"Them Jews aren't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office. ... They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ... I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."

"..They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ....".
African American, please.
Thank you.
Honestly, is anyone surprised, at this point, that Obama's longtime pastor is casually racist? I thought that was all hashed out pretty clearly during the campaign, notwithstanding the efforts of respectable media outlets to hush it all up. It would have taken a sort of willful obtusity to have missed it. Or, I suppose, a total disengagement from political news.
Must be another of those right-wingers who are inciting violence against Holocaust museums.
To everyone who thinks that the far right, and the far left, can be measured by spreading your arms to illustrate the difference, I've got news for you. Political differences are measured by a circle. At the top (12 o'clock) are a right and left agreement. At 3 and 9 o'clock, are the differences. Far left and far right, meet at 6 o'clock. There is not a lick of difference.
So, the wingnuts go berserk when Wight says: "..They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ....".
Because...that's racist.
But when Rush Limbaugh, one of the GOP's primary "leaders" says the following...it isn't?
1. "I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."
2. "You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed."
3. "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"
4. "Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."
5. "The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."
6. "They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?"
7. "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller)."
8. "I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve."
9. "We are being told that we have to hope Obama succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president."
It's no problem??
Hypocrites.
Everyone is a Jew, when you come down to it.
Allen,
The phenomenon is known as Blair's Law, and it specifically describes:
"The ongoing process by which the world's multiple idiocies are becoming one giant, useless force"
Jayne, I never heard of Blair's Law, but there are things in life that are becoming quite evident.
You'll find Jeremy at 6 o'clock.
I do find it interesting that so many African Americans are so casually antisemitic. If any of this came out of the mouths of a White person, they would be hounded mercilessly. What makes it almost worse is that it is the Back clergy, from Jesse Jackson, through Al Sharpton, to Jeremiah Wright, who seem to be leading the current wave of Black antisemitism.
Because...that's racist.
Er, no -- I'm pretty sure Jdeeripper is making fun of all the liberals who started screaming RACIST! RACIST! at someone (Bill Clinton? One of Clinton II's proxies? I don't recall) who said "call a spade a spade" during the Democratic primaries.
So, the wingnuts go berserk when Wight says: "..They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ....".
.
Actually the only one who ever goes beserk around here is you after which you start soliciting oral sex.
Actually I don't think it's the spade comment but the classic 'Those Jews won't let Obama talk to him' excuse.
You know Jeremy, the old canard how the Joooos are running the show behind the curtain. Now they're even controlling Obama.
According to the good Reverend that is.
I'll betcha Wright has never been to Hymie town.
I do find it interesting that so many African Americans are so casually antisemitic.
Why?
What makes it almost worse is that it is the Back clergy, from Jesse Jackson, through Al Sharpton, to Jeremiah Wright, who seem to be leading the current wave of Black antisemitism.
I'm not exactly plugged into Black youth culture, but Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Jeremiah Wright are all getting on in years somewhat. I vaguely recall reading about some poll or other suggesting that Black antisemitism is actually well on the decline -- hopefully it is simply the case that Jackson, Sharpton, and Wright are the last gasp of the bigoted generation.
Early in a collection of political speech blunders by Matthew Parris (titled Read My Lips in honor of everyone knows who) is a response by a (now-probably-forgotten) Labour shadow home affairs spokesman named Roy Hattersley to a student making an "anti-racist" speech in 2003:
"I believe in calling a spade a spade."
jdeeripper calls it in the first comment, fergodssakes. Isn't it a little, well, odd for Jeremiah Wright, of all people, not to know what "spade" means colloquially?
I'm going to coin a new term: a six o'clocker. The next time Jeremy takes over a thread, tell me, if he isn't the absolute definition of the far right/far left. There isn't a lick of difference.
I call a rose a rose.
I do find it interesting that so many African Americans are so casually antisemitic.
Thank goodness I never generalize about members of another group.
Jeremiah Wright is a six o'clocker.
I'll betcha Wright has never been to Hymie town.
To honor Judge Sotomayor, we should spell it Jaime town.
Coleridge phrased it Extremes Meet. No doubt google will turn up a thousand examples.
Anima Poetae is in google books in fact, here, which in fact is probably the book where I first encountered it.
Eleven examples.
Hoosier - "You know Jeremy, the old canard how the Joooos are running the show behind the curtain. Now they're even controlling Obama."
I'm not familiar with it.
Can you sight examples where it's appeared?
