I'm impressed that it took 12 comments before anyone at Politico said that (or anything like that) after a report that Rush Limbaugh has been hospitalized with chest pains and is in "serious" condition.
ADDED: Much re-tweeted at Twitter: "The people calling for Rush Limbaugh to die are the same people who ask to control your healthcare."
AND: Rush Limbaugh has said on his show many times that once the government runs health care, there is a threat that life-or-death decisions will be made based on politics, and people will worry that if they criticize the government or espouse the wrong opinions decisions will go against them.

Gosh, I hope he's OK. It sure would stink to have heart problems after losing all that weight.
BTW, people who hope for others to die simply because they disagree with their political beliefs, even if they only express that hope tongue in cheek, are complete assholes.
"I hope he dies" says much about the poster. I remember praying for Ted Kennedy to live, and retire. But to live.
Trey
Prayers said for Rush Limbaugh.
I'd do the same for Barack Obama, by the way, had he been taken to the hospital. Humanity and compassion should trump ideology when someone is ill or injured.
Oh, man, he is such a masterful entertainer and radio host... I hope he pulls through.
Another jerk outs himself.
Trey
Thank goodness nobody around here would say anything like that that about, oh, Andrew Sullivan or Rachel Maddow or any of the other liberals that are always treated with the utmost respect and dignity by the Althouse comments community.
Very few people over at Politico are being mean-spirited, and you know there are soooo many people who would love to have Rush off the radio.
People are behaving well. Give them credit.
"It sure would stink to have heart problems after losing all that weight."
He lost a lot of weight quickly. That might not be the healthiest way. And you don't know what methods he used. They might have been dangerous.
Craig, stop back when Sullivan or Maddow are reported to have been taken to a hospital and see what is said by the non-trolls here.
Until then, don't presume.
Does it seem unusual to you that the news that he was rushed to the hospital and that he is in serious condition came out simultaneously? That is really worrying me.
Michael Hasenstab has it exactly right.
I don't know, Ann. Serious condition seems to be the new default condition. Tiger and his mother-in-law were both said to be in serious condition, only to be released in hours.
Hoping for the best for Rush.
Good point, Althouse.
Re: Michael Hasenstab- I've never really prayed for entertainers, but I do pray for the President, and other leaders, frequently, and I think that all believers should. Mostly, I pray for them to have wisdom and leadership, and to help improve lives.
One of the commenters over there wondered if his rapid, dramatic weight loss had anything to do with it. I hate to say it, but I know of two people who had fatal heart attacks after a quick loss of 50 pounds or more. One was Orson Welles, the other (known to me personally) was a great jazz guitarist named George Barnes, who was only 56. Apparently it can be dangerous to crash weight off like that.
"Serious condition" is the default setting for anyone with any type of heart issue, major or minor. The status will change as the diagnosis is made at the hospital.
Post surgical heart patients are described as "critical" for 24 hour or so, even if they are talking and breathing on their own.
The news reports are a bit confusing because the source of the pronouncement is not identified. EMTs and paramedics usually don't establish the condition, MD's do, so "taken to the hospital in serious condition" may not be accurate.
@amba Yes, people feel alienated from their fat but it is part of their body, and you can't just lop it off brutally.
Thanks for the encouragement about "serious." I won't take it seriously.
Pull through, Rushbo. We need you (for the laughs as much as anything else.)
The comments at Politico have gotten a lot nastier since this post went up. Skimming over them, it really makes me sad for humanity how many people have only hate and wishes for suffering, yet claim that this is OK, because (without qualification), Rush or "republicans" are "hate-mongers."
Some claimed that (unnamed persons that probably reside in their heads) were horrible about Ted Kennedy's death, so they have the right to be about Rush's suffering. Not only is this absurd moral reasoning, it is, to the best of my memory, completely untrue. Every major commentator I heard re: Kennedy had thoughtful things to say, and the commenters that didn't almost only tried to remind people that he was not a hero. I can't recall anyone wishing for his death, nor for his pain and suffering, as is mentioned quite a bit on the Politico.
Am I remembering that correctly?
The relationship between weight loss and heart attacks can cause an observer to draw a false-positive correlation.
An overweight person who loses weight could have heart disease that preceded the weight loss and presented after the weight loss. The cause may not have been the loss of the weight, but the years of carrying the weight (and the enabling habits).
"The people calling for Rush Limbaugh to die are the same people who ask to control your healthcare."
Truer words have rarely been spoken.
This twitter too:
Liberalism... Proving they are the culture of death one tweet at a time in regards to Rush Limbaugh!
The Politico readers generally have some class. There's a hate-fest on Twitter, though.
Ann, Rush was golfing. In Hawaii. Perhaps he is being punished for that. Do you suppose he would ever play golf with Obama? Just think of the number of things liberal commentators would have to complain about then.
Sorry for the irreverence. Just trying to cheer you up.
I'm sorry to hear this; I hope he recovers soon and quickly.
First prayers for Rush Limbaugh. I hope Ann and others remember some of the ugly posts she and her friends put up after Senator Kennedy passed. I am sure some unthinking liberals will do the same and will embarass themselves.
David, as a Rush listener I can tell you that Rush would love to play golf with Obama. Rush loves golf and respects the president, even though the political differences are substantial.
They'd probably both get a kick out of it, and a good round of golf.
When someone drops weight that quickly, how often is it in response to a medically based "lose weight or else!" either from a doctor or from the body itself?
Did he really lose weight that fast, or did it seem like he did because he actually lost it and because we don't see him every day?
I hope that Limbaugh is okay.
Even at my redneck breakfast diner here in South Carolina people don't cheer when liberals are in distress (other than politically.) Plus a few liberals hang out there and one of them is 6'-4" and about 235. But he has a sense of humor--a unusual and welcome attribute in a liberal.
People can say ugly things when cloaked and invisible on the internet. There are plenty of right wing jerks too unfortunately.
I hope he's OK too, but in case anyone would like to actually do something effective, track well-known people saying questionable things and then hold it against them in the future.
To repeat: in case anyone would like to do something effective, compile a list of well-known people saying questionable things about this, and then hold it against them later. Name them, then shame them.
There's a hate-fest on Twitter, though.
Thanks for that update.
