I hope this holiday doesn't end up being commercialized beyond recognition. Groundhog Day is the one day when we can all pause and reflect on how much winter sucks. It is not a day to be eating pastry.
If I saw the 5th one down, I'd wonder for a second if it was safe to eat.

Haha. I like that. I didn't realize groundhogs looked so much like beavers.
A beaver cake? More like Valentine's Day.

As a guy I used to work with would say every Feb 2, "Thar's a varmint needs killin'"
The ground hogs are not in sight much except for TV in February. They make me think of sea otters in Monterrey Bay. Can we have a sea otter cake with sardines around the edge?

Very funny. I especially liked the bundt cake (#7). A very simple cake but visually interesting.

"Happy groundhog day, Daddy!" My nephew wrote his toddler son was the first person in his life to ever say that.
This gives me a chance to show you my own anachronistic seasonal pastry. Last night I made a bûche de février.

Frankly, I was expecting Groundhog Day recipes to look a little more like this.
I liked the simple and creative use of the Bundt cake and Teddy Grahams.
RT'd that on fb...

You can chomp like a champ.
WRONG. I have celebrated GHDay irreguarly since whenever I started, and the traditional meal is sausage.
For obvious reasons. Well, obvious to me, anyway.
