Likely dead, yes, but apparently Reid is going to try a vote next week on the House version, trying to pull in R's who vowed to block progress on anything before the tax bill is passed.
Cubanbob (mi 'mano) has it nailed--the vulnerable dem senators--and there a lot of them--arent going up on the skyline for dirty harry--they read the election results last month and will be keep a very conservative profile.
Glad to hear it. The DREAM Act made little sense but then what from Congress does make sense?
I'm open to the idea of illegal immigrants who enlist and serve honorably in the military going to the head of the line for legal status. I support that just as I support legal immigrants who serve in the military getting fast track treatment to citizenship.
But the granting of legal status to illegal immigrant college students - who probably outnumber those serving in the military by at least 50:1 - makes no sense.
That would be great. Feingold has just recently been rejected by his home state, I'd love to watch him try to spin that as a "jumping off point" for a Presidential run. Maybe he could get Bloomberg as a running mate and they could be the first major Party candidates to get zero votes in the general election.

"Iran is planning to place medium-range missiles on Venezuelan soil, based on western information sources[1], according to an article in the German daily, Die Welt, of November 25, 2010. According to the article, an agreement between the two countries was signed during the last visit o Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Tehran on October19, 2010. The previously undisclosed contract provides for the establishment of a jointly operated military base in Venezuela, and the joint development of ground-to-ground missiles"
Is progress toward doom actually progress? I mean it is moving forward in some literal sense of the word. But who yearns to move closer to destruction?
If Obama is not the Democrat nominee in 2012, the Dems can kiss the black voting bloc goodbye. It will be viewed as racism, in spite of anything Obama may say.

They could not possibly be this stupid. If they tried such a stunt at the minimum they risk getting the Wagner Act repealed when the next republican administration comes in to power along with the revocation of the executive order allowing federal workers to unionize and the repeal of the Davis Bacon Act (requiring union scale wages on federal building projects and if that were to go down probably federal dollars for state and local projects that have similar rules as well). And just for shits and giggles the republicans might even throw in a national right to work bill and a ban on closed shops. The left contrary to all common sense believes the public agrees with them when November's election proved them so terribly wrong. If they think they can pull these stunts and that no one will notice or care never mind enrage a majority not to just undo them but to go much, much further they're nuts.
God help me but Michael Savage just might be right when he claims liberalism is a mental disorder.
If Obama is not the Democrat nominee in 2012, the Dems can kiss the black voting bloc goodbye.
Brought up that very point myself earlier this A.M., elsewhere hereabouts... but, as of this writing, each and every last one of this site's resident leftists has blanched at the notion of commenting on the matter, hissing and recoiling from it like vampires from a crucifix.

There is no democrat today who is comparable to Bobby Kennedy. If the left gives Obama a serious primary fight other than Pat Buchanan or possibly Sarah Palin running as the republican candidate there is almost no chance the republican candidate could lose the 2012 election.

I'm with you for those who enlist, I bet most people are, and that's exactly what they're in there for; as cover for the "college students." When you listen to the Dems argue for the DREAM Act, they put the soldiers up there front an center and then tack the college students on, as if an after thought.

In a sense, there is no Bobby Kennedy. There is nobody to the left of Obama in the party who would be considered electable as president.
Well, there is one possibility, and that's Al Gore. But I'm not sure he wants it, and there would probably be some messy personal stuff from his divorce that would become public if he ran. (Then again, Feingold has two divorces of his own.)
The real problem for the Democrats is that there is nobody in the wings, period. Either left or right of Obama. The way it was supposed to work was there would be 8 years of Hillary, and then Spitzer and then Obama. But Spitzer self-destructed, and Obama rushed things, and now the Democrats are faced with nobody but an aging generation of leaders and nobody to replace them.
n order to join the US Military, you must either be a US citizen, or you must be a legal permanent immigrant, physically living in the United States, with a green card. The US military cannot and will not assist with the immigration process. If you are not a US citizen, you must legally and permanently immigrate to the United States first, via the regular immigration procedures and quotas, establish a residence, and then (if you meet the other qualifying criteria), visit a military recruiter's office and apply for enlistment.
As far as I know you can't be illegal and enlist. You have to have your green card."
I was wondering about this. I thought it was already the case that immigrants received citizehship for serving.
They do get on the fast track to citizenship but it isn't automatic. I think they waive the 7 year waiting period but they have to meet the other requirements. I fully support this.
Original Mike said... So what enlisted people does the DREAM act refer to?
Illegals that entered the country, then produced forged documents and lied under oath.
Good upstanding immigrants all...
Assuming what you say is accurate, then the inclusion of military members in the DREAM Act is sucker bait. We'll be told how heartless it is to be against giving illegal immigrants serving in the military amnesty but there aren't any serving legally. This is about the college students, nothing else.
I could be wrong here, but my understanding was that bringing up the DREAM Act was political payoff by Sen. Reid to Hispanics. That he supposedly promised them that he would make sure that it got brought up in the Lame Duck session.
I think that he can now go back to them and tell them that he did his darndest to pass the legislation, but there was just too much opposition. He can't make that go away, and did all that he could. And, that is all that they could expect of him.
The DREAM act would provide a path to citizenship for children who are here through no fault of their own. But I forget if we're supposed to visit the sins of the fathers on their children or NOT supposed to visit the sins of the fathers on their children. Does anyone have an Old Testament handy?
"But I forget if we're supposed to visit the sins of the fathers on their children or NOT supposed to visit the sins of the fathers on their children."
This makes as much sense as insisting Enron creditors can't sue Ken Lay because taking the money he earned through fraud would be punishing his children.

This is what happens when you let a guy with the nickname of Dingy Harry run your operation.
Harry Reid: "The Little Senate Majority Leader That Couldn't."
Heh.
Obama is certain to get a primary opponent now in 2012. The name being most mentioned is Russ Feingold.
Well, they're probably doing the right thing, even if for the wrong reasons.
The last thing we need is another massive amnesty.
The reason? Some of them are up for reelection in two years.
No me gusta! This makes me muy triste!
Senate Democrats cancel vote on DREAM Act
Racist bastards. Hating on teh Brown Peoples.
There a number of vulnerable senate democrats running 2012. Reid doesn't have any clout with these guys. Another democrat DREAM down the toilet.

I just masterbated.

Yup. Even worse (for Dems) is that 2012 has more Dem seats in play than 2010 did.

For God's sake, Titus. I cannot bear spelling errors!
Its "masturbated."
Get it right next time.

Obama can not be defeated in a Dem primary. Not when 30=% of the primary turnout is black and he would get 95% of that vote.
Likewise, no alternate white Dem can win the general after defeating Obama. For example what was te spread on the last Election? 52-48?
12% of that vote was black. Depress that to 6% and you ensure a GOP win
the mathematics of interest group politics where you are hostage to evry group.