Now, to do something effective, get the twitter handles of 20 people or so who a) have said bad things about the current situation and b) whose real names can be determined. Then, arrange it so those searching for their names - such as future employers - can easily find what they said when searching for their names.
The problem is not liberals hoping that Rush suffers or dies. The problem is liberals not knowing who their real enemies are.
IMHO, it's ok to hope that the truly evil die from whatever ails them. I hope every leader of Al Qaeda could die of a heart attack right now.
But Rush (or Kennedy) aren't terrorists. Democrats or liberals are not the enemies of Republicans or conservative and Republicans or conservatives are not the enemies of Democrats or liberals. They are fellow Americans with whom we disagree, sometime vehemently.
I see some conservatives who forget this, but a lot of liberals.
More liber
Men die off pretty early, thanks to those cloggable coronary arteries. Guys know the bell tolls for them, very often just as retirement beckons. Look around in a nursing home; mostly old ladies, and the occasional gent.
I hope the Hawaii docs treat him well. Sic transit cardia.
The "serious" is not in and of itself definitive, I seem to remember that's how they descibed Tiger Woods after his trip in an ambulance.
But heart pains can be a bad deal quickly.
I don't doubt that's effective, lonewacko, and even fair turn-about, but I think it would leave me feeling a little bit dirty.
Sort of the way Coffee Guy should feel a little bit dirty, or anyone else who tried or is still trying to make political hay from Kennedy's death.
Between HuffPo and the KosKids, there is enough evil in the world already. Best of luck to Rush.
How fast is fast in terms of weight loss? According to The Blonde, it can be tough on the system and/or a sign of diabetes, particularly in relation to age, how much was lost, etc.
lyssa, you nailed it. A lot of people will show their true in the next day or so.
Michael H, you're a class guy.
Craig said...

Criticism is not the same thing as hoping someone dies. Your position is like Katha Politt bellyaching people were denying her the right of free speech because they called her on the moronic remarks she made after 9/11.
Sully and Maddow have made a great many stupid remarks and have been criticized for them. That's what free speech is (I shouldn't have to explain this, but the Lefties just don't seem to get it).
I think Politico will have to disable comments like Huffington post does whenever any republican is in the hospital or is ill. The bile just spills over everthing and is ugly to see.
Wow. I have been offline most of the day and just heard the news. Then I went to the mail box and what did I find? This month's issue of the Limbaugh Letter.
I have wondered a few times what my world will be like when Rush retires or goes off the air.
Get well soon Rush!
BTW Anyone else find it fascnating that our two great protagonists [Obama and Rush] were vacationing in Hawaii?
Altouse: He lost a lot of weight quickly. That might not be the healthiest way. And you don't know what methods he used. They might have been dangerous.
Let's not forget he also had a hardcore addiction to Oxycontin, spending his commercial breaks telling an assistant how much of the drugs to illegally purchase for him so he could get his next fix.
I don't know what damage Oxycontin does to the heart. Perhaps a relapse could lead to an overdose and heart attack?
Anyway, I hope he comes out okay. Talk radio would be a lot duller without him.
BTW Anyone else find it fascnating that our two great protagonists [Obama and Rush] were vacationing in Hawaii?
It is strange. Pelosi is also there. Her husband owns a business there, I believe.
He is a reassuring and comforting part of my life....He is to talk show hosts what Johnny Carson was to late night comedians. He didn't create the format, but he defined it....I always felt that the known facts of his life were at variance with his jovial persona. Whatever drove him to such success drove him other places. As Tiger would say, you can't drive a four iron two hundred yards without leaving a divot...."The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." Also the ICU.
It takes only a moment like this to remind us all how fragile everything is.
As Michael Hasenstab said, we should pray for anyone who is ill. And we also should pray for their families.
This has really touched our household.
Slightly off-topic.
Just tonight, I heard the estate tax is not in force in 2010. The talking head said mortally ill people are literally trying to hang on to life so they don't die until the new year.If they can do that, theirs will avoid the tax which the talking head said can be as high as 55%.
I wonder what Rush's estate is worth? $50 Million or more?
Look at the right-wingers searching around the internet to find disrespectful statements about Rush's hospitalization, just to try and "prove" that liberals are evil. Please. Don't you know people get drunk and post shit on the internet without thinking, just to get their rocks off, or some kind of cathartic release? It's not to be taken so seriously. Right-wingers do that, too, ya know. Make an issue of it if it's some blogger or columnist wishing death. Leave the anonymous commenters alone. For all you know, a right-winger is posting something disrespectful about Rush under an anonymous name just to give you the evidence you're looking for. Like how the Little Green Footballs blog sent a commenter to Hot Air to post racist things to "prove" Hot Air is racist.
And, yes, some people will be happy if Rush dies. He's a very controverisal person and many people hate him.
I wonder if he was taken to the same hospital as where Obama was born. That would be ironic.
Synova: if trying to hold people accountable makes you feel uncomfortable, don't do it. However, you'll never get people to change by just letting them get away with it.
What I described above is what I attempt to do; for an example, see this listing. Each one of those links goes to another page, which in turn goes to one or more other pages where (in most cases, but not all) I show how the person listed isn't being truthful. The goal of that is to show up in search results for that person's name and let them know that they should start to tell the whole truth for once.
If reporters start seeing that the top search results for their names all point out how they lie, that will force them to change.
I'm somewhat circumspect about what I try to do because I don't want the competition, especially from those who'd use my techniques to fill the search results with content-free noise. At the same time, major bloggers are so incompetent that I don't need to worry about competition.
"And, yes, some people will be happy if Rush dies. He's a very controversial person and many people hate him."
And the same people who hate Rush and will be happy if he dies want us to trust them that national health care will be better for us all.
LoafingOaf: when I was younger, something happened that I've never forgotten after all these years. It was announced that an assassination attempt had been tried against someone, and one of the leftwingers of my age was beyond ecstatic about it. The person in question wasn't a murderer or a dictator, just a politician. A bloodlust against their enemies is deeply engrained in the far-left and found its expression in things such as the gulags. The same people who'd cheer an assassination attempt are the types who'd "just follow orders".
Look at the right-wingers searching around the internet to find disrespectful statements about Rush's hospitalization, just to try and "prove" that liberals are evil.
Do you not believe that wishing death on someone with whom you disagree is evil?
