The Christianist in the White House — he's President of Jesusland.

Instapundit turns the tables on the Democrats and, in the process links to a post I wrote 6 years ago — not because I was doing 6-years-ago political nostalgia yesterday, but because linking to an old post of mind called "About 'Jesusland'" was a way to get to Ken Layne's original "Jesusland" rantings (which are no longer to be found on his old website).
I've never had a problem with actual conservatives ... But I've got a big problem with Jesusland. If you want to worship the ghost of a jew from the Roman Empire, that's cool. Enjoy it! But when you people and your bizarre mystery cult claim the goddamned president as your prime convert who rules by the voices in his head, I call bullshit.
That's Ken, not me. I add some commentary that may or may not have relevance to present-day politics.

***

Bonus: Ben Folds sings "Jesusland." A nicely done video, which I'm linking rather than embedding because it starts with a commercial. I'm not sure what I think about that song. Something about a young guy looking judgmentally at his society seems pretentious and annoying... but isn't it that what Jesus did?

But when you people and your bizarre mystery cult

In the last 2,000 years, more people have been members of the "bizarre mystery cult" than have not.

In fact, this author's views are fringe.

I say Obama is a NewAger. Regularly reading the bible, or going to church, doesn't change that. He used to go Jeremiah Wright's church - the same one Oprah Winfrey went to. Oprah offered to hold his first fundraiser at a Baptist church.

NewAgers respect no religion, that's why they're more than happy to hold reiki seminars, or yoga classes in Catholic basements, it's all about exploiting what the others have, and subverting what the others do.

If you don't understand NewAge, you'll miss the whole point of their actions and symbols.

This is part of our plan to appeal to all voters. My consultancy is paying off in a big way.

Also, I found another angle for our victory over the GOP. The GOP candidates that might create a challenge will not run in 2012.

Hence, Obama-Biden will win:

- Lack of good candidates in the GOP.
- Voters very happy with the Administration.
- The best media (NYT, example) is totally supportive.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/not-yet-great-race_519583.html

We therefore will win in two ways:

- Outright as we cannot lose to someone like Palin, Romney, or Huckabee.
- The people who may give us challenge will not run.

2012 is therefore a magic year in Presidential Politics.

You are saying that more than 50% of all humans that have walked the earth over the last 2,000 years have been Christian?

BTW - I really like this line:

If you want to worship the ghost of a jew from the Roman Empire, that's cool.

Puts the whole enterprise in perspective.

How sad it is to see obama relegated to pulling publicity stunts like this to "prove" he's not a muslim. What next, a pork eating contest on the white house lawn?

Liberals are not worried about this. They know Obama's religiosity is all cant and complete bullshit. This is a plus for them. Conservatives also know this is all cant and complete bullshit, but we also know it's a sin to tell a lie.

Lines like, "Jesusland", "If you want to worship the ghost of a jew from the Roman Empire", and "you people and your bizarre mystery cult", shreik how the Lefty atheists were calling themselves The Brights a few years ago, as if it really made that much smarter than everybody else. It is, also, an extension of the attitude that screams, "Look how smart and elite our nominees are. It just proves how brilliant we are".

Agree with JAY also. The "bizarre mystery cult" is, of course, the basis of much of the Western Civilization which has given them such a fat life.

As to Layne's comment about how Dr Rove got Dubya elected on fear, "Scare the bejesus out of Jesusland", we've had the discussion about who the real mongers of guilt and fear are.

2. "Hypocritically pious language"

So, it is a subsidiary meaning of "cant." Whatever, but it is indeed a sad thing to see the White House sink to this level of patently falsehood pandering.

I agree with AP. This is simply the start of the Obama Image Reset & Rehabilitation Tour.

I think he means Europe and the US.

In any case, I agree with Crack that The Zero's version of Christianity doesn't get in the way of his being a small c communist. He (Zero, that is) has long since admitted he started going to Rev Jerry's church for the political connections.

Maybe, but I don't think it'll play in Peoria.

Oprah attended Wright's church? I didn't know that. And yet millions of gullible white women pledge allegiance to every stupidity that comes out of Oprah's mouth. Oprah must get an added frisson to the satisfaction she already gets out of conning women, knowing that so many of them are debils.

Progressives and Obama reading the Bible:

Oh.Come.On.

Everyone knows it's okay because they don't really mean it.

JAL said...

See? Just read Tyrone's comment.

We're onm the same page, Slothrop.

RE Oprah -- I understood that she left Wright's church when he put the pressure on her for more $$$$$$.

And pre BHO, maybe she figured out it really wouldn't play in Peoria if some of the hate sermons escaped to the National Inquirer.

She's smarter than he is anyway.

She has to - but it's not like they make it difficult.

Wow. No comment as of yet from Sully. I would think that sort of overt proselytizing would have the spittle flying.

Whups. Sorry. Forgot about the boy-man crush thing...

Oh good grief. Nope, at least not on anything but the most superficial possible level.

Well, according to Jesus, he didn't have much of a choice.
