Maybe sandhill cranes like rap music.

This was out by Lake Mendota yesterday:

Is that rap or syncopated jam?

"Kids and their damn rap music" (said while hitching up pants by the belt to almost chest height).

We have Sand Hill Cranes visiting us down here in Florida (Tampa Bay area) all year long. They tend to congregate at roadsides, and we have quite a few signs warning drivers not to run over them. The don't seem to be bothered by much of anything; I suspect they are very brave or more likely just really stupid.

I've hiked along the shores of that lake once in my life. It's a lovely area.

What a great place full of life and beauty.

Do people who like to get out there and see things end up getting into photography to capture some of the beauty, or do people interested in photography go places where they can capture the beauty?

Lake down the block.

No Canada geese.

Penny--both.

It's the preferred method of shooting wildlife.

Less goo than using a gun.

LOL

rhhardin - That's such a fine looking dog, in an idyllic setting.

Ditto what Beth said.

That dog spreads joy.

Those look like blue herons to me. But we are looking at the dark side of the bird.

It wouldn't be Althouse without rh and Vicki.

But I have to ask? Does anyone else wonder if rh flops down on his couch at night and pulls Vicki up there with him for a good belly rub and ear scratching? Does he ever do that baby talk thing with her that makes her little stump of a tail thump, thump, thump? Does he let her lick his mouth and steal his sock once in a while?