Please. Don't you know people get drunk and post shit on the internet without thinking, just to get their rocks off, or some kind of cathartic release?
Oh yes, we do know that......
It's not to be taken so seriously. Right-wingers do that, too, ya know. Make an issue of it if it's some blogger or columnist wishing death. Leave the anonymous commenters alone.
Leave them alone? So they (or you) are just here to post their (or your) bile and then want to be left alone? No, they (or you) crave attention, which is why you are here.
For all you know, a right-winger is posting something disrespectful about Rush under an anonymous name just to give you the evidence you're looking for. Like how the Little Green Footballs blog sent a commenter to Hot Air to post racist things to "prove" Hot Air is racist.
No. You are taking one instance and applying it to a large universe. Doesn't apply. In other circumstances it would be deemed racist or sexist.
And, yes, some people will be happy if Rush dies. He's a very controverisal person and many people hate him
Speak only for yourself. Don't project your beliefs onto others.

Are you sugesting they are flying Rush from Hawaii to Kenya to get medical treatment?? Jeez- no wonder healthcare costs keep going up and up! Heh.
Why is it so bad to wish a Kelsey Grammer or better on Rush? He had no sympathy for addicts in his time. He wished them dead. He's wished many people dead.
Perhaps you are new to listening to Rush?
It's only common sense that people wish him dead since he has wished it on so many more.
Your 'outrage' is laughable.
@michilines - either retract your comment or provide a quote from a Limbaugh transcript in which he wishes another American dead.
Since you said he "wished in on so many.." your task should be very easy to accomplish.
Michael, as you must know, Limbaugh was on the air for many years before the invention of the Internet. You must also know that one must pay for the edited versions of Limbaugh's broadcasts.
I don't have recordings of Limbaugh from 1987 until now, nor have I spent the money to re-listen to something I can hear for free.
Do you remember listening to Limbaugh before he got into his legal troubles with addictive drugs? Before he went into rehab?
Please tell me about how he thought people should get the benefit of the doubt about drugs.
Anyone who has been near death--or who has held a dying loved one--would not wish that moment upon anyone: not even upon their worst enemy.

There's a significant element on the right that pushes the idea that Obama is not a legit prez, not a U.S. citizen, but is instead a Manchurian candidate into communism (one local talk show host calls him both a commie and the Anti-Christ). Do you think some of the people who listen to that stuff wouldn't be happy if harm came to Obama? Please.
Anyway, people are allowed to hate politicians, and they're allowed to vent a little even if they go too far when doing so. Let the people breathe a little, including letting them get some of their hate off their chests.
And sometimes politicians are hated for good reason. Because, you know, sometimes they do evil things. And, while in general I'd say the way to deal with a politician you hate is to try and beat him/her in the next election, there have been politicians I wouldn't exactly cry over if they came to harm.
I'd have to know why the person you talked to felt so strongly before I could condemn it. But, he probably was just getting carried away for effect. You shouldn't assume everyone who says something terrible about a public official really means it to the full extent they said it. We don't always look at leaders as also being regular human beings, you know.
And politicans know there will be people who will hate them. It comes with the job. But sometimes they're hated because they deserve to be hated....
Anyway, there are probably liberals involved with taking Rush to the hospital and treating him at the hospital. It's possible that a liberal is saving Rush's life as we speak.
Irene, that's exactly my point. Limbaugh could do that in a whim wrt drug addicts before he had his troubles.
Is it any wonder there are people who may have heard him say that again and again and then lash out?
To me, it's understandable.
Limbaugh must answer for what he has said at some point. Why not now?
Limbaugh was on the air for many years before the invention of the Internet.
No he wasn't. The Internet existed long before you got your first MySpace page.....
Why not now?
Because it's not for us to judge.
@michilines - you are unable to answer my question, aren't you. You deflected the topic away from your original comment - that Limbaugh "wished many people dead" to a ramble about drugs. FAIL.
Your website is interesting. With just a cursory glance, it reveals that you wish both Limbaugh and Dick Cheney dead.
That is, of course, the very same sentiment that you (1) wrongly assign to Limbaugh, then: (2) condemn him for holding.
Nice try.
@michilines, we're still interested in the truth of your statement. You obviously can't corroborate it which is why you're trying to change the subject.
Evasion noted.
Here's hoping that Rush's heart problems can be bypassed or stented.
Irene,
It was for Limbaugh to judge. Why does he get a pass from you?
Michael,
That Limbaugh was wishing people dead before the invention of the internet is my being not being able to answer your question? Your "I demand a link!" nonsense reflects on you more than me.
Sure, I commented here so you would look at my blog. It's nothing different than you diva did back in the day, except you will notice I don't have adverts. I don't care what you think about me or my blog.
But on one thing you are ignorant. Limbaugh wished for the death of addicts -- while he was one himself.
You will never be able to change that. If he dies, all of the people who have been in the recovery community for decades will see it as his due.
OH NO! Please God, not Rush...I only just started listening to him, and he and Mark Levine are the only conservatives who keep me hoping.
Let him pull through.
Cheers,
Victoria
cryptical
Do you have recordings of Limbaugh 1987-1997?
Did you just listen to him but not tape him?
I certainly agree with Lyssa's first comment. Political disagreements are no reason to wish ill on others.
As for this comment,Some claimed that (unnamed persons that probably reside in their heads) were horrible about Ted Kennedy's death, I saw it with my own eyes.
As Kennedy was dying, a guy stood on a St. Paul overpass with a sign that said, "I will piss on Ted's grave."
This is in no way intended to suggest that assholes get a pass because other people acted as assholes.
May God watch over Rush and his family and give them the strength to turn away from the hate that is running rampant this evening.
I'm praying for him. I hope he gets well soon.
P.S.: I just read on Drudge that Pelosi is in Hawaii on vacation, and that the Palins were shooed away from Maui (I didn't see why). Given that our fearless leader is in Hawaii, and now I find out Rush is there with angina, it seems that Hawaii was THE place to winter this Christmas.
And I'm stuck in 75F South Florida.
Cheers,
Victoria
Hope Rush get better. He fits the profile for Heart problems:
-Smoker (but quit - maybe not a problem)
-Likes to eat fatty foods
-overweight
-doesn't like exercise
-Type A personality
BTW Anyone else find it fascnating that our two great protagonists [Obama and Rush] were vacationing in Hawaii?
