"Good morning. I forget whether I'm supposed to wish you a 'Happy Earth Day' or a 'Happy Lenin's Birthday.' Oh, wait. It's both."

A Corner classic.

That's perfectly fitting with many of the more rabid environmentalists. They're like watermelons - green on the outside and red on the inside.

Larry, you are very judgemental.

Most of the people I know who are concerned about the state of the Planet have wants and problems similar to mine. Wet basement when it rains too much, driveway that needs re-surfacing, weedy lawn, not enough money saved in the bank. That kind of thing.

Here's a website. Gaze at the image and be soothed.

Oh, really? I'm talking about the more rabid environmentalists, not the majority. I'm talking about the ones that oppose burning fossile fuels, oppose nuclear energy, oppose wind energy (spoils the view and kills birds), oppose solar energy (harms the desert environment), and just about everything else. What do they want, everyone back to the 1800s?

The majority of environmentalists aren't the extremists. Many of them try to do good. Those aren't the ones I'm talking about.

I think you're missing the adjective in Larry's post; rabid environmentalists who when you listen to them, don't sound a whole lot different than the commies I listened to back in college.

Hell, just listen to the more vocal global warming advocates and its all about capitalism bad, need to re-distribute wealth to poor nations and pushing more societal enginnering. I don't have a problem with responsible enviromentalism but there is no doubt it's been co-opted by those who finally figured out the communism is good doesn't fly.

Lenin is not a joke to the hundreds of millions of people killed and enslaved so that he could steal their property for the Communist State, so that Lenin could share it fairly with everyone. Sadly Lenin's guys NEVER shared the loot with anyone. That promise, which made folks agree to his monopoly on governmental power which he used to do the killing and stealing, is the Big Lie. The green party/democrats expect to use their new Government power monopoly to kill/enslave me and to steal my property "to stop Climate Change". This times Big Lie is stopping climate change. There is no human caused climate change and CO2 emissions are good, not evil. If you accept the Neo-Leninists Big Lie, then you will meekly be killed/enslaved so you can be robbed. That's not funny at all to people who want to live a happy and abundant life as free Americans using our energy resources to fight back against today's Neo-Leninist murderers.

MH,

You forget that RFK jr. just called Obama an indentured servant to the coal industry.

That buys him at least 5 or 6 private flights before you can question his credibility again.

Jayne Cobb: Holy cow. He actually called Obama 'indentured'! Terrible.

RFK Jr must have taken a few moments away from working to prevent construction of offshore wind turbines near the family property in Hyannis Port.

The trouble with protesting too much is that when someone stops to do good by you, you forget to say thank you because you are protesting and testing again and again.

Like green peace protesting apple for not being green. then apple gets greener and greener and did green peace take the time on youtube or wherever to say thanks for moving in the green direction?

green peace owes some companies a few thank yous this morning.

AllenS said...

Our hyper consumption did contribute to the financial near collapse we might just now be recovering from. It doesn’t take a genius to see that conservation should be a conservative issue.

Ann, do you have a thank you tag?

Ernesto Ariel Suárez said...

Kevin, that brought back memories...not sure if good of bad, of my childhood. By the way, I went to "senior high" in a school named after Lenin, so, for 3 years, April 22 was a special kinda day. We did get better food, and that was good.

Earth Day is everyday for me. My partner and I recycle, I use public transit (I live close to work). We have CFLs, and we buy biodegradable stuff, try to conserve as much energy as possible, etc. I walk the walk. I, however, know plenty of people who don't, even if they talk the talk.

Good morning.

I'm perfectly open to environmental arguments based on planetary hygiene. Good stewardship is, well, good.

But whenever I hear someone making "green" arguments based on AGW, I know they are either a) utterly unserious, or b) hopeful, budding tyrants whose interest in the environment only applies to how much control over others' lives it offers them.

Remember how Marxism was supposed to bring more prosperity to the masses due to the elimination of the "waste" of profits and concentration of wealth in the capitalist class? Right up until the fall of the Soviet Union the left was arguing that socialism was a viable economic system. Of course they were shamed and dispirited to say the least when the economic disaster that was communism was exposed in all it's naked tragedy.

The left needed a new rationale, and it was at that time that they began to promote the AGW myth. Think about it. Socialism is their goal at all costs. If socialism can't compete with capitalism in terms of material prosperity then they needed a way to convince the population, or at least a significant and influential portion, that prosperity was undesirable. Voila!! Prosperity via capitalism, industry, and technology would kill us all with AGW.

I wish I kept the link to an article I read in a leftwing eco mag from the early 90's someone had posted a few years back where they admitted that even if C02 wasn't responsible for global warming they needed to push the meme anyway as it was their best weapon to combat and discredit capitalism and industrialization.

Of course all the psychological traits are in perfect alignment in the leftist personality and ripe for exploitation. Massive guilt and self loathing, expressed as projection levied at the rich, capitalism, and Western Civilization in general, AGW as a crypto-religion to fill the void left by the rejection of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and most of all, the bottomless resevoir of sanctimoniousness and puritanism-fundamentalism that our friends on the left exhibit ad nauseum on a daily basis.

What we have is sort of a mass psychosis that is rooted in the leftist world view that pits the haves against the have nots in a deadly moral struggle. When this world view is adopted by affluent Westerners, who by definition are the villains in this struggle, all sorts of self destructive forces are unleashed.

Those of us who haven't drunk the Marxist koolaid watch in horror as the suicidalist left has grabbed the reigns of power and is hell bent on using them to destroy the source of our prosperity and security, which if they are successful, will lead to civilizational collapse and the greatest die-off in human history.

Which for the high priests of the Church Of Gaia is a feature, not a bug.

- Try to bike but I have some problems doing that enough.
- Turn off the fricken lights and keep the thermostat low and conserve water.
- Have reduced the runoff from my yard to the lakes.
- Etc.

Still have more work to do.

What sort of efforts are you making?

We got good news and we got bad news.

The good news is only 34% of the population is brainwashed enough to believe in AGW.

The bad news is that 100% of Democrats in the administration and congress either believe it or are cynically exploiting it in an attempt at a massive power grab.

The really bad news is we're helpless to stop them at this point.

Nothing reduces the carbon footprint like being really poor - unless you're China and can claim status as a "poor" nation to build a 1GW coal plant per week like in 2007. That said, I'm still excited by solar and see more nukes as key.

Actually, the top three carbon emitters are the United States, China and (wait for it) Indonesia.

Indonesia? Yup, in fact they emit most of it by burning rainforests in Borneo and other islands so they can plant acres and acres of palm tree plantations they use to make palm oil out of.

Earth Day is also a great day to honor its founder, Ira Einhorn.

You might recall, his girlfriend Holly Maddux broke up with him, and he murdered her and stored her in a trunk in a closet in his apartment and the corpse started stankin'.

Maddux disappeared in 1977.

Ira Einhorn skipped bail just before his trial in 1981.

He hid out in Europe for 16 years and extradition was tricky because of the potential for capital punishment.

He was tried and convicted in absentia. He was finally extradited to the US in 2001 and a jury affirmed the conviction in 2002.

Happy Ira Einhorn Day!
