Raised by Delaware. Me too, if you consider "by" to be direct proximity.
I greatly enjoyed the historical work, The Island At The Center of the World. It was a new history of New Netherlands, based on old Dutch records found in Albany.
That colony covered parts of Delaware, all of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut (to the Connecticut River). It is a facinating history.
One of the stories/theories were about Finns who were cutting down all the trees in Sweden, so the King sent them off to New Sweden which happened to over lap New Netherlands in South Jersey. The Dutch gave the Swedes da boot, but were impressed with the moxie of the Finns and sent them off into the wilds of Pennsylvania to cut down trees. The Finns kept cutting west, influencing the design of that most iconically American examples of architecture, the log cabin.
When the author explained this theory to his father in law (who was from Minnesota) his FIL exclaimed, "Everyone knows around here if you need a cabin you hire a Finn to build it."
I'm enough rasied by Delaware to remember, on more than one occasion, the family car being passed on Route 13 by the governor driving between Wilmington and Dover. The solid black license plate with "1" in the middle.
And the Candid Camera where they set up a roadblock at Foulk & Naamans and told people that Delaware was closed.
One might suspect that the eastern shore water men and women of Delaware were raised BY her. Make no mistake that nearly all the private sector natives were raised by DuPont, their cradle-to-grave, patriarchal saint.

Can Philadelphians apply too? Delaware is its suburban neighbohood with 2 US Senators.
If Mississippi gave Missouri her New Jersey, what did Delaware?
Campy: I don't know, Alaska.
I was raised by Delaware!
It takes a village.
I thought it had something to do with the French and Indian Wars.

That's the way most of the Delaware Valley sees it.

Off topic--
Dear Friends,
I have some very sad news out of Fargo, ND, today to share with everyone.
To those in the rest of the country and world, I must report the tragic news that Ole was shot.
He was up by the Canadian border on his 4-wheeler cutting some trees when some rangers looking for terrorists spotted him.
According to the news reports, the rangers shouted to him over a loudspeaker,
"WHO ARE YOU? AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Ole shouted back, "OLE..... BIN LOGGIN'!"
Ole is survived by his wife Lena and Lena's good friend Sven.
I was raised in a state that's by Delaware.
Truth be told, I dabbled into Delaware a few times.
But I didn't inhale.
I dabbled into Delaware once too. They weren't hiring.
One might suspect that the eastern shore water men and women of Delaware were raised BY her. Make no mistake that nearly all the private sector natives were raised by DuPont, their cradle-to-grave, patriarchal saint.
Meade: Indiana, shoulda guessed. She told me "Idaho" and I just wouldn't believe it.
Coketown: Let me guess - you exclaimed, "UtAH?"