I'm sure they were hanging out, eating arugula, and smoking Cubans.
@michilines - You cannot back up this specific statement that you posted here at 11:00 PM:
He's wished many people dead.
Please sell your line of nonsense elsewhere. We aren't buying.
@michilines -

Depends who it is. I disagree with Fidel Castro and would throw a party if he died tomorrow.
Upon the breaking news that Rush Limbaugh is hospitalized, you run to web site comment sections you know will be filled with people who don't like Rush. Because you want to see people posting disrespectful things about him. Because you want to get on your high-horse about it. So, wow, on the Internet, you found what you were looking for. I can always find what I'm looking for too. Want some links to despicable comments from Dittoheads?
Rush intentionally set out on a radio career designed to make millions of people hate him. So, yeah, a lot of people hate him. And, in the anonymity of the Internet, a few people (some of them mere trolls trying to fuck with you) are not being entirely respectful for him as a human being while he's in the hospital. But to most of those people he's not even a real person, he's a celebrity idealogue and satirist who has pissed them off over the years.
Leave them alone? So they (or you) are just here to post their (or your) bile and then want to be left alone? No, they (or you) crave attention, which is why you are here.
I've already said I don't want him to die because I think his radio program is often pretty entertaining. I don't think there's anyone who could fill his shoes.
Speak only for yourself. Don't project your beliefs onto others.
I'd be shocked if someone wanted Sarah MacLachlan to die over her touching commercials trying to save suffering puppies. I'm not shocked people wish ill on Rush. He wanted half the country to hate him.
I don't, personally, hate him. He's made me laugh plenty of times. And he did more than anyone to smack down the Political Correctness police on our college campuses in the early 1990s.
Michael,
Ask anyone in the recovery community. Limbaugh was all for the death penalty for them back in the '80s.
Please, just ask anyone. Then when he admitted to being such an addict that he lost his hearing, my goodness, they felt -- how can I say -- vindicated.
Michael, Limbaugh's life is out there -- denying it doesn't make it not true, love.
Good thing he didn't head to South America with his usual suitcase full of viagra this time. He'll get much better health care in Hawaii. He's in my prayers tonight. :)
@michilines
So you can't come up with one documented instance?
Keep flinging the poo.
cryptical
As I asked, do you have any recordings of Limbaugh that you haven't paid for?
I have listened to the man for all these years. If you are just a new fan, sorry.
Dont take the blue pill Rush ;)
Please listen to this parody @ 1:14.
michilines does for people in recovery what DTL does for gays.
rcocean -- you're out of date, as are all those who mock his weight. He is not fat, and hasn't been for a while as he has slimmed down this year (again).
If you caught him driving Leno's course (youtube? Hilarious.) you'll see.
You are right though -- his history would seem to predispose him to heart trouble, though I believe his father lived well into Limbaugh's middle age.
(Does cigar smoking have the same risk as cigarettes? I mean, his fingers are "formerly nicotine stained ..." ;-))
Loafing oaf fails to note that wishing death upon opponents is frowned upon by r/w leaders, and isn't really a part of r/w ideology. The same isn't true of the l/w; those who say such things are "just joking" or "just letting off some steam". Wishing death upon opponents is a clear part of far-left (i.e., not really old timey liberal) thinking; the targets are standing in the way of utopia and thus deserve having death (or the gulag) wished upon them.
To make matters worse, Loafing Oaf commits what we around here call heresy with the "Sarah MacLachlan" reference. The singer in that commercial is actually her.
Ask anyone in the recovery community.
Not my neighborhood, sorry.
And you still can't back up the statement that you made, so don't ask anyone else to hunt for it on tapes, etc.
As you well understand, recovery requires complete honesty.
Best wishes.
Thanks, chick.
Loafing oaf fails to note that wishing death upon opponents is frowned upon by r/w leaders, and isn't really a part of r/w ideology.
Coburn must not be a r/w leader, eh?
Kill Obama Care.. do it for Rush.
Michael, Limbaugh was on the air and aiming at targets long before he started altering his show's content and then selling it to rubes and to people who wanted to "help" the troops. You know that he was selling subscriptions so that people would pay him money to send his broadcast to the military who already get it for free, right?
Defending Limbaugh is not really worthwhile, but keep plugging away!

To clarify:
Actually, I walked to the refrigerator and made a peanut butter sandwich.
Then I read one other website - that of michilines.
I am not aboard a horse, neither high nor low.
I did not find what I was looking for on the internet, as I didn't search the internet. I am actually reading James Joyce, drinking merlot and listening to Radio Ireland.
And checking Althouse sporadically for nonsensical comments and accusations.
..the recovery community.
Dont waste your time MH.
They dont allow people who are not their kind ;)

How much money have you made off of her?"
:-O
That's it. You've earned a smack in the face.
You don't come here and insult her in her personal life - and, for the record, you're targeting the wrong guy.
You've done nothing here but to spout garbage. Figures - garbage in, garbage out.
I thought people in 'recovery' got along well with others.
"How much money have you made off of her?"
This person is apparently not smart enough to see that I dont have a blog or anything of the kind.
I know its lame but 100.
His death will have a serious effect on the Dominican underage sex industry.
I'm not sure pissing on someone's grave is the same as wishing them dead (especially when their death is imminent and inevitable). The former may be free speech. The latter is voodoo. Or "imprecatory prayer," which is what we learned it was called when one Pastor Wiley Drake was praying for Obama's death:
“Are you praying for his death?" Colmes asked Drake, referring to President Obama. "Yes," Drake replied. "So you're praying for the death of the president of the United States?" Colmes asked. "Yes." "You would like for the president of the United States to die?" Colmes asked once more. "If he does not turn to God and does not turn his life around, I am asking God to enforce imprecatory prayers that are throughout the Scripture that would cause him death, that's correct."
Drake says he regrets the media frenzy caused by the Colmes interview, but he stands by his use of imprecatory prayer, a form of prayer he says is biblically mandated -- an appeal to God that is, unlike most prayers, a request not for something positive but for misfortune, a kind of curse meant to fall on those considered evildoers.
Drake was praying Psalm 109: "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."
I love William's comments.
And I'm stuck in 75F South Florida.
