I have heard both Sean Duffy and Rachel Campos-Duffy speak at campaign events. They are a remarkable couple.
Duffy ran such a hard campaign, and ran it so effectively, and had such high poll numbers, that the DNCC essentially told Rep. David Obey that they would not fund his re-election campaign. Obey announced his "retirement" before the primary.
He is an excellent orator, young, energetic, focused. Sort of like Paul Ryan, if you've eve had the pleasure of hearing him campaign.
Campos-Duffy is very charismatic, and wonderfully engaging.
Old-school politicians, like Obama, are from the age of scripted television, with their teleprompters and reverence for stuffiness ("Behave when you speak to me!"). The new generation of politicians, seem to be more in touch with the aesthetic of reality TV, so it's no surprise this guy could win.
I like the ad I saw over on Ambiance better. A liberal was telling me how the Democrats did so poorly this year because of the unprecedented sophistication of GOP propaganda this year, and that ad was all I could think about.
Althouse likes to point out when people sexualize female politicians (horrors!), so I'd like to add that last night I was chatting about who the cutest male Republican was. Sean Duffy was mentioned.
Duffy was DA of Ashland county for how many years? But a brief stint on a reality show back in the mid-90s means that he will forever be tagged "Former reality TV star" . . .
I assume that's just the Democrat-controlled media trying to diminish his accomplishments.
And I agree with Haz. I've heard both Sean and Rachel speak. Rachel could be in politics herself.
The 7th District has finally shaken free of Obey's control, replacing an angry, bitter, combative old man with some much-needed positive energy.
When I was on Twitter, she actually started following me, which I found impressive. Not that I was that interesting, but I think it's great when politicians reach out and start listening to just kind of random people with different opinions. Corey Booker did the same thing.

Michael Haz,

Where's Puck? Is he running for something too?
Shit, if that's the case, then a Johnny Knoxville/Wee-Man 2012 ticket is just the prescription we need!!!!
Puck/Beth 2012!

Yay! I'm so happy for them.
