"I can tell you the only true happy moment in my life was when Jude was born."

"He was all the love I ever had in my life. He was the only thing that made me feel life was something of beauty, ever."

Note from a failed suicide/murderer.

ADDED: "Jesus said it's a sin to murder. He also said to follow him you to have to lay down your life for your brother. I hope he understands."

That certainly seems like a good reason to kill him.

What's there to talk about? The complications, consequences, contradictions, and inconsistencies that emerge after adultery and divorce, maybe?

Losers all around. In many ways, that kid probably never stood a chance.

What's the big deal? What about a woman's right to choose??

If a woman wants to have a 36th trimester abortion, that is her business and no one elses.

I can't find a word that perfectly describes this psychology. Narcisism, egoism, egocentric, depression; they all miss the mark a little.

The person who cannot get outside themselves to escape the paranoia, and constant attention to their own plight with virtually no ability to see the positives. Whatever it is, I think it's the most dangerous of human psychologies. At best it leads to depression, but very often to murder.

So, is she insane or did she decide to do something extraordinarily evil? Guess we'll know after they evaluate her and search her house.

What a horrible, horrible thing. Poor, poor boy.

The story nearly seems to indicate that the reporter who called the boy's father for comment was the one to break the news. If that is what happened, that's pretty awful.

This will be a troubling matter. Our "justice" system (which really is a processing system)cannot and will not take any immediate action that could be considered punishment. It is apparent she murdered her own child. Yet, she will be hopitalized and recover. But, this is insanity, is it not?

Is our system, which stresses procedure as safety, better than the stoning she might have received in another time or place?

I'm trying to remember the last mother executed for killing her own child. Help me here.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe said...

What. The. Fuck.

Shit, kill yourself and leave a bequest for the kid. Yeah, that's shitty to do, but at least the kid is alive.

Lot's of people who aren't heirs to a fortune do fine, despite parents who were less than perfect.

First comment here (although I've been following this blog for a while).

Without wanting to reduce anything of the horribleness of the crime this woman committed, I would be interested in learning more about the father. What is the story behind him not having had contact with the child or his ex-wife for over a year? How hard had he fought for custody, or at least the right to maintain contact with the child? Why did he live on the opposite coast? How come the woman was stuck with the care for an autistic child by herself, in a foreign country, possibly without any family members living nearby? (This may very well have been her choice but on the other hand, uprooting an autistic child to a country where a different language is spoken -- actually make that two different languages -- is not so easy.) Was it perhaps convenient for the father to live his own life without an autistic son in his daily life?

Maybe I'm wrong and possibly he did everything he could have done, but raising an autistic child presents extreme burdens and it seems that these were borne by only one of the parents.

What really irritates me is the conceit of deciding someone else's life isn't worth living. How the hell can you know that? Especially for an eight year old?

I can understand deciding that your own life is pointless, but leave other people out of it.

Bender said...

Yeah, it's the dad's fault, naturally.

His and George Bush's.

bagoh20 said...

Judging by her actions and words here, I doubt the father is the problem. Her and the system that gave her custody? yea.

Isn't killing the child a way to viciously attack other people? Killing yourself does that too. It's an unanswerable act of hostility to anyone who loves you or even anyone who was in position to help you. To kill a child... that hurts other people even more, and then by suicide you escape punishment.

bagoh20 said...

Exactly Ann, Suicide is the ultimate passive aggressive act. Killing someone with you is passive aggressive-aggressive.

Can any of us honestly fathom what might motivate a cracked mind? Even if we later get to hear what this woman was thinking at the time, how can the sane possibly understand?

Freeman Hunt said...

She may not be insane at all. She may just be someone who has chosen to do a very evil thing.

I notice that when a man does something wrong, people say, “That dirty bastard”. When a woman does something wrong, many people say, “What did he do to her to make her do that?”

Mark O said...

I suppose once you get past the fact that this woman killed her own son, you can begin to talk about the viciousness of the act as it relates to unknown persons with unknown feelings. We can talk about how this disturbed woman has "lashed out" against her own parents, against global warming, against her obviously wretched ex-husband, against the wind.

She didn't attack anyone except her own child.

Sad and disturbing. First the oyster getting the slot machine handle pulled in it and now this; Days of our Lives blog is getting to be a bumpy ride. Reminds me of that consort who killed her 8 children in the Fuhrer bunker; what had the children ever done? Sure everybody has aggression and narcissism, and 'they're gonna do something' but, heh, let them do it and face God themselves. I guess Jude had 'done it' by not making her mother "happy" anymore.

Yes, she is a sick puppy and, yes, she probably ought to spend the rest of her life under some kind of restraint. Regardless of how you call it -murder, manslaughter, or whatever - this isn't your usual cutthroat. Whether she goes to Sing Sing or Bellevue, the effect is the same.

Bellevue is probably better since some lawyer can't get her out on good behavior.

That was Magda Goebbels, wife of the Propaganda Minister and unofficial First Lady of the Reich. She despaired of her kids growing up in a world without her beloved Adolf and figured they were better off dead.

This is what cult of the personality does to some people.

Never trust a woman named Gigi This Gigi was another spoiled brat that thought that everyone exists for her. Jude did his duty for the psychopathic needs of Gigi. Now she will likely walk with minor time because everybody loves a Gigi. If her name was Gaga, then she would get tried for murder one with the death penalty sought.

@ Mark O...read the play Medea by Euripides. Killing their children is a political expression by a women at war with a man. So she only killed the child, but she loved him. Her target was the child's father. That is what we now call a disfunctional family.