Where, V? I'll be there myself next week. Gulf coast.
"You know that he was selling subscriptions so that people would pay him money to send his broadcast to the military who already get it for free, right?"
Um... wtf are you talking about? This sentence doesn't even make sense from a rambling leftist pov? Are you saying Rush sold subscriptions (I guess to the Limbaugh Letter??) in order to fund an attempt to get his show broadcast to the military? Is that the nefarious scheme you are imaginating here? I have trouble telling.
(PS: Rush is broadcast to the troops because they polled said troops and he was overwhelmingly the most requested radio show. No nefarious schemes needed.)
We now return you to liberals trying to explain why them wishing death on people who disagree with them is totally fine.
Um, Rush's podcasts aren't "edited" in any substantive sense. The commercials are removed, and so is the music.
This is a scandal? How stupid.
I've been listening since 1992 and receiving the podcasts since 2007. He doesn't broadcast death wishes. That's just a lie.
Finally, for the umpteenth time, Rush very rarely ever talked about drugs or drug laws. The fact that every single instance can be quoted in a paragraph or two really ought to put to rest the lie that he made his career out of being some kind of anti-drug crusader.
In my quest to try to help those who are wandering in the darkness to learn how to do things that are effective, I created this wiki. See the instructions.
Obviously, I dislike that site and the fact that I have to use it instead of something else is yet another example of r/w incompetence.
Here's a perfect example of the Compassionate, Tolerant Rabid Left on display.
Anonymous cowards all. :-(
What the hell is "the recovery community"?
Is this like other "communities" that are made up of only politically liberal sufferers and that only provide support to politically liberal persons while pretending that they are not political at all, but about "recovery?"
Now, presumably, Rush never *promoted* drug use. Do "recovery communities" promote drug use? Or do "recovery communities" say that drugs are harmful and addictive? Did Rush portray drugs as NOT harmful and addictive?
At what point does saying drugs are *bad* lead to a "recovery community" being all joyful and vindictive when a person becomes addicted to prescription pain meds?
It doesn't.
And I'm calling BS on our new, formally drug addled friend. Hating Rush Limbaugh is an exercise that requires the application of no facts at all, just made up monster memes. Those are impervious to reason, only perception... because someone said something and it *sounded* true.
Every single time this "monster" is brought out into the light and his actual recorded words, and there are decades of them, are examined, what *sounded* so true, turns out not to be true at all.
Maybe what the "recovery community" should be pissed off about is being emotionally manipulated and yanked about by people who don't care about what is true or not, but only about finding scapegoats and people to transfer responsibility to... because getting screwed over by people who pretend to be on your side when you're vulnerable is doing real harm and might even be evil.
Here's a perfect example of the Compassionate, Tolerant Rabid Left on display.
They have to be told how to behave.
I know it's tempting for folks to wish this man ill right now. God only knows he's earned the Karma. But before you do, I want you to remember this.
HE WANTS YOU TO
So kids, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Rush's illness triggers a sensor threat.. first amendment be damned.
Thats how much they fear Rush. unbelievable
The lengths people on the left will go to in order to paint Rush as an evil hate-monger never cease to amaze me, but michilines claims that Rush has wished death on people is so absurd I can't help but laugh.
Michilines, you don't have to pretend like you would provide examples to back up your claims. Many people have tried to slander Rush for years and so a simple Google search should be able to provide you with the most damaging quotes that you claim Rush has made. And if he has indeed made such comments, it would be out there, believe me. Yet you cannot seem to provide evidence even that way. Why? Because it doesn't exist, plain and simple. The worst anyone is able to produce is Rush saying that it ruins families and that the offender should go to jail.
Conversations with nearly anyone on the left about Rush Limbaugh seems to result in tales of mythical proportions about what Rush has said.
I have a friend who - like Limbaugh -lost a lot of weight quickly and she too ended up in the hospital with chest pains and a terrible case of pancriatis. (Sp). I hope he recovers. Like Althouse, I am concerned that the word "serious" is being used so quickly.
Some rabid responses at Twitter. I too prayed for Ted Kennedy, and do pray for Obama nearly every day, even though I don't like him. There is preaching the word "compassion" at people and then there is actually having it. People reveal themselves in these sorts of moments.
Rush has a diagnostic complication, that he can't be subject to magnetic fields owing to a cochlear implant.
Rush has a diagnostic complication, that he can't be subject to magnetic fields owing to a cochlear implant.
How do they get around that? just x rays?
are you saying he cant even get x rays?
from TMZ
UPDATE #3: A rep from the Rush Limbaugh Program released a statement saying, "Rush was admitted to and is resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital today after suffering chest pains.
Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes and he will keep you updated via RushLimbaugh.com."
Oh, good.
I hope that he feels all the way better very soon or at least gets to do his resting on a beach instead of in a hospital bed.
This is a chance for Obama to be "invisible" again.
Wait.. does that mean he's going to take days, maybe weeks to wish Rush a speedy recovery?
Nobody really knows. Thats the whole point to the man I suppose.

"I tell people don't kill all the liberals, leave enough around so we can have two on every campus; living fossils, so we will never forget what these people stood for."
Glad to see he wants some lives spared. But he's kidding, so it's all in good fun.
“Mr. Revkin,” Limbaugh asked, “why don’t you just go kill yourself and help the planet by dying?”
As written up in the Columbian Journalism Review
http://www.cjr.org/the_observatory/limbaugh_suggests_nyts_revkin.php
Finn you are full of it - i red your link and there is nothing even remotely resembling that "quote" there.
But thats not all.. I remember the quote you have perniciously altered.
The "I tell people don't kill all the liberals" IS COMPLETELY MADE UP.
The context of "leave enough [liberals] around so we can have two on every campus; living fossils, so we will never forget what these people stood for." is POLITICAL - made after the 1994 republican "takeover" not as you are so disingenuously suggesting.
The term "leave enough [liberals] around" was in the context of winning elections.
Not wishing people die!
You Lie!

oops. this is sad.
did this person think people are just going to take his word for it?
does he really think people are internet stupid?
I hear Rush on the radio way back when I was a liberal in name but conservative in the womb.
When I first heard him I remember being impressed by the ideas, the substance of his commentary.
Rush allowed me to revise my thinking about Reagan,
about conservatism and the nagging subject that always annoyed me about liberals.. their apparent comfort with abortion on demand.
