"Go get it, Shelley!"

"She is ROCKING the shit out of this look."

"Shelley" = Michelle Obama... who is in Spain, where she is dodging racists, hogging not 30 but 60 (!!!!) ultra-posh hotel rooms, and celebrating her husband's birthday without the pesky presence of said husband.

She probably looks about as good (theoretically) as any average-looking woman that age ever will. I'm even prepared to defer to the experts and fans that "she's rocking the look" and all that...

and that makes me very uncomfortable because I don't think she looks good at all.

Maybe I should check myself in for body dysmorphic order or something.

The two outfits in which I really thought she looked outstanding were the purple dress during the campaign and the high boots with the black swing coat when they went out to dinner early on. That's it. That's all. The rest is usually a fashion victim disaster where I cover my eyes with my hands and peek through my fingers to see if its over.

I imagine her surrounded by flatterers and sycophants who know her nod will send their bottom line through the stratosphere - and perhaps there's a little bit of acting out there. I remember the first time they forcibly muzzled her during the campaign she stayed locked in the hotel room ordering champagne and caviar.

I'll believe those 40 dear friends paid their own way when I see the images of the checks.

FLS is really working for the cause.

Brian: The Spaniards are racists, haven't you read? And why would we complain if Bush made us richer by going to war to boost the stocks of Halliburton, "Big Oil" and "Wall Street." You, of course, were walking around with signs and puppets to protest instead of buying the stocks so we can see why you are stuck on stupid. But, actually, conservatives think it a bit gross that in the current economic calamity where one in ten Americans are officially unemployed that the "first lady" would swan off to a racist country at gigantic expense. Give us some examples of similar behavior by the evil wives of the evil Bushs you racist little shit.

"mrs whatsit, imagine this scenario . . . "

FLS, you don't have kids, I see.

RacistBrian: Hmmmm. Bush is white, and Mrs. Obama is black. Not hard to see the real reason why people are up in arms over her visiting a country that is a loyal ally.

Oh lookie, another Libtard playing the race card.

Go fuck yourself, racemongerer.

mrs. whatsit -- after 40, the importance of having one's birthday party exactly on one's birthday should have faded. Your family may be different -- your husband's celebration may still include clowns, ponies, musical chairs, and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey.

Further, next year, Obama's birthday celebration will feature black balloons and "Over the Hill" banners. So I imagine he'd be in no hurry to celebrate there.

FLS, as long as the party is for and about him, O won't care what color the balloons are. Besides, you don't really think that he would allow balloons in colors he doesn't want, do you? I don't think his staff would dare.

I have friends who, even in their 50s, are insulted at the idea of celebrating their birthdays on any day other than their birthday. Some people are just weird that way. I'm like you--doesn't matter what day I eat the cake. In fact, I like it when my birthday is celebrated on more than one day. All week is good, too.

And since when is the Spanish goverment our loyal ally? We remember how they caved to AQ after the Madrid train bombing? Remember how they became our nemesis?

The real Spaniards may be our loyal friends though. Remember how the King had to tonguelash Melonhead Chavez because the PM was too weak to do so?

Well, this thread is over -- but I do want to point out to FLS that, if caring about celebrating your birthday on the right date is your measurement of maturity, it looks as if the President still has some growing up to do. He cared enough about celebrating the Big Day on the Right Date that, lacking a family, he flew to Chicago to party with Oprah. I didn't hear anything about balloons or ponies, but they did hand out cupcakes at the White House before he left. Maybe by NEXT year he'll measure up to your specs.
