Yes, I'm beginning to understand how deeply disturbing the Tea Party is to those who are used to seeing themselves and people they identify with in the media. It hurts to realize, these are the Americans that populate the great expanses of our country. You try to forget about that most of the time, don't you? You want to collect their tax money and do things to/for them, but you don't want to have to look at them, do you?
You've come a long way Ann. From posting countless stories and pics of anti-war protesters on your blog, and letting them get pummeled to hell in the comments without ever questioning whether it was fair , to becoming a protester yourself. Now you don't think it's fair.
Ann Althouse opines: It hurts to realize, these are the Americans that populate the great expanses of our country. You try to forget about that most of the time, don't you?
Please. The partiers are useful idiots for those who, whether they personally despise them or not, don't have their best interests at heart. For just one example, Grover Norquist. He was a speaker at today's DC event and his group has been involved in various TP efforts. And, as described at the link, a few years ago he sat right alongside the leading far-left lights (ACLU, NCLR, etc.) and supported amnesty.
Those people pictured aren't taking him and those like him on, they're helping him and those like him.
It's not like I don't have other things to do, but:
Their movement is only concerned with what's good for the partiers' themselves; most seem blissfully unaware that there are other people in the U.S. and those other people might disagree with them. In fact, the partiers are more than eager to call anyone who disagrees with them a socialist or imply that they aren't patriots.
It's that that gives their movement its most noxious character, but the Dems have mishandled it - irresponsibly so - by calling the partiers racists instead of taking the easy step of showing how their ideas (to the extent that they have any) are wrong.
For an example, consider the "spread my work ethic" signs many of them carry. Millions of Americans are unemployed, and that sign is implying that the unemployed are lazy welfare bums. That's not only incredibly offensive, it's anti-American.
The alternative would be for the partiers to give a flip about others and to try to alleviate unemployment by, for instance, concentrating on immig. enforcement. By doing that they could do a public service for millions of their fellow Americans and act like real patriots. And, by doing that they'd also undercut the Dems and the MSM.
But, they can't and won't do that. Instead, all they can do is throw tantrums, whine, wave loopy signs, and play dress-up games like little kids.

Unlike Democratic politicians?
Tell you what, the only people who have your best interests at heart are you and, may be, your family. Ergo, less money to the "dogooders" and keep more for yourself and your family. Ergo, take care of your own health, don't let politicians take care of you. They will take care of you the way Al Capone takes care of his enemies. Ergo Tea Partiers, useful idiots or not, want to keep their money. Ergo, fools who believe in "hope and change" are either stupid or spongers on other people's wealth.
Another problem partiers have is that they're complete, absolute idiots. Oddly enough, they share those traits - and many others - with RonPaul fans.
Like RonPaul fans, one of their tricks is to demonize their opponents and misrepresent their positions.
Like RonPaul fans, they don't know that criticizing Pepsi doesn't necessarily mean you're a Coke fan. You might prefer Shasta, or you might pine for scientists to invent something entirely different.
Like RonPaul fans, they're steeped in libertarian ideology, something that's internally inconsistent, vastly unpopular, and that would have huge side-effects. It would make the U.S. a worse place to live, reducing the quality of our infrastructure and increasing social strife. If Randroid plans were implemented we'd probably end up with talk of "land reform" and the rise of an actual Socialist.
Needless to say, "ic" is a good example of the problems that partiers have.
These people are so incredibly dumb it's unbelievable.
Gees! This is one crackpot site I just wandered into!
Are you the same people who have heroic portraits of the guy who flew his plane into the IRS bldg and killed a worker or the doofus who killed the D and E doctor (Uh, that's an "abortion" MD to you all.) Wow, which of you really could lead this country? Did you party on when Senator Kennedy died?
I have worked in medicine my whole life as a nurse practitoner performing the same functions as a family practice doc but not the pay. Doctors "couldn't survive" on the wages I made. I have given and given (I now live in one room in a basement for $1,000 with my service dog. but I am NOT ON DISABILITY because I still work despite the overwhelming disese I have.) and would give every last dime I have to take care of the disabled, the elderly, the poor. And I am an atheist who chose Jesus Christ as a role model. I see absolutely no Christianity here..just hate and venom. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Go home and make a difference in your neighborhood. Take the elderly man next door to his doctor's appt (if he still has a doctor on Medicare...they are disappearing...but OMG, don't have a public health option!) or make some meals fo your disabled neighbor or some couple with Altzheimers. You look foolish with your misspelled signs and derogatory pictures. Shame on all of you...especially you Ann. BTW Ann, my husband committed suicide last year and you don't have a clue what that is all about (referring to your video in the NY Times). You are not a nice woman at all. In fact you are a true bitch who talks about things you have no intimate knowledge of.

Uh... you misspelled Alzheimer's. And left out the apostrophe.
I'm tempted to be much more of the bitch Helen says I am.

Clearly racist and homophobic. F
Surprise, surprise. A bunch of angry old fat white people.
How uncool.
". . . angry old fat white people."
"Uncool."
Once again proving that liberalism is principally a fashion statement.

Annie,
How do you not know that I am a conservative pretending to post as a liberal just to wile you up a little? (Like I just done.)
And Ann, just because you are a old fat angry white person does not mean that we won't take your taxes. In fact, you should pay double.

Looking at that bald guy in shorts...hmm... maybe Althouse is right after all.

Yes, white, old, male. Especially the one with the pink (fuschia?) clogs.

Actually, there are plenty of families with young children at TP events. My grandsons have been to two.
Antiwar demos have the same racial and age demographics as TPs and are perhaps a bit unhealthier on the skinny, pierced, tabooed side.
Note that underweight persons have a higher death rate than overweight (but not obese) persons.
Tea Partiers are definitionally lest racist (since they are less obsessed with race) than the commies in the vicinity.
They are cleaner and better groomed than lefty demonstrators and they don't leave trash around like lefty demonstrators.
They seem to be enjoying themselves more as well.

That would have worked better if hadn't been followed by that little stream-of-consciousness routine, Helen.
Oh, and if you're actually a Republican trying to make the left look bad, my apologies. Good show! :)
That was hilarious, Helen.
WV: mullot
What's on the back of Helen's head.
And now you know: even an atheist can be a Pharisee.
You are not a nice woman at all. In fact you are a true bitch...
Are liberals born without an irony bone? Just askin...

Helen, the Althouse I know is a very nice person. She was directly very helpful to me when I had a disabling "disese."
People like Althouse don't need to brag about their generosity of soul. Shame on you for mischaracterizing her bountiful spirit.
BTW, we didn't dance when Ted Kennedy died. We left that honor to the Kopechne family.
Oh. And I am a bitch.
(Almost forgot to mention that.)
Grrrrrr. RARRRR.