Conservatives were/are mostly pro life.
Wellcome home Rush called it.
If Rush still smokes cigars, then that would greatly increase his risk of heart disease. Smoking messes with your lipids, increasing the ratio of LDL ("bad cholesterol") to HDL ("good cholesterol").
Does this mean that Rush will not coach the Florida Gators next year? Let's wait for the angiogram results. A simple stint may do the trick, or an implant of a defibrulater like the one inside Cheney for 6 years. The latest in medical care for heart conditions is amazing. Come home soon Rush.
Here we have all these relatively young celebrities dying (lets hope Rush makes it) with presumably the best health care money can buy.
And then here is Obama willing to bankrupt us in the name of health care.
It doesn't make any sense to me.
With all do respect to the many doctors that come here with all the anatomical names of the human body memorized..
We have made much more progress in other areas of science since the operating theater an we are still battling influenza.
And all the good jokes are about lawyers?
Again.. this 'health care' is what Obama is willing to bankrupt us over.
I've been to a few hospitals in may day .. I'm just letting off some steam ;)
Well.. if there are no more people willing to make up a slanderous Rush quote .. I'm signing off.
hand the batton to my fellow althousians whose sense of fairness is the hook yhat keeps us coming back.
^^^^Previous post removed to correct typos.
I've got the baton, Lem. Thanks for the third shift work.
It appears that God has extended the term of his talent loan to Rush Limbaugh.
Michilines said something to the effect that Limbaugh was on the air before the internet--for the record, you might want to Google DARPANET--the original internet (which, yes, Al Gore did suport funding for)--that started in the early 80s--I was using the net in 85-86--before there were blogs and before their social networking pages, there was a thing called usenet--discussion forums that were at best wild and wooley
Michilines is stuck in the new century it appears with little knowledge of history
@Lem: "With all do respect to the many doctors that come here with all the anatomical names of the human body memorized."
I only memorize the names of the good parts.
Once health care gets begovernmentized, you'll begin to see doctor jokes aplenty.
Even pre-national health care, my patients have to fill out a six page questionnaire before seeing me, just to meet Medicare mandates. Just wait until it gets the DMV makeover.
We recently talked about software to create a shadow chart for patients that strips out all the unnecessary bits we are required to have for the gummint and NGOs. It's gotten to be like in nursing homes, where 95% of the chart is useless bullshit .
The Kennedy-death-reaction vs. Rush-hospital-reaction comparisons are invalid. Rush has never killed a woman; Rush has never colluded with the Soviet Union to undermine the United States. Alcoholic who never sought treatment living large off Daddy's (ill-gotten) money vs prescription drug abuser who got clean and built his wealth with his own talent...
Let's stop pretending there's any sort of equivalence between Rush and Ted Kennedy.
No one deserves to die on the eve of a new year.
The sense of disappointment about Rush's survival at the DailyKos blog is verging on suicidal for some commenters.
Ann,
All the negative comments have now been sent down the memory hole at Politico.com's story....
http://thevailspot.blogspot.com
If Rush has no time for addicts, it may well be in the same sense he has no time for people on welfare who figure they've found a home in the system because it drags down the country and society.
He was on drugs and on welfare and had the courage to kick both. Having been there/done that, he knows how pernicious both are and doesn't have much sympathy for those who don't feel any great need to change their lives. Those who want to change, but need a hand, I'm sure he supports.
That's not evil or mean. I've known a couple of former addicts; they hate the stuff and have no time for those who want to tell everybody how cool it is. Whether the people who would be enablers for those still hooked, so they can justify their particular agenda, are evil or mean, I leave to the commenters here.
He was on drugs and on welfare....
The notion the Rush was on welfare was started by Al Franken in his book Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot. It is not true.
What is true is that Rush was on unemployment for a period of eight weeks after being laid of as director of sales & promotions for the Kansas City Royals. See snopes.com.
The people who hate Obama because he is black are the same people who oppose health care reform.
That is just as a fair and accurate a statement as the one about Rush Limbaugh that the good professor seems to endorse.
Let's play this game... the people who want socialized medicine in this country are the same people who sent money to the Soviets, Vietcong and Khmer Rouge so that they could slaughter innocent people in the name of their political ideology.
Is it weird that Obama and Limbaugh are only 30 minutes apart on the same Hawaiian island? If this were DemocraticUnderground, I would suggest that the President's right-hand man had everything to do with this but it's not. Get well soon Rush.
Craig - this The people who hate Obama because he is black are the same people who oppose health care reform. is nonsense.
It imputes racism where none exists. Obama was elected because a substantial number of white people voted for him.
People who oppose healthcare reform do so for reasons that have to do with cost, rationing, mandatory coverages for abortion, lack of private option, etc. Not racism.
You need a better bumper sticker.
Racism is fomented by liberals who have lost all other arguments and have nothing left to fall back on.
I encourage you to fully read Shelby Steele's WSJ op-ed regarding Obama and racism. It was featured on this blog a few topics back.
Craig laid an egg.
Would it be so much to ask for one lefty posting on this thread to wish that Rush gets well? Apparently.
The Left is so transparent. The hatred that they have for Rush is an extension of the same hate they had for Reagan, Cheney, Bush, Quayle, Palin, and on and on and on...
The smarter of the Lefties know that this is a concerted, consistent effort to keep the idiot masses (like the Libs who post on blogs like this) consumed with enough rage to make them act against their own self-interests. By electing a novice to the Presidency without so much as a resume check, for instance.
Long Live the Republic, God Bless Rush, and let us all remember that 2010 will be The Year of Reckoning for Congress.
http://www.donaldborschjr.blogspot.com/

I scanned through the top N comments at TMZ & Huffington Post. Huge difference. TMZ was filled with hateful "hope he dies" dreck. HuffPo was sensitive and normal, wishing Limbaugh a speedy recovery.

outside of the fact that you can't write a sentence ... you know that is a bunch of BS.
As this blog is about Rush, your BS fits the topic.
I wish no one death, no matter how unpleasant the person. Rush, and his constant lying, bigotry and hate-mongering are, however, right up there to the threshold of tolerance.
So if he does succumb, then it will be the litmus test of global warming as he will either fry in hell or we can't dig his grave due to permafrost.
