There is an iconic stretch of Vestas windmills that edge out into the sea outside Copenhagen. There are more than four in real life, but I think the video editors just chose the shot of the four because they thought nobody would notice.

As a manufacturing engineer I find it absolutely hilarious that the democrats think that they have done anything to improve US manufacturing.
With so many govt-related things in a freefall, I don't think it is wise to begin an ad with the words "This Fall".

It reminded me that most of the policies that I hated under Bush have been continued under Obama--no serious border enforcement, out-of-control spending, federal government micromanaging of local education, pressure on banks to make loans to minorities with poor credit, and endless, futile wars in the Middle East. Only Obama has added a bunch of REALLY BAD ideas of his own.

The Bush snippet didn't help the ad. In fact it was rather jarring. In fact, it gets even more jarring the more you think about it. Is the ad saying we shouldn't go back to the Bush era, or is it saying we should put an end to the current Democratic era? Bush was elected twice, whereas Obama's only been elected once. But then, Obama's not up for election this year, so...who's the ad really talking about? Maybe all those freshmen Democratic Representatives who rode Obama's coattails in '08?
The last 4 years have been a Democrat Congress, and the 6 years before that were a competition between the Dems And the Repubies to steal the most money under cover that they could before the Crash came that they all saw coming, but carefully agreed to mask with a Construction Bubble. Don't re-elect anything except Momma Grizzlies this time. Not W, not brother Jeb, not sock puppet Mitch and not Crazy McCain. They can all just go get real jobs and leave the USA to a real leadership that attacks our real problems instead of feasting off political slush money to build their life boats while the ship we are on is sinking.
George W Bush like his father before him is proving to be the model of what an ex-president should be.
He is dignified and silent on the controversies of the current day. He does not defend his actions or his legacy in the media. He is secure that history will be kind to him and acknowledge that while he might have been wrong he did not do anything out of malice and evil intent. Rather that his opponents lied and manipulated every possible controversy for political advantage, and then when they were in charge continued his most controversial polices root and branch.
George W Bush is confident in his legacy of service and devotion to his country.
I wish him well in his retirement.

I am in manufacturing and laid off 10 more people today. It is astonishing how bad things are out here for manufacturing.

CA wind power began to gin up in 1980-81 heavily subsidized by state and Fed tax credits/subsidies. Construction quickly peaked and began a serious decline by '86.
This is what the three best wind power locations in the world look like today. I drive through the Altamont Pass often and it makes me angry. As an Audubon member and participant in the annual Christmas Day bird count (great fun btw). I don't understand how alleged greenies can rationalize this to generate 1.2% of demand:
Altamont's turbines have since 2008 been tethered four months of every year in an effort to protect migrating birds after environmentalists filed suit. According to the Golden Gate Audubon Society, 75 to 110 Golden Eagles, 380 Burrowing Owls, 300 Red-tailed Hawks, and 333 American Kestrels (falcons) are killed by Altamont turbines annually. A July, 2008 study by the Alameda County Community Development Agency points to 10,000 annual bird deaths from Altamont Pass wind turbines. Audubon calls Altamont, "probably the worst site ever chosen for a wind energy project." In 2004 the group unsuccessfully challenged renewal applications for 18 of 20 Altamont wind farms.
Today CA wind power will generate 713.85 MW. Cal Iso's demand thus far today = 39280 MW with a peak forecast of 40227 MW.

I'm not going to watch the ad, because the premise is a lame one. While the legacy of Bush isn't a good one for any President to have to clean up after, sooner or later you have to move on and set the tone yourself.
Nothing has happened over the past 18 months or so to make me regret voting for Obama over McCain, but also nothing has happened to make me regret supporting Clinton over Obama in the primaries.
When they announced several months ago that they were going to run against Bush again I thought for sure that smarter heads would prevail and torpedo that strategery. So the alternative was The Race Card™ which has only pissed everyone off. So now they're back to Bush.
Is this really the only ideas the party of the elites can come up with? The media and pop culture bombards us constantly about how Republicans are uneducated rubes and rednecks who are affected by a mental disorder, yet all that massive edumacation and atom-splitting mindpower can come up with is this???

Not even close. He made some bad decisions, granted, but he was better than his father in many ways and certainly better than Willie.
As for the people surrounding him, Colin Powell was a big mistake, but Rumsfeld, in the first term, did a good job. In his second term, he made Reagan's mistake of letting his people pick their own jobs and it cost him the same way it cost Reagan.
9/11 made what would have been a mediocre Presidency a good (not great) one. Few CinCs have had to deal with what was thrown at him. He rose to the challenge.
Call him at the lower cohort of the good ones (and, yes, I'm the first to say he muffed the second term).

The first US offshore wind farm was just approved in April and hasn't been built yet.
But somehow they have "video" of it.
You'll also find this interesting-it was just published today:
Power company Duke Energy has called off its efforts to develop a small offshore wind facility in a North Carolina lagoon.
The company said almost a year ago it would build three wind turbines in Pamlico Sound to demonstrate offshore wind technology.
However, it said yesterday that analysis of the proposals has suggested permitting, design and construction are “no longer economically viable”.
As Rhode Island has found with its eight-turbine Block Island demonstration project, small offshore wind projects can be expensive for the capacity they provide, although in Rhode Island’s case other benefits were taken into account in last week’s PPA approval (see this BrighterEnergy.org story)*.
Duke Energy said to make a project worthwhile, offshore wind farms must be much larger in extent.
The company based in Charlotte, NC, said the high costs were demonstrated by estimates suggesting it would cost $88 million to get the first wind turbine operating in Pamlico Sound, with the cost falling to $14 million for the second turbine.
The Pamlico Sound location also meant for difficult construction techniques and a greater than expected potential for environmental impacts, it said.

When I finished watching this miserable 30 second spot the first thing I realized was that George W. Bush was the only politician in it. Where's Obama? Pelosi? Reid? Hillary? Don't they have anyone who polls in positive numbers?
During the spot they featured wind turbines situated out over the ocean, and that reminded me of the implacable opposition that the Kennedy clan had towards the Cape Cod wind farm -- it might have spoiled their view, after all, and sacrifice is only for the little guy.

I'm always kind of amused when a politician uses "Won't Get Fooled Again". The whole point of the song is that both sides are the same, and the people promising change are just as bad as the current lot.
Whether you're in power or in opposition, it doesn't paint you in a good light.
I don't understand these internet ads. Do enough people see them for the ads to have any significance?
As to content, I thought it was typical until the jarring insert of Bush at the end. I did not think it fit. It was a gratuitous shot. But then, I like Bush.
Also, I was astonished at the poll results. About 98% of the substantive responses (not the guitar stuff) were pro-Bush. Is Ann's readership that conservative? I always assumed there was a mix here.
Bush had class, and democrats don't. Democrats couldn't own up to their own role in the housing crisis, the deregulation of banks, or their role in holding Iraq to account. So they are cowards.
But for the love of god, enough with the anti Bush sentiment already. They control govt from the presidency to congress. The buck stops with them.
WHat's even more tired and outdated than the race card, frankly is the Blame Bush card. And that's all the democrats, and Obama have anymore.
