"What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?"

"Save the country from trending toward Socialism!"
The [PowerPoint] presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said...
One page, headed “The Evil Empire,” pictures Obama as the Joker from Batman, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid are depicted as Cruella DeVille and Scooby Doo, respectively.
Okay, now, that's just terrible. Everyone knows that Republicans can't do humor. But. And this is a big but. How do you depict Harry Reid as Scooby Doo? I did a Google image search and got nothing. Pelosi as Cruella and Obama as the Joker I've seen. But what's the Harry Reid Scooby Doo? Is it an audio joke connected to the last 2 syllables of his name?
The small donors who are the targets of direct marketing are described under the heading “Visceral Giving.” Their motivations are listed as “fear;” “Extreme negative feelings toward existing Administration;” and “Reactionary.”

Major donors, by contrast, are treated in a column headed “Calculated Giving.” Their motivations include: “Peer to Peer Pressure”; “access”; and “Ego-Driven.”
Rut roh.

But wait. Top donors were there for presentation. Driven by ego and benefiting from access, apparently. And — gasp! — able to laugh at themselves. Nooooooo. Not possible! They are Republicans!

Well its a jolly old time. If we laugh at them and the GOP..well it is contagious...they get in the spirit of it and let out those wonderful belly laughs that we so associate with this mob.

Selling access only works when the government regulates.

That would be the point of regulation.

The talent to manipulate people out of their money is a profession called fundraising. The goal is to adjust the message and the approach to different people's weaknesses. It is a form of lying. But the ends justify the means from the Red Cross on down. A popular leader that inspires support is SO valuable, if we want to rely less on this Craft of Fundraising.

What's really funny about this story is that it is the Washington Post complaining that Republicans "caricatured President Obama as the Joker."

If you turn the page, of course, to the Op/Ed section, you can see the cartoon that the Washington Post uses to caricature Republicans.

I mean, you can't make this shit up.

This is standard operating procedure for pussies. Here's how pussies operate: They complain about the very tactics they themselves use against others.

The Washington Post runs an Editorial Cartoon daily lampooning Republicans.

And then they complain and try to make it appear as if such a tactic is somehow unseemly when it is employed against their boy in the White House.

Laughable.

Memo to Democrats: "There is no crying in baseball."

Nobody respects a whining pussyboy. Nobody.

Obama should send the Washington Post a nice note telling them to stop, please just stop helping him. They're making him seem like the world's biggest pussy.

NewHam: huh? wha?

Fen: Newham is a mertrosexual bitch who abuses animals.

NewHam: wth?

Fen: Since Newham has such a filthy mouth, I'm justified in being just as filthy back at him

NewHam: Dude, I never called you anything.

Ann: Now boys, both sides are guilty, play nice.

Newham: @!!$$

[...]

Wtach for it. You'll see the Dems play this card over and over again. The most notable in my memeory is Obama accusing protesters of being violent just before he sicked MoveOn and SEIU goons to beat them up and bite off their fingers.

And yes, I'm radicalizing. Any honest Democrats left still staring down at their shoelaces are just Little Eichmann's to me.

@Garage,

You know Garage, I didn't used to be very political. I went to work, I paid my taxes, I came home, I played with my kids, ate heartily and slept well only to rise early the next day and do it again.

And then, one day, a community organizer came to my door. He explained that I wasn't contributing to my community. He told me I needed to get involved, and to get up in their faces and punch back twice as hard and to ridicule the other side at every opportunity because, you know ridicule is the one weapon man has no defense against.

He gave me this book by Saul Alinsky and told me to read it.

So, I decided he was right. I quit my job and stopped paying taxes. I decided instead to get political and ridicule people because they have no defense against ridicule.

And I thank Barack Obama every day for opening my eyes to understanding how the methods by which he got elected.

Obama meeting with his party leadership.

Obama (standing over Stupak with a bat): A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiasms, enthusiasms... What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles. Part of one big team. Bats himself the live-long day, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and so on. If his team don't field... what is he? You follow me? No one. Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? I'm goin' out there for myself. But... I get nowhere unless the team wins.

BTW, Reid is not like Scooby at all. Scooby is loyal and trustworthy and smart. Reid is none of these things.

Republicans tend to be dorky and behind the curve when it comes to this sort of "humor".

Of course, years of Bush=Hitler and leftwinger images portraying Bush with a Hitler mustache, have framed my judgment.

Perhaps more like country club types on the order of Michael Steele don't do humor. Reagan was pretty good and Palin's learning.

Certainly the Lefties don't, either. As AprilApple has noted, certainly, the whole Bush/Hitler meme wasn't exactly worthy of Oscar Wilde or Noel Coward.

If I were to associate Dingy Harry with anybody, it might be Ebenezer Scrooge or maybe Lucy in Peanuts. Scooby is kind of lovable, if a bit on the dumb and cowardly side (come to think about it...). But Wile E. is a good choice; I imagine Harry uses the Acme Products Company Treasury of Pithy Pronouncements for All Occasions when he feels obliged to talk about how the war is lost and Barry's lack of Negro dialect.

MadisonMan said...

Despite all the vitriol being thrown, no one seems to have suggested something other than Scooby for Reid. And I agree that's a head-scratching choice.

Shaggy? Reginald Mantle III? Wile E. Coyote is a potentially good choice, I'll agree.

South.Park.Republicans...

SP runs the spectrum from base crudeness to political and cultural genius. They have perfected the art of melding the two with right-of-center sensibilities.

Any time I use the word "sensibilities" in describing something like this, I always get flashbacks to reading Rolling Stone.

I have an idea. Obama is Frankenstein, Pelosi is the Bride of Frankenstein, and Reid is uh, Scooby-doo.

Really, Reid is just too buffoonish and powerless to be a good villain.

I've noticed this for some time. Like the Clintons complaining about "the politics of personal destruction" when they were masters of it.

Also, at the outset of last week's summit with the Republicans, Obama as usual lectured the other side about not using talking points or grandstanding or taking cheap political shots when that's basically his modus operandi.

No friggin' way, Republican donors are cynical? What a meaningful contribution to the public discussion!

Sarcasm aside, this idea that liberals view Republicans as unable to laugh at themselves is silly. News flash: we couldn't care less. Liberals dislike Republicans not because they're humorless, but because GOP policies ran the country into a ditch over the past decade. What an inane comment.

Anonymous said...

Was it GOP policy to give mortgages to illegal immigrants with no money down? Or was that the Democrats' idea?

You know David, you're losing the debate because you toss out easily disprovable assertions such as these.

It was Democrat policy ran us into a ditch, but you're right ... Progressives in the GOP let them get away with it.

We're fixing that as quickly as possible by first getting the Democrats out of our fucking party and then removing Democrats from public office.