Being that she is a she, it would be Bedford Hills or Bellevue. Or possibly Bedford Hills or Pilgrim State.

Can you imagine what was going through the mind of the journalist writing this piece? Paragraph after paragraph of sorrow and pain and Kah-blooey the journalist chooses to throw this in.

As part of the graduation requirements for Journalism schools (and jobs) to these monsters have to have a soul-ectomy?

So, the inate desire of women who hate men is to kill their children? Is that why Ann went right to this and I missed it?
No wonder the courts like to give custody to women. Population control?

Freeman, I honestly think that some people just don't want to believe that evil exists anymore than they want to admit that God exists.

Can any of us honestly fathom what might motivate a cracked mind?

Penny, you might want to check out the Showtime series Dexter. I started watching season 1 last night. It seems to be exploring that very theme. I'm not sure I'll keep watching because the premise of the show seems so amoral, but the acting is quite good IMHO.

Penny said...

Chicklit, actually I saw the first season of Dexter when they ran it on one of the national channels. For as good as it was, I didn't want to pay to see season two on HBO.

Some of us will see this woman as insane, and be saddened by what happened here. Some of us will see her as evil, and be outraged.

Personally, I am in the first group.

Mark O said...

Freeman, hanging is too good for her. But, think how many others would be viciously attacked if we killed her.

The discussion veered off track in the same way the legal system veers off track. She killed her own child. Is that not enough?

Don't let the dad off the hook. I'm a divorced dad of an autistic 8-year-old boy as well. I don't care how much the system screws you and favors the mom (it surely does)--you don't stop fighting to see and PROTECT your son.

You don't move to the other fucking coast.

This crazy bitch didn't go crazy overnight--you're telling me there were no advance warnings?

Caring for an autistic child IS very hard for one parent. It takes a bunch of absolutely lovely people to care for ours, but just to make sure my son gets to spend every possible moment with me (all or part of about 320 days a year), I bribed my ex with a settlement that calls for us both to agree to never live more than 5 miles from each other. It's in our divorce decree (some attorneys have marveled that I got it in there, but it's in there). Why this kind of no-move provision isn't required in most divorces is beyond me. Why do we make it so easy for one ex to take the child away from the other-autistic child or not? Why do we place the interests of selfish (and often vindictive) adults over those of children who need all the parenting they can get?

It's a crime against the child.

But if you're the ex getting screwed, you suck it up, you do what it takes to see your child. Unless this woman (insane or not, just the thought of her makes me want to shove the rest of those pills down her fucking throat) actually did lose her mind spontaneously, which I consider to be a vanishingly small possibility, this dad failed to protect his son. He will pay a steep penalty for failing that little boy--a lifetime of guilt and heartache.

I have no sympathy for him.

No, for example:

"Magda Goebbels, wife of the Propaganda Minister and unofficial First Lady of the Reich. She despaired of her kids growing up in a world without her beloved Adolf and figured they were better off dead."

Parents kill for a lot of reasons, not least among them the desire to spare their kids the harsh reality they've endured, or witnessed, as well as the desire (usually seen in men) not to have them raised by those they see as depraved, cold and/or inhuman. As this woman said, she loved her child, so I'd think she's reacting to the world around her - which puts part of the onus of evil on the rest of the world:

Needless to say, to a certain extent, this is a view I share.

The fact so many can now, after only a few generations, be comfortable with it can be chilling.

There, fixed it. But, either way, it's still a stupid statement.

Call me when you're old enough to stop thinking your beliefs have merit.

Word of advice to anyone contemplating murder-suicide.

Start with yourself. Murder yourself instead of someone else. Just because you and your life are fucked up, it doesn't mean you should try to take someone with you.

Murder-suicide, just do it in the right order.

former law student said...

In my understanding family murder-suicide works like this:

For whatever reason, economic, shitty life, messed-up in the head, the parent despairs and decides s/he's better off dead.

But who will take care of the children? Nobody can take as good care of them as the despairing parent. Better to kill them first so you can kill yourself without worrying what will happen to them once you're gone.

I am a long time follower, but first poster. Someone asked has a woman ever been executed for a botched murder suicide of her child? There was a woman executed in Arkansas around ten years ago in circumstances very similiar to this. She was a nurse who injected her children with barbituates, and then smothered them. After that she gave herself a shot of barbituates, and followed that with potassium chloride. Her mother found her passed out with the two dead children. She tried the insanity defense at her trial; when that was rejected, she asked the jury to give her the death penalty, and they accomodated her. Huckabee was governor then, and he really wanted to stop the execution, but the mother wanted to die. She is the only female ever executed in Arkansas, I believe.

Freeman Hunt said...

Based on the second article, sounds like there's a chance she's crazy. Suppose no one will know for a while.

Unless her note is released like the note of that one man who thought that police were sneaking into his room and turning off his alarm clock. Who was that? We talked about that here. In that case, it was obvious right away.

Peter Hoh said...

Quite a few signs point to psychosis.

Rick, I commend you for working the 5 mile rule into your divorce settlement. I don't know your kid, obviously, but I can imagine that keeping certain established routines -- and staying in the same school -- might be very beneficial for some kids with special needs.

Methadras said...

Again, I will ask. Why is it that when someone breaks, the first thought that usually enters their mind is to kill? Either themselves or someone they know/love? Is perpetrating death on someone a function of insanity or evil? Why don't people who crack, who think about killing when they crack, not think about killing themselves first? It's the child here that never stood a chance.

Peter Hoh said...

Methadras, first, I'm fairly certain that she cracked a while ago. Second, see the twisted reasoning explained by FLS at 7:34 above.