And maybe instead of using the term "Joooos" which in itself is rather anti-Semitic, you can take a shot using the actual term.
I kind of assumed that rather than "The Jews" in general, Wright was referring to Axelrod and Emmanuel, Obama's political handlers......
rhhardin said..."Everyone is a Jew, when you come down to it."
And black.
Bet that reality riles more than a few here.
Good god, Althouse -- Jeremiah Wright?!
I guess you have pared down to a single purpose for this blog: feed the Obama Derangement Syndrome and spew endless CRAP (closeted Republican acting politically).
It's completely hilarious that Jeremy missed the antisemitic comment and focused on jdeeripper's comment to supposedly bash righties over hypocrisy. He probably didn't even notice it, given the antisemitism that permeates the left. Most likely, he agrees with it. Homophobic and antisemitic - Jeremy really is Pat Buchanan.
Deirdre Mundy said..."I kind of assumed that rather than "The Jews" in general, Wright was referring to Axelrod and Emmanuel, Obama's political handlers......"
Of course he was, but that wouldn't play as well with the local wingnuts.
And you notice how "Independent" Ann ran the blaring headline to get the "Househeads" going.
Henry Buck said..."It's completely hilarious that Jeremy missed the antisemitic comment and focused on jdeeripper's comment to supposedly bash righties over hypocrisy."
I didn't miss anything, you idiot, and I don't know if Wright meant it in a racist way either. (How do YOU know?)
You know, he is black, right?
You generally don't hear blacks making racist statement about blacks.
Oh, I get it, referring to Obama's inner circle as "the Jews" is somehow supposed to be less antisemitic? You don't even see what a fool you are.
Jeremy
I hate Limbaugh as much as any Liberal but did he really say that about James Earl Ray? That one seems a bit more outlandish than usual.
Henry - "He probably didn't even notice it, given the antisemitism that permeates the left."
Right.
It's those damn liberals who are anti-Semites and racists.
And, as for my Rush Limbaugh racist posting: You do realize he IS the leader of the GOP...at least according to the polling of Republicans today...and I would think Republicans would be more concerned about racism from their "leader" than Wright.
He gets 13%, Cheney 10% and Newt 6%...with Princess Palin (a real fan favorite here)...nowhere to be found.
"Isn't it a little, well, odd for Jeremiah Wright, of all people, not to know what "spade" means colloquially?"
It may also be that Wright, who's clearly not a dumb guy by any measure, could be expressing a little discontent over the way he was treated by candidate Obama (he's still trying to get the bus-axle grease off his good Sunday suit, I hear), and is by the "spade" comment subtly calling attention to the fact that Obama is in fact half-white.
Just an idea.
Matt - "Jeremy, I hate Limbaugh as much as any Liberal but did he really say that about James Earl Ray? That one seems a bit more outlandish than usual."
See for yourself:
http://newsone.blackplanet.com/obama/top-10-racist-limbaugh-quotes/
"The Jews" in general, Wright was referring to Axelrod and Emmanuel, Obama's political handlers......
Even if true, thinking that their most salient characteristic is their religion is a tad weird. Substitute
"Them Presbyterians"
"Them Catholics"
"Them Muslims"
"Them Zoroastrians"
or even
"Them Italians"
"Them blacks"
I mean, what's the point?
Henry Buck said..."Oh, I get it, referring to Obama's inner circle as "the Jews" is somehow supposed to be less antisemitic? You don't even see what a fool you are."
I don't think anybody here has said Wright's statement wasn't anti-Semitic. Any time you group people into such a comment it's hard not to wonder.
But I believe he was probably referring to Obama's close advisers, who he's probably had personal conversations with, and not Jews in general...but then again, I don't know the man.
It's not difficult to understand what Rush was saying about blacks though.
Were YOU confused?
A wise black man, with the richness of his experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion about things than a Jew who hasn't lived that life.
The comment attributed to Limbaugh about James Earl Ray has been debunked.
Most of those quotes seem out of character for Limbaugh.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/d-s-hube/2009/06/04/maddow-slimes-limbaugh-phony-quote
I think Rev. Wright should be ambassador to Gaza.
I'm too lazy to track down Jeremy's Rush quotes but I'd say most of them were made up out of whole cloth and the remainder were doctored.
In Jeremy world the end justifies the means.
"He gets 13%, Cheney 10% and Newt 6%...with Princess Palin (a real fan favorite here)...nowhere to be found."
