

Trooper York said...

"And let me add that the Packers look stunning in their yellow knickers"

Hee. There you have your typical Packers fan. Hee.

Cutler wants to go home.

Now he's throwing Hail Mary's.

Rahm better get in that locker room at halftime and snap some towels!

Patrick said...

Oh dear...

Anonymous said...

Another. Hail. Mary.

Patrick said...

Right back at 'em!!!

Gerald Louis "Jerry" Kramer was one the best known of all Packers for several reasons. He was the author of “Instant Replay” which was one of the first “inside” tell-all’s about professional football. And he was the basis for the character of “Kramer” on the TV show Seinfeld. The team would scream out his name “Kramer” as he burst into a room. He was famous for get rich quick schemes, wild frizzy hair, bowling shirts and disliking black people. Thus frizzy haired bigots wearing a bowling shirt who hate black people are nicknamed “Kramer” in the NFL.

Who's coaching these clowns?

That's a little harsh. Mike McCarthy seems like a nice guy. Ok he hates commies but who doesn't?

His daughter Jenny is pretty hot.

David said...

Suit up Sid Luckman.

Trooper York said...

Almost Ali said...
Correction: Who's coaching that clown?

Oh, sorry. I think the guy's name is Axelrod or something like that there.

David said...

Just kidding, Troop. Cutler is a talented QB. He can bring them back. Really.

MadisonMan said...

I (heart) Donald Driver. I hope the Packers go to the Super Bowl just so Donald Driver can be there.

Charles Woodson is fun to watch too, but he has an unfortunate college lineage that can be hard to overlook.

Anonymous said...

Well, I'd leave Cutler in the locker room - he's not a money player.

Then I'd fire the coach.

Trooper York said...

Dan “Chester” Devine was one of the most unpopular coaches in the history of the NFL. He of course suffered from the fact that he was the coach that replaced Vince Lombardi. As we all know it is better to replace the guy who replaces the great coach as Ray Handley and whoever replaced Tom Landry can tell you. Dan was nicknamed “Chester” after the character in Gunsmoke who walked with a limp as Coach Devine did after John Brockington broke his leg on the sideline because he traded twenty draft choices for a washed up John Hadl.

former law student said...

Troop - will you be watching the AFC game? Jets or Steelers?

Trooper York said...

Steelers all the way.

They may be a bunch of thugs and rapists but that is still way better than those dog ass Jets.

Anonymous said...

Jets.

What are the odds?

Sixty Bricks said...

Sorry York, Phil Bengston replaced Lombardi before Devine - I forgot about Brockington breaking his leg though.
Go Pack.

MadisonMan said...

I think the Packers/Bears winner will lose the Super Bowl, and the fans will mostly only care that the Bears or Packers beat the Packers or Bears.

Anonymous said...

Time for the Packers rosary.

Patrick said...

Nice tackle Aaron.

Trooper York said...

Phil Bengston and Dan Devine are the same person.

Anonymous said...

...and don't tell me: Steelers by 50!

Patrick said...

Madison Man, I think youay be eight.

Trooper York said...

The best thing to come out of the NFL came from a merger of the New York Footall Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rooney Mara.

Sixty Bricks said...

Was Weeb Ewbank anyone else York?

Patrick said...

May be right.

former law student said...

Rooney Mara.

Troop should like her -- she looks like a teenage Maureen O'Hara. Way too skinny for my taste though.

Patrick said...

Televise is playing out of his mind.

former law student said...

Moral victory time!

Patrick said...

No quit in the Bears.

former law student said...

There are more chicken shit calls in the fourth quarter than in the entire Oregon-Auburn game.

HT said...

Based on the score, it's looking like GB is not putting Chicago away. Guess I'll have to drag myself up across the 45 degree house and turn on the TV.

chickelit said...

Pack FTW!

Peter Hoh said...

That should do it.

former law student said...

OK game over. Time to refresh your drink, get more chips, open up a new jar of herring, etc.

MadisonMan said...

It ain't over 'til it's over.

I am ever the pessimist while watching football.

Roux said...

