"When these capitalist gods of carbon burp and belch their dangerous emissions, it's we, the lesser mortals of the developing sphere who gasp and sink and eventually die."

It's Robert Mugabe, lecturing the leaders at the Copenhagen.

And now President Barack Obama is there. He's saying, "The time for talk is over." Ironically, he's talking.

When someone says that people ultimately get the government they deserve, I try to imagine how the people of Zimbabwe deserved Mugabe. And then I get a headache.

Funny how environmentalism shades into socialism over time.

Given the exemplary environmental record of socialist countries, this make total sense.

And when the lesser mortals of older societies which by all lights and logic should have led humanity in developing by virtue of their age, but who because of their political arrangements have prevented them from developing beyond tribal organization, slaughter and consume monkeys they tend to contract SIVS which is HIV and becomes AIDS in humans creating and epidemic in which they're utterly unable to cope which eventually affects the entire globe which must then expend its resources to halt and to seek a cure and then send those resources below cost back to those nations refusing to develop lest they be wiped completely from the Earth. So the answer is to learn from our mistakes, stop your whining, and get your politically retarded and lazy arses developed.

Is there a cord in his back that you pull to get Obama and the teleprompter powered up for his canned speech?

Sadly, Mugabe missed breaking the all-time inflation record. Better luck next time!

That's it?

Great. Let's just give them the money, stiff China and move on to the health care debacle.

Mr. Buford said...

The Chinese walk out, and the president does two things he does so well; he makes an empty threat to people to do his bidding or else, and he threatens to spend other people's money:

'Obama warned delegates that U.S. offers of funding for poor nations would remain on the table “if and only if” developing nations, including China, agreed to international monitoring of their greenhouse gas emissions.'

Say what you will about the Chinese, but they know its there money he is putting on the table. Nice to see they and the Indians have not had their collective IQ's suddenly drop while in Copenhagen.

Environmentalism is becoming synonymous with Socialism via anti-capitalism.

So, now they're proposing a hundred billion dollar per year global slush fund administered by those stalwarts of integrity at the UN and directed toward third world dictators. What could go wrong?

Who wants to bet gigantic chunks of it are redirected back to left wing organizations, politicans and unions?

Who else wants to bet that not a fucking penny of it will actually go toward reducing carbon emissions?

"Why is that incompetent tyrants like Mugabe and Chavez can even show their faces at something like this?"

They can be relied on to rail against the United States and other Western nations?

Because, honestly, that's a fascinating question and it's one that suggests the follow on question of "And why should we listen to anything at all about anything at all that anyone says who invites and welcomes these murderous hacks to something they are involved in?"

Right there folks, we've got another good reason to discount the science.

Mugabe destroyed and starved an entire nation. Chavez is starting on a similar path, wrecking his own nation's economy and revoking rights to expression and speech, stealing land, and vilifying those who are productive.

And the same people who are telling US that they can be relied on to address issues seriously, to be dispassionately honest about the *science*, rational, logical, and all that... invite freaking MUGABE to talk about economics?

OH. MY. GAWD.

Who was it just last week.... last week Althouse linked to the guy... who said that the deniers MUST NOT BE ALLOWED to portray climate change as a conspiracy to destroy capitalism in favor of leftist policies. That making that sort of charge was illegitimate and fringe craziness.

And hey, I sympathize Garage. Mugabe doesn't = Liberals. But at what point do we expect the liberals to speak up against the extreme destructiveness of similar redistributionist economic policies?

Did liberals learn a lesson from Mugabe that they will apply to someone like Chavez?

Will they defend freedom of speech and expression in Venezuela? They have not. Will they cry an alarm that Chavez is taking his country down a well-known path of economic destruction and human sorrow? They have not.

I can't top Robert Mugabe lecturing the world on the damage done to his country by "progress."

So, since others already brought up DVR's and tape & MP3's:

I sometimes think it would be nice to have a VCR that could record digitial video, directly. Not a DVD recorder, or a DVR, but just a good old cassette. You didn't have to hold the cassette carefully to avoid scratching it. It was analog, so even if the tape got a little wrinkled, it generally would still play. And with VHS you can still take a tape that's been on the shelf for years and it will play fine. I know a DVD-R can do the same thing, but forever more you have to worry if the disc will get a scratch and just not play.

With the UN and similar, it was always thus. Around 35 years ago Idi Amin Dada (the literal butcher of Uganda) gave a speech at the UN in which, among other things, he stated that he wanted to erect a statue to Hitler, as Germany wouldn't do it. He got a standing ovation. It's been downhill ever since.

Frankly, it is embarassing to have our government officials like the Sec. of State give legitimacy to this blatant extortion by guilt. No "Third World" nation has ever had its status and condition raised by giving it tons of money, and Lord knows we've tried over and over again. The only demonstrated effective means to do so is capitalism, open markets and trade. Unfortunately, once this happens it is usually difficult for a repressive government to maintain the same degree of control (n.b. Hong Kong).

I vascilate between believing if HRC and her idealogical comrades are blindly stupid or criminally complicit when it comes to support of totalitarian regimes around the globe.

That threatens Chinese Empire who have sent Mugabe to challenge that plan. The Russian Empire under Czar Putin wants to scew it up until he can take hegemony over Europe and then be in a position to destroy China before China destroys him. The odd man out are the rude and crude Colonials in North America. To get some piece of the action Obama is shopping us to the highest bidder for cash, also called the Chicago way. In a sense, Robert Mugabe is a Greenie liberals dream leader.

First he shows the evil white oppressors and their excessively Westernized and too educated black allies in Zimbabwe whats what!

He shows other leaders that if they know what is right, there is no need to listen to the ignorant "wishes of the people". He used guns to subjugate, more enlightened Western nations use Eurocrats or Leftist lawyers or EPA minions or Wall Street fatcats to properly order and direct their masses.
(Extra points if you tell the masses they must love and obey the new EU Constitution, America's "Sacred Parchment", and various lawyers dressed in robes that win their diktats and decrees over the lowly proles in 5-4 votes - without question.)

Then he dramatically transforms Zimbabwe into a global model of low carbon use!

Now his people munch on free wheat and meat from evil excess carbon using nations like the US, Ukraine, Australia and Canada. Further lowering their carbon use in a sustainable fashion...sustainable that is, if guilty white liberal Greenies keep the free stuff coming.

And now he demands and gets pledges for more loot from guilty whites like Hillary to compensate for all the evil carbon burning nations...like the prosperous breadbasket of Africa his own former nation of Rhodesia - used to be.

Mugabe! What's not to like about this guy if you are one of the people flitting into Copenhagen on a Gov't Elite...or private jet...to lecture the world on its shortcomings!!

It had "and Palin" printed diagonally across McCain's name.

Had McCain been elected, based on how his team ended up feeling about Palin, she would have received much international experience - as McCain limited her official role to attending funerals for Ecuadoran vice ministers.
Unofficially, for her domestic duties, I imagine VP Palin would have been sicc'd on Fundieland as a fundraiser - and to take heat for McCains wanting to adopt tax and trade and Immigration Amnesty - along with his Dear Friends in the Senate.

Synova said...

But how much of that emerging bad feeling is due to the fact that McCain *didn't* win?

And she apparently had some sort of gentleman's agreement with McCain to be active in energy policy areas and also to advocate for the mentally disabled. That's what she *wanted* to spend her time on.

That's not to say that Palin wouldn't have excelled at diplomatic funerals.