Outsider status is a feature, not a bug. ;-)
"I hate Limbaugh as much as any Liberal but did he really say that about James Earl Ray? That one seems a bit more outlandish than usual."
I doubt that any of Jeremy's quotes mean what he thinks they mean. Rush tends to say outrageous things to illustrate something else. If he seriously denigrated the Medal of Honor like that, his listeners would crucify him.
I am shocked, just shocked, to click a thread and see Jeremy posting to it trying to change the topic to someone else.
"The comment attributed to Limbaugh about James Earl Ray has been debunked.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/d-s-hube/2009/06/04/maddow-slimes-limbaugh-phony-quote"
Glad to hear it.
Hey, weren't we told that Wright wasn't really a racist but he had quotes taken out of context?
BTW...
Show of hands... how many people even knew which of Obama's staff were Jewish before today?
"Them Catholics"
You talking about the Supremes?
To answer Synova's question, if asked, I would have guessed Rahm was Jewish. Wasn't be born in Israel? Not that that seals the deal, or anything, but it's a strong indicator.
He's the only Obama advisor I could name.
Let's rehash.
Obama attends Wright's church with his family for 20 years. His children are baptized by Wright. He donates $50,000 to Wright in the two years before the election.
Wright is clearly a racist lunatic.
Now, Obama, clearly a great judge of people, is going run the car companies, reform healthcare, rejig the energy industry and solve the Middle East conflict.
What can go wrong?
How reassuring...to know that Obama is nothing but bitch nigger for the Jewish lobby.
"Jeremy, I hate Limbaugh as much as any Liberal but did he really say that about James Earl Ray? That one seems a bit more outlandish than usual."
Rush did not say those things, as a five second google will attest. Jeremy is a buffon who mindlessly repeats any nonsense he finds appealing. Not very different from the people who think the "Protocols of The Elders Of Zion" are true.
Jeremy, you are an IDIOT. No use being polite with your kind. I read those quotes on Limbaugh and they seemed fictional on first reading. So who do you source for these quotes? A rapper on Blackplanet.com??? And where are his sources? Oh, wait, he doesn't have any! Go back under the rock you crawled from you intellectual midget.
I'm not familiar with it..
Then I suggest you take your own advice and read more.
And maybe instead of using the term "Joooos" which in itself is rather anti-Semitic, you can take a shot using the actual term..
Nice attempt at deflection but that's ok. Joooos is a parody of those, like Wright, who think they control everything from the media, Hollywood, financial institutions and yes, your precious President Obama who can't even talk to Wright without an ok from AIPAC.
Please do try and keep up.
I didn't miss anything, you idiot, and I don't know if Wright meant it in a racist way either. (How do YOU know?)
I'll bite: provide a plausible context where his comments weren't racist.
You generally don't hear blacks making racist statement about blacks.
That'd be news to Clarence Thomas.
And Michael Steele.
And JC Watts.
It's those damn liberals who are anti-Semites and racists.
Given that "Anti-zionists", who basically recite the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as gospel tend to OVERWHELMINGLY be on the left...yeah. Pretty much.
Synova said...
BTW...
Show of hands... how many people even knew which of Obama's staff were Jewish before today?.
I'll go one better than MM. I knew Rahm was Jewish, but as for the rest, I thnk a number of his foreign policy types, are at least anti-zoinist, if not anti-semitic.
I don't think this is the same Rev. Wright who President Obama knew for 20 years. Heh.
Look at the ObaM-orons unable to accept that they adore a man whose "faith" is nothing but a black nationalist, Jew-hating LEFT version of the KKK.
Facts are that Leftists like Jeremy and Jurist Dentist are perfect representatives of the HYPOCRITES and LIARS which make up today's LEFT and if they were capable of shame or remorse they would never show their face when the subject of the ugly anti-semitism of Obama "spiritual advisor" came up.
No amount of distraction toward Limbaugh or anyone else is going to absolve you nutjobs from the facts that you elected a man as president who worships at the feet of a full-blown racist and anti-semite.
Sorry, you voted for him now own him!
For context, Rev Wright was in Chicago when Jews there had a few articles published last December quoting them as revelling in the number of Chicago area Jews going to the White House, and calling Obama "Our First Jewish President" - While black leaders there and in other states said they were not getting their due of appointments - after Obama got 96% of the black vote - again..(What a surprise in the Democrat Party! You would think one day blacks would learn they are taken for granted except when elections approach and they are marched to the Plantation and forgotten the day after.)