I think the Defense let up a little on that drive.

The offense has got to get the ball and run some time off of the clock.

former law student said...

Hey, what should I watch instead of the Superbowl? I won't be able to take seeing the Cheeseheads in it.

I hope all the Bears fans will cheer for their conference buddies in the SUPER BOWL!

Obama won't go to the Super Bowl?

Don't be too sure of that- if Pittsburgh wins today, Obama could still go so he can woo some of those swing state voters [PA & WI] at the Super Bowl.

Yes, Clyde Tolsen.

Trooper York said...

Congratulations to Garage Mahal and all the other Green Bay Packer fans who are in the Super Bowl.

Just sayn'

Trooper York said...

Trooper York said...

The prefessor should vote for the Steelers because Franco Harris was the original Obama. Just sayn'

But only if he plays, of course.

Meade, you need to put all that adrenalin in your wife's system to a higher purpose.

KLDAVIS said...

You should be rooting for the Jets, but the reason is because you want both of Brett Favre's former teams in the Super Bowl without him...that'll sting more than the publication of the crocs/crotch-shots.

WV: enoldie. But a goodie? No, Favre is just enoldie, now.

Fen said...

Wish the refs hadn't made that bs intentional grounding call.

I was rooting for GB, but I hate seeing good games decided by something like that - if its not flagrant, let them play the game.

KLDAVIS said...

Fen, the grounding call was not that bad, and the Bears made the first down...at that point, it doesn't really have a direct impact on the outcome of the game.

Trooper York said...

This about sums it up.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Anonymous said...

Fen, the grounding call was not that bad

Yes it was, like the ref was workin' for Green Bay.

Meanwhile, the Steelers are running roughshod over the Jets. But then again, the Jets ain't Chicago.

Picking Green Bay was easy, this one not so much.

Beth said...

Geaux Pack!

Packers are my go-team team after the Saints are out. I'd like to see the the Steelers over the Jets, though. I'm no Roethlisberger fan, but I like Steelers fans, and the whole working class vibe of Pittsburgh.

Sixty Bricks said...

York, thanks for the two great laughs.

Trooper York said...

Hey Beth, I think you have been hanging around with Garage Mahal too much.

Trooper York said...

Stick around rsb, the Steeler game should be a laugher too!

Sixty Bricks said...

It's quite late where I am but I can spare another hour - you seem to be on a roll.

Trooper York said...

Thanks. Hey you are in Belguim?

Are you on a waffle?

hawkeyedjb said...

I was playing golf yesterday (Saturday) down here in AZ; the guy who runs the pro shop was wearing an Evil Chicago Bears cap. He said it didn't look good for the Packers, and he was holding a reservation for a foursome on Tuesday for Aaron Rodgers.

So, I guess there's a tee time available on Tuesday in case anyone wants to come down and play...

Meade said...

Why wouldn't Rodgers keep his tee time?

J said...

Favre's a mean mutha-f-er.

Her lil' sister Brett is as well.

Sixty Bricks said...

Yeah I am in Belgium - reminds me of Brazil - and yes, I am on a waffle.

That's his only advantage.

Looks like it'll be Packers and Steelers, two Red states playing in a Red state for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Who at that game is going to be interested in seeing Barack Obama?

Anonymous said...

Lots of ugly tweets between NFL players re Cutler's injury. Some have already dubbed it Kneegate.

Peter Hoh said...

PA is a red state?

You sure about that?

Deep purple, maybe, but not red.

Peter Hoh said...

Ah, Meade is going by the last senate elections, I see.

Both Wisconsin and PA went for the Democrat in each of the past 4 presidential elections.

After what the Jets did to New England, I think they'll be in the Superbowl next year. Ryan is a good coach.

Fen said...

Bad call the grounding? The one with no receiver in no less than 16 yards?

Yup. The same one where the receiever is tripped up and on the ground. Gee, no wonder he wasn't where he was supposed to be. And what about all the other games where a reciever is overthrown by 16 yards?

Look, I admit it could go either way, but it turned a 3rd an 1 into a 4th and 1. Let them play the game.
