Those chairs remind me of the first Men in Black movie. Have you tried leaning forward to fill out a form on the table while you're sitting in one?

Yeah, but I think they want people drinking and not writing.

Volume, volume, volume....

One of Andrew Sullivan's readers started off his letter posted on 05 Jan 2010 01:55 pm as such:

I realize you rarely get to travel in true "teabagger country" but here in rural Mississippi, there is an interesting phenomenon occurring that the Brit Hume brouhaha brings into clearer focus...

Don't jump to conclusions there, I am sure Andrew Sullivan visits "teabagger country" far more than you give him credit for.

We just have to call him on it.

Nice digs--is this a hotel?

Very nice decor. Looks like someone's house-- is it?

The outdoor patio looks comfy too.

The first picture is our hotel... the common area.

Ann Althouse said...

It would be a really cool modern house. Yeah, the patio/deck is v nice, with lots of seating including hammocks. Built around a big tree.

The second coffee, on a copper-topped table is at The Hideout on Congress Avenue.

I'm resisting the impulse to photoshop a beta in the water tank.

Here, have yourself a blintz.

I was expecting the first pic to be of the Althouse-fils place, showing the home decor apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Now we just need a photo of the evening cafeine-aholics meeting and it would be perfect.

That furniture, like Ikea, cease to inspire respect in proportion ;)

For some reason, I expected to see this when I looked out on the balcony.

hmmm...the second photo says it's no longer available.

Hotel Santa Fe, perhaps?

ron -- don't let a line of print stop you. Click on it.

I get the same notice as Ron.

The hot chocolat season has arrived around here.Just add Baileys and Kahlua and drink slowly.

Clicking on it shows a cup of coffee labeled "espresso" on a copper surface.

The occupancy rate for hotels in Atlanta is down 60% this year. The Austin area hotels should be nearly vacant this time of the year with many of the U. of Texas family in Pasadena this week too.

"Egg" Chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

Manufactured by Fritz Hansen Inc. They start at 6000 USD a piece, if they're not knock-offs.

Fred, there's something in those bags beside tea, I'm a-guessin'.

Lucky you. It's been more than a little nippy here for almost a month.

Of course, with highs in the teens, the geese are only now flying south. Either they believe everything Albert Gore, The Living Redwood, says or Daffy Duck is their travel agent.

Just remember to say Roll Tide Roll! this Thursday if you're still in enemy territory.

Wow! You guys are really modern!

Now that's a hotel room. We stayed at a mere Hampton Inn over Christmas and it felt luxurious...

This is as good a time as any to say

"Common area"? How could such an exceptional venue have a "common area"?

Am I the only one finding this humorous in that boutique-y Althouse funky lifestyle way?

Scandinavian moderne v. Cowboy kitsch.

Hey, when in Rome?

OK, coffee before and during round-up works, but you need goddam tin camp cups.

Hotel San Jose, right?

@Palladian The label says "Fritz Hansen," so they must be the real thing. They're really comfortable, and I've been enjoying doing my morning blogging sitting in one of these chairs. I like the low height of the seats. Very good for using a laptop actually on the lap.

Ann Althouse said...

@somefeller No. Near there though.

They work really fast in Texas ;)

Perhaps it’s the clean lines of this architectural work of art tucked away within the vibrant SoCo district. Maybe it’s the abundant light filtered through the canopy of oaks in the artfully landscaped Courtyard. Or it could be the absolute comfort and attention to detail found in each thoughtfully designed and technologically sophisticated room in this breathtaking boutique hotel.

I'd need a crane to pull me up out of that chair. Joint pain.

Go IOWA!!!! a few minutes left, they aren't choking. I'm about to pee on myself.

My alma mater.

I liked the pep band doing Holst The Planets Mars. Nice touch. Presshure!!!

That's what's the matter with the NFL. No pep bands.

I see that Jimmy has found the "Kimber Modern" website...

The real deal! Those chairs were designed for a hotel lobby and I like that hotels still shell out for good furniture for their lobbies/common areas.

They're wonderful chairs, and you're right, very comfortable, though my personal favorite comfort chair is Joe Colombo's "Elda".

somefeller said...

@somefeller No. Near there though.

It looked a little too Euro-style for the San Jose, which likes to go for a little more of a spartan/quasi-rustic look, but it's been awhile since I stayed there so I thought it might have changed its look and feel. But it has that South Congress (no, never SoCo for me, thanks) vibe to it, and as you say, you are near there.

somefeller said...

There is a nice streetside place near the San Jose where you can get tacos and sandwiches (or at least there was last time I was there). You should stop by there for an inexpensive meal and some pleasant people-watching.

Wait, either Meade has totally redecorated the shared Alt-Meade house and gone 70s Jetsons Ikea cool-clean in the process, or Ann and Meade are travelling and this is their hotel room?

Please let it be the latter.

I really need to catch up on the blogpostages.

Cheers,
Victoria
