"The most socially skilled among us — those who project the emotions they intend, when they intend to — are not wedded to any one strategy."

There are various strategies: "concealing (i.e., suppression), adjusting (quickly calming anger, for instance) and tolerating (openly expressing emotion)." Be flexible. For more social success.

Great leaders do this and do it well.

I used to think that this was a "well, duh" sort of thing. It requires two steps, really. Being socially aware enough to read the effects of your interactions with people (second by second) and changing tacts if necessary midstream. However, I know quite a few people now that I would consider socially blind to other people's reactions. Of course everyone has some social radar to some degree, but those that are particularly adept at navigating those tricky human emotions need to be very socially nimble.

PS - as a male, the more socially nimble you are, regards of physical attractiveness, the more you get laid (if that is your wont). Having exterior plumbing, I'm not sure what it does for a woman ;)

Not me, I'm afraid. The Blonde has no trouble reading me like a book.

Very often a Daffy Duck comic.

Intention isn't real, unfortunately for the scientific analysis.

Intention is a marker used in accounts, never a present experience.

Showing emotion is stylized and strategic, say a way of getting your way.

I'd recommend maxims as counterplay.

You mean being angry all the time ISN'T the best way to show you care?

Maybe the answer is that Obama is a learned deceiver about the outward expression of many things, not just his emotions, like suppressing his socialist philosophy to preserve his electoral viability, so it just comes naturally?
