I rode Amtrak one time, and there is no less "sexy" mode of transportation. Jammed into tiny hard seats, continuously buffeted and blasted with noise; but the worst thing was the pervasive stench of feces from the other cattle in the car. I half-expected Oscar Schindler to hose down the car at the next stop.
And it took something like 20 hours to make a trip I could have driven in 12. And it cost almost as much as a flight would have.
I'm so glad that we've put the same people who run Amtrak in charge of the automotive and financial sectors of our economy.
I rode Amtrak last week from Oceanside to L.A. and back. I found the seat spacious, with much more leg room than a flight; but the best thing was the availability of a variety of ales and wines from the cafe car.
And it took something like 2 hrs hours to make a trip I could have taken 3 hrs at that time of day.
I'm glad that Amtrak still serves California, the land of the automobile.
First a post at 11:10 AM about young sexy hobos riding the rails and the guy proposes. Then a post at 8:17 PM about a young sexy Brit riding the rails to meet her honey. Coincidence? I don't think so ...
I rode Amtrak back from St Louis to Texas the Saturday after 9-11. It was fabulous. The berth was super clean, the staff was helpful, warm, humorous, professional and just wonderful. They made a very traumatic weekend better.
I've ridden Amtrak a number of times and have never had the experience described by Pastafarian. Which line were you on? I highly recommend it, but only if you're a social animal.
The last train I rode was from Seattle to Vancouver BC, to a company event. The train never went more than 30 mph due to the state of the track, and once we crossed the Canadian border it slowed to a crawl, literally. A trip that I can drive in 3 hours took almost 6 by train. I hitched a ride home in a co-worker's SUV and got in 6 hours before the folks returning on the train.
I want to like trains, really I do. But until the service gets better/quicker, forget it.

Sex really does sell. Where are they selling tickets to the tunnel of love? Do they owe Gays equal time?
Was that ketchup he was squeezing on his banger? Ewww.
Alstom can paint them any color you want, and you can rent the track usage from British Rail.
What a cool idea - a non-government transportation product where the governments used to dominate.
Now if Obama would just follow Europe's direction TODAY, and not Europe's direction of 40 years ago, then we'd be making progress
ricpic, it was HP brown sauce. He asks the stewardess for it, then they show the logo.
Ladies want a man, guys want breakfast meat.
Mmmmm. Bacon.

I love how in the "man" version of the advert he uses the word, "opportunalize" while prepping for his presentation.
Opportunalize. . . .
That's a good Republican word. You guys should jot that one down.
Wow! That’s an All-American cutie with a smile that goes to eleven.
What’s she doing in England?
Nice cameo by Richard Branson, in the guy version. I thought that was the better of the two. Loved the keyboard scene.

I heart virgin, can't we just sell every major American carrier to virgin?
Throw the trains in for free!

I would ride Amtrak again.
Can Virgin take over Chrysler and GM and make American cars sexy and fun?
I've got to say I like the train stop: Snogs-on-Sofa.
