Ambiguous signage alert. Does that sign mean news applause for the foxy lady named Sarah Palin? Or is it a snide flipping of the bird at O'Reilly for too much evenhandedness?
Oh, I think it was sincere. I thank Fox News all the time! Thank God for them, to give us an alternative to old media, or drive-by media, or government-run media. Whichever.
I was at the Tea Party rally in Milwaukee; the cop I asked estimated 1,000 people, the reporter from the Journal-Sentinel guessed a few hundred, I'd say it was a minimum of 500 - 700 when it started, but after two hours in the cold and rain, the crowd thinned down quite a bit.
I would say it's probably sincere, thanking Fox News for telling the Tea Party story the way it really happens, by showing the Tea Party people as they really are. Regular people who feel that government is getting away from them - the government that is supposed to be first and foremost of the people isn't anymore.
I would like to thank Fox as well. Anybody remember how barren and one-dimensional the news media was in, say, 1989? I got my National Review every couple of weeks, and endured Sam Donaldson so I could hear a sentence or two from George Will.
Now, happily, it really doesn't matter who anchors the CBS Evening News or what s/he says.
Good lord Ann sometimes I really do think you're trolling for comments with posts like that. If it's not sincere then it's idiotic. Fox news is probably the single biggest reason (outside of "the internet") that the Tea Party is what it is. Along with the Wall Street Journal they are the only "major" media that gives them reports on them in a (yes I'll say it) fair and balanced way. So there. lol
If everybody sold only the government Merlot, I'd thank Thunderbird for their fine wine.
Apparently, CNN went to a Tea Party and found out why CNN has no viewers. And what to do about it: Report the truth and leave the sexual innuendo to the juveniles.
The Tea-peeps with Palin and Michelle Bachmann with Hannity on Fox at this very moment. A conservative rally in Minnesota there. It's quite large. You know, that Hannity guy can be mean sometimes there. And Palin there is articulate as anybody I've heard. There. She's gotten a lot of practice there, and I'm listening but I'm not hearing any extra theres there. Not a single one. So there.
Why would it be sarcastic, Althouse? Boy-o you are new at this, aren't you? Conservatives love FNC. I know some who watch practically nothing else. Chris Wallace gave me a Fox New pin in St. Paul in 2008 and I wore it until it broke. Sarcastic? I can only take your question as being sarcastic. Yes. That has to be it. Fox News. Is there anything it can't do? It is so great, it can even pose as a sarcastic quip. Thanks Fox News.
I have a good conservative Christian friend who proudly wears a t-shirt that proclaims, "Thanks George Bush". And I have another friend who is an atheist contrarian cynic who told me that he wants to buy that same shirt and wear it as sarcasm. We know the intentions of the message when we know the messenger.
Oh, I think it was sincere. I thank Fox News all the time! Thank God for them, to give us an alternative to old media, or drive-by media, or government-run media.
Absolutely sincere.
Just think. Without Fox News and the Internet... what kind of pablum the news media would be feeding us.
Think back to Walter Cronkite. When he said "And that's the way it is." We actually believed him.
It wasn't "the way it is". They were feeding us a pack of coordinated lies.
Without Fox News, we would be force fed government propogana. At least we now have more than one source of news to sift through and make up our own minds.
Wow, thanks O1M! I never noticed that Fox news could be called "Faux Noise" before! That is sooo clever! I just wish I had a t-shirt with Faux Noise on it so I could wear it there everyday. -CP

Um, do you remember the period between 2000 and 2008? Fox News was THE government propaganda network. They got talking points directly from the Bush white house. This has all been verified. They toed the administration line far closer than any body. They were the establishment.
Now they are just the voice of the Republican opposition.

Maybe it's a response to Senator Coburn's remarks?

I vote for sincere, since it is paired with a "Don't Tread on Me" flag.
Uhhhh...sincere...obviously
