For 40+ years I have said that the Democrats won't get off their Depression Era thinking until they have a Depression of their very own, and I think it likely that they now will have one.
Here is my thread, it is going to be 106 here today, hottest day of the year. Going to see my 88 year old father on his birthday. Widowed 2 years ago, hasn't been the same since. My heart breaks a little every day for him.
I guess that's why I put my daughter in private school. Nothing like the basics. She is a great writer, can conjugate verbs in at least 2 languages, can balance her own checkbook without the aid of a computer (I can't even do that) and can speak in front of a crowd, with ease. She actually knows current events and can carry on a conversation with everyone from the CEO of a bank to a cab driver. Believe me the cab driver is probably her worst critic and the toughest sell. My husband was educated in public schools 40 years ago, when it was great. Too bad we can't scrap it and start over. Or, get those nuns back with the rulers. Sometimes the greatest motivators.

Yes, antibiotics always give parasites get "the creeps"
Maybe you can provide examples of why the Tea Party gives you the creeps. I'm betting you cant, because your distaste is programmed by the propaganda you've swallowed.
You've been trained to hate Goldstein, so you won't be able to explain the reasons why you hate him. You just know you are supposed to.
I guess that's why I put my daughter in private school.
Victoria, I would have guessed that you would be against private schools as elitists enclaves that are only established to get their privileged students away from the unwashed masses.

Why do we want one of our own when the Republicans hand us one ever 30 or so years...? huh?
No, the Demos always wreck the economy (CRA, subprime mortgages auto bailouts, overtax the producers of wealth...) and the military and national security. The Republicans always have to clean up the mess with sound economic policy (deregulation, lower taxes, cut spending...).

First as an Arizonan, I have to ask, what is the political sense in this.
The Justice Department's civil rights division sued the Maricopa County Community Colleges in Arizona, seeking damages from schools for having "intentionally committed document abuse discrimination."... On one hand, employers have been told they need to do more to verify that their workers are legal and authorized to work in the United States. Federal immigration law says hiring "an unauthorized alien" can result in fines of up to $3,000 per worker. However, another provision of the same law bars employers from requesting "more or different documents" than are needed to prove a noncitizen's legal status.
The share of the premium paid by workers jumped 3 percentage points to 30 percent. In the dozen years the survey has been conducted, the employee share of family coverage has never topped 28 percent and has never risen more than 2 percentage points in a single year.
In past years, employers typically have shared the increase in health costs with workers. This year, employers' contribution to the premium remained flat on average, the survey said.
The more we can get the consumer involved in cost considerations, the more when can push the price of healthcare DOWN

The budget blew up under The Zero, who spent as much in one year as Dubya did in 8. The recession is the work of Willie's subprime mortgages and Countrywide Dodd and Slobbering Barney's corruption. Is there anyone out there who doubts that MSNBC is Left wing?
If you want to know whether the mainstream news media is biased, consider the following:
Attacks against military recruiting stations have become an epidemic over the last five years. These attacks range from petty vandalism to arson and bombings. They are committed by Left-wing anti-war radicals.
The mainstream news media has completely ignored this. It's not even on the radar. Someone receiving their information primarily through the mainstream media wouldn't even know about these attacks.
Do you have any doubt that things would be different if Right-wing had been attacking, say, Acorn offices in the same way?
(Note: I'm not talking about the murder of Pvt. William Long in Arkansas at the hands of a radical Islamist terrorist, which did get national coverage. I'm talking about the steady drumbeat of attacks on recruiting stations by people who self-identify as Left-wing activists, which hasn't.)

Speaking of cool reflections, here is Zombie's take on "Proposals for an Educational Renaissance."