"Limbaugh must answer for what he has said at some point. Why not now?"
The totailitarian mindset in a nutshell. Where in the 1st amendment does it set out which opinions must be answered for?
Opus One Media -
Harold, to this header on your website --
We are really (really) good at:
--you might add the following bullet point:
"Totally making a fool of myself by posting hateful, knee-jerk unthinking nonsense on a social website."
Typical New Yorker.
One is reminded of Dick Gregory's reply locals in a Jim Crow state when, seated at a lunch counter with chicken, and told they were going to him whatever he did to the chicken, Dick picked up the chicken and kissed it. Shall we pray that 'Whatsoever ye have done unto the least of these, my bretheren, ye have done unto Me', be returned to those who pray for illness and death?
Dance little Libtards, dance. Rush must answer for "lying"? Oh, really?
So when does Obama "answer for" his lies? You know, the ones about transparency, no lobbyists, hell, the little twerp even lied about how his own parents met.
Rush is a national treasure in that he forces the left to show their hand. Whether it's Harry Reid trying to use the force of Government to ruin Rush's career or Obama constantly referring to him like he's some sort of villain, they all eventually show their true motive. Complete control of information and the suppression of all dissent.
Screw the Libs, I hope Rush stays on the air for a couple more decades.
Seriously Harold, don't you thing that using your corporate website to post the stuff you post over here is a dumb idea from a marketing standpoint?
Not all prospective and current clients share your mind set, I'd bet. And the Google is a wonder background checker.
Die Rush Limbaugh! http://richardtgarner.blogspot.com/2009/12/die-rush-limbaugh.html
"He's a very controverisal person and many people hate him."
But liberals are not prone to hating their rivals rather than competing with them? Right.
Trey
Racism is fomented by liberals who have lost all other arguments and have nothing left to fall back on.
Sounds like you have a theory!
Aha. Time to take a few comments from anonymous people and assign responsibility to a whole class of people.
Rush Limbaugh has said on his show many times that once the government runs health care, there is a threat that life-or-death decisions will be made based on politics, and people will worry that if they criticize the government or espouse the wrong opinions decisions will go against them. .
What the hell? Why would you dittohead this comment? Are you saying that Limbaugh would be put to death if we had health care reform?
Because of some nasty comments on the internets?
Wow that is dumb.
Harold - One last friendly suggestion before I head out the door for some skiing.
Your identity as Opus One Media links back to your profile which in turn links to your corporate website, which includes a list of your past and present clients.
Not smart. Not media savvy.
You might want to consider posting under a different name. Just saying. Just saying as the former marketing guy for a Fortune 500 company.
Reuptation is everything.
Happy New Year.
As he said of Jerry Garcia "just another dead doper", it would nearly impossible to grant him any humanity he denied others. And Garcia actually contributed something to this world, while Limbaugh robbed and poisoned it.
And Garcia actually contributed something to this world
That's setting the bar a bit low but ok.
Looks like Lush said worse when Jerry Garcia died:
"Just another dead doper. And a dirt bag."
And during the health care debate we had conservatives openly wishing for Robert Byrd to drop dead.
Oops. Posted too soon.
So, to conclude, I think Rush is just another doper. And a dirt bag.
I'm sure he would approve.
And during the health care debate we had conservatives openly wishing for Robert Byrd to drop dead.
Well I can honestly say I'm not fond of KKK members either.
LonewackoDotCom is same guy who used to post as 24ahead, and he changed his name because people got so pissed at his spamming, i.e., his posting links to his own crappy, worthless website.
In a couple weeks, this turd will have to change his name again.
Get well soon Rush.
Alpha_liberal,
Do you think that health care decisions (i.e. how money is allocated) will be unrelated to politics? Are you that naive, after what Reid did to get votes to pass the bill?
Do you think that health care decisions (i.e. how money is allocated) will be unrelated to politics .
What does that have to do with Rush Limbaugh going to the hospital? What does that have to do with Althouse's dittohead post that "if they criticize the government or espouse the wrong opinions decisions will go against them?"
Nothing and nothing.
The idea that anybody is worried that people may say uncivil things about the King of Uncivility is a joke.
And, no, there's no plot to withhold health care from conservatives. What a bunch of paranoids.

There's an enlightened statement, fresh off the presses at Media Matters, no doubt. And, needless to say, the Left is the arbiter of who is deserves to be granted any humanity. Since you Lefties are so into context and nuance, how about a little here?
Assuming the quote is factual, of course.
Was Rush being contemptuous or pointing out the waste of a life on drugs?
More to the point, I'd argue that brain-dead, high decibel acid rock doesn't necessarily qualify as a great contribution to the world. Rush, on the other hand, has energized conservatism like no one since Bill Buckley. He's brought people together to show them they weren't alone in their objections to how this country was being stolen by the Left and inspired them to do something about it.
That's what you really can't stand.
Rush hasn't robbed anything from anybody; he's the one who has made the great contribution.
Liberals are like out of control teenagers who are full of themselves. They are never to be taken seriously, but bear close watching.
Ask anyone in the recovery community.
??? what is the recovery community.
Please use a permalink for twitter:

Thanks
"the recovery community"
I believe that refers to a string of upholsterers off I-90 near LaCrosee, Wisconsin, started by Susan and Dave Harbinder, the ex-hippy slip-cover magnates.
Craig: Thank goodness nobody around here would say anything like that that about, oh, Andrew Sullivan or Rachel Maddow or any of the other liberals that are always treated with the utmost respect and dignity by the Althouse comments community.
See, this is the mental disease so typcial of the Left.
People like Craig act on what they *believe* to be the lowest common denominator. Craig *believes* we root for the death of liberal icons, so he excuses any of his own kind who do the same.
And he'll use that *belief* to justify his own sick acts.
I haven't read many of the comments but does any one honestly believe that Rush is whimpering that some libs wish he were dead - no matter how sick he may be?
Come on! This is Rush! If anything, that would energize him! And that's why we love him so much!!
AlpahLib: "And, no, there's no plot to withhold health care from conservatives. What a bunch of paranoids."
Okay. Then maybe you can explain why Blue districts recieved double the stimulus money that Red districts did?