As FLS posted, the list of Jews is long. It covers 4 of 6 top White House people controlling access to Obama, plus Chief of Staffs for VP Biden and the 1st Lady.
Except for Holder and Valerie Garrett, blacks were shut out of senior policy-making positions. Another bone of contention for Chicago blacks after Jews said they were the big winners of the key positions..
FLS - Monica Sutphen is a biracial, halakhic Jew, by the way.
David Axelrod (2009- ) Senior Advisor to the President

When one group controls access to the President, sets and they are from an identifiable population - they tend to get called such (those Germans with their Berlin Wall shielding Nixon), those Georgian peanut Mafioso..Dubya had "those Texan Christians and 'Bush Family retainers" shielding him - plus Rice...
Obama is also known in Chicago to owe "big favors" to the ethnic Jewish - Crown, Pritzker, and Klutznik families who were he and Michelle's wealthy patrons (and Valerie Garretts) for 20 years. Along with Abner Mikva. And who also got some very good deals for high-paying part-time work for both the Obamas at U of Chicago..which had the Crowns and Pritzkers running the Board of Trustees and seating past protege Garrett as a director..
I wonder if Cedarford saw this article and realized he was on the same page as Wright and spontaneously combusted?
He's the only Obama advisor I could name.
Axelrod is probably the no. 1 guy, ranking above even Emanuel for Obama's ear. He's the "Architect" so to speak. Anyway, he's Jewish too, isn't he?
###
Sad that the anti-Jewish sentiments of Nation of Islam have taken hold even with some black Christians.
I don't like Rev Wright's words and think he should apologize profusely.
But they are still words, not bullets.
"But they are still words, not bullets."
Who is more dangerous?
A man with a gun or a man with these thoughts who has the power to push policy and legislation which can affect millions?
Sad to see the members of the Left trying to absolve themselves from having handed power to someone who worshipped at the feet of this racist, anti-semitic loon and this ideology for years.
The LEFT knew perfectly well about it ALL but frankly they just didn't care. Somewhere within them it festers so they HOPE that this shame will not be repeatedly brought to light.
Alpha"
"Just words" was a supposedly dynamite part of a powerful speech President Obama borrowed from Gov. Patrick. Or a I mistaken?
I don't like Rev Wright's words and think he should apologize profusely.
But they are still words, not bullets.
Hmm, I seem to remember the Left trying to blame that shooting of the abortion doctor on the words of the pro-life community...
Of course, it they were truly "just words", no one would have cared that Obama "borrowed" the phrase from his pal.
It should read "IF".
Cedarford--You left out Ben Bernanke.
Could it just be possible that there are a large number of Jews in high positions in the Obama administration because there is a large pool of talented, highly educated and accomplished Jews in this country? American Jews, like Asian Americans, have aspired high, worked hard and been wonderfully successful. They were so talented and successful that the gentiles first circled the wagons to keep them out, and then embraced them because their talent was needed.
It's not just a Democratic/Liberal thing either. Remember that guy Kissinger.
Jews have an influence in this country disproportionate to their numbers because they have earned it on merit. No more, and no less.
Jeremy, at least some of those are fake quotes, though they enjoy wide circulation. Newsone is not a reliable source, I'm afraid.
I didn't bother to check them all. But then, it wasn't my claim, was it? You should have checked them yourself.
"Rev. Wright’s comments were not only wrong, but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity, racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve problems that confront us all." - Candidate BHO.
Sadly, after reading all of the above comments, I think Rev. Wright has a much better feel for the country than the president does.
Seems that Obama's former minister shares a few ideas with James Von Brunn. Maybe his words "inspired" Von Brunn in the same way that Dr Tiller's killer was?
If Wright is calling a spade a spade, then does he refer to his friend Obama as POTUS as...
...wait for it...
...The Ace of Spades?
OK maybe I'm an ignorant hick but my parents had card parties...and I thought this expression referred to a suit of cards. Spades. Clubs. Hearts. Diamonds.
Maybe I'd be smarter if I were a Joooooooooooo.
"Jews have an influence in this country disproportionate to their numbers because they have earned it on merit. No more, and no less."
Agreed, David, but some may be suggesting we affirmative actionize this moving forward.
Interesting how the concept of "merit" takes up less and less of our American dialogue these days.
Sadly, after reading all of the above comments, I think Rev. Wright has a much better feel for the country than the president does.
