@Meade - What did you feed the crabapple tree? Was it the yellow tabs? The yellow tabs are dangerous, man, trees are having real bad trips after using them.

PC guy myself. I've used Gimp on Linux and Photo-Paint (Corel) with various incarnations of Kai's Power Tools (various graphic filters) and I've dabbled a bit in Photoshop (don't care for it) in Windows.
As I said before, I'm really in awe of your ability to capture a scene. I have next to no native graphic ability myself. I can touch up something already there pretty well, but all my pictures don't connect the way yours do.
You have a real talent for capturing Nature. You ought to consider showing some of your work formally.
Yes, I'm perfectly serious and not polishing any apples.
I can't find a way to phrase this without sounding like an ass, but all the shots of plants and landscapes make me wonder if Meade has found a job like the one he used to have.
Ok. I bought an auto darkening welding helmet. Totally cool. Instead of flicking my head in a downward motion to have the old helmet rotate down to cover my eyes, I can have the new helmet down and it will darken when I start to weld. It's like looking through sun glasses, before the arc. How does it work? Well, there are two batteries in it, and when I push the ON button, it will go black twice, and then I'm ready to go. So, it's some kind of magic. No, not that bad voodoo magic, but magic from God. Right after God, said: "Let there be light", he was probably thinking about inventing this. It's also painted up like a pro hockey goal tenders helmet. 21st century, man.

O my God, that's good!
What kind of tree is that? I want one for my yard.
Purple.
Life is good.
Palladian just added a picture to his Flickr stream too.

So is the tree bark a photographic illusion, or did it appear that color to the eye as well? Either way, terriffic image.
I fiddled with the colors. Hope you don't mind.
Mind? But you play that fiddle sooo sweetly!
No don't mind at all.
You have us all dancing to your tune.
What software did you use?

I just use iPhoto. It's very easy to do what I did.
I'm not familiar with iPhoto. Is it the standard graphic editor for Macs?
Any of you remember Crabby Appleton,a TV character, from the 50's? or 60's?
Tapestry, tapestry: green-gold purple red yellow;
Wherein the unicorn doth roam: forever favored fellow.
iPhoto has been standard in Macs for a long time. I love it.

Wasn't he the villain in the Tom Terrific serial cartoon on Captain Kangaroo?
Marvelous! My new favorite Althouse pic. I have so many of them, now. You should publish a book of your pics. I would buy it.
you can tell me every little thing

This is a starkly beautiful photo - I just stopped "reading" and spent some time just looking at the colors and composition.
Here in USDA Zone 6b, crabapples are for the birds . . . and the side of our house.
S P L A T ! ! !
Rotten to the core (Crabby Appleton, that is).
I second Patm's suggestion! I'd buy a book of your photos too. One can only imagine the visual narrative you'd construct.