A December study from George Mason University showed that Democratic districts have received nearly twice as much stimulus money as Republican districts -- and the cash has been awarded without regard to how badly an area was suffering from job losses or income problems. Blue districts garnered the majority of the $787 stimulus package, getting an average of $439 million per district to the
Not political you say? Kiss my ass.
"explain why Blue districts recieved double the stimulus money that Red districts did?"
Just copying what FDR did, to the letter.
I like RL well enough that I'd like to see him last for awhile.
I also have a theory that if enough people fervently wish death on someone it often seems to energize that person and prolong their survival.
By focusing on someone and wishing him or her dead you could be giving that person a bigger boost than those who seem to love him/her.
Fen, how does that quote prove a plot to withhold medical care from conservatives?
It doesn't. And you prove an inability to reason.
And, yes, kiss my ass.
Alpha: The idea that anybody is worried that people may say uncivil things about the King of Uncivility is a joke.
See? Alpha is another sicko. Alpha believes Rush deserves Hatred because Alpha swallowed lies and propaganda that Rush is a Hater.
I never understood how millions of Germans so easily and readily bought into the Hatred of Jews. But now I have AlphaLib to demonstrate. Keep swallowing baby.
AplahLib: Fen, how does that quote prove a plot to withhold medical care from conservatives? It doesn't.
The quote proves that conservatives are not unreasonable in their "paranoia" [your accusation] that ObamaCare will be divied up along political lines. All they have to do is look at how the stimulus was spread around.
And you prove an inability to reason.
Yah, I think you just outed yourself as an idiot. Any 5th grader could have made the connection. What's your excuse?
Wow Alpha, two punches and your're out for the count. You should revisist downgrading your screen name.
Rush Limbaugh to a black caller:
Take that bone out of your nose and call me back. .
Rush Limbaugh, before his illegal drug addiction became news:
Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too. .
"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. ... This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting.".
This is Ann Althouse's role model.
More to the point, I'd argue that brain-dead, high decibel acid rock doesn't necessarily qualify as a great contribution to the world.
Maybe brain dead to you. Garcia's music is loved around the world, and Limbaugh is loved by a small static group of equally miserable and bitter morons who listen to Limbaugh's garbage conspiracy theories.
Guess which commenter on this post has a blog that said yesterday, in reponse to Limbaugh's medical emergency 'If not Dick Cheney, then Limbaugh will do.' Well, Mr. Hasenstab gave it way, but there you are. Not some drunken, anonymous commenter, not some right-wing troll trying to make the other side look bad, but someone who openly seeks to be a voice for the "progressive" cause.
Yet more proof, if any were needed: conservatives think the left is well-meaning but misguided; Liberals think the right is evil. And that they'll stop at nothing to defeat the evildoers.
For Pete's sake, Fen. That doesn't make any damn sense.
The stimulus program was a spending program and funds were allocated through tax breaks, contract awards and the like.
To compare that to health care delivery to individuals makes no sense.
Please elaborate how this discrimination scheme would work:
How would the medical staff detect a conservative and know when to withhold care? Are you alleging some list is being kept that they would consult?
Do you think that all health care decisions will be made by the White House?
By all means, elaborate! I love the crazy!
Rush Limbaugh to a black caller:
"Take that bone out of your nose and call me back. ."
Rush Limbaugh to a radical Vegan.
"Take that carrot out of your ass and call me back...."
I made that one up. Let's all make up undocumented quotes, or quotes taken out of context and use them to denigrate sick people.
Alpha believes Rush deserves Hatred because Alpha swallowed lies and propaganda that Rush is a Hater. .
You don't get the joke. Lush Windbag's fans routinely brush off his offensive, racist and otherwise disturbing comments.
But they get their undies in wad when some anonymous person somewhere says "tough shit" to the big buy going in the hospital.
The joke is your hypocrisy.
Let's all make up undocumented quotes, or quotes taken out of context and use them to denigrate sick people. .
DBQ, how sad that you engage in simple-minded denial.
Snopes confirms this racist quote from Limbaugh:
"# "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back."
Rush Limbaugh acknowledged making these statements in a 1990 Newsday article"
AL does not believe that medical decisions will be politicized if/when gov't runs healthcare.
This is so _____________ I don't know what to say about it. But I managed not to curse online.
Such restraint.
WV: kabbal - really !
rdkraus, you can't make a coherent defense of a loony idea, but you should get points for not simply reverting to cussing.
Now, maybe you could try to show how the Medicaid or Medicare to show "medical decisions will be politicized if/when gov't runs healthcare."
Plenty of experience there to point to!
Really, gang, this is a crazy accusation. Please elaborate on how this system would work.
"Now, maybe you could try to show how the Medicaid or Medicare to show "medical decisions will be politicized if/when gov't runs healthcare."
That's easy, because it already happened, with the recent controversy regarding the change in recommendations for routine mammograms for women in their 40s.
The firestorm that erupted resulted in a quick reversal. That is, medical decisions were politicized.
American Power tracked-back with, 'Leftists Cheer for Limbaugh's Death'.
Re losing lots pof weight, the thing to remember is that many people who lose lots of weight are doing so after being told that they have a serious halth problem that requires losing lots of weight.
Also, sometimes shit just happens.
AL, are you ever in a good mood?
Well speaking for myself I can admit to being undisturbed by such
rhetoric although I do find interesting the cognitive dissonance of a group that prides itself on tolerance to express such spittle-flecked hatred over someone's political beliefs. I'll wager that a fair portion of them hoping for Limbaugh's death have a 'Free Mumia' t-shirts.
Re: Finn's site (http://www.cjr.org/the_observatory/limbaugh_suggests_nyts_revkin.php) about asking some guy to just kill himself-
I did find the site (not sure why others couldn't), and the quote is there, but
Anyone who read it in context and was smart enough to tie his shoes would see that Rush was not wishing death on the guy, he was pointing out the environmental movement's hypocracy. He was talking about one of those "humanity is a plague on mother earth" morons, and pointing out that his own ideology should suggest that he kill himself.
In other words, sorry, wrong answer, try again.
- Lyssa
Well Mr. Hasentaub, it would appear that you can either be undisclosed or not and no one is either immune nor safe from a Google so it really doesn't matter a great deal if you go private or public or try to hide under a blanket in your garage.
Although, just for fun, wondering why BEN hit a near 52 week high after you left?