I don't. Rather, for the most part, the Jews seem to have mostly disappeared into White society in the last 40 years. Not complete, no, but significantly.
For example, my parents, WASP to the core, had no close Jewish friends, and knew few Jews at all. And, despite trying to be politically correct, still bought into the stereotypes. I grew up in that environment, but ended up with a lot of Jewish friends from my fraternity in college (and since then). But then, my kid doesn't know the difference between Protestant, Jewish, or Roman Catholic. I would ask if a Samuel Goldsomething were Jewish, and the answer would be: What?
I really do believe that much of America has become almost insensitive to whether someone is Jewish or not since the end of WWII. And the poster above may be right that the Black community is going in the same direction, and that those antisemitic Black clergy are a holdover from a previous era.
Jeremiah Wright served a very useful purpose to Obama in the arc of his amazing political career. He expects to be welcomed to the White House, because face it, without him Obama might still be a hapless community activist. He doesn't accept being tossed -- what is that phrase I hate that's so popular? -- under the bus, and he's pulling his usual schtick to draw attention back to himself. Congratulations. It worked, the schmuck.
All this right / left argumentation is so wearisome I could hurl, so I skip it. You keep digging your ruts so deeply you'll never dig out, and it displays a simplistic rudimentary calculus that marks one a dullard.
"But they are still words, not bullets."
Words are usually a leading indicator of bullets.
What the world is facing in the anti-Jewish hate today is deeply rooted in Pride of people who feel they KNOW a truth that no one but them is important enough to know. The Mohammedan Boys have it. The KKK boys have it. The French and many once Catholic countries have it. The English ruling classes have it. Henry Ford had it. Joe Stalin had it. The John Birchers have it. It is only restrained when it is socially ostracized. This is one pride that is guaranteed to go before destruction, but it is oh so seductive to people who have pride in their superior intellects, Ergo the Progressive wing of todays Democrats has it, which I suspect includes the President and his wife. But remember that whatever they succeed in doing to destroy and kill the Jews will happen to the Jewish sect called Christians next.
My, my, my. Aren't we all opposed to one another and common sense. Mr. Washington pointed out the evil of party politics and here we see why. Everyone is contentedly arguing which side is more racist-the right or the left when the real question should be why is a "Christian" minister making such comments? Why would there be a need for anyone to make such comments about a presidential candidate in the United States of America? Aren't we better than that?
The Von Brunn shooting was a terrorist act and a horrible crime. His victim was a hero and I pray for him and his family. Von Brunn in no way represents my views, any more than scum like Fred Phelps represents view of most Christians. But I know that Charles Johnson and other mendacious individuals on the left will use the opportunity to blame this act on right wing extremism. Von Brunn was wearing a confederate hat wasn’t he?
But the Reverend Wright (why doesn’t Wright count as a Christianist to Sullivan?) gives another example of Jew hatred, with his rant today.
Granted Wright is not a criminal or a murderer. Wright just mentions that Israelis are engaged in ethnic cleansing in Gaza. That is true. The Israeli Defense Forces did do ethnic cleansing in Gaza, they evicted several thousand Jooooooooooz so the Palestinians could have their ethnically pure Shangra la. How has that turned out?
So let’s question President Obama about anti Semitism. Obviously Von Brunn is a violent murderer beyond the pale for any rational person, but Wright’s comments are not acceptable are they? Ask if it is true Barack Obama told Israel it cannot bomb Iran. If Von Brunn can kill a single person, what stops Iran from killing millions? These are all legitmate questions. I would suggest we start asking them now.
Obama pissing on Israel creates a new level of danger, that they feel utterly alone in defending themselves, and act accordingly, without US input. What if that includes bombing? Invasions? Nukes?
I had no idea that Axelrod was of the Tribe. Everyone knows about Rahm.
Anyway, most of those listed, with a few exceptions like Ross, are democrats/progressives more than they are Jews, and moreover are democrats/progressives more than they are Americans. The first bit is, I suppose, a sign of assimilation, the latter a sign of the sickness on the left that makes them think it is worth helping America's enemies to win an election. Oh sorry, Syria isn't an enemy - it's just a friend we haven't hugged yet. And the Logan Act was apparently repealed on the Q T.
