"If billionaire Alki David is an honest man, the man who streaked in front of Barack Obama at the president’s rally today in Philadelphia will be paid $1 million for his stunt."

The Weekly Standard scoops:
As the The Sun reported on August 17: "A WACKY billionaire has offered $1million (£638,700) to the first person who streaks in front of US President Barack Obama... providing the streaker writes the name of his website... across their chest"... within “eye-shot and ear shot of the president, they have to scream the name [of the website] six times, and they have to be nude.”
Not sure if I hope he got the 6 screams or not.

they used to have a big problem with streaking at sporting events. But then they figured out how to stop it.

They stopped showing them.

It was all about publicity and when that ended, the streaking mainly ended.

So, maybe we should follow the same rule, here?

Someone also hurled a book at the President, which should warm the cockles of Althouse.

Also, joblessness is stubbornly persistent, bringing joy to Republicans everywhere. They want to return to the same policies that got us here and offer ZERO different.

The TOTUS was unaware of this happening. Heads will roll, if they tell him/her.

Funny, but two things come to mind. 1) I really want to know what the title is of that book that was thrown (did it have an umbrella on the front cover?).

2) What three or four people in the secret service are going to loose their jobs over that debacle. I don't particularly like the administration in charge right now, but for God's sake, people, this is the POTUS we're talking about.

I'd do that for a million bucks.

ScottM, I'm not sure how they're supposed to prevent someone from throwing a book. Unless they ban books at such gatherings.

Re. the topic of the post: I wish I'd known about this $1 million offer. If this guy doesn't collect, is it still on? When is Obama coming back to Ohio?

I keep hoping (and poking around the political websites) that someone who works at a bookstore/publisher will recognize the book and post the title. It's a pretty distinctive (back) cover. Too bad we can't read the UPC/ISBN panel.

I think this is great - there's a depression on - so why aren't there more move-till-you-drop dance contests and other generous opportunities to win or do something for profit? With all the wealth floating around this country, there is absolutely no reason why rich people can't find enjoyable ways to share/dispense some to others without it being part of some earnest Bill Gates/Warren Buffet-style charity.

We should be doing micro-loans, investing in each other (on a larger scale) brainstorming, and getting things done. This kind of watching-everything-fall-apart stuff is bullshit. It's not us. Most people now-a-days don't seem to get it. I see it in many of the reactions to my "donations" banner - they cynically look down on me rather than seeing the potential good for all. It's stupid and completely the reverse of who we are:

Corny as it sounds, they should watch It's A Wonderful Life (at some time other than Christmas) and figure all that out again.

Way to go boxcam!

wv: "boxicra" (I'm not kidding) - where we'll live if these guys keep this up!

Didn't know about the book being hurled at the POTUS. Was it as funny as the shoe getting thrown at Bush? I remember a lot of chuckles expressed when that happened. Did Obama duck as well as Bush?

Possibly the same guy (see the Daily Mail's website), so I think there may be more to it than a website. And I don't see Ann's cockles glowing.

Also, joblessness is stubbornly persistent, bringing joy to Republicans everywhere. They want to return to the same policies that got us here and offer ZERO different.

Who's happy? Alpha's only whining that the small c communists are about to get the boot and the talking points he has are the ones he's getting from The Zero, which James Carville says aren't working. But then, Alpha wants to ignore that there would be new people who actually want to cut spending and taxes. That would ruin the Demos' day.

In any case, it would be no more than the Demos 4 years ago belching about a culture of corruption or a jobless recovery (they, after all, have written the book).

Clyde said...

The book SHOULD have been Beware The Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt!

I commented at length about those two stories last night in the last post of the day.

So, why the news blackout in the MSM about both stories? Do they just want to ignore anything that doesn't advance the Obama narrative? Isn't it pathetic that they only reason we know about the story is that a British newspaper reported it?

yep, someone threw the book at him (literally). Watch out next time at his rally they won't let you carry a book with you. Then it might some to shoes and then they will ask you to take off your shoes.

Should I ask what the charge will be? The article suggests that streaking is legal in Philly?

(Boy, that would have made Rocky a whole lot more interesting!)

Why don't we just raise taxes on wacky millionaires?

The MSM is finally starting to report the story (CBS, NY Times, NY Daily News), as of 11:30 a.m. Eastern. They were badly, badly scooped.

And I agree with AlphaLiberal. I think it is terrible that they threw the book at the President.

I mean jeez they don't even want to throw the book at terrorists who
want to murder us.

Seriously. A little consistency would be nice.

I was talking with a soon to be college graduate about how he can find a way to make money when most businesses are in a lockdown. He seemed totally unworried. He explained to me how a young man can now invent a Facebook computer system and become an easy billionaire. I quit trying to help after that.

I don't think you have been listening very well. .. about Republicans promising the same policies that ruined the economy.

Really? I'm the one not paying attention? Let's look at the failed policies Republicans would inflict on America again:

* "Trickle down" tax cuts for the rich. Check.
* Deregulation of Wall Street, energy, food and other industries. Check.
* No support for working people suffering the brunt of economic pain, like extending unemployment insurance benefits. Check.
* Disinvest in America. Check.
* Protect polluters. Check.
* Keep making war and charging it to the credit card. Check.
* Austerity for working people and largesse for the rich. Check.

How have Republicans broken with Bush-Cheney policies again?

Speaking of reporters, check out the WaPo story at Ace of Spades HQ. Now they won't publish a cartoon that doesn't have Muhammed in it.
Even Hamas/CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper basically called them pussies.

An Oscar Gamble reference from Trooper York. Gamble was the last batter to hit in Connie Mack Stadium in, I believe, 1971. He hit a walk off single, driving in Tim McCarver in the 10th inning. Oscar Gamble had, w/o question, the best afro ever worn by a Major Leaguer.

Oscar had incredible rabbit ears, followed closely by Ralph Garr. I would sit in the left field bleachers in Royals Stadium and ride Oscar mercilessly when he played for the Tribe. A black man w/ a 2 foot 'fro, w/ Chief Wahoo on his cap...ah the 1970's!

I am ashamed to admit, I made my future bride sit out in the bleachers a few days prior to our nuptuals in 90 degree heat while I quaffed beers and rode Oscar like a rented mule. She got sun poisoning. Our marriage has lasted so it was all good!!

@Alpha You have no basis for that assumption. I'm against any violence directed at any public figure. I don't think it's funny, and I don't think it should be encouraged by giving it publicity. I avoided writing about the streaker until I saw something I thought was worth it, that a rich man created the incentive. I'm actually sorry I wrote about that too, because I don't think it's funny and I don't want to encourage it.

Anonymous said...

I also think it's not funny. And I wouldn't be surprised if Alki David gets in some sort of trouble for offering the $1 million in the first place. What if a millionaire had offered $1 million to the Salahis to party crash the White House? Or what if another millionaire offers more than $1 million for something more severe than streaking?

I'd do that for a million bucks.

Every time I receive such an offer my first consideration is the taxes. If it's at current tax rates then sure. However, if it were after Bush's tax cuts expire, then by the time I figure in capital gains and the death tax there's really not enough left for my loved ones to make it worth it.

Don't you people see what letting the tax cuts expire will to the productivity of the American streaker?

Unknown said...

They use to ? Who is they? In Europe , especially the UK , streaking is a national sport (beside dogging)
In the USA, they are not showed since Morgana. And we know they were stopped because bloggers ( or they readers) post it