The fact that so many prominent members of the left side of the Dems, plus other historical lefties, are Jews does give C4 and his ilk a lot of ammo, unfortunately. I suppose that Jews have historically gravitated to extreme/revolutionary politics as a result of exclusion from the mainstream, but now it frankly looks churlish given widespread acceptance in American society. Some are also too dumb to realize that the Code Pinko zealot they are marching with today will be cheering Achmedimadinnerjacket's nuking of Israel tomorrow.
You just have to Jewish to understand it all.
As FLS posted, the list of Jews is long.
The list was posted in the comments to the Sun-Times "Them Jews" article. I spot checked but cannot swear to its accuracy. "Sutphen" didn't sound Jewish but her mom was Jewish.
The presence of so many Jews working closely with Obama demonstrates that however anti-Semitic Wright may have been over twenty years, it didn't rub off on Obama.
The presence of so many Jews working closely with Obama demonstrates that however anti-Semitic Wright may have been over twenty years, it didn't rub off on Obama.
I suspect you're right about Obama not being anti-semitic -- I think his long years listening to Wright's ravings were a cynical ploy for ethnic credibility rather than anything done out of conviction. But the fact that many Jewish people work for him doesn't actually demonstrate anything of the kind. Nixon, for example, was anti-Semitic (or at least, comes off that way, rather, if you listen to all the anti-Semitic slurs on those tapes), but worked closely during his presidency with Kissinger and other Jews (e.g. Murray Chotiner, Herbert Stein, and William Safire). Having lots of Jewish aides and assistants really doesn't mean much in that regard.
so many jews working for Obama ?
really, I don't think he cares what your religion is as long as you do his bidding ...
He's an anti-semite enabler and has been for 20 years ... of course he'll never get his hands dirty ... he's too much of a coward to do anything obvious himself ...
But the fact that many Jewish people work for him doesn't actually demonstrate anything of the kind.
I am reminded of Archie Bunker, who, after rear-ending a station wagon full of nuns, and needing a lawyer, yelled, "Get me a Jew!"
Archie Bunker was great.
I mean, on the one hand he was horrible and prejudiced and just awful... but he was honest about it and didn't actually *hate* anyone.
In my mind the show did a lot to illustrate so many attitudes that needed to change but in a way that kept the door open to those whose attitudes needed to change.
Synova, I agree. Archie was my dad. I've got some Archie in me. And some Meathead. I liked that about the show and its production - it's weird, at least to me, that we were so divided at that time, with the war, the painful movement out of Jim Crow, the beginnings of the women's movement, and the so-called generation gap, and yet there was much more of a feeling that we're all Americans, in it together, deserving of both criticism and embrace. Not to put a naive cast on it; this was also right after we experienced a series of political assassinations and anti-war, domestic terrorism. But can you imagine network TV now, creating humor and pathos out of that culture?
"Jews have an influence in this country disproportionate to their numbers because they have earned it on merit."
That is exactly C-fudd's problem with Jews. He sits embittered and lonely in his flophouse room, beating himself off to sleep and refusing to recognize what a loser he is, so he blames everything on da Joooos.
By the way Fudd, where ya been on PJM lately LOL
"But can you imagine network TV now, creating humor and pathos out of that culture?"
Hard to imagine network TV creating humor and pathos period.
But then, there is bathos.
That, we got.
reader, lol.
I don't like Rev Wright's words and think he should apologize profusely.
But they are still words, not bullets.
Name one person that Adolph Hitler shot. Name one person that Osama bin Laden shot.
My lord. I've had the opportunity and/or inclination to read this blog every day for the past couple weeks, and while I dislike personal attacks, I am compelled to say that whether I agree or disagree with Jeremy on any particular point, he is always a childish little dweeb.
The "Hymietown" comment was the political end of Jesse Jackson.
I ask you all once again how a man can sit in a church on Sundays for 20 years, listen to rants of "God damn America!" and, "Damn Jews", for there were just as many of the latter as the former, and not absorb some of it or at least share some of the underlying belief that causes a person to say such things.
Saying President Obama is not anti-Semitic because he has a number of Jews working for him reminds me so much of the cliche repeated by white racists claiming they couldn't be because they had black friends.
I don't like Rev Wright's words and think he should apologize profusely.
But they are still words, not bullets.
George Will: "No one ever died from reading Der Sterner, but the culture it served caused 6 million Jews to drop dead"
And the Muslim that murdered the Marine at the recruiting center? He claims he was getting revenge for abuses like the Koran being flushed down the toilet, as reported by Newsweek. Which never happened.
I'd like a pound of flesh from Newsweek please.
